💜 Marriage of convenience 💜 Best friend's brother 💜 He falls first 💜 Found family
I love it when the main characters are complete opposites but complement each other, and this is one of those cases.
Rowan has always loved Claire, and after 9 years without seeing each other, she returns to their hometown and needs a place to stay, which ends up being Rowan's house. When she needs health insurance, he promptly offers to marry her. He just needs to remember that the marriage is purely for convenience...
I loved how their story unfolded and how proximity made Claire see their relationship in a different light.
Claire is the type of female main character I adore—strong and independent. Rowan... he's a male main character you want to hug. He's protective, caring, and passionate. He has his own issues, but I enjoyed the character growth throughout the story.
I received an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review, but all opinions are my own.
I liked the marriage of convenience and the forced proximity. Seeing their relationship bloom was enjoyable!
I enjoyed Rowan’s character and his family. I liked their togetherness and loyalty to each other. Rowan is sweet and gentle while Claire is vibrant and outgoing.
This had just the right amount of drama to add to the romance. I liked it!
I do love a good introvert love interest and Rowan was that man for me. Filled with the right amount of grumpiness and protectiveness and a good dose of that’s my wife and that’s what I hope for when I pick up a marriage of convenience book.
There were a lot of little aspects that added up to the bigger story. Sometimes these felt forced rather than a natural inclusion to the progression of the plot, nonetheless, I did like seeing Rowan and Claire have opportunities to be closer together and realize the feelings they had for one another.
I thought there were some plot holes involving the reasoning behind the MOC. It was briefly explained why, and then never really discussed again?
Rowan was easily my favorite of the whole book. I love the way he loved Claire. There were some great themes of mental health and anxiety. And I liked the discussions surrounding anger control too. All of the hiking content was fun and the book is easy to fly through if you’re in need of something closed door, and quick.
Overall audience notes: - Contemporary Romance - Language: none-low - Romance: closed door - Violence: low - Trigger/Content Warnings: mentions of a Dad with anger issues, celiac disease, loss of a grandmother
This book pretty much had me at best friend's brother + marriage of convenience. I love seeing both of those tropes, and add in the fact the heroine was older than the hero and I needed to know how it all unfolded. There were so many poignant moments and so many moments that made me keep reading. This was just the book I needed.
This was such a sweet, heartwarming story! It is the first book that I have read by this author and I look forward to reading more.
I listened to the audio version and as I have been listening to dual narration a lot, I had to get used to hearing only one narrator doing both characters. However, the narrator did a good job and I enjoyed the listen.
I thought that the author did a great job with capturing the way Claire began to see Rowan in a different way and recognize that she was actually attracted to him. Rowan was amazing! It tugged at my heart to realize how much he had always loved Claire and the way he would pretty much do anything for her because of how much she meant to him.
I loved the way their relationship progressed throughout the story. They both carried different types of baggage and Claire, especially, had a lot to work through emotionally before she could handle trusting that she was worthy of love.
I also loved all of the details about Tucson. I lived in Tucson for six years and the memories from there are some of my favorite. Reading about all of the various locations was a trip down memory lane for me, too.
Thank you @lauralangawrites for the ARC! 💕 this was my first book by her and now I definitely have to go back for more! This is book 3 in the Love Tucson series, but can be read as a standalone.
Rowan, Rowan, Rowan…. He’s hot, would drop everything for you in a heartbeat, and make sure you’re taken care of 💕I loved the dual POV, the chemistry between them, and their growth as a person and together as a couple. I kept waiting for one of them to break and confess their feelings early in the book!
About: Claire is a free spirit that travels around the world. What was supposed to be a quick trip back home to visit her best friend had turned into staying longer when her health took a toll. She ends up staying with her best friend’s younger brother Rowan, who she grew up with. Since she’s always on the go and is usually in tip top shape, her trip to the ER led to some medical debt and was unsure how to cover the next test she needed. Rowan decides to propose to her because the family business’s insurance is the best and would help Claire out immensely. What started out as a marriage of convenience turned out to be something more 💕
Rating: 5/5 ⭐️
Highly recommend if you enjoy: 💜marriage of convenience 💜best friend’s brother 💜opposites attract 💜forced proximity
aaaaahhhh this book was so sweet! i really loved watching the characters learn about each other & it was fun to read about rowan being a therapist! the epilogue was one of the sweetest epilogues i’ve ever read 🥹
ARC Review. An Unexpected Roomie by Laura Langa ripped my heart out (in a good way). I absolutely adored the Bellamy family and the love they gave. The dynamic between Claire and Rowan; I needed more! Rowan’s love for Claire and patience was just what she needed. I absolutely loved reading An Unexpected Roomie. Also, I loved the goat’s names.
Travel infuencer, Claire, is back in Arizona and needing a place to stay for a bit. Luckily, her best friend Meg knows just the place… her brother Rowan's house… the same brother that confessed an 'I love you' to Claire 9 years earlier. 🥲
Claire and Rowan couldn’t be more opposite and it works so well for them. While Claire tries to get Rowan to have more fun with her ‘fun pact’, Rowan is there to keep her grounded with patience and comfort.
This is the third book in the Love Tucson series. Rowan has been in love with his sister's best friend, Claire, since he was a teenager. He's tried to forget her, but he just can't. She's always in the back of his mind, even when she doesn't live in Tucson. Claire comes home, and she needs a place to stay. Her best friend, Meg, will be traveling, so she suggests that Claire stay with Rowan.
As soon as Rowan sees Claire, all of the feelings come rushing back, and Claire might be feeling something too. When she has a medical scare, Rowan suggests that they get married so she can go on his health insurance. They marry in secret, and they agree to spend time together by creating a fun pact- they will go out 2 nights a week and try new things. They have so much fun together, and it starts to feel real for both of them.
There's no third act breakup, and I enjoyed how their love story developed throughout the book.
Thanks to the author, Laura Langa, for an ARC of this book.
Oh my goodness! This was precious! I can’t think of a better word! I absolutely loved Rowan and Claire’s story! I love how they both had their baggage they had to work through. I loved how their character developed as they grew with each other! I loved the opposites attract….he steadied her while she got him out of his shell. I will always love a marriage of convenience trope no matter how “unrealistic” people say it is….it’s why we read FICTION, people!🤣 The family dynamic with the Bellamy’s was so sweet. And that epilogue made me melt! This is a fade to black, sweet romance…I’d definitely recommend it!
This is my first book from the Author and can I just say, I was left very impressed and wanting to read more of her books! Let’s dive into this review shall we!
Now, I must start off with saying that I am a total mood reader. I don’t know why I am the way that I am but I just am. And when I first started this book it took me a little bit to get sucked in. It had nothing to do with the book and everything to do with my brain. Now I say that to also say that once I reached the 15% mark, I. Was. Hooked.
This book is a dual pov and the author nailed the different characters and their voices perfectly! I could tell who I was reading without having to see a character’s name at the beginning of the chapter. Their chemistry was on fire! And I truly enjoyed the personal character growths for each Rowan & Claire.
I never have read a Marriage Of Convenience story like before and let me just tell you guys, when I read the “Get your hands off my wife!” Like, I squealed. I get it! I so understand the hype and will now be loving this trope. I need more.
It’s like fake dating but marriage and I’m here for it. Especially when the couple ends up just loving the married life and falls in love hehe. Even better when there isn’t a 3rd act breakup 💁🏼♀️🥰 I loved this book! Once I got over my reading funk and dove into the story I not only loved the romances, but I fell for the friends and family mentioned in this book.
I felt like both Rowan & Claire had a unique storyline, powerful voices, and such enticing energy. I truly enjoyed the journey this book took me on. And I already have her other 2 books in this series downloaded on my Kindle and ready to devour.
A solid 4 stars from me and I will be recommending her books to all my booksta besties! Read this book if you love:
💍 Best Friend’s Brother 🥾 Childhood Friends 💍 Outdoorsy Couple 🥾 Marriage of convenance 💍 Care Taker 🥾 Bobcat ? 💍 Fun Dates/Pack 🥾 He falls First 💍 Healing
This is my first book by Laura, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. Well, it was absolutely wonderful and had me hooked from beginning to end.
It had everything in it that I want in a romance — great chemistry between the MCs, closed door with lots of swoony moments, story and characters with depth, some great humor, excellent writing and pacing.
What I loved: 🌵 Age gap - she’s 4 years older 🌵 Best friend’s brother 🌵 Marriage of convenience 🌵 Forced proximity 🌵 Fun Pact Adventures 🌵 Yellow sticky notes 🌵 Beauty of Arizona desert 🌵 ‘My love’ 🌵 ‘I can’t not love you’ 🌵 Both MCs a bit broken 🌵 FMC growth arc 🌵 HEA
This is book 3 in the Love Tucson Series, but can be read as a standalone. Highly recommended.
Really fun, warm, and fantastic chemistry. The whole Bellamy family were very lovable and the setup for the story was great. I appreciated Claire's emotional mess but also her independent streak and outdoorsy nature. It was refreshing. Rowan was swoon-worthy with some inner struggles. My only criticism would be that this couple needed a proper fight! Given their different backgrounds, it was a bit too easy for them to find marital bliss. A very enjoyable read though.
There were so many details to these characters that could’ve created such a deep story, but the character flaws were diminished so it was hard to see any character growth. In addition, the romance felt SUPER one sided to me and just not that believable overall.
Cozy book to read on a rainy afternoon with a cup of coffee. It has fun characters and it’s fast paced. Really enjoy a book I can enjoy and get cozy with.
🤍 Thank you @lauralangawrites for the e-arc of An Unexpected Roomie! 🤍
Rowan has been battling feelings for his sister’s best friend Claire for a long time. He thinks he has a handle on things until they find themselves under one roof…
Claire is a free-spirit. She doesn’t take no for an answer and lives life full-steam ahead. Rowan is quiet, content to live his life in the safety of his home and close circle.
As they navigate a situation that seems to get more complex with each page, their chemistry becomes even more undeniable. It sizzled and I loved watching it happen.
I’m also a huge fan of books that have strong friendships! It’s the best.
If you love: • marriage of convenience • grumpy x sunshine • best friend’s brother • forced proximity • sizzling kisses
★ ★ ★ ★/5 Out February 1st Steam: kissing TW: past parent abuse, anger issues, medical problems
I throughly enjoyed this book! This is the second book I’ve read by Laura Langa and I wasn’t disappointed.
Forced marriage to her best friends brother…who is also younger and extremely sexy ;) It has a closed door romance so if you’re looking for spice, not the book for you. It was a comfort read with a happy ending.
Meg is such an awesome supporting character that I throughly enjoyed reading the chapters with her in it.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is book 3 in the Love Tuscon Series and can be read as a standalone. The book's blurb lets you know what to expect. An Unexpected Roomie is told through Claire and Rowan's pov and is a story about two individuals finding love and perfectly balancing each other out.
For years, Claire has been traveling and not staying in one particular place for too long. She loves the adventure of it all but a part of her has also used it as a coping mechanism - to run away from her fears. When her health makes her put a pause in her travels and she's reunited with Rowan, her best friend's brother, she's got more to think about than what her career as a traveling influencer will look like. Ever since Claire set off on her travels and left Rowan with a broken heart, he's been doing his best to keep his feelings under control. As a therapist, he wants to help others handle their emotions in a positive way and, though taxing at times, it's beneficial to him too. When he learns of Claire's situation, he isn't sure how he'll handle being around her but he doesn't hesitate to propose a marriage of convenience to offer her a solution to her problems.
Because of the way that things were left between them and the fact that they both had issues to work through, their romance was a slow burn. Both of their reservations and hurts were ones that made the pacing of their romantic relationship feel natural. Their shared past allowed them to fall back easily into friendship, even when they wanted to keep a distance. However, the wait for them to acknowledge their feelings to each other was worth it. Their romance is a closed door one consisting of steamy kissing with build up to fade to black and no cursing was used. Besides the romance, I loved the friendships they each had and it was nice to see some familiar characters. I also loved the representation of mental and physical health. The descriptive writing was nice too and I could picture the scenery the author was describing. Overall, Claire and Rowan's story was a great installment to the series and I can't wait for the next book.
tropes: 🎀 marriage of convenience 🎀 best friends brother 🎀 he falls first 🎀 forced proximity 🎀 NO 3RD ACT BREAKUP 🎀 friends to lovers 🎀 opposites attract
now onto the review! okay so first of all i just wanted to say a big thank you to laura for trusting me with her book and giving me the opportunity to read the arc. this book is so wholesome and i love the way mental health and the characters struggles are represented. i'm completely and utterly in love with rowan, love how he cared so deeply for claire and how he never gave up on her. about claire, i can relate and see myself so much in her and in her struggles to trust others, so that makes me love her even more, i truly get her, she's my baby💗 meg is also the cutest little bean and i love how she masterminded our main couple together. i love the fact that there is no 3rd act breakup, because that's something i usually despise in books. overall this book was such an amazing good read and i had such a good experience reading it, so once this comes out everyone better read it!!
quotes: - "it was unfair how well claire knew him... how well he knew her." - "everything about claire was lightning-bright and beautiful with the power to awe." - "claire made the world better just by existing. she had to be okay" - "rowan's kiss had been the best of her life" - "something about restrained rowan losing his mind over the idea of her being harmed was more alluring than a pillow-top mattress after a week of sleeping on the ground" - "get your hands off my wife" - "when the trap door opened, rowan recognize the sensation instantly. it was an exact duplicate of what it felt like to fall in love with claire winesett." - "rowan ignore it all and kissed his wife in the rain" - "i think we're constantly changing. no person is exactly who they were the day before. life fluctuates, and we shift ourselves to accommodate it."
“For those who think they aren’t enough, You ARE enough. Whoever told you that you weren’t was wrong- even if that person was you.”
Claire Winesett never expected to be sleeping on her best friend’s brother’s couch. But the last nine years as a solo-travel influencer has been anything but predictable. It’s a good thing that Claire thrives on spontaneity, and after all, it’s only going to be temporary.
Boundaries define every aspect of Rowan Bellamy’s life, and having his teenage crush under his roof is disrupting his routines in more ways than one. Especially now that Claire seems to be seeing him as more than the boy she left behind—the chemistry between them is strong.
When an unexpected scary trip to the ER leads Claire on a path to crushing medical debt, Rowan shocks her with an unexpected proposal. But Claire can’t accept a paper-only marriage to gain Rowan’s health insurance without offering something in return—a Fun Pact. Two nights a week, they add a little variety to Rowan’s measured life. What Claire comes with aren’t exactly Rowan’s idea of fun, but he’ll do anything to hear Claire’s snort laugh and be happy.
But the problem is the more time they spend together, the harder it is for Rowan to subdue the possessive impulse to kiss his wife…
“I don’t know how to not love you.”
@lauralangawrites this is such a sweet story!. You do a wonderful job of bringing your light not only physical illnesses, but mental health issues as well. I enjoyed how you handled each with kindness and truth. It was refreshing! I love the healing Claire and Rowan will undergo and where they choose to belong!! The ending to this story is quite sweet as well. This book is worth the read!
“You’re all I’ve ever wanted.”
#anynexpectedroomie
“That starburst of excitement cascaded through her veins. Nothing was better than something unexpected.”
Great book! I enjoyed it so much. It’s really, really good. Claire (“Someone who had thousands of acquaintances but only one true friend because though she loved the company of others, she hated them knowing her.”), returned home to sort out a mystery ailment, after travelling for several years, and ended up staying with her best friend’s younger brother, Rowan (“‘the cinnamoniest cinnamon roll’”). A little awkward since their last interaction had been his confession of love before she left to travel. Facing the prospect of growing medical debt, Claire agreed to marry Rowan for his medical insurance. The more time they spent together, the more their relationship grew until the line between fake and real blurred. The characters were excellent. Layered and engaging. Both main characters had issues from their pasts. “It was a character flaw, her urge to run. Claire knew that. But it was also as instinctive as one’s desire to take a breath after being under water.” In spite of it all, Claire really was so fun. Rowan, was sweet and so patient (except with himself). “‘I don’t know how to not love you.’” Rowan’s family was wonderful. I liked the reverse age gap. The epilogue is so adorable. There are elements in this story addressing death of a grandparent, parental abandonment, anger management issues, and domestic violence. This story is part of a series about a group of male friends who had been college roommates. The “Dorm Bros” were great. Loved to see a group of male friends who were so emotionally supportive of each other. While there is carryover from the previous books, this book reads well as a standalone. This is a fade-to-black romance with intimacy occurring off the page between a married couple. There is mild innuendo and no harsh language.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Thank you so much Laura for my copy of An Unexpected Roomie, and Happy Pub Day! I enjoyed Rowan and Claire’s story so much, and fell in love with Rowan hard and fast! He was my favorite part of the story and instantly made it onto my book boyfriend list 💕 The chemistry that these two had was off the charts, and the slow-burn sweet romance was fantastic! I loved Claire and Meg’s relationship too, it reminded me of the friends I have in my life that are most important. The conflict in the book, I feel, came to a conclusion a little suddenly, but I was really happy with how everything ended!

An Unexpected Roomie follows the story of Rowan and Claire. Although this is book 3 in the 'Love Tuscon' series, this book can be read as a stand-alone. Rowan is Claire's best friend's brother and one of Claire's childhood friends. Claire is a travel social media influencer who returns to her hometown after being gone for several years. Her return catches Rowan off guard. Rowan has been pinning for Claire for many years. Due to medical issues, Clair needs a place to stay, which happens to be at Rowan's home. There is an issue at the doctor's office that leads to Claire needing additional care, which ultimately means she needs better insurance. Rowan offers to have Claire join his insurance, however, to do so they must get married. Their marriage of convenience and close proximity causes Claire to look at her relationship with Rowan in a different light.
I enjoyed this story. This was my first book by Laura Langa and I will check out her other books. I adore the characters. I love Claire, but I LOVE Rowan. Both characters are dealing with some internal issues, but I enjoyed experiencing their growth throughout the story. Rowan is a protector and a communicator. He is also very patient with Claire. Do be aware this is a closed-door romance, so the scenes are kept to some steamy kissing.
Overall, this was a fun read and I look forward to reading more.
Thank you Laura Langa for providing me with an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
