Shifting Shadows

REINCARNATION, MURDER AND ROMANCE. Elizabeth Dupard awakens at the foot of the staircase in her familiar home. But her home has changed. The furnishings are similar but not the same. Mama and Papa are gone. Then she looks in the mirror and sees a stranger looking back at her. The year is 2013, not 1905. Elizabeth Dupard died a hundred years ago and was reincarnated as Analise Parrish, the face she sees in the mirror but doesn't recognize. Analise has recovered memories of a past lifetime as Elizabeth Dupard and lost her memories of her present life. Someone killed her in that former lifetime. Someone is trying to kill her in the present, and she must recover her memories of this lifetime or die. Can she trust Dylan Forrest, the mysterious stranger next door whose touch is hauntingly familiar? Did he love her or murder her in a past lifetime? Will he love her or murder her in this lifetime?

“Write what you know,” they said. I’d been married three times. I wrote romances.

Fast forward ten years.

“Write what you know,” they said. I’d been divorced three times and fantasized about murdering my ex. Only massive doses of chocolate kept my finger off the trigger.

Now I write about murder and chocolate and the occasional ghost.

Despite the strange cover, I thought this book would be interesting. I enjoyed it for the most part, and thought the two timelines kept the story moving. However, I thought that many of the characters' motivations didn't make sense. I got tired of some characters not taking sensible precautions. Still, the mystery and suspense kept me going.

Do you believe in true, forever love that will last for not 10, or 50 years but through the centuries. A love that is so real no matter who you are, you will find your one true love? If you do Shifting Shadows is a love story/mystery for you. Elizabeth was married to Blake, but in love with Shawn. When she tried to run away from Blake to be with Shawn forever, something happened. When Analise woke up from a fall down her steps, she was confused? Where was she? What were the strange clothes she wore? Who was the handsome next door neighbor and what was Phillip doing being around her, after all they were divorced. These are the questions but you have to read the book to find the answers. I wasn't sure about this one when I first started it, but as I continued to read, it be came more intriguing. Sally Berneathy writes some awesome books and this one had the hair on the back of my neck standing on end and me not trusting what seemed real and what could be imagined in the book.

Really enjoyed this. Couldn’t put it down until the parallel lives played out; and I do like a happy ending! Have now started a new book with what seems a similar theme...convergence of past and present. Affected lead character is also female. Another sleepless night...Oh well...

Despite not being able to accept the belief behind the storyline, I found the book intriguing. I became enthralled with the story and couldn’t put the book down.

I enjoyed this book. The mystery was engaging. I wavered between rating it a 3, 4 or 5. While it was good it wasn't the great "couldn't put down" kind. The writing seemed really rough and at times seemed really forced leaning on telling rather than showing. I feel like this could be a great book with some more revision to soften the edges allowing the reader to stay engaged.
