Oleg Bortman's Always Ahead: 12 Striking Stories of Determination, Commitment, and Inspiration in Pursuit of Success and Freedom is a 12 story anthology detailing wisdom imparted by 12 separate business owners, most of which being from my home state Arizona, in what was meant to be an inspiring read ended up often coming across as ads for their budding or established businesses.
Many of the authors were clearly not writers and didn't express any real vulnerability; instead utilizing their word count to describe and sell their respective businesses. There were many real takeaways from the title but it's drowned out by printed URLs and self advertisement. John Bohm's stood out due to half of his chapter just being self reflective questions for the reader with the actual meat of his words taking up maybe a quarter of what had been written. Desperately needs to be edited from a writing standpoint as the core value of the book was lost in many of the stories.
