Many years ago, reclusive millionaire Wentworth Stone retreated from the world, seemingly unable to get over the death of his wife. Nobody has heard from him since... until the day he asks for help from Sobolton veterinarian Lisa Sondnes.
Heading out to Stone's remote home, Lisa discovers a flock of sick and diseased swans. Stone insists that his prized collection must be saved, but the more she tries to treat the birds, the more Lisa starts to wonder whether they might be hiding a strange secret. When she discovers a hidden cave on Stone's property, she soon realizes that her worst fears are about to come true.
Meanwhile, John investigates a mystery of his own, one that's clearly linked to a tragedy that occurred many years ago. Wentworth Stone's crumbling mansion hides a second secret, one that threatens to burst back into the world just as a ghostly little girl makes her second appearance. With pressure mounting, can John get any closer to discovering who killed the girl in the ice?
Swan Territory is the second book in the Horrors of Sobolton series, which tells the story of one small town's struggle to deal with the paranormal monstrosities on its doorstep. Each book tells a standalone story, but there are cliffhangers and readers are recommended to go through the series in order.
Amy Cross writes novels and short stories in a number of genres, mainly horror, paranormal and fantasy. Books include The Farm, Annie's Room, The Island, Eli's Town and Asylum.
The small town of Sobolton is a place straight out of an episode of "The Twighlight Zone". This is an amazing series of the high quality stories, encompassing sci-fi, horror, mystical folk lore and the supernatural. The style of writing is very different from the normal Amy Cross stories and I suspect that another author is writing under her banner. That said, this is an addictive series and one I highly recommend.
Struggling through the snow, Lisa finally reached her car and fumbled in her pockets for her keys. She was a little out of breath, and as she tried to find the right key she repeatedly looked over her shoulder to make sure that there was no sign of Wentworth Stone. As far as she knew, he was still trapped in one of the mansion house's downstairs rooms, although she figured that he'd find a way out sooner rather than later.
First was a great book. This was nothing but filler to get to the next. Annoying amy cross back and forth thru time stuff. She does this very very often in her books. On top of that people are stumbling along making mistakes and zero common sense to help the narrative move. Oh and of course…cell service is a problem…how’s about taking pictures with your phone? Don’t need service for that.
Well Sobolton just gets weirder and weirder. The Sheriff seems to catch and then rationalise things, the characters are quite sneaky and quite nasty with the new Sheriff, the old one is certainly corrupt. Looking forward to the next instalment!
The first story was about werewolves, now we have a Frankenstein-type story. Sounds like Lisa is still going strong for at least a third one. Poor John is in over his head. I'm sure he'll get things figured out eventually.
Just when I think That I have read about everything Then I took up any process Then I took up again Amy Crawford books again Thank you Miss cross Reminding me There is always something new Under the sun Now on to book 3
This book is a good read, but it was confusing. Just when I would understand what was going on, it went back to another time in the past. It really could have been two books. I had a difficult time to tie the two together.
Better than the first book, corrupt ex sheriff, interesting characters and strange supernatural goings-on. Addictive series, definitely not a standalone.
