Tome clairement au dessus des autres ! C’est toujours aussi bien dessiné , l’intrigue se précise, on s’attache davantage à certains personnages et on en rencontre d’autres. C’est un véritable plaisir de lire ce manga.
C’est d’autant plus cool car les scènes bizarres sont moi s fréquentes que dans le 2.

Leider ist der dritte Teil in meinen Augen etwas schwächer, aber dennoch wirklich gut. Die Zeichnungen machen – wie auch schon in den anderen Büchern – einfach Spaß, und einige Panels haben sich mittlerweile regelrecht in meine Netzhaut eingebrannt. Ich habe teilweise ein paar Minuten gebraucht, um zu verstehen, wie genial genau diese Szenen sind. Besonders die Szene, in der das Kind getragen wurde und was dann passiert ist, hat mir richtig gut gefallen (bitte nicht falsch verstehen D: xD).
Zudem fand ich DAS Bild am Tisch richtig klasse, da ich das Geschehen erst nach und nach realisiert habe.

Ich kann es kaum erwarten, den nächsten Teil zu lesen. :D

Lo de Sakamoto no tiene nombre. Sus viñetas son hipnóticas, inhumanamente detallistas y de una creatividad sin límites. Y, por si fuera poco, su control de la narración y el simbolismo no queda opacado por su arte; es capaz de conjugar ambas disciplinas sin fisuras. Es difícil encontrar obras donde la trama y lo gráfico estén a la par en niveles tan altos. A pesar de ello, es importante señalar que esta obra no es para todos los estómagos, pues ese detallismo minucioso también se traslada a las escenas más cruentas.
Eso sí, no me acostumbro a que Drácula sea igual que Michael Jackson, tanto físicamente, como en movimientos (y a veces me da un poco de risa, aunque el contexto no sea precisamente gracioso). Tengo muchísima curiosidad por saber qué hay detrás de esa decisión y no he encontrado nada al respecto. Supongo que en algún momento se me hará la vista a esa imagen y ya está.
P.D.: La última página me ha recordado muchísimo a Berserk

In this volume, the crew are battling to save Lucy/Luke from Dracula's influence with the "help" of Van Helsing. 


I'll admit that like most reviews, Dracula looking like Michael Jackson with wolves covered in jewels, throws it off a bit, lol. Also, the misogyny with Mina seems a bit ridiculous at times. In the story itself, there were times it was difficult to distinguish what's going on in the comic panels or what scene we're at or what scene had shifted. A lot of daydreaming and fantasy views. The illustrations themselves are stunning. Very whimsical with twinkling stars and surreal themes. I love how gothic romance fantasy is the theme with dashes of gore and body horror. The last picture towards the end of the book is incredible. 


I'm really enjoying this series. I find it to be creepily beautiful. Especially this volume. If you like Dracula or fantasy goth, dark academia with a bit of celestial magical pretty sailor moon feels, this is a good series. Mina is like a Wednesday Addams with her typewriter, the determination to solve the mystery, and her ouija board.

no, sorry. it looks like the story is slightly more coherent in this third volume, but i still don’t like it. i think the art has potential and some panels look really great, but i hate that Dracula looks just like Michael Jackson. And now the boys and Mina are members of a club to find Luke and fight against Dracula? And what is up with Mina and her obsession with wrestling … why does she always repeat “cacc” all the time?

i read the german version and she still says “cacc” - di i read that as a word or letter by letter? because as a word this sounds like the german word for “shit” which, oddly enough, describes what i think of this version of Dracula.

i preordered volume 4 before i started reading the first three because i had such high hopes, but i will cancel my order. i don’t want to keep reading this.

Time for Dracula's grand entrance into this story. In the original, this is where he breaks out the single wolf to break into Lucy's house. Instead, he steals a whole pack and has them pull his sleigh across the moonlit night before crashing through the rose window of a church while our main group is giving Lucy a blood transfusion.

Then Van Helsing explodes.

Yeah, I knew by now that this wasn't going to be a 100% accurate retelling, but it's gone so off the rails that it would be almost unrecognizable if it didn't hit the weirdly specific story points. I didn't expect Michael Jackson as Vampire Santa to ever be a thing.

Absolutely gorgeous like the previous two volumes. The story in this one is a little thin and is mostly images, but they are so striking it doesn't really matter.

Lecture qui me fascine depuis ses débuts, nous sommes clairement ici sur un tome tournant, charnière pour l’histoire passée et à venir où l’auteur se fait grandement plaisir avec ses délires gothico-comico-musicaux. C’est très spécial mais très original et personnellement, j’adore !

Mais je comprends que ça puisse ne pas plaire, que ça puisse être très clivant, car la narration de Sakamoto est des plus décousues et participe vraiment d’un projet de remodernisation de ce mythe bien connu sur fond de comédie musicale sur papier, ce qui est assez singulier. Il avait déjà commencé ce jeu sur Innocent Rouge avec Marie mais il le pousse encore plus ici avec les Midnight Children. Personnellement, cela m’emporte dans une folle poésie baroque morbide totalement improbable et remplie de surprise, et j’aime beaucoup l’exercice. Mais pour ceux n’aimant pas les expérimentations et plus férus de récits classiques, je peux comprendre leur malaise et décrochage.

En tout cas, il conduit son projet à son point culminant ici, avec un mélange des genres saisissant. Il y a du gothique bien sûr, de l’horreur assurément, une touche de Dickens, mais aussi du Michael Jackson et plus surprenant encore du Darwin ! Dracula passe enfin à l’action dans ce tome et vient enlever Luke/Lucy. Pour cela, l’auteur s’engage dans un délire de revisite des figures de notre culture enfantine des plus barrés, un mix de Père Noël et de Peter Pan inattendu et jouissif. C’est barré, bariolé, baroque. J’adore sa mise en scène poético-gothique et gore avec ce bling bling évanescent. J’adore aussi la brutalité qui frappe d’un coup derrière un discours plus ésotérique et vaporeux qui pouvait faire croire qu’on y réchapperait. Quand la musique s’arrête, le glas tombe et il tombe brutalement !

Ce fut ainsi des plus jouissif de voir nos jeunes héros tremblant de peur se préparer à son arrivée et tenter de lutter à coup de théories Van Helsiniennes puis Darwiniennes pas toujours des plus adaptées mais illustrant bien le tiraillement des habitants du XIXe entre sciences, progrès et croyances passées. Nos jeunes héros s’affirment, tandis que l’ancienne figure du héros incarnée par Van Helsing tombe. Le passage de témoin est rude mais la série est enfin lancée et un second temps nécessaire est présent en fin de volume pour nous ravir encore plus !

J’ai beaucoup aimé assister à l’élévation et la création du club du Camélia, avec ses enfants si courageux prêts à tout pour sauver leur ami qui a basculé du côté sombre. Ils sont maladroits, pétris de défauts et de secrets, ils incarnent bien leur époque. Et cette Mina rongée par son ambition et sa désir d’être acceptée, ce qui la pousse à toutes les compromissions ou presque, je l’adore ! J’ai hâte de poursuivre leurs aventures surtout que Luke/Lucy démarre fort son voyage du côté sombre avec des allures de Jack l’Éventreur version succube arachnéen et qu’il nous file direct des frissons d’horreur et de dégoût !

L’horreur est d’ailleurs particulièrement présente dans ce tome, ce qui en fait une parfaite lecture de saison, que ce soit avec la peur que la folie de Dracula incarne, avec la violence de son passage à l’acte sur Van Helsing, ou les premiers pas dans l’ombre de Luke/Lucy, à la mise en scène bien gore et sanglante, on ne peut que trembler et frissonner ! Le trait semi-réaliste de Sakamoto accentuant bien cela comme il faut.

Excellente relecture de Dracula que ce #DRCL qui prend bien son envol dans ce tome qui clôt l’introduction et ouvre le bal à la chasse aux vampires pour nos jeunes chasseurs maladroits. C’est barré, inspiré et inspirant, totalement gothique et moderne à la fois, rempli de références dues à la folle inspiration de l’auteur. J’aime le souffle sombre qui transperce les pages. J’aime sa violence brutale et sans concession. J’aime sa poésie macabre et gore. Dracula a frappé, Luke a sombré, Van Helsing n’a pas résisté, place à nos jeunes Midnight Children en espérant que leur nouveau souffle vaincra le mythe ou en créera un nouveau !

Il terzo volume di DRCL è forse finora quello dalle tinte più horror, oltre che uno dei punti chiave della narrazione del romanzo di Stoker.
I personaggi femminili divengono sempre più centrali: tra tutti, Mina risulta forse il personaggio più reale e poliedrico; definita da una rabbia potente e sopita, scatenata dall'esclusione per essere "nient'altro che una femmina", la sua caratterizzazione è reale e molto incisiva, mai macchiettistica o insulsa.

Ho apprezzato moltissimo questa nuova visione del suo personaggio, che la rende estremamente moderna, ma non affatto scontata.

Il volume ha inoltre il suo culmine nella trasformazione finale di Luke/Lucy, personaggio che attraversa una parabola estremamente interessante: già nell'opera originale infatti, Lucy Westerna incarnava la pulsione del femminile libero dalle restrizioni morali e sociali del patriarcato; in questa riscrittura, ad esso si aggiunge anche il grande tema dell'identità di genere, che aggiunge un altro importante livello di lettura al suo personaggio. È evidente come nelle ultime pagine del volume, lei si sia potuta in definitiva liberare dalle oppressioni dettate da una società estremamente rigorosa e bigotta, per riappropriarsi infine, nell'oscurità che ammanta il conte Dracula, di quella agognata libertà che mai nella sua vita umana avrebbe potuto raggiungere.

Inoltre, come sempre, vorrei omaggiare i disegni di Shin'ichi Sakamoto, che rendono questo manga di una bellezza disarmante: i suoi tratti delicati e femminei si uniscono dolcemente all'orrore e all'inquietudine del contesto narrante, in uno splendido tributo al gotico e all'opera dell'horror.

#DRCL è la prova che è possibile riscrivere i grandi classici della letteratura anche senza allontanarsi troppo dalla fonte originale.
L’unico problema (o meglio, la grande forza di questo progetto) è che il terrore suscitato dalle tavole di Shinichi Sakamoto è, al tempo stesso, sensuale, magnetico. Anche quando vorresti chiudere il volume per la nausea, non riesci a farlo, perché vuoi di più. In qualche modo quest’opera riproduce perfettamente la sete di sangue del vampiro, il desiderio ossessivo di calore e vita.
Lo vediamo nell’agonizzante metamorfosi di Luke, nella ferrea volontà di Mina, nella paura degli altri personaggi.
Il Conte, in questa storia, è una creatura silenziosa, ammaliatrice ma sempre e comunque incorporea.
Nelle tavole di questo terzo volume lo vediamo danzare, mentre le tenebre ubbidiscono al suo volere. Siamo rapitə dalla sua eleganza, dai misteri e dalla passione che riempiono i suoi occhi.
Dracula è un dio, un’icona (forse da qui il desiderio di farlo assomigliare a una moderna popstar di fama internazionale), il soggetto delle attenzioni di ogni singolo personaggio.
Attraverso il leggendario signore dei vampiri, entriamo sempre più in profondità nella storia, nella psiche dei protagonisti, che rivelano così i lati più oscuri delle loro personalità.
Luke (o Lucy) diventa così il tramite tra il mortale e il divino, nella sua sensuale follia, nella fame che lo divora dall’interno.
Per Mina, abituata a combattere fin dalla tenera età, inizia una guerra a metà tra il mondo fisico e quello invisibile. E il vero dolore deve ancora arrivare.

# DRCL me laisse un sentiment contrasté...
Je pense que l'époque (fin XIX, début XXème) a un peu trop cette image romanesque et le thème de Dracula, n'en parlons pas! Sakamoto a une tendance à l'"hypra-lyrisme" qui n'est pas ce que je préfère dans son œuvre et autant le dire tout de suite, #DRCL s'y prête et s'y prête vraiment trop à mon gout. Il y a un énorme coté surjoué dans le dessins dès qu'un avatar vampirique fait son apparition et le tout manque cruellement de subtilité.
On se perd pas mal dans l'histoire, notamment à cause des digressions réflectives des personnages et des flashbacks qui ne sont pas toujours immédiatement identifiés comme tels.

D'un autre coté, c'est encore une folie de planches hallucinantes de beauté, fourmillantes de détails, de gore somptueux, de décors ambiancés à la perfection.
J'aime aussi sa réflexion sur le féminisme, le handicap, les classes sociales, même si comme d'habitude, les personnages restent en profondeur (pas visuellement) un peu trop froid pour moi.
Bref: je vais continuer. J'avoue que j'espère que l'histoire prendra le pas sur le lyrisme onirique dans l'intérêt d'abord de la clarté de l'œuvre et ensuite pour une raison plus personnel qui tient à ce que je trouve que Shin'Ichi Sakamoto perd en subtilité quand il représente des personnages exaltés (avec toujours le même faciès béat et malaisant... ).
Enfin bon "wait and see"...

The one-page introduction On Dracula and Vampires describes Dracula as an “amalgamation of myriad cultural beliefs,” destined to be reborn anew.

Sakamoto renders the king of the undead as an emaciated, heroin-chic apparition of the King of Pop, soaring across the night sky like some evil Santa on a chariot pulled by bejeweled wolves. Dracula then explodes through the stained-glass window of a gothic church and proceeds to eats the garlic flowers left on the floor to ward him off. Talk about making an entrance. What follows is sort a ritualistic ballet before he dissipates into thin air. Not too scary though, but very stylish.

The art team brilliantly evokes the 19th-century fin-de-siècle era, with its fascination for the occult and the supernatural. I was reminded of old photographs of ectoplasms taken during seances, a popular past-time for the bourgeoisie. There’s a Ouija board scene and I liked how Quincy was cast as the skeptic, questioning how a popular toy sold in the States could possibly serve as a conduit for the dead.

There’s an entire page of exposition on the title of the book #DRCL and the first appearance of the hashtag on a Remington typewriter, a clever nod to its current usage in the age of social media.

You've got to be open to a continuous display of extravagant spectacles and grotesque depictions of teenage sexual angst to really enjoy this book.
