I needed a break. A break from the paparazzi, a break from my co-star ex, and a break from being the hottest new actress in Hollywood.I did not need an orc bodyguard.
But my overprotective dad refuses to let me go on a location shoot without a security detail, and he’s picked the toughest, scariest bodyguard in LA to accompany me. Too bad Roc is also my dad’s friend and my teenage crush. This won’t be awkward at all.
There’s no doubt that Roc is huge and gorgeous and monstrously sexy, but he has the overprotective tendencies of a badass and the antisocial tendencies of an orc. Not always a great combo.
When we end up stranded in a crappy roadside motel with only the world’s cheesiest honeymoon suite available, there’s only one bed and too many mirrors. So much for my plan of avoiding the orc I’d thought I’d never see again.
I love sexy aliens and independent heroines. I grew up on Star Trek: Next Generation and Star Wars (and I adore them equally). My favorite superhero is Thor (with Aquaman a close second because, well, Jason Momoa), my favorite dessert is key lime pie (okay, fine, all pie), and I still lament the loss of Firefly.
I live in North Carolina in the US and have one husband, two teenagers, and two neurotic cats. I sometimes wish I could teleport to a holographic space station like the one in my tribute brides series (or maybe vacation at the oasis with the sand planet barbarians). :-) When I'm not writing, I love to paddleboard, dive, travel, and read obsessively!
Dad Bod Orc by Tana Stone is an angsty monster romance that follows Roc, a hunky orc bodyguard, and Harlowe, a feisty human actress. It features popular tropes like cinnamon roll hero, forbidden romance, age gap, and forced proximity.
When Harlowe's dad, Jack, hires his buddy Roc to protect his baby girl on an upcoming shoot, Roc finds himself unable to resist Harlowe's charms. The harder they fight their attraction, the deeper they fall for each other.
The chemistry between Roc and Harlowe is amazing, and I found myself rooting for them to overcome all the obstacles and misunderstandings between them. It's a quick read, but it packs a punch with fun antics, and oh-so-spicy moments, culminating in a heartfelt happy ending.
👥 Dual POV 📚 Standalone within the Dad Bod Monster series featuring various authors 💋 Safe enough for me - no ow drama, no true om drama
I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.
I thoroughly enjoy when monster romance get tropes that are a little for forbidden/taboo. This was awesome!! Tana did these tropes well. I ATE it up! Such a short sweet read.
I always judge novellas by a simple metric - would I have loved this if it was a full-length book. And I think here that was a yes.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: This is one of those occasions where the title of the book is exactly what you get - and I’m not mad about it.
You get a burly bodyguard of an orc who’s secretly shy and embarrassed about how humans see him. A sunshine actress who needs help. And a really quick insta-love story.
It was the perfect palette cleanser to add to your list and a quick read.
3.5 stars Roc was Mr self denying personified and his favorite catchphrases had the words “I can’t” in them. Harlowe helped loosen him up a bit in her blunt way and finally got to act on a crush she nursed when she was 13. The time apart in which she grew up was essential to this not feeling creepy. Some of the lines in the book were repetitive, but it was cute enough.
Spice: 2/5
Triggers: plane crash, cyber bullying, mentions of stalking by “fans”, mentions of speciesism, implied cheating by ex boyfriend
I have loved the author's sci-fi alien romances since her first book, but I loved this book even more! The characters were complex, well developed and realistic. The story was funny, sad, steamy and completely entertaining. Highly recommend. Must read.
Harlowe Watts is an actress who plays the villain in a TV show series. She recently broke up with her boyfriend/co-star Zander and has received threats because of it. She had a crush on Roc when she was a teenager.
Roc owns Orc Inc Security which provides personal security details for Hollywood celebrities. He is 3/4ths orc, has green skin and tusks. He withdrew from interacting with clients and works from home as a semi-recluse.
Roc's closest friend and the man who gave him his start calls asking for a favor. Jack needs Roc to be the personal bodyguard for a new actress, his daughter, who is going on a location shoot. When he shows up to Harlowe's home he is shocked to see her all grown up. They board a private plane to get to the movie set, the plane crashes in a corn field in no where Oregon. The farmer lets them borrow his old rust bucket truck to drive to the airfield for their new flight but the truck breaks down. They hike to The Velvet Cloak Inn and end up having to share the only available room - the honeymoon suite. Roc goes next door to the diner to get food while Harlowe showers. When he comes back he hears her in distress and breaks down the shower door to save her only to see her crying. After dinner she kisses him, but he stops her because she had alcohol. Her agent shows up the next morning in a limo and they get to the location. They hook up and her ex-boyfriend shows up claiming to want her back. After she finishes filming she finds out her agent and ex only wanted the money attached to her renewal contract and she fires her agent. Back at her trailer she finds out Roc left so she races to the plane. She confronts him, they reconcile and get their HEA.
🔥 “Tell me that you’re mine.” ~~~ Harlowe is so awesome! She’s a talented actress, who’s recently broken-up with her co-star ex and is now having troubles with the media and fans. Harlowe is strong, confident and so feisty. She’s such a wonderful woman and I loved her so, so much!
Roc is the owner of Orc Inc - a successful security agency that provides protection for the rich and famous. Not only is he absolutely gorgeous, but Roc’s one big, strong, dedicated, honorable, resourceful and fiercely protective male. And he’s so deliciously dominant. I couldn’t help but adore everything about this absolutely irresistible orc!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Harlowe and Roc! No longer doing security himself, Roc’s been living in isolation, trying to avoid humans, until his best friend calls asking for a favor - for Roc to be the personal bodyguard of his step-daughter - a rising star actress who’s lately been having troubles. And imagine Harlowe’s surprise when her new bodyguard turned out to be none other than her teen crush, who she hasn’t seen for years! I adored Harlowe and Roc together! Their chemistry was fantastic right from the start. And I loved the tension, the antics and the fact that both were trying so hard to resist the undeniable attraction. But the more time they spent together, the more the attraction to each other grew. And did I mention they had to spend a night in a motel… with only one bed? Both have to consider a lot of consequences of being together, but what’s meant to be is meant to be. And when they couldn’t resist the undeniable need for one another, the passionate moments they shared were so hot! Harlowe and Roc were so perfect for each other and I couldn’t get enough of either of them.
Overall, if you’re looking for a quick, fun and naughty age-gap / bodyguard / Dad’s best friend / monster romance, Dad Bod Orc is the story for you! You’re going to absolutely love every page of it! I sure did!
A compelling read, a wonderful story with Orc and human character that I thoroughly enjoyed
Harlowe is a celebrity that has gone through a traumatic experience and I was surprised to discover that the break up from her co-star Zander has made her the hated star, she had started to receive threatening mail and her father wanted her protected.
Jack had contacted Roc who now ran his own security/bodyguard company and now had been asked by his best friend, his only human friend and family that he had spent weekends with and had often gone to dinner with. Then for no reason what-so-ever had stopped calling them, stopped visiting them and in all honesty, he had no real idea why?
Now he finds himself in a small jet with his client Harlowe who os now a very grown-up star and she has questions regarding his sudden absence from both hers and her father’s life, Roc realises that they had thought that he no longer wanted to associate with them and they had all missed him and felt hurt.
When the plane is suddenly experiencing mechanical failure, he does all he can to ensure that she received no injuries by protecting her with his own body. They spend an evening in a small hotel in the only room available which is the honey moon suite.
I will not spoil the rest of the story but the manager that has been supposedly supporting Harlowe has others’ ideas and this all comes to a head, the confidence she has received whilst under Roc’s care has made her more confident and she is determined to ger her man and keep him!!!’
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all their wonderful writing.
Harlowe is a poplar actress that just went through a breakup with her famous and popular co-star and she is being made out to be the villain in the relationship. She is getting ready to head out to do some location shoots and her stepfather reaches out to one of his friends that is in the security business to hire him to be Harlowe’s bodyguard since she has been getting some unsavory comments and even threats online since the breakup. While she fights having a bodyguard, she does end up agreeing to make her stepfather happy but also to protect herself. She is just hoping it’s someone other than his Orc Friend that she was crushing on as a teenager.
Roc is the owner of Orc Inc Security however doesn’t do personal protection anymore and has teams to do that but because this is the man who gave him a boost into the industry and friend as well, he agrees to the gig. However, when he shows up and Harlowe steps out, he realizes that he is definitely out of his league with this woman in which he has to keep reminding himself is a client only.
There is chemistry between the two and snarky banter from Harlowe that Roc didn’t expect from a famous actress because it is down to earth banter and not the typical snooty reactions he is used to with celebrities. And she doesn’t treat him like he is below her because he is an Orc and that is not something he is used to at all. She actually sees him for him.
There is some drama with getting to the location shoot, her ex-boyfriend makes a reappearance and her agent is pressuring her to sign onto a 3 year deal. This book is really good as you have the slow burn into some spicy scenes along with some entertaining parts.
This was a fun, flirty, and spicy read with a plethora of tropes - forbidden romance, age gap, bodyguard-protectee, monster–human, and one bed. Roc is orc and owns a successful agency that provides bodyguards to the rich and famous. He has isolated for several years to avoid human prejudice. Jack, an agent and a friend who he has not seen in years, asks Roc to be the personal bodyguard for his step-daughter, an actress. Harlowe is an up-and-coming actress who plays a villain on tv and is receiving threats. A decade ago she also had a teenage crush on Roc. There is instant chemistry and attraction between Roc and Harlowe as they get reacquainted but they are both determined to ignore it. Of course, that’s before an emergency plane landing changes their travel plans. The more time they spend together the harder it is to ignore the pull between them but can it lead to an HEA? The story was well written and included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline as told through sweet moments, spice, baggage unpacking, drama, missteps, and laughs. 4.5 stars
This was a quick read & a perfect palette cleanser after my prior read. Roc is our MMC, ¾ orc ¼ human & an absolute delight to drool over. Harlowe our FMC is quirky, charming, & very relatable. This book is part of the Dad Bod Monster series by various authors & absolutely worth the read. This is my second book by Tana Stone & safe to say I'm definitely a fan. The story between Roc & Harlowe is sweet, steamy, & gut wrenching at times & I loved it. Roc is hired by his best friend & Harlowe's father to be her bodyguard for a movie shoot since she's received some bad press & threats after a bad break-up with one of her co-stars. Harlowe is not your typical Hollywood starlet but that doesn't mean she's thrilled at the idea of having a bodyguard following her around. Especially when said bodyguard turns out to be none other than her father's best friend who she had a crush on when she was a teenager, & realizes she still does once she see him again after a decade has passed. All around good read, will definitely be reading again. 5⭐'s 2🌶️'s
Dad Bod Orc is a fast paced bodyguard / monster romance that follows Harlowe, a famous actress, whose dad calls in a favor from his friend Roc, to guard his daughter after she receives threatening letters.
Harlowe had first met Roc as a teenager, when he used to come to her house for dinner, but hasn't seen him in years so their first meeting was a bit of an eye opener for them both after all these years. As these two get reacquainted, there's instant chemistry that they both try to fight until it becomes impossible to resist each other.
I enjoyed the story. It was entertaining and gave us cinnamon roll hero, forbidden romance, age gap, and forced proximity. There were some minor misunderstandings and some obstacles but through it all I was rooting for these two.
This book is part of a series (all written by different authors) about dad bod monsters and I'll definitely go check out the others. It was an entertaining, sweet read and great as a palate cleanser. I would definitely recommend it.
Her dad gets her a bodyguard, his best friend, and her childhood crush, of course she’s not happy with having a bodyguard, especially not one of her teenage fantasies…and then they go on the trip from hell, these two really get put through it trying to get her to the job she has starting. Anything that could go wrong did go wrong, lots of cluster shenanigans for sure. But my personal favorite is the Velvet Cloak Inn complete with red satin and a heart shaped mirror over the bed…so funny.
Safe read, with a young starlet, and the object of her teenage fantasies. Oh…our sexy intense possessive dirty talking orc has a breaking point…whew dayum. One line that I loved, because Orc’s age much slower than humans, I loved this line from her “It’s like you waited for me to catch up.”…awe. Anyway, she does show her age a bit, but he handles her, and she definitely needed to be handled. Cute hea and an epilogue that has me wanting the next book.
I really enjoyed this book. It had all the right stuff and checked all my boxes for a sci fi romance. This is a must read story with well developed complex characters and a story that pulls you in that’s entertaining sad funny flirty romantic and steamy. Roc is the owner of a bodyguard company and is contacted by his old friend who needs his help. His stepdaughter Harlowe has been receiving threats and asks Roc to be her bodyguard. It’s a fast paced steamy flirty fun story where the chemistry of the characters amazing and with their fun antics and spicy moments I was rooting for them their misunderstandings and obstacles to get their happy ever after. I highly recommend this book.
I received an advanced review copy for my honest review and this is my honest review.
Roc and Harlowe were cute! I like the push-pull relationship they have going on. This novella was a nice mix of some of my favorite tropes, a mmc who is a bit of a loner and a grump but softy at heart, forbidden romance, forced proximity, age gap and many more. The characters really went through it from an emergency landing, their truck breaking down and being stuck in a motel. It was fun to see how both Roc and Harlowe navigated their growing feelings for each other in the mids of all these crazy things happening. The ending was a bit rushed with sudden love bombs, but all in all very enjoyable read. And can I just say that the cover looks absolutely gorgeous? 🔥 More orc bodyguards please!

Harlowe's career was one of fame and recognition, and it wasn't always what she expected. After a rather public breakup with her co-star and boyfriend, the publicity was definitely negative. Concerned for her safety, her father sought a favor from an old friend who had a bodyguard business. Suffice it to say that said bodyguard had been, without his knowledge, the star of Harlowe's romantic fantasies since she had been 13 years old.
What will happen now, 10 years later, when Harlow pushes the buttons of this highly principled orc?
Sweet, spicy romantic drama with a slow burn. Highly recommend. I love all of Tana Stone's romances. Hot without burning.
This is a fun, easy read. Roc is Harlowe's step-dad's friend though they haven't seen each other in a lot of years. Harlowe is a rising star actress who plays a villian on a TV show. She starts receiving threats so when she needs to go on location her step-dad hires Roc as her bodyguard not knowing he was her teenage crush. The real fun ensues when they are forced to share a room with only one bed in an out of the way motel. I loved the characters and storyline. This is Tana Stone's first Orc story and I really hope it won't be her last. Truth is, I love her writing and I have never been disappointed. I think you will enjoy this book too.
Dad Bod: Orc is part of the Dad Bod: Monster Edition series by several best selling sci-fi authors. This is a fast paced monster romance story featuring Harlowe, a human actress who's sudden rise to fame requires her to get a bodyguard. She meets Roc, the tough, grumpy and overprotective Orc. I really enjoyed reading this because it pulls you right into the story; the action, the angst of these two trying to fight their forbidden chemistry especially when they get stranded. I love the whole forced proximity one bed with a sexy cinnamon roll and a sassy FMC. I highly recommend this entertaining story.
Dad Bod Orc it’s a cute, flirty and short read. I finished it the book in one afternoon and it was a nice story.
It is an off limits monster romance, where a grumpy orc bodyguard has to accompany his best friends younger daughter, who is an actress and needs protection from fans. Roc is grumpy, gorgeous and sexy orc whereas, Harlowe is a beautiful human actress who has always had a crush on him.
They end up travelling together to a photo shoot and their private plane ends up landing in a remote area and they have to find a way back home. This is where the relationship between Roc and Harlow starts and they find themselves in close proximity.
Thank you Tana Stone and Literally Yours PR for providing me with an ARC.
Like the heroine, actress Harlowe Watts who needed a break in Dad Bod Orc, after reading several dark romances recently I needed something light and uncomplicated to read and this book with its monster romance trope hit the brief. The hero Roc is three quarter Orc and one quarter human and doesn’t really fit into either camp. His green skin, tusks and man bun is pure orc but the human in his DNA makes him that bit smaller than his full-blooded counterparts. He lives his life as a semi-recluse, happy to remain behind the scenes and send his staff into the field until an old friend calls in a favour and asks him to protect his daughter who has been receiving threats. Harlowe had first met Roc as a teenager, and he’d been her first crush. Now as an adult the attraction was still there only stronger. When the aircraft they’re on has to make an emergency landing, they’re forced into a road trip ending up in the honeymoon suite at the Velvet Cloak motel and yes, its as cheesy as it sounds but it gives them the opportunity to get to know one another but they’ll have to work their way through several misunderstandings before they find their happily ever after.
If you’re looking for a quick read with low level spice, an age gap, bodyguard/protectee trope, an engaging story and likeable, well-rounded characters then I recommend you give this book a go.
Dad Bod Orc is a very sweet and entertaining story that follows the exploits of Roc, head of Orc Inc. Security just hired to guard an old friend’s stepdaughter, up and coming starlet Harlowe while she is filming on a production. Roc had been close to Harlowe and her family until he had stopped coming around because of his personal vulnerabilities where humans were concerned. Harlowe doesn’t want a bodyguard but having Roc her teenage crush in her life again soon turns into an adventure of passion and revelations. Loved this well written engaging read!
I received a free ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Dad Bod Orc by Tana Stone is an angsty short read that will leave you wanting more. The story starts off with Roc, our loner MMC being recruited by an old friend to provide security for Harlowe, our angst filled actress FMC. From the start the chemistry is there. The story switches between both Roc and Harlowe's point of view and we learn things about their past, both with each other and not. Although this is a short story it is full of character development and contains a nice bit of spice. While the ending leaves some things open for interpretation, and I wouldn't say it fully hits on the "Dad Bod" topic, it's a great read and I would recommend it!
This novella is part of a multi author series. They all look awesome, but I’m a Tana Stone stan, so clearly I had to start here. And she didn’t disappoint. Well. I was disappointed I flew through it so quick and there wasn’t more to it, but that was me just being greedy? Not because it felt like it was missing anything. It was a slow burn of story, with the story leading up to one spicy scene. For being a novella, it had a lot happening in the storyline. Overall, this was a really good read!
❤️ Tropes ❤️ 💋 Monster Romance 💋 Celebrity/Bodyguard 💋 Best Friend’s daughter 💋 Age Gap
Roc hasn’t been out in the field in a while, but when his oldest friend calls him and requests him to guard his actress daughter, he can’t say no. But she isn’t the awkward teen with braces that would try to hang around all the time anymore. But he doesn’t get involved with clients, and he wouldn’t do that to Jack. Now he just needs to convince his body of that.
Thank you to Literally Yours PR for the copy, all thoughts are my own.
This was a super sweet, slow burn monster romance with limited on page spice. Roc and Harlowe are both instantly attracted to each other, but take a bit to admit it out loud. They were adorable together and I was rooting for their HEA from the start
If you are looking for a super dramatic action packed bodyguard story, this is not for you. This is a very sweet low drama and low action story. The story focuses its plot on their personal growth and their relationship. You get to see them come together naturally and really root for them before anything physical happens. It gave me sweet Hallmark rom-com vibes.
Short sweet read with two great main characters and wonderful interaction. Between them. Roc an IRC bodyguard is hired by his human best friend to protect his daughter he knew as a young girl. Harlowe has always had a secret crush on Roc but hasn't seen him in 10 yrs. And she doesn't want a bodyguard. Roc is shy and uncertain of himself around humans and now is dismayed to find he's attracted to harlowe while feeling much too old for her. Great character development and conversation in the plot between characters. Great fast read with great ending. I received an arc copy and this is my honest voluntary review.
Quotes: “But you make me feel things I’ve pushed deep inside for a long time. I’d convinced myself that being alone and protecting my heart was playing it safe, but when I’m with you I can’t play it safe. You scare me, Harlowe, because you make it impossible for me to protect my heart. You make it impossible for me not to feel.”
A fun easy read. Every girl knows what it's like to have a crush, but when that forbidden fruit stares you in the face a decade later, all bets are off. Roc is a strong male who, because of his genetics, feels insecure of his features. When he comes out of semi retirement to protect a client, his pent-up energy comes to a boiling point. These two wonderful characters collide in the most delicious way.
This was a quick, easy read, but I found a lull in parts.
I enjoy Tana’s books, she is a great writer. The mark of any good storyteller is to create great characters that people can connect with or relate to. Well, I could not stand Harlowe. And it wasn’t just because she was 23. She was childish, spoilt, and a snob. Quite frankly, not good enough for the MMC, Roc. The age gap thing with Roc would have been more easy for me to understand if she had been more mature. That said, I loved Roc. He was easy to relate to and I enjoyed hearing his side of the story. Still worth four stars!!!
