The fae spend their entire lives searching for their true mate. But me? I know who my mine is. And I don't want him. My name is Astrid. I'm a fae, a seer and a healer. Not much scares me. But him? That's the darkness I'm never going to let catch me.
“Chantal takes Romantasy, and hand delivers you a masterpiece set in an evocative world of fated mates and enemies to lovers. I was entrapped from the very first page, and didn’t want to leave after closing the last. Enthralling, addicting, and so damn hot.” - Amo Jones (USA Today & Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author)
"Fast-paced and all-consuming, Chantal Fernando doesn't just try her hand at Romantasy... she reigns supreme! Somebody just hand her a crown, already." - Belle Aurora
Forewarned is book one in the new gripping, sexy, romantic fantasy series by Chantal Fernando.
I devoured this book in just one day! Packed with all the beloved tropes of romantasy, including fated mates, alpha males, captor/captive dynamics, and secret identities, it was an incredibly enjoyable read. I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment, although I must warn you that this book ends with a thrilling cliffhanger.
***Thank you to NetGalley, Chantal Fernando, and Dreamscape Media for graciously sending me the audiobook to review. As always, all thoughts are my own.***
Can I sell my firstborn for the next book please, Ms Fernando?
This book reminded me why I love reading in the first place. It gives me that butterflies in the stomach feeling. The high that lightens my head. That excitement of what else, what other interesting stories out there, that are just waiting to be found by me.
So yes. I enjoyed the fuck outta this book. And the fact that I have to wait until June to get my hand on the next one is just... TRAGIC. With that said, I will try my best to review this book without distracting myself.
What I love about this book are probably the tropes. Yeah yeah. Shoot me. Boohoo. Fated mates and possessive heroes are my jam. It's hard to mess those ups and why this book easily won me over. Add that to the palace intrigue, impending war with vampiric kingdom and burning sexual tension .Yeesh, I'm already drooling.
But I have to point out, if you dislike the chosen one trope, bitch, you might find it a tad too much. Because our girl is a little too special, if you know what I mean. However, I made my peace with that trope, since, ding ding ding, I couldn't care less about it. If you know how to make it not obnoxious with it, I don't care if she's the all powerful being that had been prophesied since the dawn of men. I would devour that storyline too!
Anyhow. Did I distract myself?
Absolutely recommend this. However, probably better if you wait for the next one to come out though.
This book had a lot of potential to be more interesting and I only finished it completely because it did have interesting parts which is why it’s getting two stars instead of one. However, modern language in fantasy is such an off putting thing for me as a reader and takes me out of the story completely. Because I read this in audio format, I wasn’t able to take notes for each part and am forgetting a lot, but the parts I do remember were terms like “shadow daddy” and “praise kink”. The last one that really got me was “flight risk”. I don’t think I’ve ever read something so ridiculous in a fantasy book as flight risk. The writing felt incredibly juvenile and choppy, we were moving from one thing to the next every minute with no reaction time or understanding of the events. Including the excessive and uncomfortable sex scenes. It was the epitome of telling instead of showing.
This audiobook was narrated by Anne Robert. I did think it sounded a bit juvenile at times with how the main character was speaking. Especially during explicit scenes.
Thank you so much to Netgalley, Chantal Fernando, and Dreamscape Media for providing this free ARC. This is my honest review. This publishes on September 3rd.
I really wanted to love this. But I didn’t. It was an interesting read but the world building could’ve used some work. I felt the chemistry and heat in the romance but no true emotional bonding. If they weren’t fated, would they even like each other? I immediately called her familial connection as soon as they were introduced so there wasn’t a whole lot of build up. Astrid didn’t have a lot of flaws either. She was snarky and beautiful. Everyone loved her or disliked her on principle. The characters felt flat and one dimensional. However, the writing wasn’t bad, I loved the spice, and there is definite potential for improvement. Overall, it was an okay read and I’d recommend anyone give it a shot.
Vampires and Fae Highborn and Incubus, oh my! We're not in Kansas anymore folks.
Book 1 of FATED LOVE, this is a GREAT first installment to a new Romantasy Series. I received this audiobook ARC thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media, and it immediately sucks you in, absolutely love this fantasy world building. Astrid has been running from place to place with her handsome best friend, August for years. They find safety and comfort in each other in a world were Fae are destined to bond with a single mate that is pre-destined. Astrid knows who her mate will be, and she will do anything to avoid the bond. He happens to be one of the Fae princes and is well known for his shadow powers and sketchy behaviors. Inevitably she encounters Rave, the Shadow Prince, but not everything is as it seems. Astrid's feelings, powers and mated bonds are not as expected, and as she is pulled into the world of the Royal Court, many secrets are revealed.
I knew nothing about this story going in, and I recommend doing the same. It ends in a pretty big cliffhanger, but good news, the second installment is available on KU and paperback, while the audiobook is still awaiting release. I'm jumping right into the second one....bye!
I binged this story in one late night session and I am OBSESSED with these characters. Astrid is such an awesome heroine and I loved watching her grow into her powers. Rave is darkness personified and the secrets he’s keeping are going to cause all kinds of problems. Their chemistry is delicious and there are side characters I’m soooo intrigued by so hopefully we get their stories too.
That cliffhanger was brutal and I cursed Chantal for leaving me hanging, cannot wait for book 2.
Finished for the second time this time on audio and loved it just as much!
ALL THE STARS for this one! Excellent fantasy book. I should have known, her first fantasy book would be astounding. This author has never disappointed me. These characters are everything. Strong fmc and a sexy, dominant shadow daddy. So many twists and turns and a shocking cliffhanger ending. If you like fantasy, don't miss this one! Dang, I can't wait for the second book!
This had all the makings of a great romantasy … fated mates, enemies to lovers, fae drama and a heroine who knows what she doesn’t want. I really wanted to love it and I did enjoy the overall story idea but it felt a bit too surface level for me. I wanted more depth, more backstory, more time to really feel the characters and their connection.
It wasn’t bad by any means, it just left me wishing it had gone a bit deeper. Still it was a quick, enjoyable read if you’re after something light with that classic fae-mate tension. The cliffhanger was a surprise though! I may attempt the second book just to see where that one goes …
“Prince Rave’s reputation precedes him. There are four brothers in his line—Rave, Cove, Nico, and Elios, in that order. Each one commands different gifts, but they are a force to be reckoned with. And Prince Rave? They call him the Shadow Prince.”
Oh my god. I ate this series up back to back! If you like Romantasy with low politics, fated mates with OTT possessive and obsessive men, tons of magic and individual qualities, found family, spice, little angst and strong females.. this is it. This is the story. I became obsessed reading this.
Astrid knows who her mate is and has been on the run avoiding him. She can see the future and what she sees with him, she doesn’t like. But fates have a way of forcing mates together and so they do…
“So you’re a shadow daddy, but what else can you do?” I ask Rave, and he chokes on his wine. “What did you call me?” he asks, clearing his throat.”….
Oh yes. Rave is a shadow daddy and uses them in more ways than one.
I love all the different species from demons, witches, to vampires. It’s fast paced and an absolute page turner.
Book one leaves off on a cliffie but book two is already out!
That was a little upsetting. The story was interesting and the reviews made me excited to dig into this world and characters. But everything was gift wrapped and too sugary sweet, everything obvious, not too much nuance - especially for scenes that would truly benefit in lowkey and subtlety. So many tropes that they were getting lost in each other and turned me off from wanting to see it through to the end. The main character, Astrid, had everything going for her: lucky at every turn, a perfect martyr and saint, desirable by all and a quicker-witted fighter, and powers beyond your imagination. While I usually like reading of characters that fit into this box (mostly begrudgingly or through a changed mindset), Astrid was too much of the perfectly wrapped hero, too sugary sweet that its impossible to ignore all the additives!!! Less is more, especially in growing the storyline and building characters up to have their expected arc. I just couldn’t make it through to see how it all came together. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to pick it up again but for now: paused at Chapter 21, page 120 of 232 (51% completed)
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (given by the author)...
4.75 stars
Okay sooooooo like I need the next book ASAP!
This book was so good from beginning to end and I love, love, love Astrid. She has so many unknown secrets about her that she even she doesn’t know, but she’s not afraid to find out her truth; however, revealing herself to her mate, Rave, aka Shadow Daddy is another story.
I loved watching Astrid become more confident as well as strong and if I’m being honest watching Rave fall for his mate was very endearing. Rave likes to joke that Astrid is his karma and maybe she is because a saint he was not before her, but the way protects and, dare I say loves her, is swoon worthy. Although, his jealous and possessive was a bit over the top especially when it came to August let alone his brothers (Cove, Nico and Elios) and best friend, Soren.
Unfortunately, that ending has me second guessing all his intentions. I must know what really happened!
I could not stop listening to this audiobook! It was so good! This was probably my one of my favorite books of the year, I cannot wait to read the next one! The narrator was amazing and had such a great voice for this story! 10/10 recommend and can’t wait to continue this series!
Forewarned by Chantel Fernando 4.5/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

It has been a minute since I binged a spicy Romantasy book and this one was the perfect listen. A hidden seer, a prince of shadows, and a pending war with vampires — this book had everything! If you love spicy fantasy reads, give this series a try. The first two are out now and the third book is due out in November!
Read this book if you like: -dislike to lovers -fated mates -territorial MMC -found family
Forewarned is OUT NOW and newly released in audio format! If it's not already on your tbr, it should be! . . . Special thanks to Dreamscape Media for sharing a free copy with me in exchange for my honest opinions.
Loved this book about a new paranormal world created by Chantal Fernando. In this world, Astrid is a fae who is also a healer, and she knows who her mate is, and wants nothing to do with him. Her best friend is August, another Fae, and he has been protecting her since they were children. Rave, the Prince of Shadows is determined to make Astrid his. In this world there are many species, witch’s, vampires, shifters, incubus etc. the Fae are at war with the Vampires. Astrid finally “sees” Rave as her mate and they fall in love. There are many twists and turns between Rave and Astrid’s pasts. This story has everything, love, betrayal, forgiveness, and loyalty. The ending will surprise you. Looking forward to the next book!
I have been glued to this book all day. The scream that came out of me at the end… that ending. I’ve been left hanging with like a million questions running through my head that need answers, I could cry right now, so desperate for the next book. This book was everything! A sexy fae shadow daddy, a strong FMC, fated mates, magic, love, lust, spice, danger, twists and turns you won’t see coming, enemies to lovers and touch her and die tropes. Storyline and character development I found was spot on. I just love everything about this story! This one has taken over as my fave read for 2024.
A brilliant romantasy story, that I highly recommend!
This had the potential to be a great book, but it fell really flat for me. The majority of the writing is telling, rather than showing. I never connected with any of the characters or felt any emotion about what happened in the story. I also disliked the use of modern slang in the book, and in particular, having the FMC call the MMC a shadow daddy to his face really took me out of the story.
The heroine is immature, and I could never get a handle on her personality. She seems to be perfect, but there’s still somehow nothing likable about her. The hero is a typical possessive male with dark hair but very few other distinguishing characteristics. I never felt a connection between them besides the fated bond, and there was no character growth for anyone in the story.
Lastly, the OM and OW drama throughout the book was obnoxious, and I hated the ending. I can’t see myself reading any more books in this series.
Uh wow this was bad. So much OW drama, so much OM drama. Every man wanted h, H was a huge manwhore who has a secret child with ow and well first book ends with a cliffy h meeting the secret son.
I basically absolutely hate all of those tropes. I am okay with a bit of ow/om drama as there are some salty exes around- totally okay. But this was ridiculous! I had to read it all in descriptive way and total ick for me.
Whole book was like an afterthought. Sex scenes were like McDonalds drive by.
🔸virgin 25y old h 🔸 H is a manwhore with a capital M 🔸 H has a secret son from ex 🔸 om/ ow drama 🔸 no cheating 🔸 ends with a cliffhanger 🔸 second book is filled with OM drama 🔸 sex scenes are pretty bland 🔸 everyone are sexual freaks

I had such a fun time listening to this book! Forewarned is a fast-paced, entertaining, and spicy romantasy. I really liked the characters. I felt an instant attachment to our FMC. I really enjoyed the cast of side characters as well. The brothers were especially fun to watch interact, and I can't wait to see where they go through the series. The narrator was very expressive and easy to listen to. She brought all the characters to life and was well suited to the part of the FMC. She was also easy to follow even when sped up. This book ended on a crazy cliffhanger and I cannot wait to listen to more in this series!
Ty to NetGalley and publishers for the ARC Audiobook!
Read if you like: Touch her x die Overprotective alphaholes Fated mates!!!!! SHADOW DADDY!!! 🖤 Secrets & betrayals 3.5 Spice: 4/5
How tf does Astrid juggle FOUR brothers? Oh, you lucky girl, you.
The only brother she didn't get much interaction with is Nico.
I really really really wanted to love this. It has EVERYTHING. Fae princes, a shadow daddy, vampires, succubi even!
Some characters don't know how to talk dirty to each other and still make it sexy, but Astrid & Rave did and they have sizzling energy and such witty banter. 🥵 THE TENSION BETWEEN THEM. It was perfect. 🤌🏻
These two are like bread and butter, peanut butter and jelly! Their relationship went from zero to 💯 REAL QUICK!
The plot was basically just a looooot of sex.
Rave was SUUUUUUPER overprotective, controlling and a possessive (alphahole), no wonder Astrid ran at first! He didn't even really let any of his brothers have a real shot with her (Helios, you little sweetheart, you'll make such cute lil ginger babies), and even got jelly around his own best friend, Soren.
Astrid and Rave were toxic as shitttt but I was addicted.
Honestly, they're not really enemies when they met. Astrid just didn't want to be mated to him because she hoped it was August and knew it wasn't. Also, thinking that Rave was dangerous... Rave didn't respect Astrid's boundaries. Like, at all unless she really put her foot down. BUT bonus points for Rave since he wasn't an asshat while she drank the fae wine. But he didn't even want her discovering who her other parent is.
I really loved the narrator, my only feedback is that the chapters were unfortunately suuuuuper short for an audiobook (like 10 minutes each), and sometimes the narrator kind of sounded like she was bored or lethargic. I ended up putting it on 1x speed for the lilting voice. Otherwise, her voice was really pleasant.
I would've loved to see more world building (since Rave wouldn't let her out of the castle without him) and more of bestie August.
If you haven't read this, go get a copy! RIGHT NOW. Just off adding this to my Amazon list to buy later. I need the paperback now! And the next book! ✍🏻 THAT DÃMN CLIFFHANGER. Gonna need that second book ASAP!
ARC review: This book was a thrilling and seductive dive into a world of fated mates, shadowy magic, and some seriously spicy scenes. The concept of fated mates has always intrigued me and is a classic I adore! Fernando does an excellent job bringing that tension and connection to life, especially with the twist of all the brothers being mates with the protagonist—talk about a shocker! The shadow daddy adds a deliciously dark and mysterious edge to the story, perfectly complementing the world’s unique magic system. The spice level is off the charts, so those who love their romances steamy will not be disappointed. Overall, this book is a fantastic mix of magic, passion, and unexpected twists that will keep you hooked from start to finish.
Thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for this fantastic spicy audiobook!

DNF@25% This book is not going to be for me and after reading reviews it's just a big mess I'm not interested in. It started fine until the h triggered the mating bond of all the princes. Now they all want to spend time with her so she can choose one. After checking reviews to make sure this wasn't a RH, I find out it isn't and there is a big cliffhanger and talks of a big betrayal. So, the betrayal is that her fated mate has a son. Sorry while I don't care who my couples are with before they find their mate the idea that he has a son with someone else is not for me. I want children between mates only. Reviews also mention that after she's fully mated to the Shadow Prince, she has lustful moments with someone else.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this audiobook.
Let me start by saying I LOVE spicy books. This one however, felt like it lost the plot pretty heavily once the characters actually got together in favor of smut. Despite this, most of the character development and dialogue felt like it would have fit in better in a true YA novel. Modern phrases usually don’t pull me from a world significantly, but words like “roomies” and the narrators emphasis on them pulled me from the world a bit.
Overall, I am curious to see where this story goes and I was excited to see that book 2 is available on KU already.
