What a beautiful masterpiece of a book...
Warrior of Legend did not leave me feeling disappointed, actually I think it was better than the first book!
The characters developed so much in this book from the very start to the end and I loved seeing all the povs in this. Gosh, it felt like the plot took you on a rollercoaster ride (and an emotional one at that)!
So many plot twists I couldn't see coming and some almost had me in tears. The writing in this book was quite different from the first, definitely more mature which was a nice surprise!
I had a feeling this book would hurt and...yep, yep it did. I can say I definitely stared at a wall in fits of rage, although that cliffhanger was wonderfully done and I can't wait for the third book!

It’s honestly impressive how not a single character in this whole story ever made a correct decision.
Ok but apparently this is only a duology? I was 100% under the impression that this was gonna be at least a trilogy because I have a million goddamn questions left. There’s SO much left unanswered. Why the hell is this corrupted order still chilling? What happens now after all the bs that went down? The cliffhanger in the epilogue? What? This book was great until the ending, but I was more than fine with it if there was gonna be another book to wrap it all up. Because SURELY there must be, right? If this is the actual end, then literally wtf. I will be forever pissed off if this is actually all we get.

It was good but I didn’t enjoy it nearly as well as the first one. Started off slow for first 150 pages or so and ending was disappointing with a lot left unanswered.

Ok that was unexpected!! I didn’t love it as much as the first, I felt like Reed’s story was put on the back burner and I missed her!! Still an interesting story and I plan to continue.

This is book 2 and I enjoyed it even more than the first. We had more POVs and I felt so invested in each character.
There is war and magic and royalty and matchmaking and monsters and it all worked together so well. It was sad and heartless and I appreciated the darkness of it.
For my fantasy friends that like good world building and a heavier fantasy read, this is worth picking up.
This sounds like another book will be coming and I am here for it.

What the heck, man? We're going to end this duology with two major cliff hangers? That seems very unfair. Kendare Blake writes very readable books even if this series had me rolling my eyes once in a while. Sometimes the characters walk themselves right into a trap to keep the story moving and there's always witty banter during fights to the death. And yet, much like the first book, I would have liked more of this story. I wish it were longer and had time to simmer. I never say that about books. Once again, there are lots of great characters to enjoy and it really makes me think about a Three Dark Crowns reread soon.

What a ride. I loved the first book, Champion of Fate, so I was very excited to get into Warrior of Legend.
It did drag a little for me, but I'm putting that down to my starting a new job, and then my daughter contracting hand, foot and mouth and having two weeks off school. Mild childhood illness, my ass.
Anyway! I was enjoying the story and seeing where the characters were heading and I was, you know, just pleasantly plodding along and then a character death just came out of left field and completely blindsided me and I was sobbing. I've cried at books before but wow, this took me out. It was just so unexpected so bonus points for that and for making me cry so hard I had to mute myself in the discord VC I was in so the others couldn't hear me crying.
There is a slight bit of gore in the book, so fair warning for that. I also had no idea that Three Dark Crowns was entwined so I'll be giving that a read as well!

Amazing. Devastating. Somehow both at the same time.
This was an absolute masterpiece with main characters who broke my heart, but kept me rooting for them. The connection to Fennbirn has strengthened in this second book, and so has my love for both a former Queen and bitey horses.

Reed is busy being a Glorious Death, running through heroes quickly while bringing glory to the Aristene, trying to forget the loss of Hestion's love. Lyonene is unwilling to leave her own first hero, Alsander, and the pair fall even deeper in love as she tries to secure his throne for him. And powerful monsters begin to appear, targeting the Aristene.
I didn't love the first book, but somehow this was even worse. I mentioned previously about the problems with the world building, but wanted to add that the Aristene would be more interesting if they weren't immortal. Sure, give them longer lives, but not forever.
The book is quite slow, as well as drawn-out and silly, with the only interesting parts being about Reed and Lyonene's relationships with their heroes who became their lovers, Everything in Cassor was dull and eventually pretty pointless. The villains' very existence and purpose are only vaguely explained, and we only see basically foot soldiers- no masterminds or higher-ups to put everything into perspective.
The ending is where everything really fell apart. There are also various leftover threads that make little sense.
Personal history: Borrowed from library. This cover art is quite creepy.

This book is abysmally bad. You'd think that some of the issues from the first book would be solved, but instead they're made 10x worse in the sequel. A sequel that was supposed to be the end of the series only for the ending to actually not be wrapped up at all and instead leave so many loose threads I could knit a sweater. Don't worry though because it will all make sense when the crossover book that connects the Heromaker series with the Three Dark Crowns series comes out because that's the real ending (for real this time).
Once again Kendare Blake is too afraid to let time pass for her characters. They are part of an immortal order why does the entire timeline of events for the main plot of the series have to happen in under 2 years. This time Blake doesn't even try to write a compelling main villain. It's just a random guy who wasn't relevant until 75% through the book that gets shoehorned into the role at the end. For a story whose concept revolves around women working either in high political courts or fighting wars Blake has no idea how to write compelling political intrigue. The pacing of this book was so slow. There were so many chunks where nothing was happening to advance the plot.
The most infuriating thing about this book though, was the characters. Not a single one of them good make even one good decision the entire time. Whenever a character was faced with conflict, they made the dumbest decision possible leading to a series of events that of course left them worse off than before. And what the heck was that ending? It ends like the 2nd book in a trilogy, not a conclusion of a duology. There are way too many open questions:

Oh man, how the last chunk of this book had me SEATED! I would be concerned too, with how this ended, if I didn't know Blake was planning on writing another book for the Three Dark Crowns series. I mean, the ending wraps up a lot of things really well, but there is also a bit of a cliffhanger - one that has me thinking there is no way this is a complete duology.
I do think this book dragged a lot more than book one. It was very slow to get into the bulk of things, so I was wondering what was going to happen and when. I definitely could have used a lot more action. There was a continuation of the "corrupted prophet" bones in this installment, but it really does not come into play until late in the book.
Again, I felt like the romance aspect was lacking. Then there was a point where [redacted] happened, and I felt like it wasn't super impactful to me, since I never felt that connection between characters anyway. Of course, a sacrifice will always be noble, but it could have hurt more if I was able to believe there was more romance woven throughout the story. I was more interested in the romance between side characters than the main ones!
All in all, I am eagerly awaiting another book from Kendare Blake. I am so glad I came across Champion of Fate in a bookstore, I had no idea how much I was missing Blake's writing until then. These books do tie into the Three Dark Crows series, and I saw the author state that the next installment in that book will wrap up both series very nicely. Until then...

Death, love, friendship, betrayal. A strong sequel that is full of court intrigue, bloody battles, and magic.
This was intense. I've been avoiding the 500+ page books because they've all been a slog, but I would do anything for Kendare Blake.
There's so much going on here. There's Reed and Hestion; Lyonene and Alsander; Ferreh and Tiern; a new hero forLyonene Reed and so much more. There's new kings, princesses, and princes to love and hate (Ulli ♡!) Blake is queen of court intrigue, she weaves together such amazing stories. There's multiple POVs and they will sometimes switch within the same chapter, but it was never jarring. The characters are apart at the start, handling their own affairs until things converge. Action and pacing are tight and tense throughout. There's plenty of heartbreak, love, and loss. It's a bloody battle with so much at stake.
I loved that we got more Veridian and Aster. It was really awesome seeing the older Aristenes like Aethiel and her ties to Fennbirn. I loved Sar in this too. The whole fourth act was intense. It answered things, it left some things unanswered or open, and it raised some interesting questions. I couldn't have asked for a better book!
I cried and I felt pain. I felt injustice and justice. I laughed lots and I really enjoyed this book. It's such a strong sequel and Kendare Blake is a masterful writer. Please, enjoy this rollercoaster of emotions and wonderfully written battle scenes. It's amazing.
I'm so glad my library has this book and all her others. I always recommend her work! I cannot wait for what's up her sleeve next.

I wanted to really love this series, but I feel like it left me with more disappointment than satisfaction.
I was eager to read a duet as many fantasy books now seem to be 6 books long, but damn this was a disappointment. Both books took over 100 pages to actually start getting interesting and the character development was so restricted to the dead characters that I felt absolutely nothing for their deaths.
The author then decided to end this on a cliffhanger? Like wtf?
Personally I would not recommend these books to people as I feel there are much better fantasy alternatives out there.
The only positive I can give to this read is that I’m excited to pick up another book to forget this tragedy and disappointment.

Honestly, I liked this one even better than the first one - the character relationships, plot, and themes all developed so clearly, the new characters introduced were compelling, and the twists were genuinely shocking. I think I gasped aloud several times in the last 100 pages.
That being said, I would really love to petition Ms. Blake to give us one more book in a timeline closer to the current one, rather than leading us back into the Three Dark Crowns lens to see the final chapter for these characters. That ending was SUCH a cliffhanger, and I don’t feel like Reed’s arc has been sufficiently explored to leave her primary perspective yet. I also don’t feel like we got enough resolution for our mortal secondary characters (Yngarue, Sar, even Alsander) to leave them behind. It’s ultimately a good thing - I was moved enough by these characters to want more of them. So like…. Please? 🙏

Oh man this book.
This was CRAZY.
Honestly, I did not think that the bold choice for Heston at the end would be true until it happened, and I was waiting and he STILL DID NOT COME BACK. and poor princess. Been through so much trauma with her dying brother and dead everyone else. AND reed. Wowowowow reed is a messed up girl by this point. I also was BAWLING when Veridian decided to run into this random portal, and aster had to watch. MY LESBIAN COUPLE NOOOOO. anyway.
I loved this book and would to recommend the series.

I could not put this book down for one second !!! Blake’s writing is always so incredible and has a clear flow that keeps me on the edge of my seat . The ending/battle of the book was shocking in many different ways especially the epilogue cause …. how the heck . Anyways, I look forward to the next book whenever that may be .

Such an epic fucking book oh my good goddess of glory. these characters are it!!! everyone was so fleshed out and real , truly incredible. the whole Heston reed enemies to lovers was a bit harried but after finishing it I see why. literally pumped my fist in the air and yelled yes when I realized the next book is taking us back to fennbirn. In the triplet queens we trust 🫡
Such an epic fucking book oh my good goddess of glory. these characters are it!!! everyone was so fleshed out and real , truly incredible. the whole Heston reed enemies to lovers was a bit harried but after finishing it I see why. literally pumped my fist in the air and yelled yes when I realized the next book is taking us back to fennbirn. In the triplet queens we trust 🫡

exceeded my expectations!! my jaw was and is still hanging wide open bc there’s just no way that this is the end. wow.
I truly grew to love the characters even more in book 2 and glad I got to read from more of their povs, but still at the end I wanted more! there was definitely enough to stretch this duology into a trilogy in my opinion, but maybe that was the authors intention. I’ll be patiently waiting to see if a book 3 comes about. it’s a need.

This was a fantastic sequel and end to the duology, I loved being back in this world with these characters, and how things wrapped up!

Wow, that was a bonkers reading experience. The author pulled exactly zero punches. The ensemble cast is incredible, the story telling so good.
