Quiet Hints for Growing Preachers

Rate this book
In 1898 Charles Edward Jefferson became the pastor of the Broadway Tabernacle in Brooklyn, New York. He stayed as pastor for 33 years of fruitful ministry. Thousands of people packed the sanctuary every Sunday to hear him preach.

In Quiet Hints to Growing Preachers, Jefferson discusses the nuts of bolts of pastoral ministry in pithy language. This is a book about ministerial deportment, an old-fashioned word that refers to how a man carries himself, how he presents himself, his manners, his bearing, his habits, and his whole approach to life. You’ll learn things here they don’t teach in seminary. Though he wrote over a century ago, Jefferson’s advice to pastors is timeless.

The cover is deceiving, the book was written about an hundred years ago. Don’t let that stop you from getting though. This was timeless & practical for our day. The chapters were easy reads, short & to the point without seeming empty & rushed. Apparently the author was quite successful but you won’t hear it from him. This is humbly written with a mind to help the man laboring in the pulpit & ministering to his people. From a pastor to a pastor. Worth the read & I’m looking into his other books & lectures.

This book was given to me as a gift from my pastor as he mentored me. He made it his habit to read this brief book once every year to keep the advice fresh. I'm very thankful for the gift as the quiet hints it contains are true and timeless.

Would recommend this book for anyone who desires a look into the heart of a man of God. Would especially recommend it for anyone who desires the office of a bishop or wants to speak for God.
