Don't let my three star rating stop you from reading this daily devotional if it sounds good to you. There isn't anything particularly wrong with it, but it just isn't making that much of an impact in my life. I read it and quickly forget it by the end of the day. I prefer a more life applicable story with my devotions because it helps me to remember what I read throughout the day.
First of all, to all my goodreads friends: "a happy and successful new year"..... You are all of you a bunch of awesome great guys!!!!
Let me say that being at goodreads has indeed revolutionize for the better all my reading habits..... And so, I'm really happy to be a part of this community of bookworms and genuine book addicted!!!!
I've discovered in this year exiting wonderful authors, and new unforgettable books.....
But lets get started!!!
"Praying God's Word" by Beth Moore has been my companion trough the whole year. Not a single day I've omitted from reading this devotional.
For every day you have a leading though by Beth Moore, and then a compilation of several Scriptures readings transform into prayers!!!!
Then the devotional itself is beautifully shaped, with colors and handsomely elaborated!!!
So, friends, I'm being really blessed by this devotional......
Full recommendation, and not for Christians only!!!!
Praying God's Word Day-By-Day is an excellent Scripture-focused devotional. It has a quick devotional thought at the top of the page followed by a prayer using Bible verses. Though the prayers won't always apply to you on that day (though most are general enough that they do), they are still wonderful reminders of God's faithfulness and power. I'd highly recommend this book to any Christian.
A great collection of day by day moments of faith and hope closely inspired by God's Word. Recommended for those who want to strengthen their faith and live boldly.
Dnf. Got up to March. There were some great prayers in here, and I can really see the value of praying the Scriptures. But there were too many instances where the author used verses out of context, and/or stitched verses together in a way that made no sense to me.
I read Praying God's Word in 2013, I enjoyed it very much. Every day in 2014 I read this devotional and Near to the Heart of God. It's theme: “Praying Scripture to Overcome Strongholds” (from the introduction). Some of the prayers are ok, some are GREAT... here is one of my favorites from the year...
“God does not love us less when he gives us fewer evidences. He simply desires to grow us up and teach us to walk by faith. Lord, according to Your Word, hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life (Prov. 13:12). Lord, You are keenly aware of any hope that have been deferred in my life. Help me to put my hopes in You, for You fulfill my longings. Wonderful Savior, You tell me that there is surely a future hope for me, and my hope will not be cut off (Prov. 23:18). When I hope in Your, Lord, I will renew my strength. I will soar on wings like eagles; I will run and not grow weary, I will walk and not be faint (Isa. 40:31). Lord, help me hear this word as one from You to me: “So there is hope for your future,” declares the Lord (Jer. 29:17). (pg 340)
Each day's brief reading begins with an encouraging inspiring thought. Following are two to three short paragraphs containing scriptures written in the form of prayers. The reader will be encouraged and uplifted each day as they read and pray God's word.
What an awesome year of devotions with prayers packed with scripture! I love Beth Moore and her love for and knowledge of scripture shows in her writings, as it does in this book.
Used this one together with Moore's Believing God Day by Day two years ago as my devotional, and man, it really bolstered my understanding and love for God's word.
This book helped boost my prayer life because it focused on praying Scripture. Got me out of a prayer rut. Looking forward to reading the Blue Book in 2017 and continuing to strengthen prayer life.
This book is a wonderful companion piece to accompany your Bible devotion time. The writing is deeply rooted in scripture with accompanying prayers. Beth has a strong voice as an experienced communicator of God’s word. I appreciate that this devotional was written “God” focused and not “Me” focused. I hear less of Beth, as a writer and more of the sacred text of scriptures in this book. My teenage daughter and I each had a copy and we enjoyed discussing our daily readings. If you are looking for something to set on your nightstand with your morning coffee or even on the bathroom counter as you do your daily routine- this book is solid. Many a mornings, as I flat ironed my hair, I would read and reread the prayers for the day. 5 STARS
This is the 2nd time I've read this book from cover to cover. I've referred back to it numerous times. I am so grateful for the work Moore has put into collecting scriptures for the areas many of us are struggling with. I find myself bolstered and refreshed by God's Word.
This is not a book for reading as much as it is a tool for praying and finding the truths of God's Word to break through the lies that build up strongholds in our lives and keep us from walking in victory. I read through the beginning of each chapter and the intro to this book. The rest were examples of taking scripture and turning it into prayer.
I like these short tidbits of faith interspersed with specific scripture to go with each days devotion. A way to keep myself in God’s word. In addition, not feeling overwhelmed by the vastness of the Bible. One aspect that is enjoyable is being able to refer back to the Bible verse represented in each daily devotion.
This book is a great reference book to deal with various problems we all endure at some point in life. I actually read through each chapter as a daily devotional, even though I wasn't addressing the chapter's issues currently in my life. I highlighted the verses that particularly spoke to me. I will definitely come back to this book often in future times.
Like any 365 day devotional book the excerpts were short and so it's not one that goes incredibly deep, but I find myself using Scripture in prayers more often just from starting my day with this book.
I always love the writing of Beth Moore. She has a way of simplifying concepts in easy to understand language while still including scripture. This a a great daily devotional that spoke to me in many ways...touching on what I needed each day.
