Not all Cougars are Alike

What? What. I'm speechless. It starts off great. Just what I wanted to read. A successful older woman (Pearl) who is looking for a good time. More power to her. Because of a mis-scheduling, she misses the talk she is supposed to go to in order to get an interview for a documentary for her work.

She ends up bumping into the person who she wanted to interview at the coffee shop across the street. Alexandre the French Programmer. Perfect.

That's literally how far it gets to before I had to stop and go what the fuck is going on????

????

If you're still following me, you have Pearl, an early forty year old documentary maker, bumping into an early 20s man who is a super genius from a social network programmer millionaire. Then she literally bombards him with questions. Like the whole time they chatted he did not freak out by all the questions. Does initial attraction toss out all alarm bells out the window? If this was the other way around, people would be asking questions and wondering if the man was a predator.

Like, what? So they fuck. She has her insecurities and boy, are there many. Like grow up, you're in your 40s, single, and independent. It's a little sad that you're not secured in yourself. I just rolled my eyes when she kept complaining about how she's super old and he will prefer someone younger or thinner or skinnier or whatever excuse she will come up to complain more. If you're a cougar, own up to it. Be brilliant, be awesome. if you can get this 20-something interested in you, you've done someone right. Why can't you embraced that you found someone younger that wants you because you are you? I can't believe that is literally the book. You might as well plop a mid-20s woman in the book and it would be better and less whining.

And there is 4 more books after this. FOUR. I've read bad fanfic that is better than this.

But he's not any better.

No thanks. Not my cup of tea. Not anywhere near good and engaging writing.

I give this one star for a fabulous name of the main female character Pearl (although who is bias?)

I really could not get into this one. A quick read, i give it that however, the book really does not finish..... perhaps encouragement to go and buy the second book??? No thanks. I will give that one a miss.

Relatable adventures

I enjoyed reading this book! Having a character who was a real woman was a refreshing change of pace! I can relate to the age difference between the two characters, and her dilemma!

Only OK

Some of the scenes were awkwardly written. It didn't really get good until the last chapter. However, it is a pretty fast read if you're looking for something easy.

Pearl Robinson, is a documentary producer who is sent to get an interview from Alexandre Chevalier, a young French, Internet billionaire who is giving a talk on his company. She was meant to convince him and his sister to let her make a programme about them but ended up arriving late and missing the talk.

However on her way back to the office Pearl bumps into Alexandre in a coffee shop but instead of a nerdy computer geek she gets up close and personal with a sexy confident French man. After a bit of flirting the two sit down for coffee and a chat and end up arranging to go out on a date. She likes him but he's a gorgeous young and successful businessman while she's forty, divorced and single and hasn't even had a date for over two years. The two begin a passionate affair but lies and jealousy get in the way.

This could have been done so much better and the immaturity of the main character Pearl started to get on my nerves straight away.
She's 40 years old yet acts like a teenager, the words she uses to describe sex are words a 14 year old would use. I just didn't like Perl and the more I read the more I disliked her. Her constant bellyaching about how she was 40 and Alexandre was too young for her became irritating too. Instead of just enjoying the attentions of this guy her inner monologue kept on whinging about it. It become tiresome.

There were a lot of clichés in this and I found it annoying. Alexandre was the stereotypical idea of a French man. I also found him contradictory too as he started out saying he liked older women and not girls but towards the end he would talk to Pearl as though she was a little girl and actually called her little girl on several occasions . The story was very predictable and I figured out the ending way before it finished. Although I didn't think it would end so abruptly. Some of the sex scenes were good but the language used spoilt it. This is meant to be erotica and it annoys the hell out of me when I come across books like this where body parts are called childish names like "One eyed Jack" and "V8". Pearls words not mine!

I rate this 4 out of 10 Nothing special Wish I'd had a shower instead. I don't think I'll be continuing the series. This will appeal to a lot of people and as I said before some of the sex scenes are very hot but it's just not for me.

This story was so bad that I don't even know how to start. It had left me speechless with its stupidity. And make no mistake about it being stupid because that is my only impression of the story as a whole. The story completely revolves around this 40 year old divorcee who can't accept that she isn't 18 anymore. The female lead, also in an attempt to feel 18 again, gloms onto this 25 year old guy and she tries to dry hump him any chance she gets whether or not he is willing. She is so obsessed with her age that most of the story is about her talking about her beauty routine and fishing for compliments from people around her by saying that she looks really old and ugly. Which of course the people she is saying this to have to say something against it because otherwise they would be rude in agreeing. The only character in this story that I even mildly liked was the female lead's gay brother because he told his sister the truth. (The other characters were very hateful toward him for it.) Her brother said that she is getting older and needs to accept that that is a fact she can't change and dying her hair every week or so to hide the gray hair isn't going to mask everything. Hey brother also tells her to stop preying on young men that could be her son and to act her own age instead of like the little kid sheer is pretending to be. There is this one line at the end of the book that I feel describes the story perfectly. That line comes when the characters are having an argument and the male lead says, "What are you ten? Because that is what you are acting like." The female lead acts like a child for most of the story while telling herself and everyone around her that she is quite mature and sophisticated. All in all, don't waste your time or money on this story because it is precious time that you will never get back. And believe me when I say that you will wish you could get that wasted time back. I know I do.

HOOKED!!! So glad it was free!!!

Alexandre is amazeballs - clearly a little damaged yet so amazingly amazing - love him!!! He is young but over the top intellegent. He knows so much and can hold his own wiht the best of the best yet can coem down to the lowest levels and still be charming and lovely.

And Ms. Pearl... she is a wonder storng women yet for soem reason lets her brother shit all over her. He is clearly misereable and you know aht thye say about misery... Anyway Pearl is great and strong, she is kind yet stands her ground, she is loving and nuturing. They are pretty great together.

So if you do not like the younger man old woman story, then this is not for you. BUT and I mean a huge but here, I have to say age is nothing but a number because seriously Alexandre comes across as the oldest and Pearl is more free spirited and fun, younger acting. I think they are a great balance, work so well together - I cannot wait to get into this series more - I am so hooked like 120% hooked!!!

Great start to what I can only foresee as an amazing series!!!

Book Review: A Taste of Pearl (The Pearl Series)
By: Arianne Richmonde

A sexy adventurous book series. This book is a great introduction to ”The Pearl book series”. I recommend this book to help you begin the book series. I find this book entertaining, inspiring, and motivational. I really enjoy the unique style of dialogue Arianne Richmonde, the author displays. The story plot and details are captivating. This book helps you escape to the characters reality.

I must warn you, there are some detailed love making scenes and curse words in this book. If you are okay with that, you will love everything about the book. The ending is shocking, leaving you wanting to read more.

FSoG with more metaphors. Seriously, WAY more metaphors. I wasn't 10% in before I was tired of the writer's style. Being a 40ish American divorcée having THE best sex of my life with a European lover, I didn't have a problem with the plot but I thought it was poorly executed. The sex scenes were repetitive and her self-loathing was deplorable. Yes, of course she's a perfectly proportional hot blonde (worn long, natch) blue-eyed with perky full breasts at 40 who has no idea she's attractive. Why not? Oh and he has a huge cock and perfectly sculpted abs! How surprising! Both accomplished, both intelligent, both with a sad backstory... trite, overdone, and without redeeming qualities. I think I'd rather read Twilight.

A Taste of Pearl, is the prelude to the Pearl trilogy. Its another series that been recommended if you loved Fifty Shades or Bared to You, yet with a twist! Here the two main players are Pearl Robinson a documentary producer who is forty and Alexandre Chevalier a young French internet billionaire in his mid-twenties who meet on rainy summer day after Pearl misses her chance at a convention for setting up an interview with Chevalier and his sister... Surprise they begin a passionate affair, that comes to a halt after some secrets are reveled that Pearl held back from Alexandre after a delicious night of passion between them.... Yes, I am looking forward to continuing this series to find out if their once in a lifetime connection surpass all that is bound to befall Pearl and Alexandre!

Not the real thing....

I didn't realize that this was only the first 9 chapters of A Shade of Pearl...which explains the completely abrupt ending. I liked the premise of the story with Pearl being an older woman. At times I found her difficult to relate to based on the depths of her insecurity especially after Alexandre had proven himself time and time again. it tended to take away from the fact that she was a mature woman and we might as well have been reading about an older man and younger woman based on how she behaved at times. Reading the reviews for the actual series turned me off from continuing this journey.

Pearl is film producer but she was rushing to a convention to listing to the creators of Hookedup. But it was raining so she arrived too late. She was hoping to talk to Sophie and Alexandre about a documentary. So instead a for a coffee across the street. But fate steps in and who should be standing in line are just the people she wanted to approach but she doesn't. The sister leaves but Alexandre asks if she would like to sit. She does and feels an attraction towards him but he is 25 and she just turned 40. No way could he be interested in her.

OK. I am not even sure how to describe this book. Boring, Hot Mess comes to mind. It started off not bad, I was intrigued. It got steadily worse with every page after the first chapter. The characters were underdeveloped, the story was unbelievable, the sex scenes were not very sexy (who in their right mind calls a clitoris an oyster). This could have been so hot, who doesn't love a sexy frenchman, but it fell so so so short for me. You get what you pay for which was nothing because this was a free amazon read. Will not be reading the second book.

The blurb on the back intrigued me. While I was not a huge 50 Shades fan I read them all and enjoyed them. I was hoping for some light entertainment, and I like to read what is new and trendy. I do not see this get togas big nor as popular. It was far more tame in my opinion, but also a little more reality based. No expensive red rooms. No ridiculous obsessions. Still jumping that quickly into a sexual relationship always unnerves me, no matter how many romance or erotica books I read. An older woman younger man did put an interesting spin on things.

This didn't do a whole lot for me. I couldn't connect with the characters, a 40 year old divorced woman and a 25 year old French software developer billionaire. I found her to be a bit annoying, and he was just okay. The plot was predictable, so nothing to grab hold of there. On top of that, the writing style didn't work for me. He's French - I get it. But after the first one or two times that Pearl reflects on his pronunciation (and how wonderful it is), it interrupted the reading more than enhanced it. No, this one didn't do it for me.

From what I read, this was ok. I don't really know if I'll continue the series. I'm on the fence with this one. It was very wordy and the conversations between Pearl and Alexandre were quite embarrassing at times. They made me cringe. Too much dialogue that could have been cut out I think. I just don't understand why she didn't tell him who she is and what she does. He didn't seem to mind and she was just too busy trying to be someone or something she wasn't.

Gives you the beginning of the first book in this series. Which, I hate not getting the entire story so I bought the 3 book series so I could finish.

Very similar to 50 Shades with the erotica. Makes the books very quick to read because you can skim those parts to find out what actually happens in the story.

Kind of a hooky storyline and totally unrealistic, but I didn't feel like reading anything that required me to think too much...or remember a storyline for book club. :)

This was a great read :) I don't typically read stories where the heroine is older than the hero. In society, usually the man is older and more experienced, so it was a nice twist to see the opposite happening. Alexandre is rich, handsome, and has a celeb worthy status. Pearl is a sassy and quirky woman. Although there is drama along the way, but it's a good journey. The passion between the couple was perfect for me, not too much and not too little.

Pearl a divorce, forty year old documentary produce tries to talk to Alexandre and his sister Sophie about their social media, HookedUp, but misses them. Then happens to bump into them when she goes to get coffee. She finds out that the billionaire she thought to be a geek is actually is charming and fun and makes her feel things that she shouldn't since he is a lot younger than her but Pearl can't help her desires. This wasn't a bad book even with the cougar thing going on.

Loved this book. I can't wait to read the series starting with Shades of Pearl. I love Alexandre's character. This author has a way of describing scenes that made me feel as if I was there. The sex in this book is sensual, hot and there is graphic dirty talk. Fast, easy read. Beware, this isn't a whole book but a lengthy excerpt.

It's ok. I'm not loving it. It started very slow. Pearl is a divorce 40 year old women. She was suppose to interview a 25 mature European hot sexy Axlexandre. The story has potential. I enjoyed the ended and then wanted to read more. I downloaded the sample for series 2 but debating if I will continue.

Sensual, romantic and filled with passion

What a great story! Filled with romantic and yet fun dialogue. Adventure and flirty filled talks and then wow! Mind blowing sex! The end left me crying on the inside to the point of downloading the next book in the series and hopes that the"misunderstanding" goes away and life and sex for the couple can resume.

A Taste of Pearl is a sampling of the first nine chapters in book one of The Pearl Series by Arianne Richmonde. Story is absolutely ridiculous. I find it hard to believe anyone would want to continue to suffer through more of Alexandre and Pearl in a series of 5 books. I may start a new shelf/tag just for this book: Cringe Worthy.
