Scarlet Witch, Vol. 3: Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver

Rate this book
Celebrating the 60th anniversary of Marvel’s super-powered Avenger siblings, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are back in a series of their very own!

Wanda and Pietro Maximoff have been mighty heroes, Avengers…and sometimes even villains. But above all, they are twins who will look out for each other, no matter what. So when Wanda receives a letter from their recently deceased father figure, Magneto, that she knows would upset Pietro, she burns the letter before her brother can read it. She may have the best intentions, but you know where that leads…and her fateful decision will drive the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver apart at the worst possible time. Because a new threat heralded by the Wizard — with a horrifying eldritch upgrade — is coming for their heads, and if they can’t find a way to repair their damaged bond, it will cost them their lives! Can even these powerful siblings withstand the Wizard’s Frightful Four Hundred?!

Wanda and Pietro finally get their own book (for their sixtieth anniversary) and it’s great! I love seeing these two together and we even got Vision, Speed, Viv, Darcy, Monet (blink and you’ll miss her) and Magneto thrown in for good measure.

Here’s hoping it’s not another sixty years before the next one…

Why would Magneto say something so mean to Quicksilver. Damn that letter was brutal as hell. I think it’s so dumb how they’re doing the numbering for this, I don’t see why this wasn’t released as issues 11-14 when it is listed as Volume 3 AKA continuing the story of 1-10. Because now they’re starting at 1 again for what I imagine is just volume 4. I’ve bumped into the same issue with the She-Hulk comics that are coming out right now. Didn’t know it was actually like volume 5 and 6 to a 2019 series. This story was decent, the villain a little silly and dumb. Very excited to see who this angel is though and how powerful they might be.

Tommy calling him Uncle Pietro. Vision calling them family. Ex-Brother-In-Law energy. A weird canon of them being adopted. The usual.

A fast-paced, no breaks family feud. Good artwork and a decent story that is a bit overdone in places but also a preview for things to come as well.

The Maximoff twins against each other? Both are known to be hot-headed. Now, their concern for each other is pitting them against each other. However, is this part a bigger divide and conquer plan? An upgraded old villain returns a new villain is making their debut. What happens when Wanda is pushed too far?

A decent continuation of the series. It hot better the further the book went. The bonus of the old X-MEN issues was okay and showed that Maximoff's hearts were dort of in the right place. The book also contains a varient covers gallery.

Kind of blows the series up a little.....and heads it in another direction.

Lots of supporting characters make it fun...and plenty to build on.

Imagine grieving the death of your boyfriend and when he comes back to life he breaks up with you.

Overall the series was really good, I was worried that it was going to feel rushed because it's only four issues but that's far from the truth, the art was gorgeous, although I wish they would stop white washing pietro, my online real complain is the dialogue was occasionally clunky.

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver battle the Wizard, who is being controlled by a mysterious angel figure. Do we ever learn who the big bad is? Do we read loads and loads of dull dialogue between the main characters regarding whether their team-ups are helping or hurting the world?

A pretty bland read, despite the seemingly cosmic stakes. Nice to see Vision again, I guess, and the art is decent (though lacking backgrounds). Quicksilver feels like an ancillary character here, even though he's in the title. Doubt we'll see him again soon.

Great villain, great storyline, the ending was weird as the logic behind a revival was not needed? But overal a fun quick read

This was good. Wanda gets to go off, and i am here for it. I was also thrilled to see a certain red synthezoid make an appearance. This continues to be a great series. I hope we continue to get more Wanda, and her dashing speedster brother would be most welcome, too.

In reality, this is the next volume of Scarlet Witch's series....but....not??
Numbering be damned, they'll restart the series AGAIN after this mini-series(?) is finished.

To sum this up:
Magneto has died on Arrako (Mars) and his last notes to his children wind up on Wanda's doorstop. So shocking was the message he left, that Wanda burned the package and note before Pietro could look. As usual, the siblings bicker over the necessity of reading the final thoughts of someone who had a lot of contempt for Quicksilver.

Meanwhile...
The Wizard shows up with a cosmic(?)upgrade and surrounded by his...'Frightful Four Hundred'. He claims he's been given a holy task by an 'angel' and he now has a holy mission to kill Wanda and Pietro before their chaotic nature can end all of reality.

Bonus: Special appearances by Speed, Vision and Viv
---
Future plot guess...
Hickman left G.O.D.S. open ended and they've claimed there's BIG things coming to the MU. Maybe this angel is somehow connected to these cosmic changes coming down the pipeline?

The death* of Magneto brings twins Wanda and Pietro back together again, only to find that the magnetic mutant can still wreck havoc on their lives when he's dead. Plus the Wizard's targetting Wanda and her family, so that's always fun too.

Another solid entry into Steve Orlando's ongoing Wanda story. I love that he never shies away from the complicated history Wanda has with pretty much everyone around her, but none more so than her family. Vision, Wiccan & Speed, and of course Quicksilver all get to show up in these four issues as a magical and technological threat puts them square in the crosshairs. It's an interesting new direction to take the Wizard, a little Doc Ock, a little insane, and a lot of fun.

If you need more Wanda, then this is where to go, and it's just another stepping stone in the larger story Orlando's telling.

this is a very quick read cause it is full with action! if you're a huge fan of the twin, you're gonna be super duper amazed by this volume! with Wanda being a bad-ass as usual teaming up with the magnificent Quicksilver, joined by the..oops! no spoiler! i guess you gotta have to read it by yourself. Even though sometimes i'm lost on the words & sentences used by Steve Orlando (too philosophical, i guess?) but all the action & fights are make up for it. this is absolutely my favorite of the volumes so far! keep it up, Steve! oh, and thank you for the beautiful artwork by Lorenzo Tammetta..thank you! love this!

I’ve been pretty on board with this series but this particular volume was pretty boring? I think Magneto has been over-centered at the end of this Krakoan Era, and while it makes sense for him to be a factor here, it just feels overwrought. The crap with The Wizard and this impending doom Angel are just so boring and while getting Vision in the mix, the discord between Wanda and Pietro also just never really clicks. Definitely a step backwards from what felt like a soft-parallel to All-Star Superman focusing on Wanda. I’ll dip back in for the next collection but if it follows this trend, it might be time for me to duck out.

I MUCH preferred this volume to the previous two. However, what was the point in creating this as a separate volume as a 1-4? And then restart the Scarlet Witch series again as a number 1 shortly after? It's a stupid idea that Marvel keeps doing this repeatedly.

That aside, I loved this one. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are a great combo and I wished we saw the twins have shared narratives like this more often.

Plus that art was beautiful!!

Overall - 4/5

"Scarlet Witch: Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver" is a real let down from the previous two volumes in the series. The book is convoluted, hard to follow and has a decidedly unappealing and lackluster villain. There is a cool team up between Wanda and Pietro as well as a few welcome appearances form other family members and friends. However, it is not enough to salvage this book. All in this book feels transitional and inconsequential.

Good Art. I was initially disappointed by how long Wanda and Pietro seemed to be separated within the series but it gave time for each to confide in important secondary characters. Run feels slightly brief. Maybe some flashbacks to backup Magneto's assertions in the letter would make it feel less out of nowhere.

i’ll be excited to read the other volumes (since i read this one out of order) but i wasn’t in love with the story. it was just interesting to know how the characters relate to the comics compared to the movies since i’ve never read the comics

Loads of portentous cosmic guff about fate versus chaos that never quite convinces, and a cliffhanger that only works if you forget the powers of every character it supposedly jeopardises, but damned if the sibling dynamics aren't done with painful precision.

This one had too much Quicksilver, which I get he is her twin, but comic Quicksilver is the arrogant jerk character that hasn't rub off on me yet. I do like Wanda and his relationship. It felt like a very realistic sibling relationship. Also happy to see Vision.

Better than expected, with an odd villain dusted off with new upgrades and a clean art style, this series works well in fun adventures, with a bit of therapy thrown in
