A nice, brief little history of Arlington National Cemetery. I would've liked to see more focus on women buried there as well as other people of color because it was all very old white man-y, which is obviously to be expected since history is pretty much overrun and written by old white men. So I get why there isn't talk about anything else, but this book was published in 2009, so it's disappointing to see that there was absolutely no mention of any of the nurses' memorials and the little bits about people of color were minor compared to the rest of the book. Maybe I'm putting too many of my 2019 values on a book that's 10 years old, but there you go.
If you're looking for a very basic kind of CliffsNotes of Arlington's history and some important graves, then this is definitely worth a read! If you're looking for more of the hidden gems as well as some diverse stories, though, you're bound to be a little disappointed as I was.
