Baird is intent on searching out and destroying more unearthed tyranny, with or without his sister. When a visit from the elusive Everest Sinclair brings more treachery than they could have predicted, Blue knows she must protect both her Vemreaux family and her Wayward family, no matter the cost.
USA Today bestselling author Mary E. Twomey lives in Michigan with her three adorable children. She enjoys reading, writing, vegetarian cooking, and telling her children fantastic stories about wombats.
While she loves writing fantasy, dystopian, and paranormal tales for her readers, Mary also writes romance under the name Tuesday Embers.
I'm not sure what to say. There's a lot to say or I could say very little. It's a good sign when the reader comes away from the story with lots of thoughts and feelings rather than none. The Vemreaux series is an epic fairy tale. The scope of the world, characters and politics is done on an epic scale. The rest is a fairy tale.
The world was torn by war and comes back together in a strict caste system dictated by blood type. B blood types are the rulers and able to partake of a transformation that makes them stronger, live longer and crave blood. The Waywards, A and O blood type are enslaved, grunt work force and the O are cattle to be drained for B's thirst.
A prophecy proclaims that a Wayward will be the Light that will put an end to tyranny. One that will make the ultimate sacrifice. Three siblings with incredible strength, intelligence and untapped abilities are born in the Americas Wayward facility. Something is killing the Vemreaux. The Light goes on the hunt to find the danger to the B bloods and end the tyranny.
This is not a series you can read from any point. To really appreciate it, you should start from the beginning. I wish that it was four to five because there are parts of the story that are told to you as a lump summary, and I would have preferred to have experienced through the characters.
Frankly, I didn't care for most of the Lie. Too much of the same kind of interactions happened in the same phrasing back to back. 2/3 of that writing did nothing for the story except hammer in details that you already know. Then, I hit a scene that I absolutely loved.
Blue comes across the Christmas gift she had made for Sam. The rule for Christmas presents was that it had to be something that you made or can do for yourself. The gift is a drawing collection of Blue's memories as she grew up and she added Sam into her memories. This part was perfect. A great example of Twomey's creativity and the heart of the characters.
The prophecy and the main plot points hold no water for me, but I'm going to let it all go because this series is an epic fairy tale. Fairy tales don't have to make total sense. Twomey totally sold me on the characters. I do love them. I love the Waywards, the royals and guards. Most of the psychological elements of the characters were really well done. I wanted more world building because the world itself was really interesting. I wanted more about the Anders siblings because they were the heart of the story.
The story ends happily ever after. Just the way a fairy tale should end.
The dystopian genre is not a favorite of mine but the premis of a world separated by blood type was too intriguing to pass up. I was not disappointed. The world was interesting but what really made these books were the characters. Both the main and secondary characters were fully fleshed out and felt realistic. They were flawed but relatable within the context of their back stories. I would have liked a little more clarity with some aspects of the plot but I still consider the overall series a 5 star read. It is rare that a book can keep me so entertained so to be hooked for all three is something. This was my first experience with this author but it won't be my last.
I have enjoyed this series, for the most part. Some was a little difficult to read. Because you really feel everything, good and bad. This book was a very good addition to the series. You got answers and closure. The characters in these stories are fleshed out so well. I really like them, Blue and Sam... The authors humor is delightful. Don’t know how I haven’t found her before now.
So if you have made it to the last book, you are gonna love it. The only thing I wish for in this book despite all of the revelations, is the mistreatment of Blue. I understand why, but some of it just seemed harsh. I enjoyed the whole series immensely, especially since I went into it without really knowing the premises of the book. All I can say is that you will like the ending.
Maybe I am weird but I loved this series. I laughed and cried and felt everything the characters felt. Maybe it’s because I have been in a few of those positions such as not being able to look myself in the mirror and self harm and anxiety all in the name of perfection. Gonna buy the actual hard copies and pray someone will make these in to a couple of movies or series! I would totally watch!
HEA, feel-good ending for the characters, who were easy to love. But, I was left feeling like some major plot points weren’t wrapped up satisfactorily (same feeling I had at the end of the Divergent trilogy).
It’s obvious looking back that the author planted hints for the twists the plot took, so the odd changes were intentional... but they either didn’t fit or weren’t explained well.
I think this author has some promise after some more experience. This series had inconsistencies and sudden changes in the plot that left it undeveloped. The ending did wrap up everything as much as I wanted but didn’t leave any major cliffhangers.
Second time around I had to drop the star rating from a 4 to 3. The story is pretty boring for more than half of the book but also, the series never gives you a clear cut image of the world these people are living in or of why things are the way the are. However I will always love this series because these CHARACTERS are some of the best and most intricate I have ever come across in a book or book series.
This and the Truth took me a total of two days to read, together. I couldn't stop reading once I got into it. These answered a few of the questions I had after starting the series. I was in love with the characters, even though they all had their own flaws. No novel is perfect but I thoroughly enjoyed these reads.
Although this book won't be everyone, it's the best SF series (trilogy) I've read in a long time. Almost everything is finally resolved in this book (except for the reason three such special children were born). It didn't end abruptly like so many books do but wasn't drawn out either. Love, love, loved it!
The 3rd book was a good concluding book. The adventure was great and ended well. The very end seem like a very rushed ramble to wrap up the end of the stories after the end. Which is great if you are someone that needs to know what happened after the end of the completion of a story. The author did a great job. Well done. Put this on your must read list.
BrilliantBrilliant BRILLIANT ending to this masterful series! Oh my gosh I am so full of wonderment right now! This trilogy broke all of my feels and patched them together again. I may not know just what the characters look like or sound like, but I connected wth every one of them on a deeply emotional level, I know unmistakably what they FELT like. Wonderful!!
I really enjoyed this series. There were lots of slow parts that didn't advance the plot, but actually made the whole thing more enjoyable, and the people more real.
Nothing makes me more angry than when an author makes you understand, empathize, and relate to the bad guy. Rude. I hate when that happens. And by hate I mean I love it "so much. so much..."
Like the second book, this one has a few more errors than the first, but it is still just as emotion filled and action packed. Also, just like the second book, she kept you on your toes and asking questions. It was the perfect, and unpredictable ending. I am very happy with my purchase!
I liked it, not may favorite out the series but I liked it. Many ups in this one, not so many downs. No climaxes in the story but all in all a good read. I thought there would be more to the Tyranny. It was such a HUGE devastation and I thought there would be more fight from the evil with all that was led up to it. Happy that the Waywards (old and new) got the lives they've always wanted.
