“Could October 7 happen in America? Yes. And much worse. Forewarned is forearmed. Read Colonel K’s latest. Now!” Dr. Sebastian Gorka, Radio Host and National Security Strategist“America is one giant soft target. Kurt’s narrators tell tales of the nightmare scenario open borders can bring.” Jim Hanson, Author and Special Forces VeteranFrom the author of the bestselling Kelly Turnbull People’s Republic series of action novels comes his latest thriller, THE ATTACK. Set in the very near future and ripped from today’s headlines, THE ATTACK is a terrifying novel that describes in frightening detail exactly how America’s enemies could launch a massive terrorist assault here at home. From the White House to the Middle East, from the blood-stained streets of America’s suburbs to the cockpit of a B-2 bomber that will initiate the first blow in America’s merciless vengeance, THE ATTACK blends vivid realism with stirring action. With input from key military and counterterrorism experts, THE ATTACK tells the story of a cunning, implacable, and brutal enemy taking advantage of a confused and weak president to launch an assault that dwarfs Hamas’s strike on Israel. With a wide-open border and American law enforcement focused on churchgoers and parents attending schoolboard meetings, the jihadist enemy can pick the time and place for its deadly attack. The only things standing in its way are the courage of America’s brave first responders and military, as well as regular citizens who are caught up in the bloodshed and are forced to fight back.

I hate this book, go read it.

Sorry Kurt, I read it in a day and I hated every second of it. The dog rescue chapter was raw. I think you could have gone harder on the New York politician, but it was ok. Overall it just made me feel it. I'm 55 and Reagan was my commander in chief, I'm a Fort Benning alumni of a couple of schools and this book was just a pinch real. Nothing over the top. No heroic Rambo. Just too real. God help us.

Attack, and then the Counter-Attack

I have just read the book that he has written. It was (is) all too real of a scenario. Think a Tom Clancy novel turned into a movie, times TEN worse or more!!!!! It has SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME !!!!!! Reading about it is one thing, but to be seeing it in reality would be much much worse.

This event is told from the viewpoint of the participants/survivors, some 5 years after the fact. Without giving everything away, it’s a fictionalized nation-wide coordinated terrorist attack scenario by 10,000 terrorists (!!!!!!!!), aiming at the destruction of the very “center of power” in America—the morale of her people. Islamic Fundamentalist TERRORISTS had been either admitted as “refugees”, or just walked across an open and unprotected Mexico/USA border—sound familiar?

It occurs over a 3-day period at the end of August 2024 based upon the calendar days-of-the-week which are specified and other events, such as a demented and decrepit POTUS running for re-election; other current political figures who are identifiable (a VP and her word-salad speeches, a “DOCTOR FLOTUS”); a vicious pet POTUS dog; and a drug-snorting addled-brain POTUS son.

There are three (3) separate targeted attacks; a different one each day.

Day 1–multiple small cell terrorist units (mostly 4 or 5 terrorists per cell) acting independently of each other, attack “soft targets” (schools, shopping areas, hospitals, etc.) all at the same time (12Noon Eastern) nationwide. They are called “soft targets” because of minimal security around them. Law enforcement responds to “active shooters” scenarios but are quickly overwhelmed, as there are multiple shooters and multiple locations in each city that is targeted.

It is now no longer a “law enforcement issue”; it has become a “war” fought on the homeland, far exceeding “9-11” and Pearl Harbor combined. And then, many ordinary Americans decide that they aren’t gonna put up with this shit and take a stand too.

Day 2-the FedGov and StateGovs order people to stay home (as in CoVid lockdown) in case there are such repeated attacks. But different terrorist cells have new targets; they ATTACK PEOPLE IN THEIR HOMES. What happened to Israel on October 7, 2023 is the scenario, but on a much larger scale but with equally horrific results.

Day 3-the targeted locations are infrastructure (electrical systems, communications systems, petroleum refineries, transportation networks, etc.), by specialized terrorist cells (trained in explosive and chemical operations), and that big bugaboo—CYBER systems. But the internet and news media are left untouched, as the terrorists want their “message” to get out and be seen in order to demoralize Americans; but they guessed wrong on that.

The Operation Payback/Retribution by determined and thoroughly pissed-off Americans that is visited by upon those who planned, aided, abetted, and those who had given tacit approval and encouragement, is “Biblical Old School”; Ancient Roman vengeance retribution; “Carthago delenda est” annihilation. Deservedly so too, considering the casualties numbered over 172,000, more than the total number of casualties (combat and non-combat) suffered by the USA in the Great War/WW1. The Nuremberg Trials were kids’ play compared to the expediently summary courts martial justice meted out. And lots of newly-created glass parking lots in a certain troublesome MidEast country, which resulted in a “regime change”.

Additionally, “crisis management” forced a 25th Amendment constitutionally-followed “regime change” to occur in WashDC, and within the blatantly political governing bureaucracy; which was a “good thing” in the long term. What’s that saying about “greatness being thrust upon a person”?

A Solid Work

Frighteningly plausible. Certainly the enemy could well infiltrate our porous borders and launch this sort of mass attack. The book is thoroughly readable, especially given the rapid turn-around

A fictional presentation of a pretty frightening scenario. Unfortunately, all the elements appear to be in place for just such an attack.

This is an interesting departure for Kurt Schlichter. His previous eight fiction books have all been part of his Kelly Turnbull/People's Republic series. They are good mil-fic thrillers with a considerable dose of his delightfully snarky political humor. But these near-future stories sometimes labor under the weight of recent events that were unanticipated (covid) or turned out differently from what the books expected (Trump beat Hillary).

“The Attack” is a clean break and is much different stylistically. It is structured as a collection of interviews, similar to Studs Terkel’s histories, with some elements of a roman à clef. There is a wide-ranging central story being told, that of a massive multi-day terrorist attack across the US, but it is told from the perspectives of 40 characters, rather than as a traditional chronological narrative. The story is so sprawling that it would have been unrealistic for a few central characters to have directly experienced so much.

Some of the characters, mostly on the political center and right, would have fit well into a conventional narrative and are similar to those in the Kelly Turnbull series. One of the most interesting things about this book is that the interview format enables a more detailed look at some left-wing characters. In the Kelly Turnbull series, these unappealing people are not given a lot of space and, as a result often come across as cartoonish stereotypes. In this book, all the characters get roughly the same amount of space, so the pathology of left-of-center characters can be examined in more depth.

There is a big and important story being told in this book about America’s vulnerability to the kind of asymmetrical warfare that Hamas launched on Israel. This book does a good job of doing so in a very accessible manner, including plenty of Schlichter’s sly humor. I could pick a few nits with it, mainly about whether those on the center and left would acquiesce in the strong rightward reaction to the attack depicted in the book (they have forgotten and excused 9/11), but that is really a speculative quibble that can’t be verified one way or the other. The book has an important and timely message and I highly recommend reading it.

I do not read political manifesto's pretending to be novels.
Firstly this book is a wet dream for a right wing, pro Trump Republican author , he claims to have written the book in days, perhaps AI did!
It is supposedly set 5 years after a massive terrorist attack on the US set with a series of interviews/political points.
The author blames mass immigration, the Arabs, weak democratic president, is so pro Israel surprised not a full time employee of the IDF press office. Then praises strong and resilient Republican President (guess who!) for revenge. There are numerous comparisons withe current Israeli /Palestinian war and not a iota of of moderation or objectivity.
I am amazed that this is on Kindle unlimited, this seems to be just a wish list for the extreme far right.
It is a charade of a novel and appallingly written.

absolutely possible

Living close to Portland, OR and seeing what Antifa and their commie brothers and sisters did let we hard working folks know that they want us dead. Add in their fellow Islamic believers and it’s a powder keg aimed at our modest way of life.

Eye Opening

This book is well written and engaging. However, it is profoundly disturbing because of its potential for occurring. It is an absolute must read to understand our world today and how to do our best to personally prepare for such evil.

wake up people

The author does a remarkably fine job with the oral history format - it reminds me of Studs Terkel and Max Brooks. This is a different read than Schlichter’s action/satire books about a fictional civil war within the US. It feels as though he felt compelled to issue a warning about the possibilities and the consequences of complacency. As far as writing goes, I found the dialog and the voice of each interviewee to be remarkably authentic, and demonstrates far more talent than I gave Schlichter credit for. My position and experience in life have compelled me to be more “prepared” than most other people, and this book has hardened my resolve to prepare even more. If that was Mr. Schlichter’s intent then I’d say he succeeded. I hope this scenario never comes to pass.

Not a bad book. I liked it a lot better than Kurt's other "Kelly Trunbull" novels, and had a definate "World War Z" vibe to it.

I'd have rated it higher, except it scared me way too much IRL.

Harrowing. Not a pleasant read by any means but in many ways a necessary one. Well written and tragically plausible, it does posit a possibly more optimistic (I use this term very loosely as the story is one of the worst sorts of terrorism) conclusion than I can say I truly believe our citizens and leadership has in them - but I prefer that to a hopeless ending. However, it is also clear the author knows that there will always be those who deny - or quickly forget - the victims and the sufferings and will continue to push against protecting one self and recognizing one’s enemies. Anywho, time for me to go do something fun and relieve my mind as this was a fast, memorable and nightmarish book that could be simply the omen of what happens next month. Praise God and a security beyond the human realm!

“America inspires fear when it is struck and lashes out. But that fear fades and Americans then fall back into their old ways. It’s a cycle.”

The survivors of a horrendous terrorist attack upon our country tell their stories in this all too possible (possibly probable) fiction. This warning should be required reading, but even if it were I am certain there would still be those who would deny what is happening right now in front of their faces, making excuses for the unspeakable acts of the terrorists.

The main thing to understand about ‘The Attack’ is that it is based on the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7th, 2023 and ‘The Attack’ was published on January 8th, 2024. Considering Thanksgiving and Christmas are in the middle, he put together a book and had it written and published in about three months. You can tell it was rushed to print while the event was still fresh when you are reading it.

Despite giving the book 5 stars to annoy liberals, it is a pretty silly story. The basic premise is a massive Islamic terror attack on America that takes place over three days and involves around 10,000 Muslim terrorists that infiltrated the U.S. via the wide open southern border. It leaves behind over 100,000 U.S. casualties and the book is written from the perspective of people being interviewed about the events years after the event, in a sort of “World War Z” style (I didn’t really care for ‘World War Z’ to be honest).

Kurt is what I would classify as a normiecon, people that have a conservative to libertarian political framework that is still mostly stuck in the 1980s and have never really caught up with political reality. He is still pretty rah-rah ‘Murica and thinks that most Americans are still the same sort of people that lived here last century. Normiecons like Kurt still think that Israel is our friend and ally in the Middle East while at the same time Israel does more to influence and corrupt our elections and political system than every other country on Earth combined. That comes across in the book as well.

Most of the writing is normiecon conservative talking points very loosely crammed into various narratives. It generally doesn’t work because pretty much every person being “interviewed” is in the same voice. Kurt occasionally throws in a phrase that is intended to sound like the person described but then goes right back into heroic, patriotic Americans saying the same thing in the same way, over and over.

Is Joe Biden a doddering old fool that should be in a retirement home rather than running the U.S.? Of course he is. Is Kamala Harris a flat out moron, unqualified for any government job more important that collecting tolls on the Jersey Turnpike, someone who literally slept her way into politics? Most definitely. Is Mike Johnson, the current Speaker of the House, the noble and selfless public servant he is made out to be, even though he isn’t named? Hell no. Pretty much every fictional character interviewed says the same things about Kamala and the southern border and the book itself is basically conservative revenge porn where everything people like Kurt have been warning about happens and everything he thinks would fix America happens in response.

The bad guys are cartoonish. Kurt mentions rape at least 30 times, both in the terror attack on America and in Israel even though those reports turned out to be wildly exaggerated, like the baby in the oven thing. He brings up the “72 virgins” for martyrs at least a dozen times. Don’t get me wrong, Hamas are animals, some of the worst people every to walk the earth, but then again Israel has also killed something like ten times as many Palestinian civilians as Israelis were killed on October 7th, using weapons provided by the good ol’ U. S. of A. There are no good guys in that conflict. It’s a poorly written, damnably silly story.

There are positives. Kurt brings up some very interesting questions and a more thoughtful treatment of the subject could have made for a really great story, instead of a story slapped together and rushed out in three months while people still remembered October 7th. The fact remains that America’s border is wide open but the real threat isn’t an army of 10,000 Islamic terrorists but the tens of millions of mestizo illegal aliens who are living here, absorbing billions in social services, education, medical care, etc and procreating a new “American” populace. Our infrastructure is terribly vulnerable. Half of the country hates the other half and the first half is made up of a bunch of people that hate each other, just a little less than they hate normal Americans. With a more skilled writer and a less rushed story, ‘The Attack’ could have been great.

Terrific book. A warning for America.

Colonel Schlichter did a great job with this book. It’s a warning to us of what an open border, a weak foreign policy and unqualified leadership can do for us. Humorous in a few places, but I also shed some tears several times. Prepare your family, vote for competent people and pray for God’s protection for our country. Don’t forget to do as Kurt says, “Buy guns and ammo.”

Only negative nitpick I have is that sometimes he uses present and past tense in the same paragraph. It could have used one more go with a proofreader.

Overall, a well thought out story of what could happen because of our country’s bad decisions. Send a copy to your representatives, maybe they’ll learn something. Well worth the time to read it. Will read it again.

Schlichter claims to have written this is a couple weeks. My view is that he should have written less and better streamlined the whole. He certainly explores the very details of the idea of a violent invasion of the U.S. from all angles. I don't care for this kind of fiction. I have read all of the William Johnstone version and a few others. This is the best of them as Schlichter cuts very deep and creates a scenario that has already come true. Will it continue. Schlichter has certainly given a path way for the bad guys to follow.

There's no real plot in all this. This is all looking over the shoulder stuff. Basically the happenings are gone over and over and over again. Just from different angles. Literally, all angles are presented from the bad guys, to the pawns, to those who thought one way and changed views to those who saw all this coming. All of this is written well. Just a bit to excess. I see where this could've been trimmed about 40 pages and had a stronger book.

I saw a couple reviews angry at the political outlook. I guess certain people might find that. I read fiction books and look for stories. More contemporary books often scream political views. Those views might not follow mine, but it's the story that counts. Schlichter accomplishes that here. I'd be curious how those who are upset of how Schlichter has written this, how they would?

Bottom line: I recommend this book. 7 out of ten points.

Thoughtful, measured, and realistic. A true warning to us all.

A measured “imagined history” of what may happen if we do not close our borders and sift the illegal immigrants for terrorists and criminal elements. Well-written and compelling. For what could have been jingoistic and cringe-worthy, Schlichter strikes a matter-of-fact perspective among the diverse character voices he creates to tell the story, and as a result ends up telling a story that is both believable and compelling. Well done Soldier!

Nothing written in this book is improbable. I hope none of it ever comes to pass but who knows? Maybe the result of the 2024 election was enough but who knows given the numbers?
I saw that other reviewers have said that the book is a far right wet dream. I’m a centrist. I see the world taking dangerous paths. I pray we never see anything like this, on this scale.
We have seen events like this across Europe but I hope I never look back and see this book as prophetic.
How I wish we could go back to sanity.

His Best One Yet

I am a ludicrous fan of the PR books, but this is not one of them. It is, by far, my favorite novel of his. As someone who works in a relevant profession, this almost 100% exact scenario has been my worst nightmare going on a decade now. I’m glad a better man could put it to paper than I, because I had no idea how to communicate it effectively. When people ask, I’ll just send them a link and say “this.”

Written after the October 7, 2023 horror in Israel by Hamas, the author tells what could happen just before the 2024 election if our country continues to ignore the threat inside our country. Seen through the eyes of an interviewer, the book tells the stories of various individuals who were either impacted directly by The Attack or who were involved in the aftermath. Sometimes not an easy read, but very believable and prescient. Highly recommended

Go back to your style of writing with Kelly Turnbull

Did not enjoy the repetitive scenarios. Was boring after the first four or five...struggled to finish the book. I purchased, read and enjoyed all your Kelly books and encourage you to return to that format and style. Respectfully.

And how many illegal aliens that we know nothing about are entering our country every day? How many Chinese men of military age?
Hopefully, this book is about something that will never happen. Every day the probability that it will happen becomes higher.

Not sure, but it feels like some one in intel dumped the files from Oct 7 on Kurt's desk and said make a believable novel about how the Hamas Massacre could be pulled off in the US.

From my experience working with mass shooter defense training groups, the actions carried out, make sense, as does the triple layer of attacks.

Thankfully our nation is largely open and free. This makes it easy for butchers like Hamas. Americans are largely not prepared mentally for the speed, and viciousness of these terrorists. Further, so many have placed their 'defense' into the hands of LE who will never arrive because they are first targeted, or they are overwhelmed.

Until recently, it would be difficult to claim this type of attack to be 'reasonable'. Let's face it the 'bodies' needed to carry something like off just weren't here. The Biden Administration has imported over 12 million illegals. Millions of fighting age men, single men.

We now have a 'force' to be reckoned with. The way the attack(s) are carried out are completely plausible. The best reason to read the book is to get your head around how this could be pulled off, and how are you positioned to recognize various threats, react, and survive them, along with family and loved ones.

You get a taste of the tactics of this crowd, I hope it allows you to get mentally tough so if confronted you'll know what you need to do.

Explores a timeline in which terrorists strike the US with such brutality, that he world, especially the US, must change its notions surrounding security and defense in an extreme way after extreme circumstances.

The idea and concept is interesting in of itself. Written in a style of interviews post-terror event. Obviously a reaction to current events in reality.

One criticism is character voice. The characters are written in first person, the style of an interviewed subject, throughout. While their experiences and personal opinions differ greatly from interview to interview, they all "speak" like Kurt Schlichter. They do not feel like people who lived real lives; rather like cardboard cut-outs with previous experiences foisted onto them.

Maybe related, it simply gets boring. Not a page-turner; you lose interest after a while. Especially as the book goes on, there is not much new information to be learned about "The Attack." Most is discussed early on. It becomes difficult to read the writers' voice with different names after 150 pages.

This is the first Kurt Schlichter book I have read, so not exposed to his fiction series. I may give it a try in the future. I understand also that this book was written in a very short period of time. I can only really recommend this book if you are already a fan of Schlicter's work. Otherwise, even if your politics leans towards right-wing, I can't really recommend you buy.

Great storyline. Worth 5/5 for underlying creative scenario and concept of "interviews" with disparate people with different point of view. Well written, though deduct 1/2 point for repetition - too many duplicate stories which did not add to the overall story - and deduct further 1/2 point for author being a one eyed MAGA, right wing, NRA supporter who made all the characters have same perspective.

There are some logic errors -like recruiting 10,000 suicide bombers without raising 1,000 alarms and then infiltrating them into USA and keeping them invisible for extended period. Author also displays lack of knowledge of what terrorists set out to achieve and how they would carry out an attack.
Should have had story reviewed by someone who was on the ground on Oct 7 2023 - if aim is to kill as many as possible as quickly as possible you do not spend hours dismembering bodies, raping children, torturing etc. Especially when there are unlimited number of additional victims available in every other house.

Compelling novel of a massive, well planned and horribly murderous terrorist attack on the US is one that will awaken the reader to the dangers of complacency of “ It Can’t Happen Here”.

The author use the format of “ real voices” telling an interviewer what they experienced during the three day assault on the US- at their homes, workplaces, hospitals and schools. The survivors’ are all different but similar as people witness neighbors slaughtered, malls bombed, airliners rocked from the skies. Think of the “ War of the World” scenarios of an attack by aliens, but these aliens are not from Mras , not zombies but from those who have a ideology of hatred that rewards murder .The book is hard to read because it is so realistic, and hard to put down in its intensity. “ The Attack” is well written , scary, inspiring and insightful.
An eye- opening and thoughtful novel of what might happen tomorrow right here.
