When the stone gargoyles in the massive estate I just inherited start to move, I should’ve run for the door, right? So why am I still standing here? One, there was a certain cartoon from the 90s that played a pivotal role in my emotional development. Two, each one of them towers over me, blocking out the light with their massive wings, their serpentine tails flicking as they stalk closer. And three? They tell me I’m their fated mate. That they’re sworn to protect me. That they’ll do anything to keep me safe. And if I agree to become theirs? They’ll spend every night anticipating my every wish and making sure every single one of them come true. Including the ones I don’t dare admit, even to myself. But if the gargoyles can perform miracles for me, they can do that for others, And that puts a target on all of our backs. People have been trying to harness the power of the gargoyles for centuries And now that I’ve awake, they won’t stop until all of us fall under their control.
This is a STANDALONE, a complete story with a HEA and no sequel for this FMC, though there may be others with new FMCs in other books.
I mean the love interests ♡ but Danny, I want and need a Danny in my life. I haven't looked yet but I hope he has his own book. He needs it. The story he has to have healing from his ordeal and figuring out his new found relationship/ships. Even if it's a short read.
This book was an excruciating 70 chapters wo an epilogue. While I don’t mind a long story this one felt dragged out at times. Almost too many details. Weird story flops, missing elements, shit tossed in randomly and chaos. The story just limped at times. The focus was all over the place. I need more about the main characters. There was way too much focus on side characters. I get her bff has his own sexy harem but also IDGAF either. He is a side. Not a main. I want a final look at what the MAIN CHARACTERS are doing.
But whatever.
What bugs me is the short ending.
For all that writing you would think we would get a good epilogue.
So while it is a hea it sort of feels like a HFN. That bummed me out. I read 70 chapters. Wulf gets brought back to life. And then. Boom. Last chapter features her bff and her just chatting. Book done.
Why tf would an author go to all that trouble, world building and writing 70 chapters to not even give her readers a glimpse into their future??
If you love a good long monster smut book wo an epilogue or insight into their future, then this is for you.
I am just not sure if this author is one I will reach for again. I keep getting frustrated with her stories. And. This lack of a decent ending to her UBER LONG story is the final nail in the coffin for me. No more Sam Hall. 😞
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Sam had me at gargoyles (okay, Sam had me before then, me being the superfan that I am) then add in Gothic mansions and a moody vibe and I'm a goner. Plus I was one of those kids that watched the gargoyle cartoon, so yeah, haha.
I don't know what Sam was thinking but there are as many kicked puppy characters as there are jerks. Jade is a kicked puppy, she made poor life choices before we met her, the type that makes me want to scream, and they are still affecting her but I give her credit because she's learning how to pull off those "boss lady" vibes now.
Jade got her Hogwarts letter except Hogwarts was a huge mansion and it's full of big sexy gargoyles. The gargoyles also put out the kicked-puppy vibes with their tragic backstory, it gets me right in the feels because they are the very definition of a fated mate. Jade has some good ones but they went through a lot.
What's a monster book without claws, wings, tales, and fangs and the gargoyles have it. This book was steamy but it also had a glorious plot. There was a carefully cultivated and detailed history of gargoyles and witches with a dash of Australia's own history. The magic was pretty impressive kinda wish there was a little more of it. There were major creepy vibes at times. Sam set the vibe with dark histories that deal with ghosts and dark magic cults that deal in decadence, orgies, and debauchery. It was so good and the plot twist, was completely unexpected.
Hearts of Stone was perfection. Sam gave us something epic. Gargoyles and witches, curses and cults, the power of fated mates, and a female finally learning to own her own power. Best of all there are possibilities for more books set in this world.
As much as it pains me, I'm going to have to give up on this book. The story is immensely interesting and I read more than I wanted to just see, but there's a point where you throw in the towel. Strike 1 was Daniel. He's such a cliche it's almost painful and he might be touted and the BFF but he is childish and annoying and I was hoping someone turned him to stone. Then there's the mfc. My biggest pet peeve is when people ignore the obvious or bury their head and refuse the obvious. My second pet peeve is when someone new to a world acts without thinking and ignored everyone who does know better. She does both, multiple times. You can't blindly ignore all the facts, then try and do whatever you against the advice from people stronger and that been alive for thousands of years.
This story definitely has quite interesting elements: from the Gothic vibes that the Mansion gives to the unique stories of the Gargoyles that protect it. I liked this book as it did offer that magical world of paranormal creatures, power, destiny and of course, secretive origins that turn one mere human's life upside down. Another thing that stood out here was the theme of friendship and I loved that element between Daniel and Jade. Although there is a fated- mates trope here at play, I did feel like the romance was rushed. It would have been nice if things progressed more gradually. Overall, this was a pleasant paranormal story to read and it did offer some rather intriguing mythical creatures.
This overall was a unique story of a woman who inherited an estate complete with a group of cursed gargoyles. The relationships build throughout the book but very unevenly and at times the focus of the plot becomes confusing. The magic use kind of comes out of nowhere, as does the conclusion, and then the book ends literally mid conversation. But this isn’t a cliff hanger? Overall, again, interesting premise, but what felt like a hasty execution.
I don't know how Sam Hall does it, but everytime she writes a book, it becomes my new favorite thing.
Gargoyles? *swoon* I was SO here for this and found myself flipping the pages never wanting it to end.
I loved Jade. I loved seeing her character grow, and her relationship with her bestie Daniel was hilarious- I always love the side characters in Sam's books.
The spice was hot, hot, hot! So steamy. I loved how tender and dirty her gargoyles were with Jade. The spice was off the charts! (Plus, I also love when monsters have special *equipment*
Hearts of Stone was a great monster standalone! Definitely recommend for those who love books with character growth, steam, and monster goodness! (Also, if you loved the tv show Gargoyles- this one's for you!)
Tropes and themes: plus size FMC, fated mates, magical Adelaide, witches and gargoyles, mate marks, unique monster peens (built in Ben Wa Balls 👀), small mysteries and suspense, gothic vibes, boss b!tch FMC, possessive and obsessed gargoyle MMCs, and some darker themes that might be difficult for some readers.
Spoiler Free Summary: Jade’s life is a dumpster fire. She’s stuck living with her ex, who she found screwing his employee on his desk, and now she and her best friend Danny have lost their jobs. But her bad luck changes when it’s revealed that she’s the heir to a huge mansion that comes with a sizable inheritance. Her new digs are amazing, but come with a dark and disturbing past that might just come to bite her and her newly found gargoyle boyfriends in their stony behinds.
Thoughts: Let me start by saying, these monster peens are officially my new favorite. How Sam imagined these absolutely perfect peens is beyond me, but perfection they are.
Okay, back to the meat of this review. Sam does it again. I’m obsessed. I loved the setting, the mansion, the grounds, the creepy torture building, the gargoyles…I loved the whole vibe.
The FMC is Sam’s signature badass, plus size baddie with a backbone and strength, and loved her story and seeing her come into her own. I also really felt for her bff, Danny, and his story.
I was not excepting all the magic and wizardry in this story and let me say it was a hugely pleasant surprise. Magical Australia is something I didn’t know I needed but am so glad that Sam gave it to me.
The overall plot was so full of twists and turns and had me questioning things and feeling the waves of emotion as things were revealed.
Definitely recommend this story to monster romance lovers, PNR readers, and Sam Hall fans and newbies.
Kindle. Standalone. I don’t know if it was writing style or just how the plot was layed out and developed, whatever it was it wasn’t something I liked. I felt the plot read all over the place. The FMC and really all the characters were way too obtuse, in a roll your eyes kinda way. Transitions between storyline developments were lacking. Could have a used a bit more world building. I did like the obsessive and protective males. Had spice but no real development anywhere else.
For it being a standalone it was fine but the plot just didn’t have a flow to it and was cheesy. The further I got into the story the more it lost my interest I was struggling to finish especially by the second half. Thought the story might pick up further into the book I got, it didn’t and the end was flat. A HEA but a boring read overall the plot line was barely held together and a bit random at parts.
I think it was a really fun story idea just wasn’t executed to my preferences and plainly lost my attention.
Although this wasn't shifters, it still has everything you can expect from a Sam Hall book (not that I have read ALL of them, just some of the most recent ones): fated mates, instalove (from the guys), a wounded woman who deserves to be cared for at long last and guys who are born to do just that, and interesting worldbuilding. Oh, and unique peens. How could I forget that? (I'm asexual, that's how lol.)
Based on the blurb, I did not expect this to go so hard into the outside world of the paranormal, bringing in witches and warlocks and satyrs and other paranormal stuff. But it worked. It went harder into the worldbuilding and lore than I expected, but it was enjoyable, and I really loved seeing Halls' imagination soar in this. I had a really good visualisation of the beautiful estate.
But...
It would have been nice if Jade somehow found a way for the gargoyles to actually be part of her everyday life, not just her night time bed buddies, because some of them at least seemed pretty keen on impregnating her, and I got really sad thinking about how even though she's rich as fuck now, she's still going to be raising kids alone during the day while their daddies sleep, and what if there's a complication with the birth and she has to go to hospital and none of them can go with her? I mean, yes, Jade could literally pay anyone to do anything and have her babies at home in a fancy water bath but what if they're born during the day? Imagine Jade yelling "Just wait until your fathers wake up!" when she's frazzled from chasing around after rambunctious toddlers. That's why I was hoping that the character that ended up being a bad guy was actually somehow going to help her resolve this issue, which is referred to as a 'curse' in the book (curses can be broken, yes?), and then she could date them during the day and take four incredibly hot dudes on vacations and imagine trying to go on a cruise with boyfriends who turn to stone during the day. Instead of being a wicked badass with four doting men, everyone (and especially in the rich society she's now part of) is going to think she's this pathetic fat chick who can't get/keep a guy when she goes to some outdoor wedding alone, and it's not like she can tell people, "Oh, I have four hung fated mates who adore me, but they're supernatural creatures, you wouldn't understand." She's got so much money but is she going to be stuck in that house and never get to see the world because her fated mates are stone during the day? I'm definitely overthinking this because I can't even remember if Jade said she wanted babies or to travel, and there wasn't an epilogue (WHICH I AM FINE WITH I THINK THEY ARE WEIRD). I dunno, it's a HEA but for me it's really kind of bittersweet.
OK the BABY ISSUE ASIDE because I don't actually want to be part of the heteronormative discourse that says all romances need to end with babies because I don't think that AT ALL, I just thought it was sad that Jade didn't really get to have everything after all. On the flip side, this could be the PERFECT relationship because then you can do whatever you want during the day and no one's bothering you to run around after them and tend to their needs all the time and put them first. Yep, and I'm back to overthinking.
I absolutely loved this story!!!! Sam Hall has done it again. Loved reading about Jade. Her best friend Daniel had me cracking up at some parts. Just some of the things they both said had me laughing. Loved the fact the story had gargoyles. Those are a favorite of mine. Storyline was phenomenal. Definitely recommend reading. So so good!!!
First things first, I definitely want more of this world and the gargoyles finding their mates. Gargoyles, witches, magic, and an interesting storyline, couldn't ask for more! I found myself so caught up in this story and needing to know what happens. Being a huge gargoyle fanatic, these guys were freaking awesome! I loved them and this book so much!
It was ok. The spice was spicy for sure, but there were a lot of plot holes and loose ends that were left flapping in the wind. The villain was really predictable and I saw it from his first appearance. And I literally HATED the sidekicks personality. I almost DNF’d a few times because of it. Totally annoying. And the needing was just like ok I’m done writing, fin. And you’re left with um what???
I had written a decent size review, but then Goodreads shut down on me. Soooo condensed version: lots of things brought up like they’d be an integral part of the story, and then dropped like hotcakes so you’re wondering what was soo important about it being brought up over and over again. When you get to the pearls… please explain what you think that’s about. It just reminded me of shifter smut with their knots… but it said pearls so in my head I was thinking they were like foreskin implants… but then the scenes where they were involved were a tad confusing… might just have been me….
I understand trying to help people in abusive relationships however I wanted a story about gargoyles. If I'm being honest the beginning was a drag and I kept reading thinking okay we will get there, we will get to the plot. However there is more attention on the house, the heroines best friend, body shape, then smut. I just gave up because I started skipping a lot.
Hated it. Seriously, what an awful book. Sam Hall is usually one of my favorite authors, but she really dropped the ball with this book. The entire book was unnecessarily confusing and very few things were described in enough detail. Like the Four Families? They're talked about and seem to be semi important, but Jade goes to an auction and pisses off a bunch of the wives and then we don't hear anything else about them? There are just so many weird plot holes. More characters and plot additions were being added way to far into the book, like 60% in and we're adding a new conflict? None of it made a ton of sense and I was able to understand Crescent City. The gargoyles pearls? Described as actual pearls the first time around, but later they seem more like rings when Jade is getting railed? Just a ton of inconsistency and nonsense. Despite the smut being on point (per usual, Sam), I wanted to quit reading this so many times, but I continued reading in case it got better. It didn't. Don't read this.
I love Jade and her journey from beginning to end. Her and her bestie give you all the feels while they navigate her exiting a ridiculous relationship and her life suddenly getting flipped on its side at the same time. Sam Hall does a great job introducing us to a world of magic embedded where we exist everyday while providing delicious steamy scenes along the way. Don’t want to give too much away but thoroughly enjoyed this new world Sam has introduced!! I hope I see more gargoyles…
I read this book as a part of my Kindle Unlimited membership. At this point, I believe I have read most of Sam Hall’s books. I love the diverse characters, powerhouse FMCs she writes and the collective men in each FMC’s life. Additionally there are always support characters who warm your heart I wish I could meet in real life.
Reverse Harem Curvy FMC - no significant body shaming or focus on body negativity, just your standard female insecurities HEA No cheating Fantasy and Magic
I thoroughly enjoyed this read - I couldn't put it down! It was so much fun and held my attention the whole way through.
What happens when you inherit a massive estate that is guarded by several menacing gargoyles...and those gargoyles move on their own? Oh, and they’re telling you that you’re their fated mate?
The side characters were just as enjoyable to read about as the main ones (I low-key want a Daniel novella, or something cause he was HILARIOUS). I really enjoyed the banter between Seneca & Carrick & I don’t think I could choose a fav fella.
Sam Hall’s books are always so amazing - she really knows how to reel ya in with the plot and make you root for the characters! Sam has quickly become one of my fav authors & I can’t wait to continue reading more of her work! I also highly recommend Sam Hall’s “Ursa Shifters” series - 10/10
Tropes & Things: -why choose -fated mates -rags to riches -body positive -insta love -HEA -size difference
Hearts of Stone was my first ‘monster’ romance book, and it did not disappoint!
I’ve read a LOT of shifter and paranormal books before, but this was my first one with beings that didn’t have a ‘human’ side. I mention this because I kept waiting for them to shift and then had a ‘duh’ moment a quarter of the way through the book lol.
The Gargolyes are similar to the author’s bear shifters - they’re mostly sweet, with hints of mischief…in only the best ways. There’s no alpha-hole tendencies, only swoon-worthy devotion to Jade, their mate.
The book starts out with Jade and her hilarious, snarky bestie, Daniel. I was rolling with some of their comments as I read the book.
Jade put off her education for her a$$hole ex, but due to life circumstances, she’s currently still living with him while looking for a place of her own. Enter, one giant inheritance.
Jade finds herself suddenly ridiculously wealthy, and is learning about her magic and new world. Oh, and the mates that only come to life at night 🤩
I found Jade to be likable as a character. She’s not ‘woe is me’ or a size 2 blonde. She also doesn’t do stupid things - I hate when the characters in the book make dumb, stupid decisions. This book doesn’t have that.
The world-building is enough so you know what’s going on, yet also leaves room for more books IF the author chooses. This is a standalone, but I could see other books in the Gargoyle universe.
I will say there were two things I was a little confused about: the timeline of Whitely heirs, and more about how Jade’s magic works near the end. To be fair, I was reading this while sick, so it’s possible that’s what was causing my confusion. I only mention because I caught myself wondering a couple of times, not because they were actual issues. In general, I found the book to be super entertaining and a great read!
As always: - As with all of the author’s books, the story is unique and not formulaic - Please read the trigger warning. There is some violence against a side character that happens off screen. To read this one, click on the "sample" and it will be included in the download.
**I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review**
Hearts of Stone Wow! Just Wow! Sam blew me away with this one. It felt like a standalone but could easily be a series. That’s how much I loved the characters. Her gay bestie was the one that helped Jade reach her destiny. Convinced her to go to a haunted house that somehow caught her attention. From there, her life changed dramatically. I loved how she somehow exuded big dik energy, it was a beautiful transition from the start of the book, I loved how she dominated the “boys club” or the First Family meeting. I loved reading her thoughts and getting to read how she made sure she was not one to mess with, her power shut them right up. We saw a side to Jade that is very relatable in real life, cheating happens, but it really connected me to her when she started realize how toxic it had really been. How others could be in similar situation but didn’t have the same fairytale ending she got. Her character was written beautifully. It broke me to read what she had to put up with during her point of views. Her ex was a real prick, and so it was beautiful to finally see her stand up for herself. Then Justice came along and helped his situation along, I loved reading the ex gets karma served on a silver platter. I loved reading the thoughts of her gargoyles. They each had such different personalities, but they all were instantly gone for Jade the moment they saw her. She was hesitant but she didn’t wish wash about it. She made sure to ask questions, and she never treated them like they were less than her. I think is the start of a fabulous series of standalone’s of how the underdogs are finally getting the chance to find their own fated mates. Amazing read. I’ve been in a book slump, no book or a series could hold my attention. This had me not wanting me to put the book down and blow off work. I’m choosing the think that I got to savour the small amount of pages I got to read and crave it that much more.
This is definitely for those that watched Disney’s Gargoyles and wished you could fly away in the night with Goliath and his friends. This is a little bit of that and a little bit of the adult version of that, Gargoyles 2.0
It was an entertaining read. I found I was sucked into the story pretty quickly and actually liked the FMC. She’s had it hard recently and she deserved a big break. You definitely will not like her ex-boyfriend, and I feel like he deserved a bit worse than what he actually got. Our MMCs, the gargoyles, loved them. I wish we had more time with them, but you know, the whole turning to stone during the day thing.
One of the author’s strengths is her ability to write side characters that are just as interesting as her main characters. I’ll be honest, the FMC’s best friend annoyed me. Not counting him, I did enjoy the other characters. I could easily see the author expanding the world with some of these side characters, as well as other gargoyles we had met.
When it comes to the story, it was entertaining. I feel like this book probably could have been split into two so we could do a deep dive into the history of pretty much everything. I think it would have been nice to see more of the first families, the history of the gargoyles themselves and had the relationship between FMC and the MMCs go a little bit slower. It is entertaining, but I felt like I had more questions at the end.
I really hope that the author writes another book in this world or writes a novella to answer some questions and just explore more. I feel like gargoyles and their protectiveness haven’t had their time to shine within monster romances and I hope this is the start of a new trend.
Jade, you badass girl boss!!! Ever had a character that does exactly what you’re thinking? Jade did that for me!
Jade, and by extension her BFF Daniel, becomes the heir to an enormous fortune. This includes property, money, a known family name, and a bunch of (spicy) gargoyles. After being stuck in a stasis for a while, Jade ends up waking a few of them up. Graven, Carrick, Seneca, and Wulfstan are haunted by actions of previous masters and wake up to find their new mistress of the house, Jade.
I thought the concept of gargoyles, their histories and lore, new and interesting. It’s not something I’ve seen, and I had a lot of fun reading this one! Hall pulled all these characters together with each personality shining through.
While the story is based around Jade, and her Flock, Daniel’s character had to be my favorite! (Then again, I have a special place in my heart for all of Sam Hall’s sidekicks.) He, also, gets his HOA! Which made me do a little happy dance!
The book was good, but I feel it hits a lot of concepts that could be elaborated on. This is a standalone, at this time, but I feel as this has a lot of potential for more storyline. This isn’t to say the story line lacks in anyway, I feel everything came to a nice conclusion that allows for more or is complete as a single book.
Either way, I enjoyed all the ups and downs of the story along with a new feminist legend rocking the pages! Here for the spice? It’s hot-hot-hot!!! I will mention, there is some off page abuse/partner violence, check your triggers. As always, I look forward to what’s next coming from Sam Hall!
Sam's captivating tale lured me in with its blend of gargoyles, Gothic mansions, with an irresistible moody atmosphere. As a fan of the Gargoyles cartoon from the 90s, the inclusion of these mythical creatures was an instant win for me.
Within the narrative, there is a mix of characters that tugged at my heartstrings. Jade, our FMC, with her tumultuous past and newfound determination to exude confidence, stood out as a character on a journey of self-discovery and growth, captivating me with her evolution into a boss lady.
Jade's enchanting journey unfolds within a mansion reminiscent of Hogwarts, inhabited by captivating gargoyles with tragic pasts that resonate deeply with themes of fate and destiny. The blend of supernatural elements – claws, wings, tales, and fangs (and fancy peens)– adds a layer of intrigue to the story, complemented by a steamy ‘why choose?’ romance and a carefully crafted plot steeped in history and magic.
Hall masterfully weaves a tale of gargoyles, witches, curses, and cults, interwoven with Australia's rich history and dark, eerie vibes that heighten the suspense and intrigue. The narrative unfolds with unexpected plot twists that keep readers engaged, while also exploring themes of empowerment and self-discovery amidst a world teeming with magic and mystery.
My only disappointment with this book is the epilogue. It was cut so short and it didn't feel like we got a true HEA Epilogue. But other than that, a solid Gargoyle Monster Romance. 🌙🗝️📖
I enjoyed this book so I’m going to give it 3.5 stars. I liked where everything went and I enjoyed reading about the gargoyles and the supernatural world that was separate from humans. It was different and a fresh new perspective than what I’m used to reading.
But there were moments when I felt the romance and other stuff was rushed through rather than the medium pace that the book had been set in thus far. Overall I enjoyed reading about our main FMC and her gargoyle men and her bf was a real one and so was the crap they both went through. I loved the storyline and the new and exciting world of gargoyles as you don’t really read much of that when it comes to the supernatural world which I throughly enjoyed.
It just wasn’t as fantastic as I hoped it would be. The pace was all over the place, there were moments where I felt the story was so in depth and then others where it was just so shallow, and the exit was so quickly done so hasty that I felt it wasn’t as wrapped up and done as well as it could’ve been.
All in all I’d say it’s a good book and the writing was rather good so I’ll end this as I always do and say to the author job well done, I did enjoy this story and could see the potential thought for me it fell kinda flat and to the reader just because something’s not my cup of tea doesn’t mean it won’t be someone else’s so if gargoyles and romance are your cup of tea then I’d try this book because you might love it.
As my first Gargoyle read, I have to say that I'm super glad it was a Sam Hall book because she can reel you in like no other. The characters, the plot, the world...I just want MORE! I love this new world of gargoyles and every one of the side characters as well (I sure hope that they all get their own story too). This book was a bit more "accepting" and insta attraction than some of her other more angst driven books. The MMC's were quite smitten with the FMC and treated her so preciously, which was fun to see with them being well, big stone gargoyles. I loved all the relationships that were formed throughout the book and especially loved Daniel, her best friend (all the crazy that happens with that...just wow...on so many levels) who we got to witness go through his own struggles. There were a few twists, a few tears, a lot of smexy times, some swooning sweet times and a few brutal moments that just made you want to reach out and hug them. I do however wish this was a duet. I would have loved to have had some of the characters more fleshed out, simply because I wanted to get to know them better. If you love some sweet and sexy gargoyles or want to give them a try, I highly suggest reading this! Hopefully there will be more to come in this world🤞
If you are unfamiliar with Sam Hall, I hope you come to love her writing and world building just as much as I. She writes complex multi layer characters throughout her stories. She writes with a realness that gives life to them and allows you to see them as more than just bit of quick acquaintance interaction, but as a friend that you may have only known a little while but that you hold dear. Her female leads are always stronger than they realize even if they are just discovering themselves. They have true relationships that support and at times challenge them to become more mature and own their power rather fantastic or not. This story meets those expectations and surpasses them. As a long time reader my reviews tend not to focus on the storyline, it’s excellent, as much as the social awareness gems within. It is a HEA standalone and you can read it without focus on the pieces I pull out as literary social commentary, you might even prefer to skip over the details and depth I lust for. Regardless this is an amazing read that I enjoyed and hope you will as well. I think my very favorite theme throughout this novel is that it honors that financial independence is an essential part of being able to live with decisiveness. It shows how insidious the financial systems that patriarchal societies depend on can be towards those without financial stability. It’s not the entire book obviously, it’s full of love, action, character growth and development. There is also a very real nod (side character who is bestie) to how BDSM can be used against someone who is without the ability and knowledge to give safe consent. Also that non-cisgender persons have a different level of justice they can expect than traditional persons. Another often avoided topic in novels, most want to show all the kink and none of the boundaries and after care and that everyone is treated equally in law.
