Hard Exit by J.B. Turner starts with an intriguing prologue that gets this political thriller revved-up and in high gear. A Swiss intelligence agent goes missing and takes classified documents with him that have the potential to expose covert agents and information. It includes information on American, British, and other agents including one that is supposed to be dead. Since the “who” is a spoiler for the earlier books in the series, I recommend not reading the book synopsis and going into this novel cold.

Jon Reznick is former military and a former covert operative who still does occasional work for one of the American alphabet agencies. He’s an excellent shot, highly intelligent, fearless, and tough. However, he also has a temper and can experience mood swings.

This story has great pacing, a twisty and absorbing plot, and plenty of exciting scenes. My main quibble is that I didn’t quite feel like I was in Switzerland. I needed a little more world-building for that. Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed the novel. It is well-plotted with some unpredictable moments and plenty of conflict. Themes include murder, mystery, family, friendship, trust, duplicity, espionage, and much more.

Overall, this high-octane thriller was entertaining, thought-provoking, and a powerful page-turner from start to finish. This is the eleventh book in the Jon Reznick thriller series and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Thomas & Mercer and J. B. Turner provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date is currently set for December 14, 2023.

Hard Exit, a Jon Reznick 11, and a series I am up to date with, and a great character, great series.

Always fast paced, gripping and action packed.

When a Swiss intelligence agent goes missing—taking with him thousands of classified documents that have the potential to expose covert agents and information around the world—he also threatens to expose the one secret that will change Jon Reznick’s life forever.

Hans Muller has found someone on Swiss CCTV footage—someone who is supposed to be dead, someone from long ago in Reznick’s past. If her true identity is as Muller suspects, and if he divulges her secret, it could be dangerous for her and her loved ones, not to mention disastrous for national security.

In a shocking twist of fate, the mysterious woman looks exactly like Jon Reznick’s late wife, who was thought to have died in the 9/11 attacks. Reznick has to know: Is this just a case of mistaken identity, or has Elisabeth been alive all this time?

Reznick jumps into an international fray with Swiss Intelligence agents and the CIA to find the missing classified documents and his own answers. Anyone who knows Jon Reznick knows he won’t rest until he finds the truth...even if it upends his life as he knows it.

Always strong characters, always filled with great suspense, strong story, action and tension.

This author always delivers. Four stars.

"Hard Exit: 11" by J. B. Turner is the latest pulse-pounding thriller in the Jon Reznick series, and it absolutely delivers on the suspense and unexpected twists that fans have come to expect. From start to finish, this book had me on the edge of my seat, and the tension only escalated as the story unfolded.
What struck me most about this installment is the emotional depth it adds to the series. The central mystery of a missing Swiss intelligence agent with the power to expose covert operations worldwide is gripping, but it's the personal stakes that truly make this book shine. The revelation that the mysterious woman caught on Swiss CCTV footage bears an uncanny resemblance to Jon Reznick's presumed-dead wife, who was tragically lost in the 9/11 attacks, adds a layer of complexity that keeps you guessing until the very end.
As a reader, you can't help but empathize with Reznick's quest for answers. Twenty years is an eternity to live with the belief that a loved one is gone, only to discover it might have all been a lie. The emotional rollercoaster Reznick goes through is palpable, and it tugs at your heartstrings.
The seamless integration of Reznick's personal journey with the high-stakes international espionage plot is a testament to J. B. Turner's storytelling prowess. The collaboration between Swiss Intelligence agents and the CIA adds another layer of intrigue and complexity to the narrative.
In the end, "Hard Exit: 11" is a masterfully crafted thriller that not only keeps you at the edge of your seat but also tugs at your emotions. It's a testament to the enduring quality of the Jon Reznick series, and I can't recommend it enough for fans of thrilling, suspenseful reads. This book truly left me with a sense of satisfaction, and I can't wait to see where Jon Reznick's journey takes us next.

Even though this is the eleventh installment of the series, and the first for me, I didn't feel lost and like I was missing something from the previous installments. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this high-octane story that kept me awake until I finished it. I will read the previous installments to see what has been done by Jon Reznick before this one.

Well wow. I did NOT see this coming. I ama fan of this series and have always loved all the books. However, book 10 I struggled with a little and felt like it didn't fit with the others. Picking this book up it also didn't necessarily fit with what you have read about Reznick in the past because this book goes a lot deeper than the norm and it's hugely personal for Jon.

Hans Muller is the start of this story and it's when he finds someone on CCTV footage that cannot be identitfied he realises just what he has stumbled upon! The identity of that person is someoe who is meant to be dead, and sadly for Hans Muller the person whose life it affects the most is Reznick. Reznick doesn't know whether to believe that this missing person is his wife but he is determined to find out. The story is an absolute rollercoaster from start to finish and I read this in just a handful of sittings over a day and a half.

I think you really do have to have read the series to undstad the gravity of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was so pleased with the way the story was wrapped up. I was so worried it would be cliched but I needn't have worried. I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait to see what is nect for Jon.

Hard Exit is the eleventh book in the action-packed Jon Reznick series about a maverick ex-Delta operative who can’t stay out of trouble. After the relative disappointment of the last one, this is a return to form, which has Reznick facing the possibility that his beloved wife - who supposedly died in the Twin Towers on 9/11 - may still be alive. While this series has ongoing plot threads and character evolution, I think this one would work as a stand-alone (although I have read them all in order.)

Reznick is enjoying an overdue vacation in Florida when he is contacted by an old friend who is dying. At their final visit, a stray comment about Elizabeth having worked for the CIA sets Reznick on a hunt for answers. Meanwhile in Switzerland, an intelligence operative has disappeared taking a trove of potentially devastating secret information with him - but why was he so interested in a photo of a mysterious woman whose identity he cannot confirm?

I enjoyed this fast paced adventure, which reveals a new side to Jon, as well as bringing back his now adult daughter. While the previous book highlighted his sociopathic tendencies, this one focuses on the vulnerability of someone who believes they have been a widower for over twenty years, and is finally happy in a new relationship, having to confront the possibility that everything he thought he knew about his wife may have been a lie. Now I’m looking forward to the next one!

Thanks to NetGalley and Amazon Publishing UK for the ARC. I am posting this honest review voluntarily. Hard Exit is available now.

Hard Exit—-The BEST One yet

I was so excited when Hard Exit became available. And I wasn’t disappointed. Fast paced, a hundred miles per hour read. Instead of sleeping, I’m reading. That says a great deal. I’m signing off because I’m exhausted mentally and happy too. Looking forward to Jon’s next encounter!!

What a ride. What a story.

From beginning to end, this was a brilliant Reznick tale. Intriguing, exciting and enthralling. I have waited over a year for this to come out and I finished it in a weekend. Absolutely brilliant. Well done J.B.

I started reading the books about Jon Reznick four years ago. I started reading them from the beginning again before I read the two that were new for me.

I didn't like Jon in book 10. He didn't seem to care about anyone in that story, not even himself.

I like him better in this book but he did a few things that seemed strange. When Elizabeth and Jon are in her safe house, he suspects things are wrong. He knows what should have happened when her cover was blown. Why do they stay there!? In a place with one way out and none around??

Why did Jon shoot the Russian!? He could have killed him without getting blood on himself and the white ground! It's the middle of the January in the Swiss alps but somehow Jon is able to dig a shallow grave with his bare hands despite the ground being frozen!

How did the bad guys find them on the road?

When she's shot at the airport he goes after the shooter without knowing if there is a second shooter!

When Elizabeth asks about Martha I think his answers were strange.

Are you . . . Are you with her?” “More often than not.”My priorities and focus have changed. I see a future with Martha. A future that’s real.”

It sounds like she's his girlfriend but he hasn't talked with her apart from when he's in hospital and Lauren is talking with Martha.

I look forward to the next book!

Hard Exit is another brilliant addition to the Jon Reznick series.

There is a massive twist relating to Reznick's past, I will not spoli it here, that leads Reznick to Swizterland to uncover a mystery. Reznick's daughter comes to help him and, as always, there is some carnage.

This had a slightly different feel to previous Reznick books, the setting of Switzerland helped here, but this is not to the detriment of the story. JB Turner continues to serve up satisfying stories with the one man army (with a little help from his friends) with Jon Reznick, a brilliant read with elements of mystery, conspiracy, esponage and action.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.

Would I reccomend this, certainly - 5/5

Jon Resznick thought his wife died on 9/11, 20 years ago when a photo appears that shows she may still be alive.hans Mullet steals national security documents and plans to sell them to the Russians.

The plot thickens and Jon must do all he can to protect his family while he finds out the truth.

A really well written novel. Loved the pace of the plot line and all the twists and turns. Excellent read.

Seriously, this is one of the worst books I have ever read. Written by someone who’s vocabulary consists 80% of two words, ‘Copy that’. It is terrible. Even the Russian baddies say ‘Copy that’ The story is so juvenile. The main character has a colleague who answers the phone immediately any time night or day and is able to supply cct coverage from anywhere.
Give me. Break…🙄

This book is a bit different than what we've seen in the previous books of this series. It becomes pretty complicated fairly fast. A friend of Jon's is dying. A fellow Delta operator and he requests Jon to visit him before he dies. What happens during this visit have Jon questioning if his friend is too medicated to know what he's saying or could he have it all wrong? Follow this book as Jon is determined to find out if is friend knows something he doesn't or is it just the end talking.

Follow Jon through what might be the biggest mystery yet

J. B. Turner always writes a captivating book, but Hard Exit may be my favorite yet. The plot starts off strong and never stops. Lots of action, a bit of mystery, and some "ghosts" from the past. A nice twist in the middle. Could not stop reading until I saw how it ended. A must read!

Writer has too easy solution to every problem: hacker named Trevelle. Without him and Dexedrine (writer's sponsor? ) Reznick would not survive. I think these characters are done.

I received an ARC through "NetGalley" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This story seems a little different than his others. Here he decides to pursue this task versus being assigned to perform it. Thse story begins with Jon on vacation in the Keyes when he receives a call from the wife of a former Delta teammate. The teammate is dying of cancer and asked to see him. When Jon arrives at the hospital, he is able to talk with him and while Jon is there, the teammate dies. One of the things that Jon was told pertained to his dead wife. Jon believed what he herd was wrong because his wife died on 9/11.

Jon is at the funeral in Montana when he talks with a person who told the teammate about Jon's wife. Talking with Trevelle, he then goes to Colorado to talk with one of Travelle's friends. There he learns that someone recently sent a picture that needed identification. As it turns out it was a picture of a person in Switzerland which could not be identified, but the profile was almost 80% associated with Jon's wife. To make matters worse, the request came from Hans, a person who just stole information and was being hunted. As a result of this information, Jon went to Switzerland.

Once Jon came into Switzerland, he was picked up by the NDB, a law enforcement agency, who questioned him about why he was there. He was eventually released, but they kept an eye on him. His search continued and as he got closer to finding out about his wife, he was taken captive by NDB and told to leave Switzerland. He was under scrutiny because of what Han's did.

Jon was not dissuaded and because of injuries he received by his last meeting with NAB, his daughter Lauren flew to meet him from NYC. To discover why Jon's search raised flags, how Jon ultimately met up with his wife and why the disappearance.happened, what other obstacles Jon had to overcome and it all worked out in the end, then you need to read this book. It may open your eyes to what is going on behind the scenes.

What can I say about Jon Reznick? I have been conflicted about Reznick's character from book #1 and have classed him as something of an anti hero in my mind. Whilst his violence is usually in defence of or advancement of his country or cause, I find his efficiency in killing people disturbing, although I'm not naïve enough to think that these people and situations don't exist (yes I know it's a book). That said over the years and previous ten books I have to admit that I quite like Jon Reznick.

Those who have read the previous tales will have seen his loyalty to friends, family and country. He has also build a relationship with his daughter that was difficult to see happening in the early books. It is that loyalty to one of his former Delta Team colleagues whom he visits on his death bed that embroils Reznick in this latest adventure. His daughter Lauren now a fully fledge FBI agent herself is also drawn in when she follows his to Switzerland.

Needless to say there is as there often seems to be some international intrigues that Reznick and his family are caught up in. However, the back story that J.B.Turner has carefully built over the previous books is somewhat turned on it's head. We now see that Reznick and much of what made him the killing machine he is may not have been what it seemed.

We see a different side to the Reznick character and maybe as he's getting older becoming perhaps a more balanced person overall? Without giving too much of the story away it's difficulty to discuss some of the developments in this sags. It will be interesting to see where this character goes next having had such a life changing adventure this time. I actually think he deals with his latest ordeal far better than I myself would. I think I'd be absolutely livid. However, with my limited skill sets I think it unlikely I'd kill anyone.

Good book highly recommended.

Hard Exit is the eleventh installment in the Jon Reznick series. It is the first one I’ve read but I didn’t feel lost coming into the series at such a late starting point.

I can understand the appeal of the protagonist. While the character is not multi dimensional in development, he is interesting. Perhaps previous books developed his character dynamically. The book alluded to his past death defying feats and killer instincts ( literally and figuratively as he has been in the CIA and other intelligence agencies.

The pace is fast. I read it in one sitting. However, the plot is fantastical and far fetched. While interesting, there were some issues: VERY stilted dialogue, editing errors, unrealistic scenarios. (Would the agents who beat him up really not confiscate his weapon)? 🤔. There were many other examples of 🤔.

This author is prolific and popular and receives high marks. It might appeal to anyone who enjoys espionage and geopolitical storylines. I will read previous books because this one alludes to the protagonist’s many exciting espionage adventures! I love this genre.

My thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of Hard Exit.

Jon Reznick's wife died when the World Trade Center towers collapsed on Sept. 11, 2001. He grieved. He tried to raise their infant daughter alone but realized he wasn't in a good place and enlisted his in laws to help. Only work — taking jobs for the CIA or FBI — distracted him. Yet, from the outset of the new novel by J.B. Turner, Reznick kept getting clues that led him to question his previous assumptions. First, a colleague hears a reference to Reznick's wife that doesn't match with what Reznick thought to be true. Reznick talked to the man on his deathbed, realizing he had no reason to lead him astray with random facts. In "Hard Exit," this little tidbit of information fit strangely into more revelations that take Reznick and his daughter, who is now an FBI agent, to Switzerland. There they get mixed up in a plot that threatens all western nations' security. A hacker is trying to sell information to the other side. Somehow Reznick's search puts him in the midst of everything, and he's the only one who can solve the riddle and save the free world. Excellent stuff. I rate author J.B. Turner up there with the best. His protagonist Reznick is a revelation.

Another thrilling escapade for government fixer Jon Reznick. This time the stakes are higher as his family is involved. When Hans Muller decides he is owed money for the work that he does for his country, he downloads confidential files that another government will pay for. When he is taken hostage by the Russians, he is blackmailed to eliminate a female operative in Switzerland. Jon is told that his wife Elisabeth, long thought to have been killed in the collapse of the trade towers, may still be alive and working as a CIA operative. If this is true, Jon is more concerned with how this will affect their daughter Lauren, an FBI agent, who was a baby when Elisabeth died. Jon arrives in Switzerland and is met with resistance by officials. His assistance from a former NSA friend provides him with the information he needs, but is this woman really Elisabeth? Jon’s exciting and dramatic race begins to find out if she is really Elisabeth and if so, get her out of the country. Hard Exit? - a hard pass for me

I don't enjoy giving a negative review. This may be my first. I have a lot of respect for anyone who can write and get a book published. I have read a number of J. B. Turner's books, including most if not all of the Jon Reznick series. However, 'Hard Exit' is possibly the worst book I've read. Several times, I considered not finishing the book but decided to press on. I will definitely read a preview before downloading another.
One of the most annoying things about book 11 is that it was like 'watching' a bad soap opera. The dialogue was choppy and not believeable. I found that the excessive use of the f-word to be distracting. At least 70 times, some variation of f--k was used. I was in middle school the last time I heard it that much! Maybe if the story was better, I wouldn't have noticed. The only redeeming factor was the narration by Jeffery Kafer. He has a great voice and can say f--k in a very professional manner. Obviously, these are my personal opinions, so maybe it's just me. -Mr.Bill

His books are ones that never disappoint, full of intrigue. and twisted plots.
In this story one can only imagine what Reznick must be feeling, questioning,
it was his wife. The information was to be true, of a dying man, but it wasn't
to him. Muller had unrestricted access patiently awaiting to this day to disappear. Taking information with him that would expose covert operations around the world. Reznick had no choice, to help the agencies and get answers.
A story that shows the emotions of Reznick in a series I alway's enjoy.
