How to Marry a Lich

Rate this book
Fans of The Addams family, Mary Shelley, and eldritch horror will gobble up this deliciously gothic monster romance.

For the last five years, Dahlia Grayskull has sought solace in the shadows of the decrepit, and supposedly abandoned, Rosemont Manor. She's been hiding from her reputation as the shrew of King's Fall, her wicked stepfather, and the shadow of something much more deadly.

Unbeknownst to her, Lord Sebastian Rosemont has been watching her traipse through his deadly garden and read books to the graves in his yard. The Lich Lord is very protective over what he considers his, and Dahlia is his now...whether she knows it or not.

When Dahlia's life and inheritance hang in the balance, she must submit to her mother's dying wish - marry or lose everything. Who better than a Lich to tame this shrew?

My inner Addams soaked up every word of this macabre gothic steampunk horror romance with the cutest creepy found family you could ever dream of. Literally perfection 🖤
.
This book felt like it was written exactly for my pan goth soul 🩷💛🩵🖤
.
Dahlia is the incarnation of the human my inner child wanted to become. She is fierce and stabby but also loyal and loving. I adore her probably as much as Sebastian, maybe even more...
.
And for that Lich? I'm a lost thing too - could you please find me, my Lord? That would be magnificent, see you soon!
.
I NEED that Headpiece - iykyk - in my life.
.
The world building was terrific - the setting was excellent and the story was outstanding - this might be one of my favorite books.
And I'm desperately in love with all these adjectives I use - if you don't like them you can leave ✌🏻
.
Thank you so much for trusting me with an e-ARC -
I couldn't enjoy your book more, Lizzie 🖤

How To Marry a Lich

DNF 70%

I really REALLY wanted to love this book and have been wanting to support this author a while. However, like many of the reviews state there were several problems making this read sadly boring. The idea of this book was so promising but it was not executed to the fullest.

Dahlia and Sebastian were cute and had great moments together but for an almost 600 page book there was ZERO plot. I have no problem with low angst but this book was so slowww.

I have a thing for monsters with low self esteem. Sebastian was a sweet, if maniacal, Lich who needed stabby Dahlia to bring him back to life (not literally, he’s still a Lich). I liked his mad scientist laughter and overprotective tendencies. Dahlia was a grump with a well earned chip on her shoulder who was fiercely protective of those she loved. They were a cute couple dealing with some intense life threatening problems and pulled into a marriage of convenience. The side characters are also super fun.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: Blood, Gore, Attempted physical assault, Attempted drowning, Aggravated Assault (battery), Necromancy/Raised Undead, zombies, Sleep Paralysis, Psychological Horror, Eldritch Abominations, discussions of genocide (In a historical sense/past narrative), death, Emesis, mentions of a death of a pet/sickness resulting in death of a pet

I received this book as an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I almost DNF this book multiple times through the first 50%.

Dahlia (fmc) is annoying and rude, making threats to stab people and stomping her feet like a spoiled brat whenever she doesn't get her way or gets irritated. That alone almost made me stop reading it.

The author missed the mark on charming and comedic, instead ending up with goofy child like characters and a cheesy story that played out like a children's/ya book (other than the explicit sex scenes)

I found myself confused at how the magic and the world in general functioned. The lack of world building really hit during the big fight scene when random magic was being thrown around, and new creatures were being introduced with no prior explanation or description for the reader to refer to.

The big fight scene (and conclusion to the curse) was messy and chaotic, making it extremely difficult to follow. I had to read parts of it multiple times to make any sense of it.

Delphines journal entries really missed the mark for me and felt like a lazy way to introduce information to the reader.

One of the big reasons I almost dnf multiple times was the fact that the lawyer, Smith, was a slenderman. I just couldn't imagine a random creepypasta myth in the same world as ghouls, wraiths, and lovecratian gods.

In addition to all of this, it seemed as though the author completely skipped editing. From spelling errors to sentences that make no sense as well as just using the wrong words "flower" instead of "flour"

I originally was going to give this book one star, but I think maybe it's a good concept, just bad execution? I did appreciate the trigger warnings at the beginning of chapters when applicable. And the spicy scenes are fantastic (if you're cool with tantacles).

Overall, I didn't find myself enjoying this book, and I would not recommend it.

Thank you to Lizzie for allowing me the honor of reading an ARC. This is an honest review.

Dahlia Grayskull (anyone else constantly thinking of he-man?) finds solitude and peace in the shadows of Rosemont Manor, hiding from her terrible stepfather. Little does she know, Lord Sebastian Rosemont, a Lich Lord, has been observing her reading to the graves and tending the overgrown plants from his supposedly abandoned Manor. As Dahlia's life and inheritance hang in the balance, a surprising solution emerges – she must marry to secure her future. And who better to "tame the shrew" than the enigmatic Lich Lord himself?

"How to Marry a Lich" by Lizzie Strong is a delightful blend of creepy, cute, and smutty vibes that left me thoroughly enchanted. With a hefty dose of inclusion and acceptance, this gothic monster romance unfolds like a warm hug, adding charm to its spooky horror elements. The often campy horror contributes to the book's unique appeal. I don't know if I've ever giggled this much reading a book.

The characters in this story are not just well-crafted but also endearing. The found family dynamic is heartwarming, and the narrative celebrates the uniqueness of each character. Lord Sebastian, the Lich, is a sweet cinnamon roll outside the bedroom while embracing his dominant side within. Dahlia's opinionated and spirited personality adds a refreshing touch, making her a character to root for. In a world where monsters are often more humane than humans, this story stands out as a wonderful celebration of the "lost ones". And gives them a family.

This book skillfully balances the plot, characters, and spice. It celebrates the quirks of its characters and the gothic setting. It's a book that doesn't shy away from embracing the weird and turning it into something delightful.

Lizzie Strong has crafted a book that not only entertains but also leaves readers with a warm and fuzzy feeling. Love this.

"That's the thing, Dahlia. I don't want you a healthy amount. I want you so desperately and entirely, it's likely to be my demise."

This book was 600 pages of the swooniest romance and delicious spice. Sebastian is top tier book boyfriend. I loved all the characters (well not all but you know...the good ones), the romance was perfection, and the spice was exactly what I look for in monster romances. I loved the found family feels of all the characters that lived in Sebastian's home. So cozy.

I found it a bit hard to follow some of the action sequences and the background story about the fmc and her family but it wasn't a huge deal because the characters and romance were so fun to read. One more thing that popped out at me was the confusing time period. I was going into it imagining gothic/Victorian but then there were mentions of modern stuff like cell phones and leggings. My brain just wanted to settle on one but it couldn't.

I had no idea that there are more books from this world and I definitely want to read them and learn more about the magic and some characters we met in this book.

There's always one side character I fall in love with and Smith was the one here. I would let that man do anything to me no matter how many times I got shocked. 😆

Release day!!!

So this is a GREAT three star .. honestly, how long will I need to beg goodreads for half stars? Do I need to riot.. or start a petition?
Anyway, hear me out:

We open with our girl Dahlia dealing with a scumbag sent by her stepfather ~for nefarious purposes I won't divulge~

Of course, she makes her way to her safe place: an assumptively abandoned manor where she can be herself. However, things are not always as they appear, and the manor becomes more than her safe haven. It becomes her home where she finds her family. I'll stop here bc, if you've read my reviews before, I don't do book reports. Go read the book blurb - authors work hard on those.

From this point, the plot thickens (and boi, is she thiccccc). The characters are beautifully weird, and I liked each individual one, but I will say some received more love than others. Totally fine, though, because our MCs did get their due.

The reason this wasn't quite a four star for me was the pacing and details. There was SO much happening - for me, I'd have like to see one of the following two things for this book:

More detail and a series for this story because the meat is totally there, and the author has the talent. We could have gotten more back story to build our characters and world up, maybe some building curiosity before Dahlia (quite literally) crashes into their world fully. Then we could have dug into the side characters more as well.

OR

Some major cuts. To keep this one book, certain aspects could have been removed as not quite necessary or fleshed out with certain sentimental scenes cut out (and I mean emotionally sentimental, not the smut. Don't touch my smut).

Overall, I enjoyed this book and the authors ability to hold onto her plot and characters. I look forward to seeing more from Lizzie Strong. Especially her smut. It was fresh, fun, and just.. a little different ✨️ 😌 😘

Alright so this is my first book review basically ever. I'm writing it because I was fortunate enough to be selected to receive an ARC, but honestly it deserves the praise regardless.

I don't want to go much into the plot (which is lovely) because the whole thing is a bit of a mystery and anything I mention about the assorted twists will definitely veer into spoiler territory faster than you could blink but let me start by saying that despite the ghoulish (pun intended) trappings, this book is full of cinnamon rolls. The characters who call Rosemont Manor home are all sweethearts in their own way, and as someone who is adamantly not a fan of zombies (or similarly fleshly decay) I genuinely enjoyed some of the details Lizzie included in their descriptions. I also really loved the casual representation included but, again, trying not to go too hard into specifics!

The layered mysteries feel like they evolve naturally, and the conclusions aren't ones I would consider over the top because the entire book is just a delightful ride from start to finish. The villains are a little over the top, the heroes (if you will) are most definitely over the top, and if you go into this book expecting a Very Serious Time throughout then you're going to either be very disappointed or you'll find yourself relaxing into it and chuckling along with some of the characters' antics.

I'm genuinely looking forward to the next book in this series, and this one isn't even officially out yet!

This book surprised me. I knew little going into it. I just knew my best friends loved it (hi Fae and Rouge!!), it has a STUNNING cover, there was a plus-sized FMC, a haunted house, and a MMC with a mating tentacle. All I needed to be instantly sold.

What I did not expect is all the soft and warm feels. There is a strong found family element that really caught me. This book was not just about romance, it was about relationships, friendships, and healing from your past. It made it so special to me. I loved zombie Kevin, zombie cat Moonpie, and Carl the hellhound. I wish I got more of them. I would read stories about their daily antics forever.

SEBASTIAN AND DAHLIA. I fucking love them so much, together and a part. I loved their vulnerability and strength, how they grew together. Somehow Lizzie managed to make this a slow-burn where they get together before 50%. Anticipation made the spice so much better.

I am eager to get more of this world, and delighted to find out Ophelia's story is already out and ready for me to consume.

I typically gush more when I am this in love with a book, but I truly do not want to spoil it for you. Check the triggers, check the tropes. If this is for you, PLEASE READ IT!! This book is truly something special.

ARC READER. Written in third person and the chapters are written in either main characters POVs. It is Goth Chic~!

I don’t care what anyone says. This book has me in a chokehold! I LOVED it! It was a roller coaster of emotions. Laughter, tears, heartache, happiness, spice, and a number of What. The. fucks. A number of characters hold a special place in my heart! If you know me and read this book, you’d know exactly who! (Don’t want to spoil it~!)

I was consumed with the story plot, wanting to know what was going to happen, and there were moments that left my head spinning. There are plenty of love able characters and laughable moments. There is a good amount of spice ~ and plenty of tentacle action~!!!

There are some moments that are a bit hard to swallow within the book, but Lizzie gives content warnings and even has content warnings at the start of the chapter for ones that they believe may be triggering to the reader. But it was always worth getting through!

To me, the MFC is relatable, just because there are plenty of moments I can see myself in her as well as my best friend~ who also got to read this lovely ARC!

This is a book I would recommend to any tentacle monster lover who enjoys spicy romance in between a heart pounding and twisting magical plot~! For me it was a FANTASTIC read!

The world in this book is a Morden fantasy setting~! So while there are moments where I feel/think I’m in a Gothic Victorian Era, there are reminders that this is a modern world, with plenty of fantasy mixed in. (Don’t want to spoil it by giving an example.)

Thank you Lizzie for allowing me to read this ARC! I will be getting this book in hard copy to add to my collection of favorites!!!

Side note; I have a new favorite author and will be reading the rest of her King’s Fall books and others! This book is a standalone within her King’s fall series/world collection!!

So, I completed this book a while ago and just didn't have the energy for a review.

Main characters elf Dahlia+Lich/sea creature Sebastian.

Loved it for the found family of all sorts of creatures, each one sweet, funny and brings joy to the household. Especially loved crypt keeper Greggory (loved the name).

Yes, the book was long but I read it all the way through either smiling, laughing or trying to figure out how to beat The Hungry One, so I didn't mind. Best of all is that it does fit the "Fans of The Addams family" (can I also add The Munsters?), tag line.

I would love this as a tv series.

dahlia is feisty, stabby energy but with a big heart & protective of those close to her. 𝙙𝙚𝙛 the type u want on ur side. but shes also a grieving daughter with a legacy & a generational cürse attached who found her way to rosemont manor of lost things which was 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘥𝘭𝘺 abandoned...til it wasnt. sebastian is an undead, a p0ssessıve but brilliant scientist/n3cr0mancer, had watched & fallen for her for the last 5yrs shes been visiting his d3adly gardens. she was his before she even knew.

ive been wanting to read this book awhile, & as thicc as it was, made me an instant fan!! only reason it wasnt a solid 5 for me was coz it felt like gaslight period, but there were mentions of cellphone reception & leggings. but still an absolute fab read full of funny banter, dark themes, magic, mystery, & delicious spice!! 💯𝙎𝙒𝙊𝙊𝙉-𝙒𝙊𝙍𝙏𝙃𝙔!! such an interesting world building that makes me wanna binge-read everything connected to King's Fall. an even better set of characters & fantastic cozy found family full of diverse spooky but cute monsters!! cant wait to read the next♥️

Very nice fantasy story with a heaping helping of some very spicy smut.

READ THE WARNINGS and continue on your own, well informed, risk. If you don't love tentacles, you should probably nope out of this book (but if you do 🤤🥴🥵). I didn't love that the smut got pretty kinky pretty quick with no apparent discussion (even off page) of kinks, boundaries, safe words, etc. However, there is a lot of mid-sex checking in and a willingness to stop if a line was crossed so there's a lot of clear consent, just obtained mid act rather than beforehand.

Really awesome writing in my opinion - great pacing, awesome details and descriptions without being too much, good balance between plot and smut. The characters are amazing and I love them. I also love that a lot of the names are 'normal' so I didn't have to sit and try to figure out how to say it in my head or replace the name with 'that guy' every time it came up like I've had to do in other fantasy books.

I did get this as an ARC but it's a completely honest review and I get nothing for my review except the book that I (obviously) already read.

~ STORY & PLOT 📝 ~

This story will leave rent-free in my head for the rest of my life, and matter of fact, 50% of my daydreaming will be allocated to thinking about Rosemont Manor, his endearing monsters, and the most heart-melting & funny family to ever exist.

Seriously this was immaculate.
👉Amazing characters ? All the way. From MCs to secondary characters, everyone is flawless.
👉Amazing ambiance, world-building? Yes.YES. I want a TV series made out of this book.
👉Pacing? 550 pages and not once bored. In fact, the whole time very much entertained.

I smiled all the time with their funny banters and just their adorable behaviors all the while being totally immersed in that macabre and mysterious atmosphere. Everything was so vibrant. You just feel everything you're supposed to, right when you're supposed to.

~ ROMANCE & MAIN CHARACTERS 💖 ~

Dalhia is the FMC. The ultimate. My favorite ever.

She's funny, witty, loyal to a fault, and judges people from their actions, not their appearance. She stabs first, asks second and I love that violence is absolutely an option. 😂
She's no victim and will never be. She's a badass with the most precious heart.

Sebastian will make you fall in love with a Lich and there's nothing you can do about it. If you're not ready emotionally, don't read this book. 😂

He's just the right amount of everything. Caring, charming, goofy, protective but also so possessive and elevated the "beg for it" to a whole other dimension 😮‍💨

Their relationship builds so naturally. It's the sweetest and hottest thing ever. They're at ease with each other, and they both are exactly what the other needs. 🥰💘

~ SPICE 🌶️ ~

Ok, so this one is a RIDE! Take something with you to stay hydrated and then dive in for:

🧟‍♂️ Blindfold & Restraints
🧟‍♂️ Edging & Org@sm denial
🧟‍♂️ Special anatomy that includes A LOT of suction features
🧟‍♂️ Mating tentacles with knotS (yes, I said knotSSSSS)
🧟‍♂️ Outdoors s£x
🧟‍♂️ Spanking
🧟‍♂️ "Ask for it" / "Beg for it"
🧟‍♂️ Role play / Doctor - patient

Amount other delicious things I'll let you discover while reading 😉🔥

Gothic monster romance just MADE for the girlies who love found family, simping men, and unapologetic women who won’t think twice about decking those who hurt her or her friends (sometimes with an umbrella).

It’s spicy, it’s hilarious, and you’ll be hungry for more in this world

This is one of my all time favorite books

I had heard so many awesome things about this book before I finally decided to read it myself. It totally lived up to the hype. The story was incredible, there was lots to keep me interested in the story, but it was the characters that kept me hooked. I loved the found-family aspect of this book so much. Kevin, Agnes, Smith! I love them all. They were all interesting and brought so much warmth to the book. I enjoyed learning a little bit about their pasts and how they related to the manor. I thought the world was also super cool, Victorian, but there are cell phones and cars! It was exciting and not something I had seen before.
The relationship between Sebastian and Dahlia is so dreamy. I love how she always smacked him anytime he was self-deprecating. I wanted to keep reading scenes between them all night; I just loved them together. Sebastian's love for her is top-tier and so swoony. Lich or not, the man can get it.

Easily one of my favorite books I've read this year. I thought this was great! Really loved it.

I thought the writing had a really clear and distinct voice. Reading it felt fresh and new, and that always elevates a book for me. Was this perfect? No, but it was one of those chaotic and crazy books that suck you right in and don't let go and make you keep reading. It is wayyyy too long tho. As entertaining as it, it needs to be at least 100 pages shorter, and tightened up a bit. There was a lot going on at times, a lot of world building, a lot of magic. I enjoyed reading it but still, it was a lot. It was difficult to follow, while there was world building, it wasn't really explained, just thrown in your face, that last fight scene was a mess. Kinda the fist time I would have liked some straight telling instead of showing? Sorta felt like this was all showing? Idk, maybe the first book explained things a bit more but this was suppose to be stand alone. And while it does do that, it is rather confusing at times.

But I really enjoyed the characters. I typically find FMC like Dahlia incredibly annoying and difficult to read, and while I did find her annoying, I didn't find her annoying to read? Idk, hard to explain and kinda a first for me. She was annoying but she really fit her role in the book and did it very well, she was a great partner for Sebastian. She was a little over the top sure, but so was Sebastian lol. Actually, all of the characters are kinda dialed up and everything is a very dramatic. But that's kinda like, the tone? I think it references the tv show What We Do On the Shadows in the summary, and I can really, really see that.

It is just a tad too long but I still definitely recommend! Looking forward to reading the other books in this world and some of the others in the author's catalog!

I'm so blessed to have been chosen as an arc reader for this book. I'm honestly sad it is over and am tempted to do a reread already. Definitely gonna be living rent free in my mind for the rest of my days. Sebastian is my new standard in men. Dahlia makes me so happy as a character because I actually see myself represented in her. The way my mind is crafting tattoo ideas, it's that good. You need to read this if you love: cozy monster romance, touch her and you die, enthusiastic consent, found family, blind folds, dungeons and dragons, non - 🐓 reproductive appendages, pleasure doms, brats, a plot with your spice, forever pets, and maybe finding new fetishes 👀🫣

If you do not want any spoilers stop reading now....................................................

So our handsome male MC is a sea serpent/mermaid Lich. He is quirky and hilarious and we meet him committing a murder most foul on our beautiful female MC's behalf. Definitely a touch her and die situation, or in this case ripped to shreds. We then get to the creepy , cooky, and wholesome staff of Rosemont manner. I can't pick a favorite they're all so wholesome. As we get into the story we're introduced to Dahlia's (insert every insult ever) stepfather, and step sister that has been living under an alias to play as her "best friend" to manipulate and control her. Dahlia is a spit fire that will use anything she can grab to wreak havoc where she sees fit. Especially umbrellas 🤣(you'll know once you read the book). Unfortunately shit family it's the only villain she has to fight, but an Eldridge horror also needs to be put in its place. But of course our power couple can handle it ... Right? I guess you'll just have to read it and find out.

Y’all… this was one of the cutest and sweetest monster romances I’ve ever read. Yes there are some horror elements but it’s more cosy horror (at least for me).

Our main character Dahlia has been drawn to the mysterious Rosemont Manor for years. She comes and goes frequently but she never goes inside or interacts with anybody. Now Lord Sebastian Rosemont, whose nickname is the Lich Lord for pretty obvious reasons, has noticed Dahlia and he’s a little obsessed. But more in a “touch her and 💀” way than a creepy way. A series of mysterious and kinda unfortunate events lead Dahlia back to Rosemont but this time, she goes inside.

There are so many things I loved about this book but the characters have to be my favorite part. Sebastian has collected this group of lost creatures, like Kevin, the adorable zombie gardener and Agatha, the ghost of a banshee with a serious fear of lightning. The found family vibes are so strong and I loved that.

Dahlia has this really fiery personality that I think works well with Sebastian. They really complimented each other perfectly and let’s just say there’s a lot of really fun *ahem* adult scenes. In variety of places and a variety of sizes (chapter 32 😉) oh and with some help from some… I don’t know if I’d call them side characters or not but they’re handy and a little magical.

This book is chonky, there’s no denying that but it was worth every second. Thank you so much to the author for the ebook, I’m obsessed.

Ok first off.. Read the trigger warnings before you dive in! Don’t blame the author for something you were warned about!

That being said.. Holy smokes Lizzie knocked this one out of the park! I have always been a fan of Lizzie’s writing, but this is a whole new level of amazing!

I now officially have a new favorite book boyfriend! Sebastian is a heartthrob and Dahlia is one of the better written FMC’s I have ever read.

The character development was so on point, the storyline progression was at the perfect pace, the story itself was amazing and had me on the edge of my seat. I didn’t want to put this book down for even a second. I binged the entire thing because I needed to know what was going to happen next.

I highly recommend reading this! If you are looking for a gothic/ Adams family vibe, magic, sorcerers, mystery, suspense, need a laugh, need to cry, this book has it all! Lizzie is an amazing author and doesn’t disappoint!

Again, please read the content warning. This book will not be for everyone! If you aren’t into spice, tentacles, bd$m scenarios, that type of stuff.. just don’t read it.

WHERE DO I EVEN START

This book delivers on every promise of the premise and STILL BURIES THE LEAD??

If A Fowl Company had one of my favorite beginnings I've ever read, How to Marry a Lich has one of my favorite third acts I've ever read.

SPOILERS HENCEFORTH

I wish the marketing could be like "Hey have you ever been so mad you felt like you could fight god? What about BECOMING A GOD??"

After what felt like a slow middle chunk (*felt because I'm pretty sure this was on me), I ripped through the last 20%. Eldritch creatures overrunning the house, the damage to the house, the staff giving their best fight until one by one they're taken out 😭😭

I thought Lizzie had written some horror before this, I'd just never read it. AFC gives a little taste, but HTMAL really flexes her horror muscles!!

The found family is wonderful, tentacles are always fun, we love breaking a generational family curse and rekindling female friendships. And I think the real crown jewel of this book is the eldritch fight sequence toward the end.

This book is a gold mine. A dark, cursed, dressed in lace and silk gold mine.

4.5 stars but rounding up to 5 because any flaws found are outweighed by the amazing attributes of this book.

How To Marry A Lich is best described a gothic horror romcom. If that concept sounds bonkers to you, you would be correct. It’s totally bonkers but in the best way possible.

I had no idea I NEEDED a book like this in my life. The characters are vibrant, the plot unique, and the romance sweet.

Sebastian is 100% a new book boyfriend. I’m in love with that lich. He’s sweet with a possessive streak and a very unique peen. We love that for Dahlia.

Speaking of Dahlia, she may not have been 100% my cup of tea but that’s one thing I loved about her. She felt REAL! I feel like she was someone I could meet in real life. She’s flawed and I love her for that.

And let’s talk about the climax and ending (spoiler free). It felt EARNED! And I LOVE that. It was action packed and satisfying.

I know I used “love” a lot in my review but I truly loved his book. Thank you, Lizzie Strong for giving me the story I needed in my life.

Let me just say… This is one of the best books I have read in such a long time. From the story line, to the characters, to the spicyyyyyy 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I was hooked after chapter 2, I could not put this book down! I fell in love with each of characters from the Manor (sweet as can be, in their own way) and THIS AUTHOR… well they really know how to keep you guessing what’s going to happen next!

I went through all the emotions…. I laughed out loud 🤣, I cried 😭, and I was furious and frustrated 😡 , and fell in
love🥰 , right along with some of the characters.

Everything flows so seamlessly, and naturally, and there is so much detail, that it makes you feel like you’re right there, connected to it all in a way. I can’t wait to see what this amazing author comes up with next!!!

Would I recommend? 10/10, you bet your sweet 🫏 I would! 💋xoxo

I received this book as an arc for a review!
I was super hyped for this because I knew it had some mystery, horror and DnD themes. It seemed like a book right up my alley. I really enjoyed most of those elements throughout the book!
Once we really got into the book I just felt like there was a lot going on between not knowing when the time period was, introduced to tons of characters and figuring out who was talking to who, also confused as to what was actually happening. I felt like there was just a lot with this book, which isn't a bad thing! It's just that it wasn't what I was really wanting from this book. I feel like others who'd want a cozy romantasy mystery dnd type book might like this though!

I received this book as my first ever ARC and here’s my honest review…
Parts of this book I loved and other parts were a bit eh, but over all I really enjoyed it. I found myself chuckling consistently throughout reading with the puns and quick quips the author tossed around. There were also so many eyebrow raises, take that as you will! I liked the gothic steampunky atmosphere, and let’s face it our #LichDaddy was 🔥 I adore that our main lady Daliah is strong willed and a wonderful representation that plus size girls are and always will be super sexy. I appreciated that there were trigger warnings so readers will know what they are getting into, and yeah, I would definitely recommend this to readers who like their monsters with a side of spice 😉

She thicc at 549 pages. I wanted to give myself a full week to read a little bit at a time in order to make the release date of 2/23. I finished it in 3 days 🤣

Strong weaves a magical and fantastic story with every page, making it hard to put down. Every interruption had me reaching for the thing closest to me so I could bludgeon whoever dared disturb my reading.

Dahlia is who I wish I could be everyday: feisty, bratty, sightly violent, honest to a fault yet kind and abrasive, all at the same time. She has a huge heart and is very protective of the ones that she loves. Sebastian is a lonely mad scientist Lich who has been watching Dahlia from afar for years. When an unwanted suitor aggressively pursues and attacks her, Sebastian steps in to save her and Dahlia finds herself inexplicably attracted to him.

The found family in this trope is one of the best I’ve read yet- the Lich’s household is a hodgepodge of different monsters who were all lost and broken but have come together to form their own little unit. I’ve never felt so connected to so many supporting characters like this before, I want each of them to have their own story and HEA because they deserve it.

DNF @ 33%

I wanted to like this so badly. It was truly an anticipated read for me and I’m so sad this didn’t work for me. I was tempted to push through but I also feared causing a reading slump and that couldn’t happen. This is giving way more cozy fantasy romance over gothic romance. And so I went in expecting something very different than what we got. And while I tried and was excited at first the pacing was as off for me. It dragged alot and I was confused as to the ultimate goal of the story.
