After years in the spotlight, I became known more for my off-screen shenanigans than my on-screen work. So in hopes of losing my train wreck reputation, I head across the country to hide out. The last thing I expect is to fall for the girl next door.
Bronte Hollinger doesn’t recognize me, and why would she? A middle school teacher who would “rather read the book” never imagined A-List actor CJ Cunningham might pop up at her family cookout or favorite coffee shop.
With her unaware of my infamous persona, I can just be Chris, the guy who’s determined to be better for her. To be the good guy.
But once she’s under me, rasping my real name, all bets are off. I’ll be whoever and whatever she wants me to be.
Except for my real role. Because I don’t know if my good girl can stand to be with Hollywood’s bad boy.
Content Note: Tangled Want is an open door romance between a train wreck celebrity and a bookish middle school teacher with plenty of angst, a big, loud family, and lots of spice. There are also discussions of conservative religion, biphobia, and parental abandonment.
loved the build up to the relationship but it kinda got boring after the couple started dating. but the familial relationships in this one probably overshadowed everything else and i love that <3
I got the first book in this series during one of the Stuff Your Kindle Days and I enjoyed it and thought it was a strong first book and was excited to carry on with the series. This book was an improvement from the first book as they spoke through their issues.
This book has two points of view. The first is Chris Cunningham aka CJ Cunningham and he has been in the spotlight for years and he has become known more for his off-screen shenanigans than his on-screen work. So, in the hopes of losing his train wreck reputation, he heads across the country to hide out. The last thing he expects is to fall for the girl next door. Bronte doesn’t recognize him and why would she? She is a middle school teacher who would rather read the book instead of watching a movie. With her unaware of his infamous persona, he can just be Chris, the guy who’s determined to be better for her. To be the good guy. But once she’s under him, rasping his real name, all bets are off. The second point of view is Bronte Hollinger, she has been with the same guy on and off since high school, she has lived in the same town and is pretty much a family person who cannot wait to settle down, but it won’t be with her high school sweetheart considering he wants her to leave her hometown, and put work and his social life above of her. On the way back from her trip with the girls, she meets a mysterious man who she feels an instant connection for, but he knows she won’t see him again . . . until he moves in next door and is coming to family dinner thanks to her mum. Once Bronte finds out who Chris really is, she doesn’t know if she can handle Hollywood, she is too sweet for Chris.
This book started off stronger than the last book and I liked that it picked up practically how the last book ended, with the girls being together and Gemma being a new mum and Jason fitting in with the girls. I liked the tension between them with 25% percent of the book being Bronte shouldn’t have feelings for Chris because of Hunter but then Hunter was a dick and Chris is like I can treat you 1000% times better than him. I liked how there was third-act conflict, but that it wasn’t like a massive fight or argument just conflicting feelings, both wanting each other to be happy and not knowing how to do it together. I loved Wes and that it took him called Chris an arrogant ass for Chris to realise.
The things that stopped it from being five stars was I would have liked Chris’s family to be explored more, it was just sweep under the rug that his family are knobs. I also felt like Chris’s bisexuality was just glossed over, I would have liked that to be a bit more explored. I would have also loved a big scene from like starstruck where Chris just declares that Bronte is his girl for the whole world to know but that she also wants privacy, it might have helped with the girls trying to throw themselves at Chris.
I cannot wait to see which one of the girls we read next and what trouble they get into.
Luck is on down trodden actor, Chris “CJ” Cunningham’s side, when he is seated next to Bronte on his flight to Pennsylvania. One, she doesn’t recognize him as the bad boy actor whose face is splashed all over the tabloids for many scandals, and two she’s a stunning beauty that soothes his soul. It’s pure kismet when he moves in next door to her parents, who take him in like he is their own. Bronte is a planner and knows what she wants for her life. She’s steadily realizing her long time, on again off again boyfriend isn’t giving her what she needs but is the stranger on the plane whose wedging himself into her life the one to give her everything or the one to crush her heart when his secrets come to light and their lives just won’t mesh?
This slow burn romance is agonizing on the heart. I fell in love with Bronte’s family much like Chris does. Bronte has such a quiet power about her; you can’t help but want the world for her. Chris is so full of emotional depth, showing Bronte just what a true partner should be, and helping her tackle her obstacles while working through his own and opening his heart to all those around him. Their relationship is so quiet and gentle, even when Chris’ ugly past comes to the surface. Their heartache at navigating their future and how to fit in each other’s lives is palpable. I also loved the guest appearances from Tangled Up and characters we’ll see in future Tangled Series books. Sophie Andrews has given us the sweetest romance in Tangled Want.
Sophie knows how to write swoon-worthy men 😍 It's only the 3rd book I've read by her so far, and I'm already addicted.
I recently talked with someone about the names of MCs. I said, I'm not a fan if the FMC has my real name. My nickname is absolutely fine 😁 But if the MMC has my husband's name... 😍 So, yes, Chris has a special place in my heart because of that 😁 But he would have it with any other name too 😎 He is so wonderful.
Yes, I believe the life of a Hollywood actor isn't easy. That Chris needs a bit of a timeout is absolutely understandable. And I love the secret identity trope 😍 Bronte is a bookworm. Fitting to her name 😉 So movies aren't really hers. I can understand it. I prefer books over movies, too.
I'm currently a bit speechless right now 😖 I love writing reviews, and then I finish a book, love it so much, and it makes me speechless 🙈 It's just so wonderful and heartwarming and emotional 🩷 Yes, I cried and am crying again just when I'm thinking about one specific scene 😭 I better stop writing now and jump into the next book. I had a tiny sneak peek while I was at the last page 🙈 So, I hope I'll see more about Bronte and Chris, and the other girls 😁
I enjoyed book 1 in the Tangled series and book 2 is no exception: this is a great, spicy, fun celebrity x normal person trope! Bronte (LOVE that her family named their kids after writers, special kudos for the use of Shelley/Fitz) is a small town teacher who by happenstance meets CJ "Chris" Cunningham, a movie star, on a plane. She doesn't recognize him at first and their meet cute continues as he hides out from his past mistakes in the house next door to her parents. I thought the slow burn of this relationship was great. Hunter is a jerk and I typically don't love the 'borderline cheating' trope, but if you read book 1 his jerkness is well established, so it felt way less forceful. The family dynamics were great (I would have loved seeing more of Chris'), seeing the best friends come back together from book 1 was just so genuine, and I thought watching Bronte/Chris try to maintain a long-distance celebrity relationship was very impactful and realistic. I hate 3rd act break ups but this one made a ton of sense and worked with the story. Such a fun read, looking forward to Sam's story! You don't necessarily need to read book 1 to enjoy this one, but I think reading them all makes it better!
This is book 2 in a series of interconnected standalones. You can read it on its own, but you will enjoy reading them in order, to get to know the friend group.
Bronte meets Chris on a plane. He is super stressed because he's scared of flying. She talks him through it, and they have a moment, but when he tries to kiss her, she rushes away out of the airport. By chance, he's her parents' new neighbor in PA, and he gets invited to family events, so they meet each other again. Unfortunately, Bronte has a boyfriend, and Chris is not exactly who he seems to be: he's CJ Cunningham, a super famous actor, in hiding after a bunch of drunken shenanigans. Will they get over these obstacles and get together? When Chris eventually goes back to work, will the long-distance relationship work?
I really loved this book! Of course, it has a HES, but for a moment there, I was worried! I love Chris: he's so down-to-earth and fun! I enjoyed his relationship with Bronte, but also with her family. I liked seeing the girls and Jason again in this book, and I can't wait to read about Sam and Laney in future books! They deserve their own HEA! I recommend this book for any romance reader. You'll love it!
I really liked the beginning and disliked the ending. The meet-cute was fun, and the flirting before their relationship started was enjoyable, but once Bronte and Chris got into a relationship I didn’t care anymore. The emotional development kind of ended once their relationship started, and I found myself skimming to get to the end.
Part of my problem with this book is that it started to feel like the first book, which I DNF’d at 53% because of the FMC’s lack of emotional maturity. The FMC in this book started out with relatively strong emotional maturity, then suddenly her conflict resolution became reminiscent of the FMC from book 1. It really grated on me. The only reason I didn’t stop reading is because, even though I also wasn’t a fan of Chris, he at least had compelling emotional maturity that pushed me forward.
I like Sophie Andrews’ writing style, hence trying the second book in the series, but I won’t be continuing with it. I don’t want to waste my time on another book with an immature 30 year old.
I enjoyed Tangled Up, the book previous to this one. Tangled Want was such a great follow up of the lives of the 4 friends. This one is all about Bronte, a quiet teacher from Allentown, surrounded by her family and amazing set of friends. Sitting next to a very nervous passenger on a flight home from staying at Gemma’s, she helps keep Chris, sitting next to her, calm as he’s visibly nervous. What she doesn’t know that this is CJ Cunningham, a famous bad boy actor who needs to have a break and bow out of the limelight for a while. There’s definite sparks between them but what he didn’t count on was there was a boyfriend and also she’d be seeing him a lot more than she thought.
I’m a fan of Sophie’s writing, I’m looking forward to the rest of this series and can’t wait to see what becomes of all the friends. Bronte and her family are such lovely people and I love the ending and how this story unfolds. Now go and download it from the 1st of Feb and it’s available on KU!!
Good story and the characters are likable, if not completely well-developed. My main problem with this book is that it had some continuity issues in the writing. The speaker’s pronouns (saying he when they were referring to Brontë, and vice versa) would get confused and occasionally it jumped to third person. Unfortunately, every time it happened it brought me out of the story until I could figure out what was going on, and that’s a big issue for me. A run-through with a good editor could take care of this easily. One other continuity issue - and it’s honestly really small - is that Chris (CJ), who is supposedly this huge Hollywood star, referenced everyday things being expensive. He did this more than once and it just struck me as odd. I guess he could be a frugal multimillionaire, but that’s not really in character for a Hollywood star. It’s petty, but it bugged me.
quick read! i like this one better than the first. the "washed up celebrity" wasn't all that washed up, but this was a super cute found family story. i liked that there is lgbt representation in these books, but i wished there was even more focus on chris coming to terms with his bisexuality and processed some more about his childhood. i felt like that was a loose end. i liked all the classic literature references. i like bronte a lot, and i feel like her thought processes make a lot of sense. good, quick read.

"I’d waited my whole life to meet the one person I loved like this, and after being apart from him, it was like coming back home."
I’ve absolutely loved this series, and getting to know these characters. And this story was another great story. Chris and Brontë meet on a plane.. he’s leaving Hollywood behind, to get his head back on straight. And she’s coming home from a girls weekend. She has no idea who he is, but she helps him. They both feel the instant attraction. And when they meet again, they can’t fight it. I was drawn into this book, and did not want to stop reading. These characters, you’ll love them, with their insecurities and flaws. This book was sweet, and fun. And I definitely recommend it.
This was SUCH a fun, spicy read! Although I think my favorite part was how Andrews created main characters that I cared about. I was rooting for Bronte and Chris and not just reading to get to the spice, which doesn't always happen for me when reading romance. Although the spicy scenes? *fans self*
This was my first book by her and now I want to read more. It's a romance with so much love you can feel it coming off the pages. What a great story between Chris and Bronte
