Shepherd's Notes gives a succinct overview of one of the classics of the 20th century, Dietrich Bonhoeffer's The Cost of Discipleship. In an era when the church was threatened by rationalism, on the one hand, and National Socialism, on the other, Bonhoeffer issued a clarion call to historic Christian faith and to Jesus as Lord and Savior. Bonhoeffer practiced what he called others to. His commitment to the lordship of Christ was sealed by his death at the hands of the Nazi's only a few days before the end of war in the European theater.

Shepherd's Notes is not a substitute for The Cost of Discipleship but is designed to facilitate an encounter with this powerful book on the part of the reader. It points to passages where the reader will want to spend more time and go deeper.

A Good Read

This is the first time I’ve ever read a Shepherd’s Note. It was a quick read and gave me a good feel for what’s in the book. I’ll read the book with an informed mindset and I’m sure I’ll get more out of the book.

I had high expectations of this book and have wanted to read it for some time as it has always been high on the "must read" list of Christian books. However I found it to be way over towards the law/works end of the "Grace vs Law" continuum which was a big disappointment for me and my antinomian tendencies.
