Mad Max! by Ashlee Ridlon is an okay read that offers a playful take on the antics of a mischievous cat. The story follows Max, a feisty feline who gets into all kinds of silly trouble, which may entertain young readers who enjoy light-hearted animal tales.
While the premise is humorous, the execution feels a bit average. The narrative moves along at a steady pace, and Max's adventures are amusing but not particularly memorable. Some jokes land well, while others may fall flat depending on the reader's sense of humor.
The illustrations complement the story adequately, bringing Max's personality to life, though they may not stand out compared to other cat-themed children's books.
Overall, Mad Max! is a decent choice for a quick and playful read, especially for kids who love cats and enjoy simple, funny stories. However, it may not leave a lasting impression.

⭐️⭐️ / 5 stars * Review by Myself and My 10 Year Old Daughter
Same sentiment as any other book we've read by this author … but somehow more confusing.
This was actually the first book we read by this author, and we finished it just staring at each other like, “So… why is he mad?” No real reason. Just vibes. Just an angry cat, I guess.
Things that stood out ( Again, not in a good way):
- We never really figured out why Max was mad. It just… was.
- The images again felt like stock photos, and my daughter immediately assumed AI.
- The cat didn’t look consistent from page to page.
Final Thoughts:
Honestly, the biggest takeaway for us was that this book gave us hope. Real hope. Like… anyone can write a book. 😭
Not offensive, not memorable for the right reasons, but definitely an experience.
Confusing, hysterically funny, and unintentionally inspirational.

Children will love this story!!
Children will love this zany pills story about Max, the bored and mad cat. Even better, they will be engaged with the story and ESPN join in reciting the repetitive phrase ( A wonderful literary technique!) and will quickly conceptionalize the vivid story so that they are able to recite it themselves or tell their own adaptation of the story thus aiding young children in the literary pro,ass in a fun way!!
Adults may think there's not much to the story, but there really is; this is a perfect story for young children to boost their literary skills!!

perfect for kidos
The illustrations were stop on, I think kids will find the humor in this cat’s antics once they discover it’s a real cat.
Anyone that has ever owned a cat will find Max funny.

Created for young children.
The hunt for Max simplified by spotting his tail behind objects.
Bright colorful scenery enticed one to explore intricate details.
The author translated the cat's moods through its actions.
What would you do if you got mad?
How could you be happy again?

Kid didn't enjoy it
My six year old did not like it, and as it is a kids book, his opinion is the one that matters. Sorry to this author.
