An objective 4-4.5 stars, but I loved this, so I'm giving it 5 stars. This series is so addictive. The world building is really interesting and the plot is strong, but the stand out feature is definitely the relationships. Ari and Eva's chemistry is unmatched. Admittedly, like with many other series, I preferred the first book to this one, as the plot was a bit more simple and we got to see the main characters falling in love, but this book was still really good. The author did a really good job at maintaining the tension and chemistry between Ari and Eva, even after they had gotten together at the end of the last book. I loved seeing them pining for and feeling protective of each other in their internal monologues. A few of the obstacles that prevented them from happily being together felt forced, but the character's decisions made sense in relation to the plot, and again, their chemistry is great, so I didn't really mind that the continued conflicts occasionally felt forced. Overall, this was a really fun and quick read, and I look forward to the next book in the series coming out!

IT JUST GOT TOO... WEIRD
Normally, I am all for originality and trying new, unexpected things in books. But the strange mix of science fiction and fantasy that is served in this book just got too weird for me.

Genre confusion: The first book started out as a dystopian science fiction novel. And then at the end there was a major fantasy twist. I thought this book would reel it in a bit, but the opposite happened. Suddenly, we have mages and magic and shapeshifters all over the place. It did not work for me at all.
No progress: The plot moved along so slowly. It just kept going over the same thing over and over again for the first 2/3rds of the book. Eva and Ari were miserables, wanting to be together but not being able to be together. It was so angsty. And normally, I don't have a problem with angst. It just needs to be cut from time to time with something else, something to break the angst and give a respite. This just got depressing.
Characters: I had several issues with the characters. Firstly, of course, there was all of the angst. Secondly, I felt like the character were a lot more bland this time around as compared to the first book. Thirdly, I also felt like some of the characters were behaving inconsistently, suddenly changing their patterns of behaviour without any apparent reason.

This is another series that more people need to know about. I've grown invested in Ari and Eva's story and their world. That ending was incredible! I absolutely loved it and can't wait for the next book.

I couldn't put this book down, it completely captivated me. The story took me on a rollercoaster of anxiety and hope for our brave heroes, Eva and Ari. It's packed with action and unexpected twists, keeping you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
The blend of dystopian and fantasy genres is masterfully done. The world-building and character development, both for the main and secondary characters, draw you in and immerse you in the story. Now, I can't wait to find out what happens next!

This installment continues Eva and Ari's story as it delves deeper into their journey amidst a world teetering on the brink of war. As rogue soldiers fleeing the oppressive grasp of their religious society, Eva and Ari must confront their unknown pasts and the uncertainties of their future.
This expands upon the world-building introduced in the first installment. The stakes are higher than ever as Eva grapples with her newfound powers and has to come to term with what the rebellion envisions for her - while they decline to consider her own choice in the matter.
The central focus on Eva and Ari's relationship remains a driving force but I did not find the constantly infused conflict between them nearly as interesting. The bond between them is their strength and they are not often on the same page here. I found the abundance of dramatic obstacles designed to keep the couple apart somewhat excessive, detracting from the overall pacing of the story.
Despite these minor drawbacks, "Siege of the Seven Sins" delivers a compelling story about love, choice, sacrifice, and redemption against the backdrop of a dystopian world ravaged by war and oppression.

First sentence: The world is on fire, or I am.
Premise/plot: Siege of the Seven Sins is the sequel to Sword of the Seven Sins. In the first book, Eva and Ari fell madly, deeply in love with each other. Love of any form--even familial--is FORBIDDEN in the Commonwealth. But romantic love is especially frowned upon. Good thing they had a way out, right? Well, their exit from their cruel society didn't exactly go as planned--far from it. In fact, it was one disaster after another. But now that they're finally, finally, finally free from the Commonwealth and the past, they can be together forever, right?
Well, not exactly. And not all obstacles are coming from without. In fact even without the NEW powers-that-be (the ones in rebellion against the Commonwealth) and the Commonwealth (which we explored in the first book), these two are just stubborn and stupid enough to mess up their relationship without another soul interfering.
Eva is exploring her new body--or BODIES--as the case may be. And being around Ari may just be the death of them both...
My thoughts: The first half of the book was PAINFUL. I'll clarify what I mean by painful. Every single Eva chapter was like, I WANT TO BE WITH ARI BUT I CAN'T. And every single Ari chapter was like, I WANT TO BE WITH EVA BUT I CAN'T. And literally all that was going on was whining by both characters about how life was so super unfair and tragic because they couldn't be together together. In the background, there were hints of life going on for everyone else in this world.
The second half of the book improved a good deal. Ari and Eva still really wanted to be together together but couldn't. But. Also action and adventure started taking center stage. By the last few chapters, plenty was happening.
Does stuff happening at the very end of the book make up for all that came before???? Not really.
This might be a case for two books being stretched to make a trilogy. I'm assuming it will be a trilogy and that it won't be longer. Because if the same drama is going to have to go on for each book--Ari and Eva wanting to be together but being held back for reasons--then it's going to get old really fast.
For readers who want 98% romance and 2% dystopian world building, these two books might make a good fit. (I would say the first book it was more fifty-fifty. There was a lot of world building and character development....especially in comparison with the second.) I personally enjoyed book one a great deal more than this second book in the series.

I enjoyed the second half of this book immensely. I did take a break after the first chapter and read a different book because I tend to not like the "I'm going to push the person I love away because of ...." away plot line. But the book got very intense and easy to fall back in to. I'm excited to follow Ari and Eva's story.

The Siege of the Seven Sins is the second full-length book in The Seven Sins series. Like the first book, this one is also told from two points of view: Eva's and Ari's.
Once again, the writing is superb. The storyline remains captivating, filled with twists and turns. While perhaps not as action-packed as the first book, this one still delivers excitement from start to finish.
The characters are once again well-developed and intriguing. There is some miscommunication between the main characters, which isn't my favorite trope, but it didn't detract significantly from my enjoyment of the book.
I particularly enjoyed witnessing Eva's growth in understanding her abilities and what she is capable of doing. The banter and chemistry between the main characters were well written.
I won't delve into the plot details to avoid spoilers for those who haven't read both the first book in the series and this one.
I'm eagerly looking forward to reading the next book.

What happened here? I still don’t understand. The first book in this series was good, not the best book I’ve ever read but still fun. This one though… it got weird, very weird. And it got boring.
At first, I thought the fantasy twist would turn this book into something totally different from its predecessor and it did, but not in a good way. The whole execution didn’t work for me, it was confusing and so totally different from the world we got to know. The inconsistency didn’t stop there, some characters behaved totally strange and different which didn’t make sense at all.
And don’t get me started on the angst. They want to be together, they can’t, but they want, but they can’t. This went on and on and on and took the story nowhere. I had to read about those two boring people pining for each other and being miserable when I could have read more about the plot.

SIEGE OF THE SEVEN SINS was a fantastic follow-up to Sword of the Seven Sins. When we left our characters in book 1, things were just getting super tense and the story ended at a very pivotal moment. The story continues in this second book, and we see Eva and Ari finally make a run towards freedom. Though nothing in this world is safe and freedom is never promised. Things are also heating up in the romance department and I just have to say, this series has one of the best forbidden romances ever.
Bottom line — this series has quickly become a favorite and I can’t wait for the next one. Add these to your tbr, it really is such a fantastic series.

It just felt like they were trying to control her and justify it by saying it was for the greater good. Luckily the second half of the book made up for all my annoyance in the beginning and I’m so happy with how things ended. I’m excited to see what happens next in Eva and Ari’s story!

Eva and Ari may have escaped the Commonwealth, but they are far from free of its reach. Can they reconcile who they are becoming in time to save not only themselves but also those around them, or will they be caught in the Commonwealth's fire once again?
One of my favorite things about this book was how fast-paced it was! From page one the action was almost non-stop, and I could hardly put it down because of that. I was dying to know what would happen next and how the story would unfold, and stopping even for a bit was not an option!
I also very much enjoyed the continued world-building in this book. It was super interesting to see the shapeshifters in such a unique way. I felt like I had never seen a shapeshifter book like this before, and it only served to hold onto my attention even harder!
I really enjoyed watching the way that Eva and Ari grew in this book, not just together but also individually. They had a lot of self-discovering that needed to be done, and I loved watching them figure out who they wanted to be and what they wanted for themselves. Thinking of who they were at the start of the first book and who they are at the end of this book is so bittersweet and makes the story that much more real for me.
And don't even get me started on the plot twists and cliffhanger! I cannot wait to see where this story goes from here. If you are looking for a sci-fi/dystopian series that's full of action and real, raw characters, this is the series for you!

Siege of the Seven Sins is the Sequel to Sword of the Seven Sins. It is the continuing Journey of Eva and Ari on their new route with the opposing group to the place they once lived. Which is part of a larger scope called the brotherhood opposite to the Bellators. New friends are made new enemies, the deciding factor of what motivates who constantly comes about.
Plus alot of jealousy and arrogance. For some reason they also still worship a society that basically screwed them over. Not like Ari and Eva were already arrogant enough... There new group of friends and frenemies Ronan, Jaxon and others come into their lives and protectors. Trust is slowly being built, however new things are revealed that somehow were kept secret.
There is a thing called a Skumaskot and a familiar basically they are shapeshifters and the anchors of the skumaskot. It is supposed to be some sort of old myth in this " universe" but when you are told so many lies what is the truth?
It brings out alot of curiosity and emotions as if what kind of society would model themselves after Romans still? The idea of Eugenics is constantly brought up, gene splicing.

There is a thing called a Skumaskot and a familiar basically they are shapeshifters and the anchors of the skumaskot. It is supposed to be some sort of old myth in this " universe" but when you are told so many lies what is the truth?
It brings out alot of curiosity and emotions as if what kind of society would model themselves after Romans still? The idea of Eugenics is constantly brought up, gene splicing.

This book made my cry so many times and I really went through all of the emotions reading it. My heart broke for Ari multiple times. Can we please stop having him suffer? 😭 I just wanted to give him a hug the entire time. He deserves happiness.
This book definitely was slower in pace than the first one, but I don’t think it took away from the story at all. I still loved it all the same and I really felt the heartbreak and betrayal at certain moments.
Just when I thought Ari and Eva would finally get some peace, it only lasted for 2 minutes and they were immediately thrown back into chaos.
The plot twist at the end had me screaming! I feel like I was almost able to guess it but was never 100% sure until it was actually revealed! So much happened by the end of the book and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds. 😊

Eva and Ari, out of commonwealth and finally together.. or not? ??
I loved the first book alot.. this one felt like a drag with repeatation of events, change in plot, behaviours, and plans. I wasn't as much curious to complete the book as I had expected. I felt disconnected to the main story and main characters and their goal. The genre itself felt shifted.
At first the 'Ari and Eva desperate to be close but kept apart' built excitement, however it later felt like a torture.. because They couldn't catch a break! And I started to stress-out 🤭
The book did end on a intriguing cliffhanger. Which makes me excited for the 3rd book.

2.5 - rly all over the place conceptually and honestly a bit weird. lowkey feels like it should be on wattpad 😳 some typos. the main characters r from a society where there’s like no love and friendship and haven’t even been out of it for like two months probably and like one chapter they’re like asking ppl what friendship is like and then a few chapters later they’re like “im in love w u” and then after that they’re like scared to even think the word “love” again. it makes no sense. i’m still gonna read the last book tho like im entertained nonetheless i just don’t think this is of high quality lol

Since I loved the first one, it's probably not a secret that I loved this one too! Siege of the Seven Sins is the second novel in The Seven Sins trilogy, and as a "bridge book", it starts where Sword leaves off and continues the adventures of Ari and Eva outside the Commonwealth. Again, the masterclass in Emily Colin's pacing is awesome to behold and keeps the novel in your hand. It also answers a LOT of the plot questions asked in the first novel and opens up a whole new can of "what the...?" in preparation for Storm of the Seven Sins, the third in the trilogy being released in February. I cannot love this story enough. I found this novel to be a fast read and would recommend to YA readers everywhere. Many thanks to Emily Colin for the ARC of this novel.

Great follow up to the first book. Seriously, I read until 3 a.m. despite having to work the next morning because I just had to know what happened next. So this book moves a little slower than the first as Ari and Eva navigate their new reality and what that means for their relationship and their place in the resistance. I did want to reach through the pages and shake Eva at times, but thankfully, the girl comes to her senses. I do appreciate the author’s use of language and her descriptions as the story continues to unfold (describing Adrien having a “natural ursine appearance” painted such a vivid picture for me). Her writing style definitely makes it feel like an older YA read which I really enjoyed. I cannot wait for the next book!

This series is wrecking me, guys. The character progression alone is so well written but the emotional tug? I'm a mess.
As I would read, I would find a physical pit in my stomach and giddy flutters in my chest.

I read this and the 1st in the series within a week!!! I can't wait for the 3rd in the series to come out. Pacing of the story was really great and a great continuation of the 1st book.

I enjoyed this book more than I expected to. A lot happened for a second book in a trilogy. The characters didn't grow much, but it was satisfying. I really want to read the third one, but can't find it anywhere.

I have mixed emotions right now
I found ari kind of annoying, honestly Eve trying her best to protect everyone, and all he thinks about is himself. He never talked to her without getting mad.
I wasn't surprised that there were find and I'm glad that she was able to protect him. I feel bad for Jaxon, but at the same time, he made me mad, too. But I got to give it to her. That was a very good plot twist
I can't wait to read the next book

Well, well, well. Did I jinx myself or what? I praised the first book because it didn't fall into the typical YA tropes of a relationship triangle and a chosen one who saves the world and then... book 2 kicks off with, you guessed it.
But Emily gets me. The relationship triangle was more about power and testosterone poisoning then love ever after and resolved itself within the first 1/3 of the book. What really caught my attention in book 2 is how the Brotherhood offers Eva royalty status, honor, respect, and glory and all she has to do is... (well you won't get any spoilers from me.) And she considers it - seriously. Girl loves her pretties, or is it power? With Eva, I haven't quite figured out her motivations.
Ari on the other hand goes a little off the wall crazy. I'm not fond of book boyfriends that are forgiven behavior that we would never accept in the real world. (What kind of message are we sending, anyway?)
Jaxon redeems himself; Sebastian is an awesome guy in a tough position, and the big plot twist re: Eva's parents is a well paved expected conclusion.
Ends on a cliff-hanger.

I got the amazing opportunity to read this book as an ARC and I’d just like to say what a great sequel! In my review of the last book I had said that I hoped that Eva’s abilities would be explored more in this book and it definitely delivered! The pacing was perfect and I loved learning more about this world. There were so many twists and turns and I loved exploring the different relationships between characters and the internal struggle Eva faced when deciding what she should do. The plot twist of finding out about Eva’s background had my jaw on the floor and all I can say is I want to be immersed in this world even more! A great sequel and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

There are so many things to love about this book!
First, the relationship between Ari and Eva is amazing. I love how he respects her, supports her and admires her. They both want what's best for each other, they never put each other down, there's never a question of lessening themselves for the other's sake, which is refreshing, especially when there's a badass female protagonist. Too often I see the "Samantha Stevens Syndrome", where a powerful woman hides her powers, hides her true self in order to avoid threatening her love interest, but that's not the case here. There's trouble, of course, and obstacles and things they need to overcome, but her pretending not to be powerful is never an option for either of them.
Eva learns about her powers and struggles with what it means for her and for the world at large to be a weapon, and Ari struggles to find a place for himself with her, a place where he can honor who and what she is.
But while their love and their story is front and center, it's not the only thing going one. We learn so much about the other houses, the history of this world. The discussions of magic and science are particularly insightful, as are the politics and peace and war.
Jaxon is a wonderful character that is deeper and more complex that he seems at first and it was a joy to read, and Ronnan, a personal favorite, gets plenty of screen time, too.
But the Executioner takes the taco for Best Reveal. There is so much to unpack and no spoilers but this is a great exploration of motivation and greed.
In the end, the book is about love and all the shapes it takes. Is it a force that makes you want to level cities? Is it what makes you want to be a better person? Does its loss give you the right to hurt? Can you ever truly heal without it? Is it a weapon, a weakness, a myth?
Can't wait for the third one!

This might be a strange thing to admit, but I was hoping this series was a duology. Now, however, I have to wait an indeterminate amount of time for the next book to come out. I haven't even found any information about whether or not a third book is actually forthcoming, but it had better be.
I still enjoyed the writing, which was on par with the first book. I didn't appreciate the use of certain language, however. There was some swearing in the first book, but I wasn't expecting the addition of the f word this late in the game. I could have done without it entirely.
To be completely honest, as much as I like Eva and Ari, they scare me sometimes. I understand their training as bellators means they are fighters. But occasionally, each of them seems to almost crave violence. It's a bit troublesome.
When I began reading the first book, I wasn't anticipating the sci-fi portion to take quite the turn that it did. It's kind of morphed into fantasy or something paranormal/supernatural. It's kind of weird, but not quite to the point that I dislike it. Borderline, at times, though. I'm still not entirely sure what to make of it.
Although I liked this book, I feel like it suffered from the dreaded Second Book Syndrome in many ways--relationship issues, new information that complicates everything, a second intended relationship match (though not a love triangle), etc. While the first book was full of angst while we waited for Eva and Ari to get together, the second book was full of pain and heartbreak because of circumstance and expected choices. Witnessing the triumph of love and connection is a truly breathtaking experience. As such, I was thrilled to see that their relationship emerged stronger than ever. However, I found myself yearning for more.
It would be amazing to gain a deeper understanding of the inner workings of their relationship and I hope that STORM delves further into their connection, even if it doesn't end in a happily ever after.

This particular twist brought about a sense of revitalization as it strayed away from the all-too-common trope of deserters being relentlessly pursued and eventually captured. It was a welcome departure from the norm that kept me engaged and intrigued throughout the story.

The idea of this world where the inhabitants live and die by the code of the Seven Sins intrigued me so much. Ever since a Religious Studies class at school, I always found the seven deadly sins to be such a fascinating concept, and so having that incorporated into this was already a selling point. Our main character, Eva, is the kind of person that dystopian novels are made for. She's got some incredible character development, not only throughout the first novel but so much in the second. Her mentor Ari, is not only that but also her love interest. But because love is forbidden, it's pretty much a death sentence to feel the way they do about one another, which over the course of just the first novel, it's pretty clear the feelings are stronger than they both know how to contain.
Pretty soon in the first novel, Eva is chosen as the first female bellator, a killer. She's absolutely horrified that this role has been given to her, and even though she finds out that she's extremely gifted at this new role that she doesn't want, it still makes her feel awful just being in the position she is in - fight and be a killer, or betray the oath she swore to the Commonwealth. With Ari by her side, anything feels possible. But faced with her choice of remaining loyal to her home or risking it all for Ari and a thin chance of freedom, it's not the easiest of decisions to make. But after we see a cataclysmic ending to the first novel and ricochet into the second, it's clear that Eva and Ari have chosen each other and make a break for something better than the life they were living. Though Eva is still a prized possession for the Commonwealth, gifted and vastly needed, and they will stop at no trouble to return her back to them. Only, Eva and Ari - despite free - are heading for another disaster, Eva's tightly bound secret of their doomed love buried deep. It's going to take more than just their love and strength to get through, and many sacrifices.
Overall, I devoured The Seven Sins books with a hunger for every enthralling chapter it had to offer. I was hypnotised by a story world crafted so descriptively magical that I found myself falling deeper into being fully immersed. The books were more than just dystopian, blending adventure, fantasy, realism and romance all together in a perfect potion of words. My favourite character was Eva, fierce and honourable in everything she did - such a memorable MC. I found the way Emily crafted the striking opening lines (especially that first book!) so poignantly that it was impossible to not feel amazed. Although I did find a few of the elements a little confusing, this can happen in fantasy novels with different rules/ways the characters live, but I still adored both of these sparkling novels. I'd highly recommend them to fans of YA Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Dystopia. Four amazing stars for both of these incredible novels!

I'd highly recommend them to fans of YA Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Dystopia. Four amazing stars for both of these incredible novels!

Ahhhh ok. I had to really think about this review. I’ve tried to be vague to prevent any spoilers but there may be slight slips in this review. Please be mindful of that.
And honestly, it’s just my opinion at the end of the day. There’s a bit of genre bending going on here, which I’ve found I actually don’t hate. It feels very dystopian urban fantasy, with more focus on the fantasy element in this book than the prior. I actually really like how this has blended so seamlessly. Fantasy has always been my biggest read area, it’s my comfort zone. Add guns, tech and gen labs in a world rebuilding after destruction? It’s got me interested more than I actually anticipated.

Others may completely disagree with this review and that’s absolutely fine but my tldr of this? I really do like this plot line. I think the books are great. The world building is interesting and the twists that are unravelling are so unexpected.
So, why 3 stars if I love the series so much?
Because, if I’m brutally honest, nothing much happens in this book. 75% of it is angst. It’s a toss up between which path Eva wants to choose. If she leaves Ari, despite how much they gravitate together, or if she chooses the fate that’s expected of her. She has the chance to unite the Brotherhood. To bring everyone together ‘under one banner,’ so to speak. But she wants Ari. Despite everything.
But how can she be selfish? How can she destroy everyone else’s chance at freedom for a love, a life she’s only ever dreamed of. It’s selfish. And Ari? He won’t back down. He tries time and time again to make her see sense. To make her see reason. He can be what she needs him to be. He won’t die. He’s not leaving her unless she sends him away. She can push, they can have little fights but they always draw back to each other. And in the end,
”I choose you.”
And that very brief summary essentially is our focal point. Towards the end of the book, it picks up. The storyline kicks back into full gear and we learn a lot of information that I hope is a prelude of book 3. I’m excited to see how this all play out and I genuinely want to read on. This book in itself, whilst good in its own right, just felt like more of a filler while Eva decided how to play her hand. If there had been a little less of the indecision and the pacing had included a lot more of what we see at the end I’d have been inclined to rate it higher. The writing is brilliant and whilst I completely understand the need for how this has been done and drawn out, I just wanted more.
I can’t wait to start reading book 3 though. Thank the heavens for arcs!

I feel like this sequel deviated from the first in some ways. While I'd describe the first as a dystopian, this one brought on a bit more of a fantasy feel.
In the first book, we're introduced to the Commonwealth, and its strict rules for its citizens. Sins are severely punished, and any type of connection with people is discouraged. Loyalty should only be to the Architect. Families are non-existent, with children now being grown in test tubes. If a child is born naturally, the parents are either exiled or executed for their sin.
Towards the end, we learn that Eva has been experimented on, and has the ability of the Skumoskot, who can transform into various animals. Eva can transform into all four - a seal, hawk, panther or wolf. The changes can be dangerous though, and she needs someone to ground her - and Ari had been selected to be that person.
When we pick up in this book, Eva is trying to train with a different familiar. Every time she changes around Ari, she drains him. A Skumoskot bond with a familiar takes their free will, and their life is bound to them. Even though the bond with Ari is already strong, she refuses to do that to him. Jaxon has been selected to be her familiar from the Brotherhood, and even though training isn't going well, at least he considers the role of familiar an honor.
Ari struggles to find purpose within the Brotherhood. Many still blame him for the bombing and don't trust him. He's kept separated from Eva due to the severity of the bond, but he grows desperate for her. Especially when there's talk of arranging a marriage to another powerful skumoskot, Sebastian, who has the ability to change into a panther.
We feel the pressure of Eva's choices - to follow her heart or go for the good of the many. Marrying Sebastian would strengthen the Brotherhood, but mean she could never speak to Ari again. Not as anything more than a guard. Ari tries to convince her time and again that he is making his choice, that if he can't be with her in any way other than a familiar, then he'd be happy to sacrifice his life for her. Ari's heartbreak and love are so strong, there were several times I had to take a moment to sit with his words.
While at times I found this to move a little slowly, I was still drawn into this world. Now, I am so ready for the next book! I'm glad we have some short stories in the meantime, but I'll definitely be waiting to see how their story ends!
