The fate of the Warhog Paladins rests in Mia Lark's hands.
Vowing to rebuild the guild from the ground up, Mia has taken on the daunting role of Guildmaster. However, as new recruits arrive, one immediately challenges her to a leadership fight, and doubts creep in. How can Mia determine if the rest are truly trustworthy?
Her enemies slap an injunction on the guild, stopping them from registering in the realm-wide quest. Success in the quest would be the first step toward restoring the guild's former glory. Mia has no choice but to embark on a race against time to find Abraham, the sole surviving guild member, to prove the guild remained active. As tensions increase, a teammate is poisoned in the guildhall under suspicious circumstances.
With the lives of her friends and guildmates hanging in the balance, Mia must locate Abraham and uncover the identity of the traitor before they strike again. Can she navigate this treacherous path and save her guild from destruction?
There are a few really cool things that I really enjoyed about this series.
1. It’s a bit nostalgic, in that we are reading about characters playing a game. 2. The game has stakes and consequences. 3. Not everything is at it seems and the world is being revealed in layers that keeps the reader engaged and entertained.
Decent story, but author avoids glaringly obvious fixes to problems
The main character can detect somebody telling a lie. She believes that she knows who the traitor is in her guild and who poisoned the food. Does she simply ask? No. Instead she has the artificial intelligence keep continuous watch on her suspect. Except while the suspect is putting more poison in the food because, of course, it is okay for your poison suspect to help the cook make supper. This was the last straw that caused me to give up and return this book. I couldn't take anymore stupidity from the main character who is supposed to be streetwise.
Book one was pretty good but def needed editing. Book 2 was more of the same issues and the very awkward writing on they/their him/he when talking about Masi. Just pick one way and stick with it. It’s jarring going back and forth even within the same paragraph. Just overall it’s a very jarring writing style
This series has been pretty enjoyable to read. The FMC has tried to stay out of the limelight and just keep her head down but the quest she found made that challenging as did the desire another player has for her helm. The FMC is strong and capable and while she is by no means OP she is resourceful and clever and quick on her feet which gives her an edge in the game. I do think it was foolish of her to allow someone they were suspicious of to stay as that definitely turned out quite disastrous. And I’m not happy they killed off one of her companions but I guess that happens in books. I was hopeful of some sort of romance between the FMC and the dead player but obviously that’s not happening.
I absolutely recommend reading this series. It is intense, fun, and adventurous.
