When Cynthia Carlson picks up a lost phone at the arena, she never expects it to belong to Jason Kolinski, the captain of the Boston Predators. Returning the phone is proving challenging, though, since it’s hockey season and Jason is never in town.
Not only that, Jason calls her every single day because he’s superstitious and believes that talking to her will help his team go to the playoffs.
Before long, these daily conversations become a source of comfort and hope for lonely Cynthia. She might be falling in love with a guy who is way out of her league…except he’s a lot closer to her than she thinks.

Sasha Clinton discovered romance novels at the age of thirteen and has been addicted to the genre ever since. After getting a degree in Chemical Engineering and realizing that there was no way she could ever be an engineer, she decided to follow her passion and write romance novels.
This romance story combines sports and magic, but unfortunately, it falls short of expectations. A witch falling for a hockey captain seemed promising, but there was just no chemistry between them.
Cynthia is a witch who was overly timid and barely left her home. This is not a PNR though, she is a modern contemporary witch. Jason, the hockey captain, was a stereotypical jock with a happy-go-lucky attitude.
I looked forward to the story. Cynthia finds a phone at a hockey match, on the rare occasion she has left her house. Although to attend a hockey match seems like one extreme to another. When Jason calls to find his phone, he's supersititious to call back every day, and they start to form a friendship of sorts.
I did not like Cynthia, I didn't find anything about her character that made me think she wanted anything to do with Jason. She was grumpy, rude, and dismissive. I struggled to see what Jason might find attractive with her.
Their interactions lacked chemistry, and the development of their relationship was non-existant until towards the end when it became rushed and forced. There weren't any conversations or interactions that made me believe they even liked each other.
This is the first sweet not spicy book I've read in months and I absolutely love it. I love how she's has fears but doesn't try to change to please others, I love how he falls hard and fast without even physically meeting her and in the end there willing to both go the distance definitely need a physical copy for my shelves
Bewitching the hockey captain is a clean sports romance novel by Sasha Clinton. I really enjoyed this short novel. It was short enough to binge read in an afternoon. It was easy to follow and had a great cast of characters. A brilliant novel that I highly recommend.
Bewitching the Hockey Captain is a short and sweet hockey romance with the reverse grumpy/sunshine trope. Cynthia is simply misunderstood. She's introverted and has chosen to withdraw from society because she's often judged harshly for who she is. She values her peace which is maintained by privacy. Jason misplaced his cell phone and the next thing Cynthia knows, her quiet life is disrupted by the talkative hockey captain. Cynthia and Jason don't make sense on paper even as friends but they connect emotionally after talking on the phone daily. Their challenge is whether they can make a relationship work given their differences and the media intrusion.
This was my first sports romance last year and it sent me on a quest to read more of this genre. I liked the characters and the vibe of the story. It was something new and a nice change of pace at the time.
