BILLIE JONES is a writer from Australia, who enjoys imagining herself wrestling killer crocodiles and swimming with great white sharks. She thinks she may have to attempt base jumping so she can write about it and bungee-jumping is on the list too. You can find her either in front of her computer writing about her fictional adventures or at the beach searching for the next perfect wave.
The only time I got confused was when they were about to crash into a building, but only moments later ended up on Ayers Rock, and is an adrenalin shot to the heart the correct way to treat shock?
You can’t go into this book expecting Pride and Prejudice or you will be disappointed, you have to take this for wonderfully satiric take on a cult classic that it is. I was originally going to give this book 4 stars, but it got an extra star for the chainsaw reference. GOLD!
I wonder if we will see any more parodic (is that a word or did I just make it up? I have had a few wines…) views of the greats? Hint Hint…
This is a short read from an author I know by her real name, Rebecca Raisin. Rebecca writes romance, Billie Jones writes humour.
The author asked if I would like to read this story as I have read her stuff before and loved it. It is a very quick read and is a satirical take on monster type movies. It's a bit like a Scary Movie type take on those disaster movies we all love to hate! Or hate to love!
The basis of the story is the fact there's a typhoon hitting Australia, but with the added danger of having snakes within it. Kez is sent to investigate due to being a herpetologist, someone who studies reptiles and amphibians.
On the way to check things out disaster strikes as Kez and her pilot fly into one of the typhoons. What follows is sooo funny I can't begin to go into it without spoiling things. But here are a few of my favourite parts.
“It….t….t….t….” he manages.
I wrench his face closer to mine,”Snakes! Is it raining snakes?”
“Y….y….y….y….”
“This might take a while,” Bluey says, glancing over at me.
“Yeah, the venom is working it's way around his bloodstream.”
“No, not because of that. He's got a stutter.”
—————-
“Where's Jay?” I finally ask.
“He's outside.”
“What! What about the snake typhoon?”
“Controlled, for now. Jay erected one of those plastic wraps, Under the Dome TM, you can buy from the shopping channel. He got two for the price of one, so he was happy to share. He also got a set of steak knives, but he's going to sell those online.”
—————–
“Found something!” Cindi splashes over, holding my laptop and I hope to God she doesn't drop it in the water. I have a lot of ebooks saved on it.

That last one is something I can totally connect with! Lol Also the way the main character Kez constantly talks about the “secret government department” is like a running joke throughout the story.
There are so many other passages I could have highlighted, especially near the end when you find out what has to be done to solve the puzzle of what's going on, but that would just spoil things as it's such a short read.
I don't normally read this type of book, i didn't know what to expect, so when i was offered the chance and read the first chapter, and it made me laugh out loud i said yes!!
I love watching spoof films, love comedy, but have never read a full on novella of one... the writing is fantastic. Very descriptive, took me right back to those spoof films and i could visualize this all unfolding in my head.
Dry, witty, funny, i was caught out so many times by the funny bits coming right out of left side and slapping me in the face that i was glad i wasn't drinking anything at the time as i would have spat it out everywhere!
There are references to some things in here which had me in stitches and the characters are so comical and typical of the genre that.. well you can just imagine the whole thing playing out in your head.
A great enjoyable funny spoof novella that made me lol. I love Billie's sense of Humor!!!!
Snake Typhoon! is a short and fun read. It reminded me of Indiana Jones cross with the late Steve Irwin but in girl styles with a wicked sense of humor in it to mix it all up. I loved the way the characters were described by Kez and they all turned out to be totally different from her perception of them.
With the deadliest snakes in Australia flying around it a tornado getting closer and closer, hitting the helicopter will Kez be able to save the day? Read it to find out.
I read this on the way to the hospital I knew it was a parody and wanted something that would be funny to keep me from stressing about my appointment, it definitely did that I was laughing most of the way there.
This book had me laughing right from the first page as Kez goes on about the ridiculousness of her "superior', Cindii and her completely inappropriate snake-hunting outfit. As a parody, this story was great. I thought it would be something like Snakes on a Plane (don't ask me why, but that is what popped into my mind), but it was a quick, fun read. And Snakes on a Plane was just...horrible. Kez is a hilarious and likable character and i really enjoyed hearing the story from her point of view as she tries to save the world fro a truly freaky freak storm.
I originally read this book in its early stages, and followed it all the way thru to publication. and i can safely say its a journey i have enjoyed.
I found the story to have the same humor and satire as the film itself (without some of the more brain jarring cheesy parts) and i mean, who doesn't fee like wrapping Uluru in Kling-wrap every so often XD
Cant wait for the Sequel, and whatever else this author brings out XDXDXDXDD
I'm a big fan of chick lit and also I love disaster movies, so this was the perfect read - action chick lit! With its sharp, witty one-liners, strong female protagonist and hint at romance, I could hardly put it down. Snake Typhoon is fast-paced and visual with a relationship at the end that i didn't see coming... I giggled and gasped throughout. Highly recommended!
When I started this book I had no idea it was supposed to be a joke, so I spent the first chapter thinking it was just a dreadfully written book. I'm not sure exactly when I twigged that it was a parody but once I realised I started to adore it.
As a fan of movies like Sharktopus, I have to say that this book is glorious.
A short read and a short review for a Sunday afternoon.
What do you get when you cross the foul-mouthed mayhem of Snake on a Plane with the intentional b-grade laughs of Sharknado? Well, swap out Samuel L. Jackson and Tara Reid for a petite sort of Angelina Jolie, and you've got Snake Typhoon! (yes, that is an exclamation mark in the title).
It's a silly, nonsense romp, complete with a massive cyclone in Australia, poisonous snakes, a secret government department, an opportunistic misunderstanding as to what a 'herpetologist' does, mystical nonsense, infomercial extravagance, and even a little lesbian titillation. Billie Jones clearly knows the source material, and isn't afraid to satirize it with some rather broad strokes of her pen.
Does it always work? No. Are there some gaping holes in the story? Yes? Does any of that matter? No. It's fun, it's frantic, and it plays like the best parts of a b-grade movie. The dialogue is sharp, the action is non-stop, and the humor is biting. There's even a cliffhanger involving a tarantula-quake that we can only hope is realized.
Snake Typhoon! isn't going to win any literary awards, but it's sure to be one of those fan-favourites that readers talk about over one too many drinks.
There aren’t enough good books based on kick-ass heroines. The action novels I’ve read are generally all surrounding a male main character which was why it made a great change to see a leading female in this book. Snake Typhoon is a fun, fast-paced and extremely entertaining story.
I loved Kez’s character! She was strong and feisty and not one to give up easily. Faced with the Snake Typhoon right whilst she’s being seen as a lackey of a new girl, it would have been easy for her to shy away and mess everything up but this book would have been nowhere near as amusing if she hadn’t tackled them head on. Her attitude and humour was brilliant to read – this book is not to be taken seriously but instead appreciated for its action-packed, comedic values.
The dialogue in this book is sharp and witty and seriously enjoyable. I was genuinely laughing along to so much of the writing and the one-liners were ridiculously funny. The side characters were weird and wonderful too – I loved Shadow Guy especially but everyone else we encounter is kind of mad too.
Snake Typhoon is really quick and a book to be read in one sitting yet the author still manages to deliver a few twists and an awesome ending. I had no idea where the book was going to be taken towards the end but I thought it was the perfect way to finish this piece of entertainment – surprised and left wanting more!
Kez is a herpetologist and loves snakes. When a snake typhoon is threatening Brisbane she's part of the team who has to save the Australians from that horrible threat. She wants to prove herself, especially because her bossy colleague Cindii treats her like the junior while she's been at the office only one day longer than Kez. When Kez is in a helicopter in the middle of the typhoon she has to do everything she can to save herself and the entire nation. The evil, poisonous snakes aren't giving up very easily, it's a battle of life and death. Has Kez got what it takes to succeed? Snake Typhoon! is an action packed novella and it reads like a comic book without pictures. Kez is a great heroine. She's funny and I love the way she swears. I read this story in one go, it was too cool to put down. Billie Jones is a very talented chick who knows a lot about girl power. A snake typhoon sounds like a bad nightmare and Kez is living it, but she's also loving it and she enjoys herself while she's fighting for her life. I didn't want this novella to end, because I liked the fierce and sassy girl talk so much. The story has an unexpected and steamy finale which is a nice surprise. You don't want to miss this!
When the author approached me and asked if I'd like to review Snake Typhoon, I really wasn't sure if it'd be my sort of thing. I mostly read romance or thriller/suspense and this is a completely different book! It reminded me of those action movies that require you to suspend disbelief- Snakes on A Plane type films with a generous sprinkling of the farce from the parodies of the genre, or a cartoon from my childhood.
Although totally different to my usual reading material, I enjoyed Snake Typhoon more than I thought. It was entertaining and amusing, quirky and unique.
I liked Kez as the girl who has a point to prove, she was an interesting character that I'd like to learn more about.
Overall, if you like humorous spoof films such as Scary Movie then this could be the perfect short read for you. At just 10,000 words it can easily be read in one sitting for a quick dose of action and it certainly gave me some laughs on my commute.
This is a fun, quick read, that had me laughing out loud quite a few times! I wasn't sure what to expect when I started, as I'd never read anything like it before, but it was a mile a minute action/comedy that I just couldn't put down. Love the clever and witty one liners throughout. I really hope there's a sequel!
