OUR STORY
A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

It’s been over 25 years since I’ve been on an overseas trip and I’m excited to say that 2025 is the year it’s going to happen again. Thank you @lonelyplanet for my gifted copy of Lonely Planet Dream Trips of the World which has helped me plan my itinerary. In typical Lonely Planet fashion, this book is full of gorgeous photos and insightful knowledge to help you plan your trip to one of the top 100 dream travel destinations. I will be visiting a few stops mentioned in the book.

I am so thankful for @lonelyplanet & @sabrina_dax_pr for sharing this amazing book with me. 𝑫𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑴 𝑻𝑹𝑰𝑷𝑺 𝑶𝑭 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑾𝑶𝑹𝑳𝑫 is the escape I have been needing this rainy Saturday!

I have spent much time perusing both places I have always wanted to go, and now places that had never been on my radar until now. I love the places through Europe and the UK, down through Africa and on to Asia and then Down Under and beyond. The America's are fascinating to see what feels more accessible.

In a world that feels more and more chaotic, it is nice to dream. Perhaps someday I can make one of these dreams a reality, but until then, I am feeling immense gratitude to the contributors of books like these that give me real glimpses of the beautiful world out there!

Fantastic book! I was impressed by the level of care and detail applied to each destination. I particularly loved the layout, images, and the suggested itineraries which will no doubt be useful for my own travels to some of these places. It is quite an enjoyable read and will provide inspiration to many. I certainly will be visiting some of the destinations documented inside, which I had no real major desire to see prior to reading this book.

An inspirational collection of beautiful destinations. Well researched with useful insights from travellers, including suggested itineraries depending on how much time you will be spending in that country. Helpful "must see/do/eat/drink" tips as well as travel months to avoid due to either weather or tourist crowds.

Rating on the Goodreads system is sometime difficult. 3 is "I liked it" and I did. It was a lovely book with high quality, relevant photos of locations. I did struggle with having been to some of the locations reviewed and have a VERY different opinion than that of the authors. So, consider this a coffee table book and a tiny into peek into some fabulous locations and enjoy your travels

Natural beauty takes our breath away. Lonely Planet writers take us up close.
As an avid Lonely Planet fan, I have been reading their travel guides for more than three decades. This collection is, as usual, insightful.
Be it Kangaroo Island or the Ningloo Reef, Yellowstone National Park or Patagonia, they are on my wish list.

Jack of all trades master of none. Picked this book up for travel inspiration and felt it was a bit too surface level for me. I think this book is great if your just getting into travelling and need inspiration if youve been to less than 15 countries or finding your feet traveling . Not recommended for backpackers
