Harley Breed thought he knew who his family were. But when a long-held secret comes to light, his world gets turned upside down–and he loses the only girl he’s ever loved.
Fuelled by fury at his situation, he takes up MMA fighting as a way of channelling his aggression. At his first official fight, a shadow from his recent past shows up, seeking refuge from her abusive ex. Despite the feeling that there’s more to her story than she claims, Harley knows he wants to help her again.
Lily Adams is on the run. After a brush with death at the hands of her violent fiancé, she winds up in Blue Haven, seeking the stranger who’s already saved her life once.
As their lives become entangled, it’s only a matter of time before one… or both… fall. But what happens when Lily’s past, and her secrets, finally catch up with them?
** Please note that this story does include darker themes of domestic violence, organised crime, graphic MMA fight scenes, and mental health. Please be careful when choosing to read this book.

4⭐️Again with the feels. There’s so much depth to this series and the complexity of their dynamics and interweaving plots is amazing.
Great characters, it was really awesome to see all of them come together for this final story in the series.
Spice was great. I love the ladder element. It’s one of my favourite things. But I was low key rooting for a MFM element with the brothers I’m not gonna lie.
Harley has had it rough and when secrets from the past get uncovered he isn't even sure if he knows who his family is anymore. He takes some time away to try clear his mind and when that doesn't work and he returns to attend BHU he turns to MMA fighting as a way to get his release. Lily is escaping her horrible life, she's packed a bag jumped on a bus and found herself in Blue Haven the small beach town that has the boy who saved her once in it somewhere. Coming together they both try get through trauma to make a fresh life but the past has a way of coming back to bite.
This would definitely have to be the darkest of the BHU series so far, JL Skye has done a fantastic job at mixing in very hard hitting traumatic experiences for her characters with finding family, joy and hope. She manages to write traumatic things in a way that doesn't undermine them and gives them the respect they deserve whilst simultaneously keeping things engaging and varied enough that you want to read through it all.
This was the final book in the BHU series and while I'm sad it's over I absolutely loved the ending and the resolutions. The final chapter even involved all the characters from the prior books so we get to see everyone in this found family come together. My final thoughts are eead it and read it now along with the other books then head over and start the Forever Summer series too, you won't regret it.
This book contains quite a few dark themes, vivid fight scenes and many triggers so check out the content warnings before starting.
I’m not going to lie, writing this review has taken me days, it’s not something I still feel does this book justice without spoiling the book or the series.
I fell in love with Wild hearts early last year, and have read before you, sparks fly and now chasing shadows. All 4 of these books I have felt so emerged into the blue haven universe, I’ve felt like all the characters were people I knew and that honestly comes down to @jlskye_author writing and just goes to show how much of an amazing author she really is.
Chasing Shadows was the book I never knew I needed in my life until I read it and I honestly cried during the epilogue.
This series is honestly heartbreaking and amazing all in one and i highly recommend it to anyone and everyone!
Jennah thank you for the amazing journey of Blue Haven University ♥️
I don’t even know where to start with this review… I loved every moment of this book but I am also so gutted this series has now ended! I loved the darker side of this one compared to the others… but it had me on the edge of my seat wanting to know where this story was going! And that prologue, I was glued straight away! Lily and Harley have been through so many struggles and heartache and become each others anchor and rock! But that epilogue… I had tears running down my cheeks, it was the perfect ending to a perfect series! I have become thoroughly obsessed with this series, every book is a roller coaster of emotions and will have you wanting to read them all ASAP!
J.L. Skye you’re a freaking gem! Thank you so much for writing BHU and giving me a series I never knew I needed! You’re an amazing author who got me hooked from Wild Hearts and I cannot wait for your next series!
Harley's world has been blown apart by an explosive secret.
His entire life has changed. His friends, his family, his girlfriend - it was all twisted and he doesn't know which way is up.
When he surfaced he finds himself in Sydney, and a strange meeting sets the scene for a dark thriller to round out the Blue Haven University series as he heads home to face the music.
What he isnt expecting is a dark shadow to follow him home, and bring danger to their lives.
Loved this story, Harley really deserves so much happiness and instead he has to go through SO MUCH, and the story is written in such a fabulous way that I even loved his rock bottom moments.
The BHU crew now live rent free in my head, and enjoy a prime position on the trophy shelf where they belong!
Well damnnnnn!!! Mafia princess meets MMA fighter and it gets hot. After saving lily’s life while in Sydney running away from his problems, Harley can’t forget her. Returning to Blue Haven, Harley’s life is turned upside down and he is introduced to fighting as a way to work through his anger. Lily who is running away from an abuse arranged engagement finds herself in blue haven looking for the man that saved het life. Two worlds collide and while this is a slow burn that will have you waiting impatiently for the moment they stop fighting their feelings, and start acting on them, truths come out which could tear these two apart Highly recommend
This is the 4th novel in the BFU series, and I really enjoyed this book. It has everything you could want. Spice, suspense, a good character growth. The only downfall is that it is the last book in this series and I don’t want them to end.
I had been holding out for Harley’s story after the end of the last BHU novel, and I was expecting some drama, but boy did this deliver all that and more! Organised crime, underground fight clubs, kidney transplants, genital piercings - these are not your average 21 year olds living the small town life, that’s for sure! A quick and easy read, not your average romance novel.
