IN 1921, A PRICELESS PIECE OF HISTORY DISAPPEARED WITHOUT A TRACESean Wyatt never takes a holiday. Not even when he’s in sunny Florida to watch his friend Tommy Schultz give a leisurely academic talk.
So, when a mysterious Italian archaeologist alerts them that part of the exhibit where Tommy is speaking could hold clues to the whereabouts of a missing European diamond, he’s intrigued.
But as the clues draw Sean in, the enigma of the missing stone grows deeper than he ever expected. The diamond was once owned by an emperor, but it’s a modern European ganglord who wants it back.
Soon, Sean’s jetting between continents again, tailed by an anonymous yet deadly gang willing to kill him and Tommy and anyone who helps them in order to reach the diamond first.
For once, Sean worries he might finally be outnumbered. USA Today best-selling author Ernest Dempsey returns with a gripping update on the world’s two favorite bareknuckle archaeologists that’ll grab you by the eyeballs from the first page
Ernest Dempsey is a huge fan of action/adventure thrillers and science fiction.
He has been creating stories since he was in high school but never published a book until 2010, long after the days of high school were gone.
His action & adventure books come from a lineage similar to Clive Cussler, Dan Brown, Steve Berry, and James Rollins. While his science fiction novels are full of influence from Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, The Matrix movie, and Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott.
He is quickly becoming one of the hottest fiction authors in the book world.
Related to the Sean Wyatt series, this short story takes Sean and sidekick Tommy on a wild pursuit of a fabled gem of bygone ownership.
Flying to and thru several locations, the duo is joined by a female Italian archeologist, who is bent on recovering the gem ahead of a pursuing Italian mob family. There are several frenetic shoot outs and heavy carnage along the way.
Basically a well done thriller, except for the untoward violence, some confusion over who-did-what-to-whom, and a reliance on the old hack when Tommy is abducted by the bad guys for leverage.
Then there’s a redemption when the seemingly meek lady archeologist… well, read it and enjoy.
With each new year I've come to realize that one of the things I truly look forward to is a new Sean Wyatt novel from Mr. Ernest Dempsey. This year I know it's going to be even better because January started off with a Sean Wyatt novella, The Florentine Pursuit. While it may be shorter than one of the full-length Sean Wyatt novels it lacks nothing in action, intrigue, or the pursuit of a missing object that takes Sean and Tommy on new adventures. In fact, we are introduced to new character Giulia, an archaeologist from Italy who brings the story of the missing Florentine diamond to Sean. Following Sean and Giulia in the pursuit of the clues leading to the location of the diamond is both exciting and heart wrenching at times. This is one of those stories that has something for every reader, and several surprises that in my case I can say “I didn’t see that coming.”
Finishing the story is bitter-sweet, but I know there will be a full-length Sean Wyatt novel coming sometime later this year, as well as offerings in Mr. Dempsey's other series. So, I have to say he started my year off right and whetted my appetite for my Sean Wyatt fix early on. Well done Mr. Dempsey. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of The Florentine Pursuit from the author and chose to provide this review.
Absolutely love how this very talented author integrates fact with fiction, producing a thoroughly interesting story that makes you feel you are reading a history book with just enough intrigue, betrayal, assassins, and gun fights to make it a thrilling read. No boring stories in this series. We get to meet a new character, Giulia, an Italian archaeologist, who sets Sean and Tommy on a quest to find a long-missing diamond. This time they are pitted against the Italian mafia who just happen to be shadowing Giulia’s search for the diamond for their own, of course, nefarious reasons. Thoroughly enjoy, as with each of these stories, the wonderful interaction of the characters. And, at the end, the reader is always provided with a wonderful discussion with the author of what is the actual history interspersed throughout this adventure. Really looking forward to the next.
OH MY GIDDY AUNT. What an absolute humdinger of a book. This is a bit shorter than normal but that doesn't prevent it from being action packed throughout. Sean does tend to get himself into a wee bit of trouble in this one! We are introduced the the lovely Giulla an archaeologist from Italy who is searching for the missing Florentine diamond that hasn't been seen for over a hundred years. With the help from Sean and Tommy their search takes them from Orlando to Buenos Aires and Miami. Of course they aren't the only ones looking for the missing diamond. The notorious and deadly Rossi clan want it for themselves.
There are some wickedly good shoot out scenes in the book as well as ' I didn't see that one coming ' moments.
It is often quite surprising to discover what lengths people are willing to go to obtain something they are passionate about. But a pink diamond? One that has gone missing some generations ago? Yes, it is huge and valuable. Yes, it was part of the historical Austrian heritage when Austria had an empire run by nobility. But in this instance the greed and passion came from the head of the Ross criminal syndicate. A very deadly and much feared syndicate. And Sean Wyatt just got pointed in a direction where he can find out if that massive diamond still exists or not....and that criminal syndicate do not become aware of his interest. The Florentine Pursuit is quite the attention grabber from the first chapter and never stops doing so to the very large page. Enjoy.
Another lucky escape for Sean, although by now I think we realise he is immortal!
What I love about these books is the geographical locations, for those I have visited I can picture the scenes so well and many others are added to my bucket list after reading Demspey's descriptions of them. Who would have thought the Sean Wyatt Thrillers were really a travel blog :-)
The story is fast paced and as usual well has our hero racing around the world following ancient clues whilst being pursued by not so nice guys.
I did miss 'The Kids' in his one, their role seems to have been taken by an AI - not sure what to think about that, but then again they do have their own dedicated series now.
I was very surprised by a number of elements of the story. First, some of the twists were easy to anticipate which I dislike in any book. If there’s going to be a twist, I want it to be one. I don’t see coming until it happens. so that was a little disappointing. Second, this was a very short novel, especially for Mr. Dempsey. His novels are usually much longer and involve a lot more history. This one didn’t seem to have either. Very disappointing but I still love his work.
Well... it was adequate. Enjoyable enough for this genre, a quick and easy read, but it missed that inner joyful sparkle that would really draw me in.
The writing style did not suit me exactly, it felt a bit clunky, and more of a tell than show kind of storytelling. I'd also appreciate more focus on the historical mystery and less untied loose ends.
But for what it is worth, it is a pleasant timekiller of a book. Had a nice twist I had not seen coming. So I guess I'll eventually check out another story from this series.
In 1921 the Austrian Emperor was dethroned and was exiled. To raise money for his family he sells a piece of history. Sean and Tommy come across a clue on where this diamond may be located. Thus the hunt begins. The story has lots of action and is a thrill ride you will enjoy. With the many twists and turns as the story progresses it will keep you turning pages and you will find it hard to put the book down. Join the journey as you read the story to see what will happen next.
I think you will enjoy this story, I know that I did.
The Florentine Pursuit - a review by Rosemary Kenny.
Sean Wyatt's wife, the lovely - and deadly - Adriana Villa is absent on business, leaving him open to a mission posited by Giulia, an archeologist with a hidden secret in her past. This leads the seemingly disparate duo on an international treasure-hunt, that will put the lives of innocents in danger and end those who deserve it. With a flavour of The Da Vinci Code and a hint of a James Bond movie, get Ernest Dempsey's magnificent The Florentine Pursuit today, to see where the trail leads!
Sean is track down while overseas and he is brought in to find a diamond that has been missing for over 100 years. There is a trail of breadcrumbs, but can the gang follow the breadcrumbs and discover where the Florentine diamond is before the Rossi clan can steal it out from under them? This book shows that Ernie is at the top of his game as it may be a little bit shorter than most of them. The action is packed and it leaves you wondering and guessing the entire way through!
Very well written. Full of non-stop action, with a small bit of history sprinkled in. Will Sean Wyatt, his friend Tommy, and the mysterious Giuilia find the long lost Florentine diamond? Follow them as they trek through North and South America, following many clues, to search for the elusive gem. Come to find out, they are not the only ones after the diamond. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and look forward to more novels by Ernest Dempsey.
This time, Sean Wyatt (with the help of Tommy Shultz and archaeologist Guilia Agosti) competes with the Italian mafia family in search of the Lost Florentine diamond, which once belonged to the Austro-Hungarian monarch. A neat thriller in the form of a novella, although with some rather stiff dialogue. For fans of the author.
As Sean and Tommy get wrapped up in their latest mystery, both are fooled by someone who isn’t all that she says, or is she? For me, this was a quick and enjoyable read. I wish I had been able to read all these books 20 years ago when I often travelled near so many of these locations! A fun read!
I love books by Ernest. I can never put them down when I start reading and lose track of time. Even though this book is shorter than normal, it did not lose the quality of the story. It is full of twists and action. No matter what trouble Sean and Tommy find themselves in, their sense of humour doesn't stop and always has me laughing.
This is a new series and new author for me. I look forward to reading more in this series. I was looking for a new thriller series, while waiting for the next Steve Berry book to drop, so I'm pleased to have found this new story. There was more killing than I expected, so I will be interested to see what happens in future stories.
A much shorter action adventure about Sean Wyatt with Tommy (although he is not in it much or plays a very significant role) seeking a missing huge diamond while accompanied by a woman archeologist and being pursued by an Italian mob. Good twist. While I like the story, it seems to lack that level of suspense and adventure the other Wyatt stories have.
This was another great escapade with Sean Wyatt. It has all the makings that if you are a Sean Wyatt fan, will leave you satisfied.😀 but wanting more. I love Ernies writings and I am one of hid big fans. Can't wait till you put out a longer Sean Wyatt mystery.
I loved everything except it was about 100 pages short. A lot of shooting and killing which I don't mind. Excellent yacht ploy. I think something was missing, either the shortness or not enough story for the fighting. I still loved it. Teresa
Another exciting Sean Wyatt adventure. Very entertaining. Mr Dempsey always puts in a twist to surprise the reader. I sure wasn’t expecting this one. Thanks Ernest. Highly recommended as are all his books.
Infuriatingly anticlimactic! The journey was ok, but the payoff just wasn’t there. It was one of those books that ended all of a sudden, leaving me saying “oh. That’s it? Huh.”
I have enjoyed this series in the past, but this one felt totally incomplete.

Like all Sean Wyatt adventures always interesting pursuit which have some true history. This book would be great for anyone which loves his grand adventure with a trained Agent but not beholden to the government.
Another great adventure for Sean Wyatt with lots of intrigue, chases, killing of bad guys and an interesting conclusion. This was a fun read in a really great ongoing series.
