Death Lore: The Unwitting Apprentice

Rate this book
In the Caribbean Sea, on the island of three peaks, in the rural village of Sangre Grande, a young teenage girl embarks upon a journey that leads her to fulfil her destiny. Rhea, a strong willed, stubborn but good-natured fourteen-year-old girl has always been fascinated by local folklore.

Enticed by village stories, as she gets older, she begins to delve deeper into local myths and legends of the Spirit Lords like Anansy Spider, Mother of Waters Maman Dlo and Father Forest Papa Bois. The girl’s mother however, a strict Christian woman, disapproves of her daughter’s growing interest. Despite her mother's displeasure, Rhea finds it especially difficult to keep away from the ancestral lore and legends when her new neighbour, an old Haitian woman, becomes very willing to humour her interest.

What was at first an innocent fascination, soon becomes a perilous adventure from which the young girl cannot escape. To fulfil her destiny Rhea must survive real life encounters with creatures of myth and aid friends both old and new. She discovers the connection between the living world and the afterlife to be much more complex than she could have ever imagined. Between two worlds, she learns her true purpose, following the call of destiny which tugs and pulls her across both realities.
