Triple Dare

Regan: With my family gone on a mission trip in El Salvador, I had planned on spending the holidays alone in sweet, peaceful bliss and silence. What I hadn't expected was to be hiding underneath of a musty quilt in the trunk of 1975 Dodge van, hiding from my ex-boyfriend and his best friend, who, I should mention, doesn't necessarily like me, as they travel from New York to Texas to buy pounds of marijuana. Someone should just kill me now because I will probably wind up dead by the end of this trip anyway.

Isaiah: This had been a bad idea from the start, but I had gone along with it anyway. Why? Because I was desperate. With an unemployed father and piles of bills that won’t pay themselves, I know that if I don’t want to be shipped off to live with my mother and her new husband in her sickening new life in New Jersey, I need to make enough money to get my father and I through the end of my senior year of high school. The only way to do that without a crummy, minimum wage, after school job is to get into the business of distributing weed. Like I said, agreeing to go with my best friend halfway across the country to Texas to smuggle an illegal substance purchased from an illegal immigrant had been a bad idea from the start, but I had no other choice. I had officially run out of options.

From the author of Let Him Go and the Chasing Heartbeats series comes a new powerful young adult fiction adventure that will have readers swooning from the start. From falling for Isaiah’s sweetness and rooting for Regan’s grit and determination, Triple Dare is a spectacular novel full of unexpected, adventurous twists and highly anticipated romantic turns. From Lake Ontario to Columbus, Ohio to Louisville, Kentucky, Nashville, Tennessee, Little Rock, Arkansas, Brownsville, Texas and back again, this book is full of highs and lows that will have readers crying tears of sorrow one minute to jumping for joy the next. Are you ready to set out on the road trip of your life? Isaiah White and Regan Clyde say, “Bring it on.”

I won this book on Goodreads and was looking forward to reading it as the synopsis sounded intriguing. However I found it disappointing on quite a few levels.

I'll start with the cover - it has absolutely nothing to do with the story. There isn't a character who looks like that, nor is there anything in the story remotely suggesting a person sitting by the door for whatever reason.

The plot was really flimsy, the situations the characters found themselves in could've had so many logical solutions in real life hence why it didn't make the story at all believable. The characters were impossible to like or identify with because they kept changing their personality. The author kept repeating the same points of the story eg the fact that the characters were on their way from NY to Texas to do an illegal deal with an illegal immigrant, virtually in every chapter.

Grammatically there were quite a few errors, and the overly descriptive language seemed forced and unnecessarily repetitive. The redundant use of "off from" eg he jumped off from the sidewalk, or she took the keys off from the table, made me cringe every time.

I felt the author did a good job with developing characters & storyline . Regan is a teenager that comes across her x boyfriend. She realizes she misses him right at the time she overhears that he is going across the country
With his best friend to smuggle drugs. She decides to hide in the van to try and convince him not to ruin his life. Along the way we learn Isiah the x is just trying to help his dad not lose what little they have left.
His best friend Ryder is just looking to have the money for college. Regan tries desperately to get them to see what a huge mistake this can be. Read the book to find out how it all turns out.

Kaitlyn Felt emailed me a free Kindle version of this book and asked me to give her an honest review once I was finished reading. Thank you Ms. Felt! I am also from Michigan (opposite coast though!).

I just started reading this a couple of days ago, and it's good so far. I have the Kindle app on my phone, and I keep forgetting about it, but I will read it. Thank you again!
