This book is a very succinct one on improving egg health for fertility, especially in women who are over 35. I have spent hundreds of hours researching fertility over the past 5+ years and really enjoy reading related studies and books. Lately, I have taken to reading the information that is out there for others in easy to obtain books. Compared to many others that I have read, this book was informative and well written. It had higher quality information, cited sources, and was written in a manner that was simple to understand. I didn't learn anything new, but I am sure that many might if they have not researched the topic in depth. I prefer more scientific details, but I think for the average reader it is perfect since the author really simplifies everything.
I had a few caveats with the information in the book that I think are worth noting. First of all, the author is not a fan of tracking BBT and therefore recommends not using it as well as failing to give any additional information on it. BBT tracking is such an important part of TTC that I was a bit blindsided by this. The author found it to be too tedious or hard to do, but ironically, BBT charting is much "easier" than being pregnant or raising children and very worthwhile. You can have a positive OPKs, copious amounts of EWCM, and have every sign of ovulating and still NOT ovulate, but one may never know, without additional blood tests, if they are not tracking BBT to confirm a sustained temperature shift. The book would have benefited from her further researching it and including the info, even if she personally did not care to take the time to do it. The second thing that bothered me was lesser in comparison. She stresses the importance of folic acid, as most fertility books do, but she says nothing of folate, the more bioactive form. Since nearly half of the population has some MTHFR mutation and benefit much more from taking folate than folic acid, I was disappointed that she did not even mention it. I don't even have the mutation, but I know it is very common and many women need the folate form to truly be beneficial. She also asks the reader to review her book at the beginning, middle, and end, which was kind of annoying and overkill in my opinion.
Despite the issues I had with the it, I think it would be a great resource for those who are new to learning about fertility and would like to self educate themselves on the journey! It was refreshing to see that she had extensively researched the topic and cited reputable sources as opposed to speculation and hearsay, which find their way into many books on the subject.
This is a quick easy read a few simple suggestions that seem like they should be effective. It's feels drawn out more than necessary to convey the results of the authors extensive research. Nonetheless it is very inspiring to get healthy for getting a baby. The authors voice feels like a friend who understands your woes, which we all know we need if we've been TTC for a while.
A good jumping point but nothing I would take as bible and not do more research on, does have lengthy reference page to look into scientific info provided in the book. Written by a German scientist, easy and quick to read, more geared toward women 35 & over. One annoyance- I got this to read from kindle unlimited and it is self-pubbed, which is fine, but the author tries to solicit amazon reviews several times during the book which I think distracts from the credibility of the information.
An important book for any woman who's TTC or hoping to in the near future. I loved that her suggestions were backed up with actual evidence from medical journals. Got a few things I'm going to add to my routine.
I recommend reading this book. It helps you be aware of egg health, gives you advice on things to take and help you and it was very easy to understand. She really did well, thank you for writing this book!
It is one of the most practical guide and I really enjoyed reading it because she described evidence-based medicine. I would definitely recommend my friends in 30s who want to have children.
Informative and sobering. If you are struggling with infertility and not ready to give up, this book will give you a small hope that there are some things you can do to give yourself the best chances possible. It is written with "older" women in mind (+35) in mind, but also gives good advice to younger women trying to conceive. She explains the science in very easy simple terms and tries to link her suggestions for diet and supplements with research findings. I wouldn't recommend this book, it you are in a stage where you need to consider the reality that having children is not meant to be a part of your future.
This is a brilliant book for any one wanting to get pregnant, whether you are over 35 years old or not. Darja Wagner doesn't just give you facts about medical ways too increase your chances of conceiving she gives real suggests on how to change your lifestyle, and the reasons behind why these ideas work. Plus she writes in a way that makes everything plain and simple, no more wading through medical journals and jargon that mean little if you don't have a medical degree. Darja has done the hard work to break down all the information into the parts your NEED to know, and made them as easy to understand as possible. Don't stand by and just wait for your baby, make the effort in your life to give yourself the best chance of conceiving.
This was extremely helpful. I’m only 22 but I have had a few miscarriages with my husband. This book is very informative and from a science standpoint. I appreciate that. I really didn’t know that my diet affected my egg quality and possibly my future daughters if I was pregnant with one. I'm planning on switching my diet as soon as possible. We aren't planning to conceive for another 5-6 years so I am going to do everything I can do to keep my egg quality up. I know this book is meant for older woman but I think it’s a great book for anyone trying to get pregnant or planning on it in the future. 5/5
