Guilty. Innocent? Definitely dangerous. The media chases Lane Lawson wherever he goes. Once upon a time, he’d been locked away because the Feds believed he was a serial killer. Every single day that he’d been in that hell, he’d had to fight for survival. Now he’s out, free, seemingly clear, but he’ll never be the man he was before a nightmare ended the life he knew.
It’s his turn to be the predator
So he hunts. Adrenaline and rage fuel him, and he hunts the killers who think they’ve gotten away with their crimes. He paid for someone else’s sins before, and he’s determined that the guilty will be the ones to suffer. He’s joined up with the Ice Breakers, a team of cold case solvers—a team that helped get him out of his hell—and he will not stop until the scales of justice have been balanced.
And in this new life, he has an unlikely new partner.
PI Ophelia Raine is Lane’s opposite in every way. Fiery when he’s ice cold. Smiling when he’s ready to rip the world apart. She’s supposed to balance him, to help train him as an Ice Breaker…and, most importantly, he knows that Ophelia is supposed to keep him in check. Don’t let him go off the deep end. An order he’d heard her receive.
But the problem is that the more he’s around the gorgeous and tenacious Ophelia, the more Lane’s control begins to fracture. Because it has been far too long since he’s taken something—someone—for himself. And he very, very much wants Ophelia. A dark and desperate desire that begins to consume him.
Ophelia has her own darkness hidden inside.
The more he’s around her, the more Lane realizes that Ophelia’s bright and beautiful veneer is just a facade. She’s hiding secrets. Secrets that she’s keeping from him and all of the Ice Breakers. And when Ophelia’s bloody and violent past comes back to haunt her…
She will need a monster to keep her safe.
Author’s Note: Cold case solvers need to get ready—Ophelia’s past isn’t dead and buried the way she’d desperately hoped. Instead, it’s alive and well…and coming after her. She’ll need the help of a very unlikely protector—a man who claims to be no one’s hero—in order to survive the evil heading her way. But heroes are overrated, and sometimes it’s the “monsters” who are the only ones who can get the job done. Prepare for some huge blurs between truth and lies, ice-meltingly hot scenes, and a love that might just be worth killing for…

I'm usually somewhat unmoved by the heroine in romance but Olympia was a terrific surprise to me. She was fiercely independent and incredibly strong and courageous while exhibiting these traits with a spark of humor that instantly had me smiling. I absolutely loved her and would adore having her for a friend.
This author’s heroes always win me over. Lane is the latest example of her talent. His early interactions with Olympia were unique in a way that had me snuggling down deeper with my Kindle and excited about what was to come.
I was giddy with anticipation when I began reading Locked In Ice and then as the storyline began to unfold I found myself swooning through the romance and melting from the steam. But when a book gives me all that and can also make me cry, it's not just a winner in my eyes, it's a keeper that becomes a favorite and it's reread through the years.

Ophelia Raine is a spunky take no crap PI with a connection to the Ice Breakers. This woman is a powerhouse in a small package.
But it’s easier to catch people off guard if they don’t think you’re a threat. They see me as harmless, flighty, whatever—it puts them at a disadvantage.
Lane is fighting the dark side of himself. After what happened to him he is perched on the edge.
She is hired to teach him how to survive. Together they both learn that partners always have each other’s back. Opposites in every way but love.
“My world. My everything. My Ophelia.”
Snappy dialogue and amazing character development. Suspenseful page turner.
Amazing! I loved everything about this story...Lane and Ophelia are fantastic together, even though it all happens pretty fast, you don't really have that feeling, it's all so well written and presented. I really enjoyed it!
Four and a half Well this heroine is just an absolute delight ! I loved reading about Orphelia as she’s an absolute hoot and pairing her with a very damaged Lane was inspired. The chemistry between the two sizzles without a doubt but they both have baggage to work through although admittedly initially it’s Lane who is clearly struggling to come to terms with his horrendous past, Of course there’s a bad guy but the author cunningly gives the reader multiple choices to confuse and eventually delight. Actually there are quite a lot of supporting characters here so it’s entirely possible that we haven’t heard the last of some of these. Plus there’s humour here too in the shape of a relative who has fun testing Lane. All in all this spicy story definitely entertained me and if you enjoy wading through the mire to work out “who dunnit “ then you will have fun reading this book. This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
LOCKED IN ICE is the ninth instalment in Cynthia Eden’s contemporary adult ICE BREAKER: COLD CASE romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for Ice Breakers, an online team of crime solvers whose goal is to solve cold cases. This is former FBI agent turned PI Ophelia Raine, and cold case trainee Lane Lawson’s story line. LOCKED IN ICE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from omniscient third person perspective LOCKED IN ICE follows the building relationship between our story line couple. Years earlier Ophelia Raine lost the love of her life to a killer and vowed she would spend the rest of her life saving those unable to save themselves but Ophelia never expected to be both babysitter and profiler with the Ice Breakers’ newest higher, a man who spent time in prison for a crime he did not commit. While on assignment together, Ophelia struggles with the apparent copy cat killings of a man she took down years before, killings that are getting more personal and seemingly directed at our story line heroine. What ensues is the building relationship between Ophelia and Lane, and the potential fall-out as our couple are targeted for sins of the past.
The world building is detailed and complex as there are many references to previous cases, killings, investigations and betrayal. Ophelia and Lane both struggle with issues of trust having been betrayed by the people in charge.
The relationship between Ophelia and Lane begins as a work assignment in which Ophelia battles between head and heart preferring to work alone but the boss needs someone to profile our story line hero, a man who was sentenced to prison for crimes he did not commit.Lane Lawson ‘s attraction to Ophelia is immediate and intense, and within days, Lane declares himself protector of the woman with whom he is falling in love. The $ex scenes are passionate and seductive.
There is a large ensemble cast of questionable secondary and supporting characters including over zealous law enforcement, and the return of FBI Agent Oliver Foxx, and Lane’s sister Lark Lawson, and tracker Memphis Camden, and falsely accused Beau LeBlanc. The requisite evil has many faces.
LOCKED IN ICE is a story of power and control, obsession and madness, betrayal and vengeance, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and suspenseful; the characters are determined and dynamic; the romance is fated.
Right away you are going to love both Ophelia and Lane. You've met both in prior stories if you've kept up with the series. Which you really should since it's such a good one. I so wanted Lane to find his HEA. When you meet him in his sisters story you realize just how good a person he is. He just does a great job of hiding it. I also enjoy Ophelia who uses humor to hide the pain that's within.
It's kind of funny how quickly these two falls into a pattern as they work together. It's almost like they are perfect for each other. Ophelia works very hard at her job. She sees things others miss which makes her good at her job. Lane matches her in seeing the monsters. That's why they work so well together. I really enjoyed how their pasts made them the people they are now.
Locked in Ice like all her other books is well-written and actioned packed with tons of humor. It will keep you wondering till the very end. At times I wasn't sure who would turn out to be the bad guy. I like that in a story. I will say that you can read this as a standalone, but it will be even better if you at least read Lane's sisters story first. It helps with understanding more about him.
Together, Lane Lawson and Ophelia Raine = “Detonation” and definitely a razor-sharp description for this incredible couple. The entire series has been word perfect as expected from this clever and talented author. Combining whip-smart and addictive dialogue, expertly and imaginately woven storyline with a cast of well-developed characters, Cynthia Eden’s latest effort is an outstanding action-packed page-turner from the word “go”.
As teenagers, both Lane and Ophelia encountered life-changing events that left them with dark clouds hanging over their heads. In the present as adults, Ophelia is an ex-FBI agent turned private investigator, and Lane, who has been recently released from prison on charges for crimes he didn’t commit, is now being profiled to become a member of the Ice Breakers.
When these two cross paths, things go KA-BOOM in so many different directions. From riveting high-wire suspense to intense chemistry that burns with a fierce passion, expect heart-stopping, fist-clenching seductive storytelling. As they search for answers to murder and mayhem, prepare yourself for a deeply emotional and torturous trip with the Ice Breakers in another gripping case.
As the saying goes, “Less is more” – and I’ll not be the one to spoil this utterly gripping and thrilling ride with too many details. But one thing is for sure – this installment is romantic-suspense perfection!
I’ve loved each book in this extremely well-done series – but Lane and Orphelia might have "locked in" and pushed their way to the top of the best-of-the-bunch list. Before they permanently claim that spot, I’ll wait to see what comes next with Beau and Avalon in Book 10, Savage Ice on June 25, 2024.
Locked In Ice is the 9th book in the Ice Breakers Series by Cynthia Eden and although it is a standalone, I like to think it’s a companion book to the 7th book in the series, Buried Under Ice, which was Lane’s twin sister, Lark’s story. I honestly think if you read Lark’s story you’ll get Lane’s background which makes this read all the more heartbreaking and heartwarming. That’s just my $.02! So, I’ve read all the books in this series, and each one keeps getting better and better so don’t ask me which one is my favorite because I cannot do it. ;) Ms. Eden has a fabulous way of making me feel 100% connected and invested in all her characters. And I’m not saying halfway through the book – I’m saying I’m invested from Page 1! She is most definitely one of my all-time favorite romantic suspense writers. As I said, it’s a heartbreaking story to say the least–I’m not going to ruin the story line by giving too much away, but Lane and Ophelia are definitely soul mates with very similar backgrounds even though it appears as though they’re opposites. They’ve both experienced darkness in their lives, but together they are a bright light and I love that. As always, there’s twists and turns, drama, suspense and tons of action-packed, unpredictable and downright scary parts! But I loved the deeply emotional parts between Lane and Ophelia – swoon! I don’t know how she does it, but I certainly hope Cynthia Eden continues writing her creative words for those of us who can’t get enough of them. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book through NetGalley.
From one of my all-time favorite romantic suspense authors, this book kept me up late into the night!
At the age of sixteen private investigator Ophelia Raine gave up on ever finding love again. Now she spends her time hunting the evil of the world and attempting to set things right for the loved ones of the victims. The one thing Ophelia is adamant about is working alone, so how in the world did she end up with a partner she's supposed to profile?
After spending time in prison for a crime he didn't commit Lane Lawson was finally proved innocent and freed. Now he's finding a purpose working with The Icebreakers. The only problem is his boss is worried he's been too badly damaged by his past and worried he's one bad nightmare away from cracking, and Lane is worried his boss may be right. When Lane finds himself paired with a partner that he's instantly attracted to his protective nature shoots into overdrive.
Neither Lane nor Ophelia were particularly interested in being paired up but under the circumstances both want to help solve the murders that appear to surround them both. When they find themselves chasing multiple suspects and more and more deaths Lane and Ophelia will also find comfort in each other; and maybe much more.
Lane Lawson has joined the Ice Breakers, individuals who are determined to get justice for those whose cases were never solved. P.I. Ophelia Raine works on her own, but sometimes assists the Ice Breakers. She has been asked to “train” (and profile) Lane, hoping to keep his rage under control and make him a viable member of the team. His rage is justified as he was labeled a monster and imprisoned for murders he didn’t commit. While in prison he had to constantly fight to stay alive before he was finally exonerated. Ophelia may seem flippant in her perspective, but nothing could be further from the truth. She can be deadly when she is underestimated and is able to take down the most hardened criminal. Her earlier training at Quantico has given her the skill set she needs to “hunt” those who prey on the innocent. After their first outing together, when they manage a double takedown, she beings his training as her partner. When someone tries to set him up again, she has his back! The attraction between them soon flares out of control and he is determined to keep her safe, because she is his! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "LOCKED IN ICE" This was an excellent riviting, intense, suspense filled drama full of past trauma, danger, angst, lies, secrets, serial killer, sizzling hot 🔥 chemistry, humor, twists & surprises that make for a very addicting page turner you can't put down. Ophelia Raine a PI who figures she'll never find the one she looks for evil to right the wrongs for the loved ones & does it alone doesn't want a partner it ends up with one anyway because of her Boss at Ice Breakers, she paired up with Lane Lawson, who was in prison for a crime be didn't commit, his boss is worried he gonna crack. Ophelia & Lane weren't happy about the new arrangement but they both want to solve murders, he's also looking for the real serial killer he was sent away for & he knows she keeping secrets from him & the Ice Breakers. I definitely recommend to get this on the edge of your seat journey Ophelia & Lane take you on especially when her evil past comes back for her, they are becoming attracted to one another the chemistry is sizzling hot, will they survive what's coming for her, will they get a HEA, everything they've been through it's a must read for sure. PHENOMINAL RIVITING INTENSE SUSPENSE FILLED ROMANCE I LOVED IT 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤
Ophelia is a private investigator but worked a job with the Ice Breakers. She has known Memphis for years so when he asks her to do a favor, she obliges. He wants Ophelia to partner up and train Lane, a new member of the Ice Breakers.
Lane was in prison accused of being a serial killer. His twin sister Lark did everything to prove his innocence. Now he works for the Ice Breakers but is helping Ophelia. When a serial killer is caught and then is found dead in his jail cell, Lane is a suspect.
Ophelia and Lane are hunting a killer who is leaving a sign that was left by another serial killer but he’s dead. Can they find the killer before they are next?
I loved this story but I did figure it out early on. Ophelia is beautiful and tough and has trust issues. Lane is handsome, strong, and has issues from his childhood. Together they are a force to be reckoned with.
Locked In Ice is Lane Lawson’s story, which is one that I had been hoping to read. Cynthia Eden has created a character with a difficult beginning that gets much worse. I wanted to believe in him as much as his sister. Lark did. So glad she was right but he doesn’t have much belief in himself, just anger, rage, and a need to provide justice. PI Ophelia Raine does believe in him, accepting the responsibility of training this new Ice Breaker agent.
What a story! I don’t think I have ever read two more opposite characters, grumpy doesn’t even begin to describe Lane. As for Ophelia she hides her true feelings often behind her sunshine attitude. A story of hot attraction, suspense and danger that is closer at hand than thought possible. Expect wide open bedroom door scenes, profanity, and despicable villains. No one can do tough males and tougher women better than Cynthia Eden. Ice Breakers book nine is one action-packed thriller and hot romance story.
Lane, previously convicted for a murder he did not commit has many issues particularly ones of anger. He joins the Ice Breakers a team that are determined to bring murderers and serial killers to justice by whatever means. Ophelia is ex FBI, now a private investigator working with the ice breakers, she is partnered with Lane to help train him and as a profiler assess whether Lane is suitable and in control of his emotions and up to the tasks he will have to undertake. There is deep attraction between these two and their chemistry is well described. Working together to catch a serial killer has them becoming closer. The action is fast and furious and the tension really ramps up as they start to unravel some shocking reveals. This story is jaw dropping and shocking with an ending I didn’t see coming, the perfect crime thriller. My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.
I enjoyed reading this book. Lane and Ophelia make such a great couple. I love how strong Ophelia is. She’s a good private detective with a background with the FBI hunting killers. She’s smart, fun and flirty. Lane was in jail wrongfully accused of murders he did not commit. Now that he’s out, he’s got a lot of anger. She’s training him to work for the Ice Breaker group. They are great partners. They have instant chemistry and I like how she just goes for what she wants. I like that they listen to their attraction for each other and hooked up pretty quickly in the book. I get to see them work the case as flirty colleagues to lovers. The real is super interesting and kept me enthralled. I had a tough time guessing who the killer is. This book has non stop action, great romance and very well written. I recommend and can see me reading it again. I also recommend this series.
I enjoyed this Ice Breaker book so much. The way Ophelia just keeps Lane directed.
Memphis is worried that Lane may not be ready, now or ever, to work for the Ice Breakers. He's afraid Lane may go off and take justice into his own hands. So he gets Ophelia to partner with him. It turns out that Lane is paying for the service.
Ophelia works alone, but ever since she met Lane on another case he has her interest. She take shim on as partner and begins right off the bat with taking down a couple not so nice killers. Lane has to be given instructions to not go too far and to stick with her. She's his partner and he has to cover her back.
Well, one of the guys they took down is murdered in his cell and it is set up to look like Lane did it. Good thing that partners have each others backs and Ophelia can alibi Lane. The bad thing is it appears that the murderer in connected to Ophelia.
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Locked In Ice . I loved reading this story. I've been waiting for this story and I was not disappointed . It's suspenseful and action packed and the characters are entertaining and interesting . Lane Lawson was convicted for crimes he didn't commit the Ice Breakers helped prove his innocence . Lane wants to work with the Ice Breakers. Private Investigator Ophelia Raine works with the Ice Breakers on occasion . They ask her to work with Lane and profile him . When Lane goes after a suspected serial killer Ophelia comes to the rescue . There's been chemistry since they first met and the attraction is growing . When danger comes from Ophelia's past Lane swears he'll do everything to protect her . I highly recommend taking the time to read this Spectacular Suspense Romance .
Cynthia Eden knows what she is doing with romantic suspense (probably one of the reasons I am hooked to this series). She perfectly balances suspense with romance in a quick read that leaves you all to satisfied in the end.
Our hero is training to join the Ice Breakers- a group of former detectives/investigators/bounty hunters who solve cold cases. Who better to aid in his training than one bad ass female investigator? However, not only do they have great chemistry working together but great chemistry full stop that they both give into….. over and over again.
I had been waiting for this hero’s story after he was wrongly accused of being a serial killer and had escaped jail in previous books. Our heroine challenges him every step of the way and it’s definitely what he needs. This book can easily be read as a stand alone and it doesn’t disappoint.
Locked in Ice is the 9th book in the Ice Breaker Cold Case series and wow, this series just keeps getting better and better! While Ophelia and Lane's story can be read as a standalone, I'd recommend to at least read Buried Under Ice - his twin sister Lark's story - for a better understanding of the events that shaped Lane. Chilling villains and blood-curdling events are countered by red-hot passion and deep-seated protectiveness in this action-packed pageturner of a book. It kept my pulse up and my eyes glued to the pages from start to finish! Another fantastic addition to the series and my keeper shelf. Can't wait for what's next for this extraordinary group of people. I was fortunate to have received an advanced copy and am leaving this review voluntarily and honestly.
Locked In Ice (Ice Breaker Cold Case Romance Book 9) by Cynthia Eden Every Ice Breaker is better than the last! Lane and Ophelia both have darkness in their past and come to realize they are meant to be partners. There is murder, evil, a serial killer, suspense, cold cases, redemption, some laughs, tears, wonderful friends, family and coworkers. Lots of steamy stuff and love that get us to a very HEA. I can't wait for SAVAGE ICE - Beau and Avalon's book. Reasons I enjoyed this book: Twisted Romantic Tear-jerker Happily Ever After Haunting Entertaining Steamy Great world building Witty Tragic Page-turner Easy-to-read Unpredictable Wonderful characters Scary Action-packed.
Just finished Locked In Ice, Lane & Ophelias story. Ophelia is the female version of Memphis, sarcastic wit and laid back attitude. Did I mention she's a multi Tasker and counts on being underestimated by others. A perfect match for Lane, who we met in his twin sister Lanes story. I dislike it when reviewers give away so much of the story in a review. I won't do that, but will say, Locked In Ice is a must read, you won't regret. Really hated that the story had to end, hopefully there will be many, many more books in the Ice Breaker series.Kudos again to Cynthia Eden on a job well done.
Lane was convicted of a crime he didn’t commit but was finally exonerated. Now he wants to work with the Ice Breakers but they want to make sure he is stable enough. An investigator they sometimes use is hired to train him and at the same time profile him. Someone tries to frame him for another murder, he has an alibi but the police still don’t trust him even tho he has an alibi. There is great chemistry between the two main characters alone with a mystery. There is a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. This book kept me turning the pages. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
I love this series and absolutely loved this book. I was hooked from page one. Loved how Ophelia was willing to take Lane as a partner. She really seemed to trust him and always had his back. Loved how he is so protective of her and how possessive he is too. The suspense level is high and I thought I knew who the killer was but I was wrong. Never saw it coming. Loved their happy ever after and this book is worth re reading. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I highly recommend this book.
What a whirlwind, wild ride. We met Lane's sister in the last book and well, now its Lane's turn. He's the hero/anti-hero in the best possible kind of way. He's smoldering, vengeance and kind of pulling a Dexter, well, hunting the real bad guys. He's been paired up with Ophelia, the sunshine to his grump darkness. But Ophelia has her own secrets and she needs Lane, her own personal protector who is fine doing ruthless things to keep her safe. Steam, suspense and a great redemption story for Lane. Yeah, baby. Recommend.
Awesome, awesome, awesome is all I can say. This series gets better and more thrilling with lots of steamy romance. We get to know Lane Lawson who was accused of being a serial killer and eventually proven innocent. He has teamed up with Ice Breaker Memphis Camden who he has enlisted the help of PI Ophelia Raine to train and profile Lane. They are now partners on the hunt for a killer that has something to do with her past. This was a real page turner with an ending that I didn’t expect. I really have enjoyed reading this series and can’t wait for the next one to be released.
Locked In Ice by Cynthia Eden is book 9 in the Ice Breaker Cold Case Romance Series. This is the story of Lane Lawson and Ophelia Raine. Lane served time for a crime he didn't commit. Now he is out working with the Ice Breaker. Ophelia works with the Ice Breaker too. When Lane's boss is worried about him he feels it necessary to pair up Ophelia and Lane. This starts their story. Enjoy this author's writing!
I like Cynthia Eden's books. The Ice Breaker series is really good. Since her books are so well liked, I guess it is too much to ask to tone down the profanity. I like that she does take the time to edit. I noticed one word that did not belong; Laned instead of Lane. It seems that most authors, lately, do not edit or have their books edited.
Ophelia is a very strong woman. She believes in Lane and he responds accordingly. Overall, an enjoyable and short read.
Wow! Another fantastic story by Cynthia! This story is about Lane and Ophelia. Lane wants to be an Ice Breakers but Memphis wants him trained first and he gets Ophelia to do the training. The cases take a morbid turn when Ophelia's past comes back to haunt her. The bad guy was not who I thought it would be. What a surprise. Glad all bad guys were taken care of. Glad these two found happiness with each other. FANTASTIC job Cynthia! I would recommend this book!
I loved this book! I think I've liked every book of Cynthia Eden's that I've read. The Ice Breakers series is great. Those of you who've read them (and if you haven't you should!) will be happy to get Lane's story. I liked it even more than I thought I would. Ophelia was a great heroine and she and Lane were great together. And the end totally shocked me! Great book!
You know when you are reading a series and there is one character that grabs your heart and you hope the author writes their HEA. This is that character for me. Ophelia is the perfect partner for Lane and with a great story it zips by. Another great addition to the Ice Breaker Series.
