The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🤎🖤💜💙❤️ Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📔📙 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍 Character development: 😲🫣😡😤🥰
The Hero:Garron - he spent years in an underground research facility where mad scientists tortured him and experimented on him, turning him into something not totally human. Each day he got painful injections which played havoc with his system and caused terrible pain. He didn’t know how many years he had been kept there and even remember what his last name was or how old he was. A new guy was brought into the containment area next to him. He said his name was Jaxon and he talked a lot. Though Garron didn’t respond since most of the time when new guys were brought in, they didn’t survive long.
The heroine:Maxine - she is Jaxon’s sister and her brother had been missing for months. She was worried about him even though he had told her to go about her life since his plan would take time. She worked at a sporting goods store and one of the customers, Eddie Blascoe had been bothering her. She worked for Frank, who had been her dad’s best friend and partner in national sharp shooting contests. Her best friend Cory also worked at the sporting goods store. Maxine knew that Jax was gathering evidence against the Gregori family who murdered her mother and were responsible for putting her dad in prison.
The Story: Jaxon seemed to survive the initial treatments where they were being held and spoke to Garron every day until finally Garron gave Jaxon his name. They spoke through the vents in their containment cells each night with Jaxon telling stories of his friends and family. Garron was most interested in the stories of Jaxon’s sister. They also discussed plans of escape. Though Garron had thought for years it wasn’t possible, he still had hope. The plan was for Garron to cause a disturbance and Jaxon to escape since they couldn’t think of a way for both of them to get out.
Lately I have been loving books about genetic experiments and non-traditional types of monsters. This one had all that and a bag of chips. There were rabid looking animals that were products of genetic experimentation running wild, there were villains that weren’t just the scientists doing the experimentation. There were also people who gained special abilities as a result of the experiments. It was all very engrossing, and I was caught up in the story from the start.
The book was told from multiple points of view which I really liked, I love getting the perspective of both main characters and even that of the supporting characters. The serum the scientists have developed is called “The Red” which is where the title for the book comes in. They developed the serum for its medical benefits, and though the doctors thought the “patients” had volunteered, that was obviously just putting their heads in the sand since nobody would willingly volunteer to be tortured and killed in the most painful ways, live in containment cells and be treated brutally by the guards.
I have to say, one thing that I don’t like in books is when people are stupid or do stupid things. There was one point in this book when Maxine was in a gun fight with a bunch of guys trying to abduct her and instead of killing them, she shoots three of them in the knee. I mean it’s obvious she knows how to handle a gun and is a good shot, but she should of went for the chest or the head. I mean a knee shot has to be painful, but it isn’t enough to stop someone who is determined.
I loved how “The Red” affected everyone differently and gave them different abilities. There were some pretty cool ones in addition to increased strength, faster running ability, and faster healing. There were some kind of gross side effects such as the hunger for raw meat and blood, though that isn’t all that different from Vampires. I can’t wait to read more from this series. I did notice there was a 32-page prequel to this book that is about Jaxon, so I grabbed that and will read it after this.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
WHAT DID I EVEN JUST READ?!?!? This book is not my typical go to kind of story. I kind of went in blind not really realizing what it was about. Added points for the cover looking tempting, ya got me there. When I started it I realized it was so far out of my normal realm of reading I didn’t know how I was going to feel about it. Once I got more pages in I realized I actually really was into it. This ended up being a wild ride through a roller coaster of a story that was so descriptive I felt like I was actually in it standing next to the characters rooting for them. This book honestly had so much of everything. Thriller ,Sci-Fi, Spice, and everything nice. I don’t even know what category I would actually put this book in. It was just a whole lot of anxiety. I will say the cliff hanger ending killed me a little inside but I guess I’ll just have to wait for the next one to come out….
I'm calling it. The MCs didn't even meet each other until 30% into the story. The first 30% is setting up the world and characters while using multiple POVs. Shortly after the characters meet and get friendly, there is a moment where she misinterprets his facial expression. She thinks that he is upset with her, and he knows this and doesn't correct her. So yeah, I'm already done slogging through 100+ pages of plot set up just to have the start off with miscommunication.
So let me start by saying I actually read the prequel Hint of Red first and in doing so a lot of the world building that went into this book was a bit too much for me.
That being said though this was still a great book and I a, really looking forward to the next book in the series Embers of Red releasing in October 2025.
This is a different unique take on a paranormal romance /thriller. Gave me definite resident evil vibes which I loved as these are created monsters through genetic tampering.
Garron our MMC has been tortured, experimented on and held captive for years. He’s being kept in a facility owned by the Gregori family. It’s only when Jaxon (the ,MMC from Hint of Red) is put in the facility that changes start to happen. They communicate with one another through the ventilation system in the facility and eventually they start talking about Jax’s sister Maxine and form an escape plan.
Maxine the FMC, has some fierce emotions and her brother has been missing at this point for months. She knew he was looking into the Gregori family. This book is told multiple times pov and as I stated the world building is strong in the first 30% of the book before our main characters meet.Once they do meet though the chemistry is sparked and the spice co,es in to play.
Both of these characters have a lot of trauma to overcome. The serum itself called “the red” hence the title gives each exposed subject a different variety of abilities and potential side effects, so please make sure you check the triggers before diving in.
With all that this book is a strong 4 ⭐️ for me with a 3.5 🌶️ and has me eagerly anticipating book 2 coming oct 2025.
This book contains multiple POVS, which allows for the readers to get more involved with the thoughts of our antagonist and protagonist. An interesting way of keeping us involved in the motives behind our “enemy”. Garron thinks Jaxon is living in fantasy land when he says they’ll have their freedom. His years of torture keeping him from dreaming of anything else. Jaxon’s sister, Maxine becomes Garrons responsibility once Jax has been able to provide Garron with a way out. The draw Garron has towards Maxine is consuming and primal. He doesn’t know which part of him wants her more, the monster or the man. Maxine will have to decide is she trusts this man who comes with stories of horrendous nature, and face what this feeling she has for him is. This paranormal thriller includes mystery, horror, and romance in the harshest of situations. Maxine and Garron have no idea why they’re drawn to each other, but by the time the book comes to an end you are deliciously invested in their romance.
The book moves fast, this quick pace can feel slightly jarring and reading it can make you feel as though you missed something. Be mindful of the sensitive topics warned about earlier, some of these topics can be hard to swallow. Some of the plot could have been done without, while I really wish some parts had been expanded on. The read all together was enjoyable and the storyline is crazy interesting/fresh. I want to know what exactly is changing about these characters and what this change will bring out in them. I’m anticipating the second book already!
Trinity Slain's captivating novel, "Burning Red," is a gripping tale that explores the complexities of human nature, sacrifice, and the enduring power of love amidst a backdrop of darkness and horror. The novel's protagonist, Garron, is a man haunted by the unspeakable horrors he has endured in captivity. Driven by desperation, he escapes with the help of his newfound ally, Jaxon, vowing to protect Jaxon's sister, Maxine. However, as Garron embarks on his perilous mission, he discovers that Maxine is far more complex and intriguing than he could have ever imagined. Maxine is a woman wrestling with her own hidden demons and a dangerous secret that threatens her life. When she encounters Garron, a handsome stranger with an enigmatic past, she is torn between her attraction and her skepticism. As their paths intertwine, Maxine and Garron find themselves drawn to each other by an undeniable primal desire that threatens to consume them both. Amidst the escalating danger and the threat of their pursuers, Garron and Maxine must confront their own inner struggles and make difficult choices. Garron battles with the monstrous impulses that have been awakened within him, while Maxine grapples with the realization that her destiny may be inextricably linked to Garron's, even if she fears his true nature. "Burning Red" is a page-turner that deftly blends elements of horror, suspense, and romance. Slain's vivid prose transports the reader into a world of darkness and danger, where the line between good and evil becomes blurred. The novel explores the transformative power of love and sacrifice, as the characters struggle to find redemption and peace amidst the turmoil that surrounds them. Slain's characters are complex and well-developed, each with their own motivations and vulnerabilities. Garron's struggle with the darkness within him is both compelling and heartbreaking, while Maxine's growth and resilience inspire hope amidst despair. The relationship between Garron and Maxine is both passionate and dangerous, adding an intriguing layer of tension to the narrative. Overall, "Burning Red" is a highly recommended novel that will appeal to fans of dark fantasy, paranormal romance, and suspense. Slain's storytelling prowess and evocative writing style create a gripping and unforgettable reading experience that will stay with readers long after they finish the final page.
I was hooked from the very beginning! I loved how all of the different elements (paranormal, romance, and mystery/thriller) were woven together to create this fast-paced and intriguing story!
This book definitely has some dark moments (please check the trigger warnings before reading), but I didn't find them overwhelming. Some you could even skim if needed without missing anything too vital to the plot. However, these moments definitely set character development, so I wouldn't suggest skipping them entirely.
So much happens in this book and it is easy to follow! I always get a bit lost during any fighting scenes, but I consider that more of a personal problem because those scenes in this book are well-detailed and I still got confused at times 😅 However, I never got confused with what was actually going on (who was fighting who and who was winning)!
Anyway, I loved the multiple POVs throughout the book! It helped me get to know the characters better and learn more about what was going on. My favorites were, of course, Maxine and Garron. I adore them and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book! With how everything ended I really wish it was out right now!
*Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for the eARC!
Burning Red is full of action and adventure! This paranormal romance will keep you invested until the very end! There’s love, betrayal, leaves you on a cliffhanger! Definitely worth reading!
Also important to note that there are triggers in this book. Please check the trigger warning page!
Two facts you might not know about this reviewer: 1) I've never read a paranormal thriller/romance before 2) I couldn't but this one down!
In Burning Red, Trinity Slain delivers a bristling and intense novel that reads like a blockbuster movie. She deftly weaves themes of captivity, sacrifice, and the blurred line between monsters and heroes in non-stop action scenes which reveal characters of depth. Garron, a tortured and complex protagonist, finds an unexpected ally in Maxine's brother, Jaxon. Following a botched escape attempt, Garron and Maxine are Jaxon's only hope. As the story unfolds, the undeniable connection between Garron and Maxine leads to passionate encounters that were steamy enough (stealing a quote from Slain) that 'my vision sparked with red.'
Hats off to Slain for creating a one-of-a-kind tale that broadened the horizons of this reader! I'm on board for #2!
When I started this book, I realized that it wasn't the kind of book that I would typically pick up. The more I read, the more invested I became, and I wound up loving every moment of it. The concept and story are fresh and interesting. The pacing is great, and it kept me turning pages without the fatigue I typically experience with a book so action packed.
Every character is written in a way that I am entirely invested in their story. I loved Maxine, Gerron, Jaxon, and the rest, and I can't wait to find out more about each of them in future books. There is plenty of paranormal action and just enough romance to keep me super invested. There are lots of questions that I am left wanting answers to, which is keeping me on pins and needles for the next books in the series.
If I had any criticisms, it would be that with so many different points of view, chapter by chapter, it does sometimes get a little confusing, and I found myself flipping back to the beginning of the chapter to make sure I know whose point of view I was reading. Also, please keep in mind that this book does end in a pretty substantial cliffhanger, and while that isn't a criticism by me (I love cliff hangers!), I know that some can be turned off by cliff hangers when the rest of the series isn't released yet.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book! It was action packed and kept me guessing the entire time! I absolutely can't wait for the rest of the series! Overall 4 Stars Spice 3 Stars ** please also note that there are some pretty heavy triggers in this book. Please check the triggers for yourself before reading!
“We enjoy the chase. Almost as much as the capture.”
The very first chapter when Garron had blood leaking through his ears and his dark and scary monologue, I knew this book was my type. I didn’t lose interest for even a minute. The plot was just too good till the end!!!!
My favourite side character: Cory. Why? “I’m a damn good shot. I’ve got a few moves and I’m fast. I can run like a scared b*tch.” 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Every single time I read this sentence, I laugh out loud. And let me tell you, I’m going to use “I can run like a scared b*tch” in my daily life, because I’m always running late for one thing or the other lol.
Okay, now for the massive thing hanging over my head. THE ENDING!!!! *Screams in cliffhanger* I’m not kidding, I nearly lost my shit when Eddie came with “Hello again, sweets.” I was thinking he can make an entry again because Garron was alive after all that was happening, so I was expecting Eddie alive too. But damn, when he came back, I was so not prepared!!!! Ughhhh. Honestly, I would’ve preferred if Elias had entered the scene rather than Eddie. (Yes, I hate this character that much).
And oh god, I wanted Max to look at Garron just one last time before leaving. Why would you do this to me!??!? 😭😭😭😭😭

What the heck kinda ending was that Mrs. Trinity Slain!!! That cliffhanger hanger caught me by surprise because I was so invested in the story, I didn't realize how close to the ending I was! Freaking great storyline, spicy 🥵 scenes, and awesome side characters! I can't wait for part 2!
Burning red is a paranormal romance that pulls you in. The characters are well developed and the story is worthy of the big screen if you ask me.....(if you're reading this you did. 😉) Trinity slain is a new author for me but one I will definitely be keeping my eyes on. Book 2?!?
I am giving this book 3.75. This was an interesting read that made me at times thing of racoon city and the umbrella corporation with tests being done on animals and people and the infection getting lose. Some of those infected don't survive, some adapt and evolve and then some really take to it and develop special abilities. That is what happened in this book with the experiments done by this powerful family who owned the town.
I really like Garron who made my heart break as his had been in captivity so long he could not remember a time before he had been taken to be experimented on. He had essentially given up until a new captive in the cell next door tries to connect with him and eventually starts to give him a measure of hope that either both of them get out or at least his get his new friend out and knowing at least one of them made it out.
The FMC main character was nice and could be strong at times, but I will say at times she did things that reminds me of the girl who goes in the basement when she hears a noise. There would be times I would just really question her actions especially considering who raised her. You started to see the strong character aspects as the story went on and she started to experience things so I think as the series goes on, she will grow with the books and hopefully not have those questionable moments.
I will say the chemistry was there between Maxine and Garron, but I think it really came into focus towards the end as they were working together to rescue everyone. I just personally didn't feel the chemistry or understand what caused the initial attraction that led to her biting Garron that brought them together at the start. When I say I don't understand the attraction is that she had a similar instance with biting someone else later on in the book and physical reaction was had by at least one of the parties what made that instance different than the Garron one.
The writing was a little fast paced at times that made it a little jarring and sometimes I felt like I had missed something because we had moved from one scene to the next so fast. But it was an easy-to-read book otherwise.
This book does leave on a cliff hanger, and I am interested to see what happens next to the characters. I do think this is a solid debut book where I was interested and intrigued to see where the storyline went but I do think there could have been some tweaks that could have made it an easy 4 for me. I do think that as the author delves more into the storyline and the characters grow, I do think these tweaks will work themselves out.
I received a free ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
Burning Red by Trinity Slain is a wild, heart-pounding journey that blends genres in a way few books can pull off. It’s a brilliant mix of paranormal fantasy, contemporary, romantasy, romance, and horror, all wrapped up in one rollercoaster of a story. From the moment I picked up this book, I was swept into a world so vividly described that I felt as though I were standing right beside the characters, experiencing everything with them.
The plot itself is a whirlwind—action-packed, thrilling, and often terrifying, with just enough Sci-Fi elements and a sprinkle of spice to keep things interesting. The balance of romance and paranormal elements adds an emotional depth that draws you in, making it impossible to put the book down. You’ll find yourself caught up in the growing tension between characters, as they navigate a world full of danger, intrigue, and intense emotions.
What stands out in Burning Red is the author’s ability to maintain suspense while layering on multiple genres. One moment you’re holding your breath in a supernatural horror scene, and the next, you’re swooning over a romantic encounter that adds a touch of warmth amidst the chaos. The characters are complex and dynamic, each carrying their own weight and motives, making you root for them no matter how intense or dark the circumstances get.
The book's pacing keeps you on edge, and honestly, it was so engaging that I felt a sense of anxiety through most of it—what would happen next? Where was the plot heading? Every twist felt like a new hurdle, and you can never quite predict what’s coming, which made the read all the more exciting.
However, I must warn you, the cliffhanger ending will leave you absolutely wrecked. It’s the kind of ending that makes you wish the next book were already out. It definitely had me eagerly awaiting what’s to come, but also with a little pang of frustration. The emotional rollercoaster doesn’t stop with the final page, and the anticipation for the sequel is almost unbearable.
In conclusion, Burning Red is a book that defies easy categorization, blending elements of thriller, fantasy, horror, romance, and more. It’s a whirlwind of emotions, twists, and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you’re looking for a gripping, multi-genre read that will keep you hooked from start to finish, this one’s a must-read. Just be prepared for that ending—you're going to need to grab the next book as soon as it hits the shelves.
Thank you to Net Galley, black rose writing and Trinity Slain for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
If you like feral primal play smut this book is probably for you. If you like a decent plot then it’s probably not.
There were a lot of aspects of this book that I wanted to like, the premise behind it sounded good. The idea of everything was extremely interesting to me. The execution, however, was a huge miss. I tried very hard to finish but I had to DNF around 50% when I couldn’t stop cringing at the massive plot holes and the super cheesy dialogue. The book is ROUGH.
There are definitely things the author could have done to make the plot more seemless but after 50% I have a whole lot of”wait… how did this happen if this happened”, and “the FMC is an idiot.” Also I feel like the villain would have made a better love interest than the strong, rocks for brains Mmc. After 50% I don’t have a good idea of who he is except a very strong boi. The multi pov sucked, it jumped around so much you can’t create good character development when you are half way into a story and you know a teaspoon about each character. The FMC cries a lot and then gets angry a lot, the brother has a hero complex and is questioning his bad decisions, the MMC doesn’t know who he is except strong boi and he is basically in love with the FMC before we even get into the plot which just takes away from the romance in my opinion since he’s never met her.
It felt like this story was just trying to do too much, not enough world building/background or character development for a book that is pacing that fast and starting almost at the beginning of everything. If this book is setting up for a multi-book series then there should be more time taken into its development. Lots of action, very little depth. Idk if this is a writing thing or an editing thing and honestly if I didn’t agree to review this I probably wouldn’t be writing this since I don’t like to put negative reviews out there. I know this author worked hard on this, but to me it was an huge miss.
Anyway, I hope it reaches the right audience and maybe the finalized copy has more solid plot that can focus on the smut. Because the smut was pretty good. Honestly because the plot structure is compelling it might make an interesting film script.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 stars 🌶️🌶️ spice
I felt you before I even laid eyes on you. I would have found you, even if I wasn't looking.
I honestly didn't know what to expect when I picked up this book, but I was pretty blown away. The cover is quite unassuming, and here I was thinking I was walking into some predictable paranormal romance. Wrong!
If I can find adequate words to give you a feel for the vibe, it's almost a pre-apocalyptic dystopian urban fantasy romance (wow, what a mouthful but honestly, it's hard to describe). Set in the real world but with an underground, human trial based lab experiment on crack, led by a mob-esque family of super villains. I know...it's a lot. I could absolutely envision this translating so well into a TV series.
This was also one of the most intense, action-packed books I've read in a while. It was all about pace and plot. It was fast moving and didn't leave you bored for a second! You'll hit the ground running from the very start, and be pulled into this twisted story that will have you gripping your kindle tightly, desperately hoping all your favourite characters make it out alive.
Absolutely loved the main characters, even though Garron is a terrible name for an MMC (sorry, not sorry - I'll get over it). I can't wait to keep reading this series to learn more about them with some added character development, as that's really what I felt was pushed to the side in favour of plot in this first installment. There was a lot of information to get through, and it would have been nice to focus on learning more about their histories. Again, I'm hoping this is coming as more is revealed in the future.
Loved the multi POV format, and so cool getting villain POV chapters - I hate read those chapters so hard. There are some great, slimy little worm bad guys in this series and I can't wait for them to get their asses kicked by my girl Max.
Tropes: ❤️🔥Urban/Paranormal Fantasy ❤️🔥Insta Love ❤️🔥Fated Mates (maybe?) ❤️🔥Touch her and die ❤️🔥Multi POV
Well where to start! This plot has you guessing, second guessing and suspecting! I absolutely can’t wait for the following books!
I loved how this book had my mind ticking from the off! The multiple povs kept the plot fresh and made you think in different prospectives. Every other page felt like there was a ohhh, ahhh, bombshell moment or you thought you’d figured something out only for something else to happen!
Spoilers alert!
Quite early on I could tell this isn’t a happy ever after kinda book which is my cup of tea ( who wants small town hallmark stories every time!)
The characters still have sooo much background we don’t yet know, and I think a lot of that story will clarify why they react differently to the red as well as why the mountain has particular properties.
certain scenes made me think of warewolves and supernatural creatures in the sense of mates and blood/raw meat for recovery and as someone who enjoys anything supernatural, I thought it was clever that the descriptions had you guessing what the ‘monsters’ actually are… as well as the physical text actually asking ‘what are you & what am I’ especially when some character have supernatural abilities, shapeshifters, animal traits, enhanced senses and other just haven’t really transitioned yet so who knows what they are!
I’m counting on frank being alive and holding the cards to fill in some gaps!!
There are so many unanswered questions…
So much speculation..
I feel like we haven’t even got started on all the crazy!
Going to make a prediction that Dr Devins is the actual evil mastermind behind everything and will be the ultimate villain to defeat! But how long will she fool everyone for or maybe I’m way off 😂 part of the fun of reading for me is guessing what’s next and burning red definitely ticks that box!

Thank you to NetGalley and co for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book sat weirdly with me. Premise is epic, execution is… less so.
Early on we witness Max in a wild and wonderful situation… death and *OH MY DAYS I’m going to find the most on the nose method of explaining just how horrific this situation is* type moment… she is the enemy of the bad guys, the obsession of them. They are bad and she is good but also badass. I couldn’t stomach it.
But I kept going.
Jax (seriously who names siblings Jax and Max?) is a little more believable, as is Garron. I could accept their dire situation, even if I couldn’t quite believe it. They are realistic and enjoyable to read about. Their plight was well done descriptively.
This book reeks of an otherworldly, fantastical darkness in a very earthly, sci-fi-esque setting. Personally it felt like it wasn’t really sure what genre it fit into. I wasn’t in love with it… wasn’t really sure of the direction and I fully admit to immersing myself in a book with no clue as to the ending (which is nice). But the sad fact is that I couldn’t immerse myself because I didn’t, in all honesty, click with the writing. It wasn’t badly written, but there was something (and I can’t quite put my finger on what which I know is very annoying) that just want good about this book.
I think it comes down to a heroine that I just could not get behind. I didn’t like Max at all. She annoyed me from the offset. It’s a shame because I really, really wanted to like this book. It sings to me in a way all my favourites do. It’s just a shame we had to witness an early murder done so spectacularly poorly. Christ. That was something else.
I’m sorry, but this book was not for me. I am struggling to classify this book since it had multiple elements from the paranormal, sci fi, and horror genres. Maybe if a Resident Evil movie was mashed together with an X-Files season arch?
This story centers around a town where there are underground labs conducting testing on adults, children, embryos, and animals. There is a “treatment” called “the red” that causes humans and animals to have characteristics of zombies, vampires, shifters, as well as have X-men like powers. “The red” can be transferred through bites from treated individuals to untreated individuals.
This book graphically outlines an on page suicide attempt, kidnapping, torture, references to coerced/drugged intercourse, and vivid on page sexual assault. These sections were difficult to read. Some of these were listed in the trigger warning page.
For me, the characters felt one dimensional and underdeveloped. The FMC specifically bothered me, she consistently made bad decisions and kept blacking out and waking up in weird places.
The beginning of the book had a good amount of world building. This book occurs in upstate NY, near old abandoned mines. The Gregori family dealings and influence, as well as Max’s family’s connection to them, were interesting to read.
This book was difficult to stay immersed in due to use of multiple POVs, including those of the antagonists. This gave the story a choppy quality. The pacing varied from medium to slow paced.
This book had spice, 🌶️🌶️
Overall, I struggled to get through this book and did not enjoy many of the darker elements. I will not be continuing this series.
After reading the prequel "Hint of Red", I HAD to read this book. It did not disappoint! Trinity delivered on all counts: fast paced, action, drama, horror, romance, paranormal characters you'll love, evil villans you'll love to hate - it has EVERYTHING and then some. The descriptions are almost visceral and draw readers into the story to "be there" and experience the same things as the characters. It is told from multi POV (including the antagonist) which allows us to become more invested in the characters, feeling their pain, anxiety, sadness, fear, joy, love, etc. OMG - I can not sing this book's praises loud or long enough!
Garron, a long time captive of the Lab, is befriended by Jaxon, and together they hatch an escape plan. Garron realizes Jaxon didn't make the rendezvous point, and after completing his assigned tasks, secures Maxine (Jax's sister) and they hatch a plan to retrieve Jax and take down the Lab. Along the way, they realize an unuaual connection drawing them together - it's attraction but so much more. (There are steamy times included too.😉) OH, and for those who read Hint of Red, Sierra returns too!! You simply don't want to miss this. Word of caution though guys, it does end in a super cliffy. I'm normally morally opposed, but Burning Red was so good, I'm looking past that one offense.😆
Grab your copy today, buckle up, and dive in. It's go-go-go from cover to cover and you'll love every minute of it!! I an greatful to Trinity for the gift copy and volunteered my review. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did. Happy Reading Y'all 📚
This book is not something I technically don’t read it was different. It was great I was hoping for an HEA female main character has been through some crap. It’s told in multiple point of views. Female character is strong witty. The main male character is strong and different. The book starts off slow but just wait for it. It’s steams up there is some spice I’m assuming their mates female character in main male character. This is a sci-fi, dark romance absolutely loved it. Honestly the multiple point of views is something that I do love it gives us a peek until everyone that our main characters with that being said there is a lot of work building up and details I saw someone said that there wasn’t enough not everybody likes detailed detail crap. The plot is there and has a setting up for the series to come there is a cliffhanger and it’s a big one. I’m pretty sure she ripped out my heart and stomped on it. I can’t wait to see where this goes. The series is going to be very, very creative and something different. It’s a nice pallet cleanser well done. I have read for a very long time and I got to say, this was executed very well with the multiple points of view the details, the smut I know sometimes people get lost in their plot with their settings and details but this author did amazing job
oh my gosh.. this book is incredible! From the first chapter I was hooked in. I needed to know what was happening to them and if they were going to break out and survive. The fact that what they were doing in the secret underground labs was leaking out to the animals and town surrounding them, was a definite cause for alarm. But because of how powerful the family is that was conducting the experiments no one thought to even challenge them. Unknown if they were paid to keep quite... but I wouldn't doubt it..
I enjoyed the subtle moments throughout the book where they are clearly "shifting" into something else. but the more you read, the more you found out. It's not just changing into werewolves, but there are other powers being created as well, which the scientist doesn't seem to be aware of... I can't wait to see where this goes.
I am slightly confused on a couple pieces of information... why does Jonas never stand up against his brother? When he picked up Max she had this gut feeling that he wouldn't hurt her.. is that another of his powers? emotion manipulation? or will he eventually revolt against his only remaining family member... the other is Max's last statement to her brother about their mother... how does she know that? I went back and re-read the last couple chapters and can't find where she would have found that information...
Thanks NetGalley and Black Rose Writing for an Advanced Copy to read and review.
This is a well put together novel of suspense with elements of a thriller, horror and a paranormal romance all tied into one. It is fast paced and easy to read and I think there’s a lot to enjoy. I particularly enjoyed the author not using the typical PNR trope of the delicate human female interacting with a beastly - but devastatingly handsome and sensitive- monster male. In Burning Red- pretty much everyone is a monster. The world building was very detailed and complete and allowed me to visualize easily and the plot and story line moved at a pace that made this easy to read and enjoy- there were definitely no spots where I had to convince myself to read on. I also liked that many of her characters were not pure evil, and that even the “not good guys” were not good due to some awful situations in the past. So, there really is some nice scene setting, complex characters and an action packed plot - with on page romance and spice- for readers to enjoy. Despite all of that, I found myself envisioning the Incredible Hulk a little too much, and I personally will likely not pick up the next book in the series. But, if you want a fast paced, heart pounding action packed paranormal romance, this could easily be a winner for you!
While this story does have a steady, even paced start, this story quickly becomes intense. I love the easy flow of Trinity Slain's writing, and how easy it is to see the scenarios that her protagonists are going through. the story is so seamless that you immediately are captured by it. I read this story within a day, couldn't seem to pull myself away from it.
And I'm glad.
Garron is being held captive in an experimenting facility, and has become friends with Jaxon, who is Maxine's brother, that she has been searching for. Maxine is a young woman that is looking for her brother that disappeared. After the death of their mother, and her recovery from depression as well as other things she was battling, all that she has is her brother. They are instantly drawn to each other after Jaxon and Garron escape the prison that they are in, even though Jaxon get stuck behind. The chemistry between them feels realistic, and they read like real humans.
This book is so full of action, emotions, the spice that we need. If you are looking for a paranormal thriller with great development, read this.
Whew the author was not kidding about the trigger warnings at the beginning of this book. Heed them people, this is rough and sad. It seems like everyone in this book is going through actual trauma and torture. This is not for the faint of heart. Burning Red is the first book in The Red Legacies series and there is a prequel you can read as well if you wish. There's a sinister family that owns the town and is genetically modifying humans against their will in a secret lab. Our FMC is trying to find her missing brother (who was captured and sent to the lab) and meets the MMC (who brother helped escape from the lab) there is all kind of bad things the whole time. I'm confused as to what type of monsters the DNA modification and "The Red" are doing to humans ( aspects of werewolves and/or vampires) and mammals but I don't think we are suppose to know at this point in the series but it reminds me of x-men mutants with abilities. There are multiple POV's which also adds to the story. Slain does warn us that the book ends on a cliffhanger so be ready.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Soooooo this was my dip to the other side.. My 1st Paranormal Thriller... Well paranormal, thriller, fated mates, monster anything period. I wanted to switch it up a bit from my regular billionaire, dark romance, and romcom genres...
Burning Red did not disappoint. It wasn't as spicy as the smutty books I usually read but the spice was definitely there just without the whips, chains, breath play well you get it.. lol
This book definitely introduced to me a genre I didn't know I needed until I read it!! I don't know if all fated mates stories are like this but the Chemistry between the MFC and the MMC was explosive and I love that it didn't seem forced... If you like possessive, touch her and I'll kill you type vibes, jealousy, telekinesis, & monsters type vibes then this is definitely for you.
And the plot was everything!!!! It felt like I was watching a sci-fi movie scene by scene. The ending did piss me off.... but in a good way because I'm nosey and I don't like cliffhangers but the endinggggg.... OMGgggg
Burning Red is book one of a trilogy. The cover and description absolutely drew me into wanting to read this book. Before reading, beware of the content warnings!!!
I absolutely love the premise of this story and wanted to love the book just as much. I tried to get myself to hang on but there were too many issues with the writing style that distracted me from the story. The writing felt chunky and all over the place. It needed a lot more character building and a few less POVs for me to feel more of a connection to it. The large plot holes really interrupted the reading flow too. I found myself having to take a step back and say, “Wait, what?” way too many times. The potential is there, it was just a miss for me.
I do want to give a thank you to Net Galley and Black Rose Writing for allowing me the opportunity to read this eARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I won't lie, I wasn't sure what to expect with this book after the first chapter. I didn't expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. This wasn't a book I usually would read but I couldn't put it down. I had to find out what was going to happen next. The story starts in Garron's POV, Garron has been a prisoner at this facility for as long as he can remember. The doctors at this facility have been experimenting on the prisoners. The experiment has changed Garron into a monster. When Garron's cell neighbor Jaxon hears that his sister Maxine is in danger the two work together to create an escape plan and save Maxine. Only the plan goes wrong. Now Garron must save Maxine and return to the facility to save Jaxon and the rest of the captives. When Garron meets Maxine his monster claims her as his. If you want to know more you'll have to read to find out. Just beware that there is a cliffy at the end of the book.
