Sin City Mafia #2

Ruthless Little Games

Rate this book
My older sister ran away from home to avoid being forced into an arranged marriage with the mafia family blamed for her mother’s death. Now that burden has fallen to me.

Eighteen and sheltered, my life has only ever revolved around the familiar comfort of the tennis court. I’ve always been shielded from the brutal realities of my father’s world, protected from his enemies. Enemies like Lochlan Dunne, who my father now wants as an ally.

Lochlan is a ruthless businessman everyone fears. His family’s wealth was built on the flesh trade. One he has been rumored to frequently enjoy, making us complete opposites. I’m so inexperienced that just being alone in the same room with the gorgeous tyrant terrifies me.

My terror only turns him on. In fact, Lochlan can’t even wait until our wedding night to claim my innocence in the most ruthless way.

I love provoking him and hate how badly I want to surrender to him, but I can’t risk falling for a man who’ll only hurt me. That’s why I give him an ultimatum before we say our vows: Be faithful to me or I’ll never share his bed or my body with him again.

Lochlan is too stubborn to cave to anyone’s demands. However, the longer I refuse him, the more desperate he becomes to have me.

Teasing and taunting him during our tumultuous honeymoon period is all fun and games until someone in his inner circle tries to kill me.

This is a Dark Mafia Romance, and this is the second book in the Sin City Mafia series. This type of book is not for everyone, and there are things in it that could trigger a reader. I have read the first book in this series before picking up this book. I think you really need to read the first book in this series before picking up this book because there is so much in this book tied to events that happen in the first book. I was pulled into this book right away, and I did not want to put this book down. I did not guess who was behind all the stuff going on, but that did not take away for me enjoying all the reveals. This book is full of action and drama. There are also a good amount of steamy times and emotional times in this book. I really loved reading this book. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

I knew I loved it when a man gets on his knees because he messed up, but I didn’t know I also loved it when he bends over and takes his spankings like a good boy 🤭

MAIN CHARACTER NAMES AND AGES
Sophie Salvato (18) | Lachlan Dunne (26)

FEATURES
∘ mafia romance
∘ arranged/forced marriage
∘ (one-sided) dislike to lovers
∘ difficultly pleasing wife
∘ BDSM
∘ when she says, “daddy”, both her father and husband respond, not knowing which she’s talking to (very minor and brief inclusion of daddy kink)

REVIEW
I’m not usually into mafia romance books that put so much of an emphasis on the D/s dynamic (not here to squick anyone’s ick—I have been known to enjoy a few!), but I think this one worked for me because Lochlan was so pathetically obsessed with Sophie to the point of whining about her not wanting him. He only took when she chose to give—or when she allowed him take. It won’t be for everyone, and as always, check content warnings.

Sophie had so much backbone, even in her initial fear. She told Lochlan how their arranged marriage was going to be, and Lochlan told Sophie how it was going to be. Even through his grumblings, threats, and spoiling, what Sophie said is how it went. Lochlan was not a pushover by any means, but for his wife, he was willing to be pushed.

The angst from Lochlan’s refusal to verbalize and reassure his commitment made me annoyed with HIM, yet none of that annoyance seeped into my enjoyment of the book. I understood why both of them struggled to trust the other, and I loved that as a reader, we knew both of them were being truthful.

I wish there had been a bit more momentum in the secondary plot—finding the person who planted the bomb (we know who set it up, as it happened in Savage Little Games). It dangled throughout the novel with little progression until the end. I was enjoying the development of the romance, but the external plot could’ve strengthened it even more.

It’s a minor complaint because this book was an all-around captivating experience. This is only my second book by the author, and both times, I’ve struggled to stop reading. I don’t know what Lane Hart is putting in this series, but I’m here for it. I WILL be reading book three, thank you.

OW/OM DRAMA OW — Lachlan runs brothels and slept around before Sophie; Sophie is concerned he is cheating with a specific woman and is set up to believe he was ||
CHEATING none — Lachlan does watch his best friend get pleasured by one of the girls at the brothel—the same woman as above—but there’s no touching by or to him (even to himself)
THIRD ACT BREAKUP yes, a couple times — miscommunication and revealed secrets (that the reader already knows) causes strife and arguments that they work through
ENDING HEA — one year later epilogue

POV dual / first person

DNF at 14%. I should have followed my gut and stopped reading after the third chapter but I somehow thought this would get better, spoiler alert, it didn't. This MMC is a chauvinistic pig. Just to sum up how awful this was I'll leave a few quotes for you:

"What kind of asshole demands that a man hand over his sweet, probably innocent, teenage daughter so he can tie her up, and ruin her? Me. I’m the asshole." (This was a whole 26 year old fantasizing about an 18 year old girl)

"This might be the only chance I have to marry a woman who isn’t a literal gold-digging whore."

"I don’t know if it’s the fact that she’s so young and innocent or what, but goddamn I want to bury myself in her frozen, terrified body, to hear her scream for me while I make her mine." (At some point he literally said he would be down to force her to be with him even if she didn't want to)

“Oh, well, every time a man has sex, he will ejaculate at the conclusion in the form of a thick, milky substance called semen..." (How in the fuck am I supposed to believe an 18 year old girl doesn't know what semen is. And, apparently, after being this naive she will end up with a guy who can only have BDSM sex)

This was a highly enjoyable and great mafia romance with a lot of humor and emotions. It was a wild ride and I was glued to my kindle the whole afternoon.
Sophie and Lochlan push and pull at each other constantly. They have great tension and know how to push the buttons of each other. I liked the fact that Sophie stands her ground against Lochlan and he accepted her „No“. There was some miscommunication and a lot of banter between these two and I liked following their story. Lochlan falls hard and fast for Sophie but didn‘t speak about his feelings so he had his problems convincing her. I enjoyed their dynamic and how they still respect each other. The most important part: He fucking grovels and get‘s on his knees for his wife!!!
The plot was interesting and kinda funny because Dante (Sophie’s father) got a lot of shit from Lochlan it was hilarious.
All together a well done mafia romance.

It was ok. The plot was exciting, yet it was not a page turner for me. I was hoping for that slow burn, and even though it is put off, it didn't quite get there for me. I think because we hardly feel what the characters felt. They tell us their thoughts, but all the body responses are tied to their intimacy. There was no elaboration of how a look, an accidental touch, an encounter between them, etc. Made them feel butterflies in their stomach or whatever magic words writers use to show us their characters are deeply in love. Here, any touch is immediately linked to thoughts of intimacy. While I have nothing against steamy books, I also enjoy seeing how the characters in a book experience falling in love.

This was an ok read for me. Sophie and Loch had chemistry but over all the story was lacking for me. Once again, like the first book, Sophie will let Loch basically do anything he wants to her sexually except she won't have intercourse with him. Her justification is that she won't do it until he says he'll be faithful, but she's fine if he were to be cheating and then still giving orgasms using his mouth and fingers. Then, even when he says he will be faithful, she's holding out for a different reason. The back and forth between them being happy and at each others throats was giving me whiplash. The best thing about this book is Dante's interactions with Loch, and when Sophie says "Daddy" and both Dante and Loch respond! Loved seeing Vanessa and her protectiveness for Sophie. Cass is a bitch and I really wanted Sophie to stand up to her and call her out on her bullshit - she did kind of, but it was not enough. I don't want to reach Cassandra's book at all to be honest. Might just wait for the older sister to come back before I read the series again.

This is Book 2 in Sin City Mafia and is a stand-alone. Wow! What a wild, kinky, roller-coaster ride of drama, lies and Mafia betrayal and twists and turns with a OTT possessive, hot alpha male lead and a surprisingly strong kick- butt innocent female lead with a strong storyline that is so well written you feel like a fly on the wall.
This book and series is a definite Must Read for Mafia fans!!.

It's finally happened.
After having read over a thousand books, I've finally stumbled upon one that I would rate ZERO stars.
I didn't think I'd ever dislike a book this much, but, man, did this one check all the wrong boxes.

The characters were all unlikeable and awful. The plot was very predictable from the start. There was nothing of interest to keep the reader hooked.
Plus, the blatant misogyny every other page in the first half of the book was infuriating, to say the least.

This is the second book in the Sin City Mafia series. MC's h. Sofia Salvato, 3rd daughter of Dante Salvato Mafia boss and H. Lochlan Dunne, rival Mob Boss, seal the deal to an arranged marriage which will benefit both father and son in law. Lochlan is to be the heir of Salvato's organization benfiting him financially and a baby would seal the deal. Lochlan's charity benefit was bombed and many famous celebrity's were killed. He is being sued for the loss of lives at the event even though he didn't bomb the place himself. It could cost him $400,000,000 which will wipe him out financially. If he makes Sofia happy and he becomes Dante's heir then he won't be short of funds. Dante will receive protection from Law Enforcement with Lochlan's connections (being able to blackmail officials with dirty little sexual secrets).

Sofia has always been a compliant daughter and does what her father wants, but she has a secret craving to do naughty and dangerous things. No one knows but her and her soon to be husband Lochlan. After Madison runs and away from home to avoid marrying Lochlan months ago, he did his research and decided Sofia the Princess tennis player was for him. At first he thought it was just lust for a young princess virgin and teaching her all his BDSM kinks. He found her on her bachelorette party with another man and beat him up stabbing his hand with a knife. He has sex with her right in front of the downed man. She is thinking about whether she wants to marry him or not the next morning when he comes in to ask her, then convinces her by eating her out. She marries him. He gives her a beautiful tennis bracelet with 5 large diamonds in it and a wedding band. He even builds a tennis court for her. Once they are married she informs him she will not be sleeping with him because he didn't use a condom and he didn't agree to not sleep with other women. This continues until there are drones with bombs on his property. Sofia was protected by her two female bodyguards and Lochlan rushes home to get her and they flee to a safe place. She agrees to not tell her father Dante Salvato. She still hasn't had her period yet. Is she pregnant with Lochlan's child? Lochlan realizes he is in love with his wife but hasn't proclaimed his feelings yet. He still doesn't want to share them yet with Sofia, his princess.
Sofia doesn't want to be a broodmare and the ticket for Lochlan to run his organization and Salvato's too. Sofia's only benefit would be if her husband was exclusively hers and he let her have some time before they started a family. She is holding out for what she wants. You have to admire her for that. He respects her request but hasn't accepted her terms yet. Who will cave first? Sofia or Lochlan?

Part of the Sin City Mafia series an arranged marriage something neither of them want make sure to double check that you are buckled up, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love along the way. Lochlan sexy as all get out dangerous, ruthless on a good day, deadly on everyday is forced to enter a marriage any marriage to a girl who will help his reputation especially after his hotel was bombed killing several people but when the girl runs to get far away from him, he decides her barley than old enough sister will serve the purpose. Sophie is sweet raised in a gilded cage kept from her father’s dealings she is allowed to play tennis but dreams of so much more scared of the man she is forced to marry but discovering along the way she isn’t going to be a door mate so to speak although, she did whine a lot but I also had to remember she was barley 18 so in her defense she is still very young and but she held her own for the most part but did their but they will need to work together to keep danger at bay, will he get her to love him, is she cable of loving him, and where are they headed hopefully to something more than forced marriage?

this book pissed me off

I kept reading just so i can get to the good part and it never came 🙂

First of all lochlan pissed me off like bro take a chill pill and listen to the fucking woman 💀 it literally took him half of the book to be like oh shit this was what she meant 💀 and wtf is wrong with him like mf just say something he is just another reason why i hate men 💀 i tried to like him but i just cant and btw whatever shit he was pulling was not BDSM that just screamed captive. Sophie pissed me off as well like gurl you were going strong on your man not being faithful and do a whole 180 out of nowhere like wtf 💀💀 she had a backbone but she didnt use it well. She should’ve taken the fucking plan b when she saw it why wait?? For what?? God pissed me off fr

honestly they dont have chemistry at all imo i was hoping for a character growth and change never got that. Dante and Vanessa had more chemistry than lochlan and sophie. I love me a good forbidden age gape romance and this is the first book that made me feel icky to be reading age gape romance and him tryna breed her the whole time she was like no felt icky as well. The bomb plot was meh did nothing boring. Dont read this if you dont wanna be pissed.

what a man!!!

Lochlan isn’t your typical mafia man. Okay, he is but hear me out! He has an arranged marriage set up with one of Dante’s (from book one) daughters. She’s not feasible anymore so he picks another, Sophie. Immediately he is obsessed with her. He goes above and beyond to tease and seduce her. I loved him.

Sophie was also a great character! She was a virgin (which I don’t always love) but she was willing to learn and explore her kinks with him. I would say she falls under the “free use” title.

Their push and pull was fantastic. I found myself angry with and for her several times. Lochlan made mistakes but some were just simple miscommunication that we as the reader know and have to suffer through. End of the book though was wrapped up beautifully and I couldn’t be happier with their story line.

Lane Hart never disappoints. I have been so excited for this book to come since reading the first and it was better than I expected. I haven’t laughed so hard in a book maybe ever but it was everything a dark romance needed to be at the same time. A possessive, alpha MMC is my weakness, but mix that with an FMC who doesn’t give in right away and I’m obsessed. Absolute perfection. Im already impatient for book 3

First comes love, then comes marriage. Right? Not the case for Lochlan and Sophie. Lochlan, reeling after an unknown bomber killed and injured visitors at his casino, needs to spruce up his image. What better option then marrying a virginal overly protected daughter of a fellow mafia boss? Sophie, a sheltered mafia princess is a perfect match.

This arranged marriage is full of anger, hatred, and jealousy; but there's always a thin line between love and hate.

I was hooked on this book. The character development was amazing and drew you in. Full of twists and turns, love and hate, and off the charts chemistry. Both MMC and FMC complimented each other in the most opposite way imaginable, but that's what pulls the reader in. Their love for each other is what seals the deal and provides for an amazing HEA.

Ruthless Little Games is a total page turner! Angsty, hot, and absolutely captivating! I'm a sucker for a possessive alpha MMC, but Sophie? Sophie was a breath of fresh air for me. She wasn't one to be pushed around, arranged marriage or not. Lochlan & Sophie definitely challenged each other, and I was here for all of it!

I read this as a standalone, but I'm definitely going back to read book one! I'm hooked!.

I’m really liking this series. Ruthless Little Games is the second in the series so be sure to start with the first book that is equally good. If you like an alpha hero and his girl that stands up for herself and brings this alpha to his knees you’ll love this duo.

I don't know where to start with this book. A lot was going on. Lochlan was a complete mess he wanted people to what he wanted but wasn't giving anything back. He wanted Sophie to stay with him at all cost but he was giving her no reason to stay. Sophie mostly let him do what he wanted because in her mind it was new and exciting because her dad kept her in the house doing nothing but tennis. His past really messed him up, he wants love so bad but afraid to give it. I did like that she tried to stand up for herself and hold sex from his ass. It was a good twist with the bomber. I thought it was a good read and was interesting.

Bot amazing but quite an entertaining mafia read. Some of the main plot points could have been fleshed out better like the villain for example, more details around that would have been better.

POV: Dual, 1st person.
SERIES or STANDALONE: 2nd in series, can be read as a standalone.
TROPES: M/F adult, age gap, mafia, sort of enemies to lovers, arranged marriage romance.
SIZE: 380 (last page) Kindle pages.
CHARACTERS: Lochlan (26) & Sophie (18)

PLOT: 3.5 📚
ROMANCE: 4 ❤️
SPICE/STEAM: 3 🌶 (very minor daddy talk)
DARKNESS/TRIGGERS: 1 😈 (death, perceived cheating, violence, talk of past assult)

⚠️ My bookshelves can contain spoilers.

I'll start by saying, I'm a girls girl in real life only. That being said, Sophie was too immature for that man, and her feelings only changed in life or death situation. I was expecting a better character development. I had to keep reminding myself that she's 18 and was completely sheltered when she would say or do something I thought was dumb.

Let’s start with how much I loved Lochlan! Ugh! This man! He gets a spot on the book boyfriend shelf for sure! He was stubborn as all hell but he was also very much obsessed! Dirty mouth. Daddy Dom with the cuffs included!

I don’t usually love to read D/s with FMCs that are this young but I didn’t hate Sophie! I could totally relate to her struggles and how much she was dealing with in such a short time.

A fair bit of BDSM in this book which was… So, so hot 🥵 but this book was not all smut! Both characters had their own personal growth to tackle in this one and I like being a part of it!

I would recommend this one to my dark romance lovers especially if you like power play! Though I hated Cass in this book, I’m ready to see her and Cole have it out!

This book was amazing. The MMC is a bit something else but in a good way. Snow White is a little bit crazy but just the right amount of crazy to match him. The twist in this book had me in a chokehold. The kn**e play is so amazingly written. As a disclaimer, you do not need to read the first book to read this one. I started with this one, now about to read book 1.

Welcome back to Las Vegas and the dark chaos that ensues.

Ruthless Little Games brings readers back into the world of the Italian and Irish mafia with an arranged marriage with a twist. Lochlan Dunne is supposed to marry the eldest Salvato daughter, but when she runs away her little sister Sophie takes her place. This is an age gap with a morally grey hero who is OTT when it comes to Sophie. Lochlan is a 26 year old mafia boss while Sophie is an 18 year old sheltered mafia princess. But what follows is a twisting, rollercoaster of unexpected delight.

Sophie is so much more than you think, and Lochlan is a man that has more depth than he portrays. Their relationship is not without complications, but they each hold one another accountable for their actions as well as their reactions. Told in dual first person POV, readers get a deep dive into both Sophie and Lochlan's feelings, emotions, and thoughts. Lane Hart has created an extremely dynamic world and character basis that reader's won't want to put the book down.

"An unknown future with a stranger is bound to be more exciting than my current one. I think I would agree based on that selfish desire alone. Being someone’s wife, having the sole attention of a doting husband could be nice too."

Ruthless Little Games is ride of innocence lost, strength gained, and love created. Check content and trigger warnings, because this book isn't without those. But enjoy the dynamic and exhilarating world of the Las Vegas Mafia.

Ruthless Little Games is an mafia romance featuring an age gap, arranged marriage, and a long list of potential triggers that Lane so thoughtfully puts at the beginning of the book. Lochlan needs to marry quick to change his public image after a bombing at one of his hotels kills several celebrities. The girl he was originally supposed to marry took off to avoid him and so he's decided that he'll marry her youngest sister, Sophie, instead.

What ensues is a whole lot of hate to love you and love to hate you. I love Lochlan and Sophie as a couple. They clearly challenge each other, especially because Sophie is really young and immature. I could have used a little more character development from both of them since they're both a little closed off and flighty, but they come around in the end. The spice was fantastic but definitely check those trigger warning first to make sure it's your thing.

This is the second book in a series but it can be read as a stand alone, which is how I read it. The author does a good job of filling you in on anything you may have missed in the previous book so it didn't negatively impact my journey through the story. I am definitely going to seek out the first book after having enjoyed this one as much as I did and I'm very excited to see what's to come in book three!
