Features detailed charts and patterns for twelve easy-to-knit sweaters, all made with a single simple shape and saddle-style method of construction, along with tips on variations, differing neckline treatments, different yarns, finishing details, colors, and more, with sizing that ranges from extra small to double XX Large. Original.
BOTTOM LINE: Good, albeit thin, book IF you can read charts easily, which I can't. The sizing is very generous, including lots of xxl sizes, and the patterns are very nicely illustrated, along with careful assembly instructions.
I liked most of the patterns in this book very much - they're simple designs with an elegant use of interesting stitches, and I would have loved to make several of them; needle sizes were mostly 6 and 8, which are my favorites. BUT, and it's a large "but...", for every pattern there is a chart, each with extremely small indicators of stitch change or color, totally impossible for me and likely many others, to read. Must admit that I totally hate using charts anyway, so perhaps I'm rather biased towards it, but I was very disappointed in this book. It would have benefitted hugely from having the stitch directions also included IN the pattern as is usually the case - none of them are here, not even the simple cables!
This guide contains some good information on shaping and designing. I prefer books about knitwear designed in the round, this author shows pieces knit flat. Machine knitters may enjoy the section in the back about adapting the designs to machine knitting. The designs themselves were very good.
