An ever-increasing number of people describe themselves as "spiritual, but not religious," yet exactly how that translates into an actual relationship with God and engagement in society remains unclear. After forty years as co-foundress and abbess of a monastic community and now living as a lay hermit in the desert, Tessa Bielecki presents Wild at Heart, the culmination of her life's journey as a "lover of God" in the tradition of the great Christian mystics. Listeners return to the wisdom of Christianity's Desert Mothers and Fathers to learn practical lessons on experiencing God's presence as a daily deepening, heart-to-heart relationship.
Interesting audiobook, has many good thoughts to think about and consider. I enjoyed it. The downside of downloading it, however, is you don't automatically have written down all the different books the author recommends to you and she has a ton of things to tell you about that also sound really good.
This may be my new favorite book, ever. An inspiring look at the mystics, not a group I would ordinarily think of as "Wild". That would be incorrect. Instead this shows the passion of those people, the thirst for life, love and God. And how that's a part of all of us, something each of us can incorporate into our lives and spirituality.
One of my favorite parts is her meditation on viewing the church not as "Mother Church", but as Aunt Sophia, the wilder, somewhat "out-there" eccentric aunt, who loves us no less, but is a little bolder, encouraging us to adventure, and exposing us to new things.
Just one of many, many great sections to this book which I thoroughly enjoyed.
