They say you can always go home again, but for August Percy, that didn’t apply even when she had to live there until her eighteenth birthday.
After saying goodbye to a toxic childhood, she never planned to look in the rearview. Until the death of the woman who caused all her trauma forces her back to Hope Crest.
With a mountain of debt and an uncertain future, August at least has a soft place to land when her former employer and surrogate big brother offers her a house that isn’t chock full of nightmares from the past. What she never bargained for, though? The boy-turned-man she’s always crushed hard on from afar accidentally becoming her roommate.
Evan Ashton is the prodigal son who finally came home … even if he didn’t necessarily want to. As the new head chef of his family’s fourth-generation restaurant, he’s trying to build his own legacy in a line full of stubborn men. So when he ends up under the same roof as the closed-off woman the rest of his siblings seem to know so well, Evan attempts to shut down any curiosity since he can’t afford more complications in his life.
Except conversations over late night snacks, having her unexpectedly working in his kitchen, and inevitably bumping into her at every family celebration they’re both invited to only seems to bring him closer to August … until all of that tension bubbles over.
Then danger begins to close in, and it’s not even a thought of putting himself between her and the threat. But secrets beyond either of their control, and opportunities far from Hope Crest, begin to cause cracks.
And when both of them question whether their intense connection can last for longer than right now, it may just be their final undoing.
Author of romance novels such as Fleeting and Love at First Fight, Carrie Aarons writes books that are just as swoon-worthy as they are sarcastic. Her stories are fueled by vanilla lattes, meloncholy music, and copious amounts of candles.
When she isn't writing, Carrie is busy binging reality TV, having a love/hate relationship with cardio, and trying not to burn dinner. She lives in farm country with her husband, two children and ninety-pound rescue pup.
August was finally able to get away from her horrible mom and go off to college and make something of herself. After her mom dies, she has to go back home to Hope Crest to deal with the last things that were her mother’s. She needs a place to stay (because the house she grew up in has bad memories), so her best friend offer’s his wife’s old house.
Evan is the baby of the Ashton family who is the head chef of their family restaurant. He is trying to be creative but his dad is trying to keep the restaurant from changing. Evan needs to move out of his family home an his sister offers her old house.
Evan is August’s high school crush and now he is her roommate for the time being. Evan is starting to notice August and she thinks he won’t like her the same way she likes him.
The flirting, tension, suspense and all the things…I couldn’t put this book down!
I am sad that this is the end of the series, but what a great series it was!
I was so looking forward Evan's book and knowing he was paired with August was icing on the cake for me.
Evan and August had completely different upbringings but both left their hometown to find themselves outside of their family.
Now they both find themselves back in their hometown. August has always crushed on Evan but he never noticed her. But now that they are older and find themselves in a unique situation, you never what happens behind closed doors.
I could not get enough of these two. I loved the tension, the slow burn chemistry and their late night talks. This was a perfect slow-burn romance with a bit of mystery and I loved every single bit of it.

While this book marks the end of the Ashton Family-Series, I had such a fun time reading. Evan was probably one of my favourite characters, and I was excited about this book.
The female protagonist, August, is ready to start her new life when she has to go home to settle her late mother’s affairs. She has caused August incredible pain growing up, so coming back to her hometown is not an easy task to do. As she is looking for a place to stay that won’t rip up old wounds, her former mentor, Warren, steps in. Amidst all the chaos, August and Evan, the male protagonist, find themselves sharing his older sister‘s house. As they face living as roommates, their attraction towards one another becomes more visible each day.
As always, the author has nailed writing a small-town romance to the t. Hope Crest was a fun place to visit, with its charm and townsfolk. There are many great characters, and catching up with the other Ashton siblings in this book is a plus, too. But Evan was the character whose book I was waiting for the most. His and August‘s upbringings couldn’t be more different, but they both left town as soon as they got the chance. August escaped her mother and her traumatic life in Hope Crest, and Evan started his culinary journey apart from his family business. They both struggle in their own ways, and it was so lovely to see how their connection turned from inevitable roommates to friends who support each other. August is the type of character who you want to come out stronger from all of this. While Evan feels his dreams are too big for this small town and he could never live up to his father, he steps up for August when she needs it most. They give each other comfort. August learned to rely on herself and only herself. Allowing herself the love and support from the people around her is hard. August and Evan find acceptance, safety, and searing chemistry with one another. They each feel genuinely seen and cherished but must determine if this is just a fling or the long game.
Hearty is my favourite book from the series, and I was so happy to finally read August’s and Evan‘s story. Anyone loving the small-town vibes and forced proximity, roommates to friends to lovers-trope, you should check this out.
August is ready to start her new life when she has to go home to settle her mother’s estate. Her mother was horrible in life and in death leaves August debt and a mess. Her mentor Warren offers his wife Alana’s home for her to stay and get everything settled. While unpacking she hears a noise and almost beats Evan, Alana’s brother, with a curling iron. They become roommates, and the attraction between is very intense. They both try and fight it, but can’t. Can they be together or with their issues keep them apart? Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing book. I absolutely love Evan and August and their dynamic and character development. Great supporting characters. This book has family, found family, sarcasm, angst, and the spice is so good. I love this book and series.
I am so sad this series is over but the best was saved for last! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Evan’s book, and knowing he was going to end up with August, was the cherry on top!
This story has so many for my favorite tropes: small town romance, forced proximity, and friends/roommates to lovers. I loved how Evan and August slowly healed each other and fell in love.
I also really loved catching up with the rest of the Ashton family! They are fantastic supporting characters!
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
August Percy can't wait to leave Hope Crest due to the childhood she's endured but when her mother dies and she has to sort out the will, she once again meets Evan Ashton and her childhood crush rears its head. When they end up as roommates, the attraction grows between them. When August is threatened, how will they react? Can they clear the problem and step into something they both deserve? This was another great read from Carrie that I couldn't put down. Here's to the next one!
I have loved reading all of the different siblings stories within the Ashton family series, but Evan's story is the one I was waiting for the most. And the one I was hoping would be with August. So I was ecstatic when I read that she was his FMC.
🤍Small town romance 🤍Roommates to lovers 🤍Childhood crush 🤍Age gap 🤍Forced proximity
August and Evan's upbringings couldn't be more different, but both led them to leaving their small town as soon as they could. August was escaping a terrible homelife and Evan was leaving to start his culinary journey outside of the family business.
But inevitably, they both end up back home for different reasons. And those reasons seemingly bring the two of them closer together.
August had the biggest crush on the youngest Ashton brother her entire childhood, while Evan never looked twice at the young August. But now here they are and they both are able to see each other on the inside.
The support and love that they both grow to have with each other was so beautiful. August is a character that you truly want to come out stronger after enduring and surviving so much. And with the support of the Ashton's, she is able to. I loved the journey of August and Evan getting to know each other in their adult lives and slowly falling in love.
Evan's journey with his family was complex, but so heartwarming by the end.
I absolutely love this small town series and recommend to anyone looking for a low angst, small town romance!
Thank you to Carrie Aarons for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review
It's so sad to say goodbye to the Ashton family. This series holds a special place in my heart, and it's so bittersweet to review the final book. August and Evan were the perfect end to this series. This whole book had so much angst, pining, and lasting. Seeing Evan and August fight their feelibg for each other was so torturing. These two were meant to be, and seeing them finally accept and realize that made me so happy. Their moments were so special and beautiful. You could feel the admiration and love they had for each other. The stolen glances and the lingering stares, the sweet love act of service they shared, and in general, every little thing they did for each other had me on my knees. I can't believe how perfect they were and how challenging their feeling were for each other. August was so sweet and caring. A lovely woman with such bright light and pure heart. Evan was truly such a perfect gentleman, and while they both had their issues, you could see how much they supported each other and how they became the comfort each needed. It is a truly wonderful book with incredible characters that I will miss dearly!
Book by: Carrie Aarons Tropes: • Small town romance • Roommates to lovers • Unrequited love • Forced proximity • Found family • Workplace romance • It's always been you
August is going back to the one place she never thought she'd come back to, never wanted to come back to, to settle her mother's estate. Her brother figure doesn't tell his wife he's offering her their empty home for her to stay in, so now she's stuck with her teen crush, Evan Ashton, as her new roommie while she's in town. Forced proximity can do intense things to people with the chemistry they have, so they'll both need to be careful not to go and do something crazy like fall in love. She's only here temporarily, so it would be very, very unwise to do that.
Evan's been back home trying to make his own mark on the family legacy, but it hasn't been easy. He's used to the fast paced restaurant scene that he left, where he was the new big thing. Here at home, though, he has to deal with his equally stubborn family, and it's driving him nuts. And it seems while he was gone, August Percy became one of that same stubborn family. Except she's not really the young teenager he remembers, and it's messing with his head. Having to be her new roommate is testing his restraint even though he knows her stay is temporary.
What a beautiful way to end this amazing series! I've long been interested in Evan's story. He's been in the background of each of the previous stories, but in each of his scenes he was so intriguing that I knew when the time came for him to fall in love, it would be have to be with someone as intriguing as he is. He really couldn't have picked a more perfect partner to fall for, even though he had to work to get past her trust issues and into her heart. I'm going to miss this family and all the residents of their small town.

This is the fourth book in the Ashton Family series by Carrie Aarons. I can’t state enough how much I absolutely love this family’s dynamic. The generational wisdom, the meddling, the sharp banter rooted in respect, love, and affection is endearing. Beneath the surface of the daily struggles that often ebb and flow is a family guided by a deep seeded deference for tradition while also striving to strike the delicate balance of forging new paths suited for the current generation.
In this last book we find Evan, the baby of the bunch, struggling to truly cement himself as the new Head Chef of Hope Pizza. Despite being home for a few years, making necessary updates to the decor, and adding his spin on the long standing fare offered at the restaurant. Evan continually feels as if he can’t please his Father. Stepping into those huge metaphorical shoes while being his authentic self is a huge struggle. He feels drawn to his hometown, but fears his dreams and ambitions are too big for Hope Crest.
August Perry, the beloved former waitress at Hope Pizza who left for college never intending to return to the town filled with so many terrible memories, is called home to settle her late Mother’s estate. The utter disaster she finds herself mired in at the hands of her parent just seems like another kick in the gut from the universe and leaves her wondering why she can never seem to stay afloat. Those feelings of despair compound when August is harassed by an unsavory man who demands she settle her mother’s other debts.
Even though August has been loved and cared for by the Ashton’s for years her early life experiences conditioned her to only rely on and fully trust in herself. She is a survivor! Coming back to Hope Crest forces her to eventually lean on those who love her or drown under the weight of everything she has been left to handle. Amidst all the chaos August and Evan end up sharing his sister Alana’s old house allowing the pair to go from acquaintances, to roommates, to true friends that find acceptance, safety, solace, and searing chemistry with one another. They each feel truly seen and cherished, but must determine if this is a lustful fling or true love.
Can each of these dynamic people feel fulfilled and live out their dreams in Hope Crest or are they both meant for other adventures. Do they live out their dreams together or separately? Which road will lead them to their HEA? Read Hearty to find out!
Carrie Aarons' Ashton Family series has reached its conclusion with HEARTY. A forced proximity, friends to lovers, small town romance which brings on all the feels. Once again Carrie delivers the fun, banter, interfering, and love I've come to expect from the Ashton family members, ensuring a highly entertaining read.
At eighteen, a toxic relationship with her mother had August Levine happily accepting a scholarship and leaving Hope Crest for college with no intentions of ever returning. All hopes of that are dashed when she is asked to return to settle her mother's estate upon her death, resulting in the devastating memories of her youth haunting her. Nothing is easy for August though, and she soon finds out, even after her death, her mother can still throw her life into turmoil. After attending culinary school and working in five-star restaurants, Evan Ashton returned home several years ago to take on the position of head chef in his family's restaurant. Lately he's been having second thoughts about his decision, wondering if Hope Crest is too small for his dreams and plans.
August has had a crush on Evan since her teenage years and unexpected circumstances have them sharing a house. I adored August, she's a fighter, a survivor, has a heart of gold, but she has come to learn that the only person she can rely and trust on is herself. Evan is a carer and a protector, and it's not long before August begins to wriggle her way into his heart, but he knows that once she sorts out her mother's mess she'll be leaving. The chemistry between them sizzles, and it's not long before they act on it and boy do they know how to set the bedsheets on fire! I loved the friendship that developed between them, it was real and honest. The support they gave each other and encouraged each other's dreams. Their journey may not have been an easy one, but it was right for them.
Once again Carrie has presented a beautiful and emotional story of friendship, family, and love. It's one of survival and strength of character, of trust, understanding and acceptance. HEARTY was such a wonderful read, a fitting conclusion to this heartwarming series.
Freshly graduated from college, August Percy is ready to start her career... but first, she has to return to the town she never wanted to step foot in again... Hope Crest, Pennsylvania.
Evan Ashton once left Hope Crest to explore the culinary world on his own terms, but nowadays he creates masterpieces in his family-run pizzeria. His dreams took him far away from home, but now with the return of August... he may finally be ready for everything he never knew he wanted...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hearty was a sweet and sexy, unrequited love story! August and Evan never connected before she left Hope Crest, much to the despair of her completely infatuated, Auggie. But now she's back, these two have become temporary roommates, and Evan has finally noticed the strong and irresistible woman that August has become...
August owes everything good in her life to the Ashton family. And while she had the biggest crush on Evan growing up, he never gave her the time of day. With her return, all these years later, Evan may finally be noticing her... but will Auggie ever be ready to show him her true feelings?
Evan only has eyes for his kitchen on most days. With his passion for creating the most amazing food, he rarely has time for relationships. But then August returns, and changes everything he thought he knew about not only her relationship with his family, but his own shortcomings...
This book was an engaging read about some very complicated characters and the family dynamics that have shaped them. I really enjoyed the slow burn romance between August and Evan, and the way that he falls for her all on his own.
Hearty was another fantastic read in the Ashton Family series, and I really loved seeing updates on how the previous members of the Ashton family are growing in their own lives, while getting a fresh story with the two youngest members of the family...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
I've loved reading this series, and Evan and August's story was the perfect ending to it, they both were mentioned in the previous books, so after reading about August's crush on Evan, I was really excited to read their story. It was an easy read but still had the drama, romance, and suspense that Carrie adds to her stories, and I loved reading the dynamics between the Ashton family and how everyone treated August like their own family after everything she went through with her mother.
August was back in Hope Crest after her mother's death, and while she never planned to come back, she knew she had to settle things and finally be free of the things related to her mother. She had some problems to face, so in the meantime, she stayed in Alana's old place without knowing Evan would also be staying there. At first, they didn't see each other much, and despite Evan's jealousy over August and his family, I loved how little by little their relationship started changing, and how Evan finally knew about August's crush on him.
Evan was a chef, so he loved to create new recipes and to cook for the people he loved. He spent most of his time in the kitchen, but it was nice reading how he started spending more time at home and being close to August. I loved how after some time August decided to act on her feelings and how she and Evan eventually started opening up about their lives and spending their time together. When August was faced with another of her mother's problems, Evan was determined to protect her, so I loved how August finally agreed to let Evan and his family help her, so she wouldn't have to face all of her problems alone.
Evan and August's relationship was very interesting, and I loved reading their moments together and how at the end, they both knew what they wanted to do with their lives. It was nice reading how August had a new family that loved her and supported her dreams and how she and Evan finally shared the love they had for each other.
The Ashton family has been amazing from the start, so I loved reading all of their interactions and seeing how close they all were and how they always supported each other. Carrie created an amazing family and I can't wait to read her future books.
𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐲 is the fourth and final book in the Ashton Family Series by Carrie Aarons, featuring a surprise roommate romance for Evan and August. When August fled Hope Crest at 18 in an attempt to escape the toxic life she was trapped in, she had no intentions of returning. But leave it to her horrible mother to find a way to suck her back in, even in death. When Warren, her former boss and surrogate big brother offers her an empty house to stay in, she’s relieved to avoid her mother’s house. She just doesn’t expect to find her childhood crush, Evan Ashton, also crashing in the house. With August constantly in his home, his restaurant, and his family gatherings, Evan loses his grip on his control around her as their attraction and feelings grow. With danger circling, secrets coming out, and opportunities being offered elsewhere, will August stay with the people who love her, or flee once and for all?
What a great way to end the series!! I’ve been curious about both August and Evan during the series, so I loved reading their story! August’s backstory was heartbreaking, and the hits just kept coming!! The twists, turns, and drama with that were super entertaining! Although, I’ll admit I feel like she took the notion of being strong and independent too far. There’s nothing wrong with accepting help once in a while that is freely offered, especially in such a dire situation! I got a bit frustrated with her over that. Then there was Evan, acting like a spoiled baby early on.🙄 I felt better after I imagined myself giving him a little swat to the back of the head like I would my brothers.😆 But really, they were great together, and the family was the heart of it for me. The way they loved her, and gave her the support she always needed, no matter what!! I will definitely miss the Ashtons!!
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶🌶
I've been looking forward to reading Evan Ashton and August Percy's story ever since it was clear that she had a bit of a crush on the youngest Ashton sibling. I also felt that she deserved a happily-ever-after, especially considering the hints that her home life was far from ideal. Hearty is the title of the fourth and final Ashton Family series, and it's a roommates-to-lovers romance. If you've read the previous books, then you'll know that August left Hope Crest, Pennsylvania after receiving a college scholarship and that Evan returned to their hometown prior to her leaving after a bit of badgering from his family in hopes he would take the helm in the family-owned Hope Pizza. Four years after August's departure, she's back. Burdened by everything her now-departed mother has left behind, August realizes what was supposed to be a quick trip to Hope Crest was going to be a longer stay. It also means being in close quarters with her unexpected roommate--Evan. Tensions are high and not just because of the chemistry between them.
This was such a nice way to close out the Ashton Family series. Any and all issues were wrapped up in one form or another, including Evan's with his family, particularly his father. Being the chef that he was and their pizza place being set in its ways, there's been some conflict for some time. I was also happy to see August not only become more mature but also have her own share of breakthroughs, especially when it came to asking for and accepting help from those who were closest to her. There were a couple of times where I would have wanted a bit more in terms of detail, but these two main characters got the happily-ever-after that they had been working towards. I also loved seeing the Ashtons become a more solid family unit, and having all four siblings paired off and their parents enjoying their retirement and the fact that their children were all content did my heart good. I'm going to miss Hope Crest and this family, but I don't think I could have come up with a better ending for all of them. Four stars for Hearty.
This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Carrie Aarons!
Hearty is the fourth and final standalone book in the Ashton Family series and tells the story of August and Evan.
I'm a big fan of Carrie Aarons, and I truly enjoy reading her books. Every time I start one of her books, I know I will love the happy ending. The Ashton Family series was such a lovely book series about family, friendship and true love, and Hearty was the perfect ending for the series. If you're a fan of Small Town Romance, then the Ashton Family series is definitely something for you!
Hearty is the last book in the Ashton Family series and is about August and Evan. Their story has a few amazing tropes such as Roommates to Lovers, Forced Proximity, Age Gap (but not that big). I loved that August used to have a crush on Evan when she was younger, and that they now have the chance to act on those feelings. I really liked reading August and Evan's story, and reading about the other members of the Ashton family again.
Hearty was another great book by Carrie Aarons. The Ashton Family books were so well-written and all of them have a beautiful cover. Bittersweet and Hearty are definitely my favourite covers! If you're looking for a good Romance series where family and love are important, then definitely make sure to check out the Ashton Family books!
Roommate to Soulmate August Percy made peace with her predicament a long time ago and there is some sort of calm resolve to only being responsible for herself and her actions and not having anyone weighing her down, holding her back, telling her what she can and cannot do. She’s free after a lifetime of not being so. As if her mother had not thrown her for a loop enough times in her mortal existence, she is getting one last laugh by doing so in her death. She is going to be back in Hope Crest much longer than she planned and Evan Ashton is going to be her roommate. Back in highschool, August had a crush on Evan to fill the size of the largest cruise ship, but he barely registered she existed, much less worked in the restaurant his family owned. She is a different woman now, though, one with confidence and a view of the world outside Hope Crest. She has gotten over her crush on a guy who barely cared to realize she was there. Well sort of. The way her heart beats double time and the sweat that slicks her hands says differently. To Evan, August sure doesn’t resemble the shy, awkward teen waitress who worked in his family’s restaurant every weekend for years. This willowy, supple woman with high cheekbones and golden hair, is so beautiful and looks so different. Does she feel the jolt of electricity between them anytime they make contact? Carrie Aarons has hit all the feels in this final book of her “Ashton Family” series. It is a well written steamy small town romance brimming with intriguing family dynamics, chemistry, emotion, humor and an element of danger and suspense. Both August and Evan have dreams for the future, but obstacles that they must overcome to fulfill those dreams and find their true place in the Ashton family. Even though I am going to miss the Ashtons this was a fantastic conclusion to the series.
The Ashton Family series comes to a end with a roommate romance between youngest sibling Evan and August, the former Hope Pizza waitress who went off to college and never planned to return to Hope Crest.
Evan has always had a chip on his shoulder, feeling that he has a lot to prove as not only the baby of the family but as the only one who is following in his dad's footsteps as a chef. But Evan is a classically trained chef who has worked in some of the best restaurants in the world, and he faces resistance from his dad at every turn as he's trying to evolve Hope Pizza to keep up with the times. When Auggie went off to college on a scholarship, it was an escape from the trauma she'd endured her entire childhood at the hands of her abusive mother. She never planned to return to Hope Crest, but she's been forced to come back to town after her mother dies to settle her affairs.
Through a comedy of errors, both August and Evan end up sharing his sister Alana's old house. She's always had a crush on him, while Evan resents her in a way because his family thinks so highly of August. He doesn't quite know what her home life was like the way his parents and Warren and Alana do, so Evan doesn't quite understand why she's such a golden child to them. There's a lot of tension between them -- sexual and otherwise -- and it was a trip to see how these two go from kinda-enemies to so much more.
What I loved is how a switch flipped for Evan after they finally bang it out -- and he was all in way before August was. When her mother's past comes back to haunt her, Evan steps up for her big time as a protector. And eventually, August begins to trust that she can rely on the Ashton family to be there for in ways that her own flesh and blood never was.
I really enjoyed the journey that these two characters took!
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
This was such an easy to read, feel good romance. I love Small Town Romance that give you warm feels and how everyone has your back. Evan is the youngest in his family. He has always dreamed to be a successful chef. He loves thinking out of the box, but is expected to come back home to take over the family Pizza Restaurant. He is trying to build his own legacy but it's proving hard. August left Hope Crest soon as she was 18. She had the worst childhood with a manipulative mother. Her life was awful and her only solace was the Ashton family and Warren, her psuedo brother. On the day she graduates, should be a happy day but she gets the news to come back home to manage her mother's affairs as she has passed away. This is her worst nightmare. Her upbringing has left her to be independent and not take help from anyone. Not to expect anything, so it comes across as a bitter and very angry. Her softness is from the love Ashton's have given her. Evan was her childhood crush and he didn't even know. They only worked together for a short time and Evan didn't like her much because his family always noticed her and he always felt left out or disregarded. He didn't know a her home life. Now situations has left them to be room mates. Their chemistry was instance but August thinks he doesn't see her like that and the problems her mother left her are too much. So they both fight it until she breaks down and takes something for herself. Evan is all in but she isn't looking to stay and is ignoring anything relationship related. Can they have a future? Is August ever going to live past her trauma? Will Evan tell her how he really feels? I loved the whole family dynamics and their banter. So much love, heartbreak, emotional, turmoil, drama, banter, found family and spice. Although this is a series, I was able to read this as a standalone.
In "Hearty," the fourth instalment of the Ashton Family series, Carrie Aarons plunges readers into the captivating small town of Hope Crest, where every corner holds its own thrill. At the heart of the narrative is Evans, a character who effortlessly steals hearts with his charisma and vulnerability, reminding us that even in the quietest of places, adventures await.
This slow-burn romance is a mesmerising journey from start to finish, weaving a tale that grips the reader tightly from page one. While the entire series has been a testament to the power of love and family, "Hearty" stands out as the most profoundly moving entry yet.
"Hearty" is a testament to the beauty of small-town romance, skillfully blending heartwarming moments with pulse-pounding excitement. With its compelling storyline and endearing characters, this book is sure to capture the hearts of readers and leave them eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the Ashton Family saga.
I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the last book in this series but its also the only book I have read in this series. I can definitely say that it easily stands alone. I never felt lost or that I was missing scenes that were in another book. And I totally loved this story.
It's about August who had a terrible upbringing. Her mother was the absolute worst. But she was also beloved by the family that employed her at their family restaurant. At the start of this book, she has come back to town since she graduated college, her mother has died, so she is ready to complete her mother's affairs and pick a job to start her career in.
When she gets to town, she ends up sleeping at the restaurant because she doesn't want to touch her old family home. That is how Evan Ashton first sees her after not seeing her for several years. In his mind she is the girl that his family loved more than him. So, to him she is his frenemy. While August when she worked at the restaurant had a HUGE crush on Evan.
This was such a really great book. I really loved it. These two end up as roomies and slowly start to see other as they truly are. It was such a fun book watching them fight their feelings and fall for each other.
My heart also broke a few times for poor August and how her mother treated her an what she leaves her with. But I LOVED the Ashton family and especially Warren. I wish I had a Warren in my life too.
A friends to lovers story for Evan Ashton and August Percy in Hearty as August finds herself returning to her hometown of Hope Crest, something she’d sworn never to do, She’d left at the age of eighteen without a backward glance and if she ever thought about the place, it would’ve been about the Ashtons who had looked out for her when her emotionally abusive mother didn’t. She’d only returned until her mother’s death forces her back and even from beyond the grave she has one last blow for her daughter to deal with the debts she left behind.
I’ve been waiting on Evan and August’s romance since the first book and Hearty did not disappoint. Even though August was only a teenager when they first met it was more than obvious there was a spark, and she harboured a secret crush on the chef. They had so much in common. Both had left town to escape, although in Evan’s case it was to prove himself rather than a bad family situation and both were reluctant to return. When he ends up sharing his house with August, he had every intention in keeping her at arms length, but close proximity plays its part and the more he gets to know her, the more he wants her, but Evan is rooted in Hope Crest while August is determined to leave as soon as she can. If you enjoy books with a great story and fantastic characters, strong family dynamics, amusing sibling banter and a strong edge of danger for the heroine lurking in the background then I strongly recommend the Ashton Family series which can easily be read as standalones.
I’m sad to say goodbye to Hope Crest and the Astons. From the first book where I was introduced to this place and this amazing family, I knew another favourite series of mine was born.
Evan is the last single Ashton, after he begrudgingly came home to run the family restaurant, his focus is solely on business, until August comes back to town. She is a honorary Ashton, the whole family adores her, which makes Evan invidious of her.
I love August, she might be a little bit stubborn to accept help, but the way everyone loves her is a statement to her character. Her childhood wasn’t an easy one, but this lovely family made it so she had a safe place to land.
After leaving her home town to go to college, she never wanted to come back home, but her mother’s death forced her to be back. What should have been a few days, to deal with her house, turned into a prolonged stay where she started to realize that sometimes the place we are running from can feel like home if we accept the love of good people.
For me this author equals feelings, most of her books make me ache with the character, this one being no different. Autumn had a crush on the younger Asthon since she was in high school, so being in close proximity those latent feelings are starting to resurface, but his jealousy of her relationship with his family make him hurt her feelings a few times, but he’s forgiven because he proves himself worthy of her.
This family was a joy to be part of, not because they are perfect, far from it. They have flaws and problems which with love and respect they learn to overcome.
Hearty is the fourth book in Carrie Aaron’s Ashton Family series and I think this just may be my favorite! I have had a soft spot from the get go for August so I couldn’t wait to read her story. Evan was more of a mystery but I knew he was so much more than the well traveled prodigal son. Small town romance is usually this idyllic place that everyone loves and never wants to leave, so this was refreshing that both main characters felt completely opposite. While the previous books touched on Auggie’s past we dive deep into it and it’s even more heartbreaking. I completely understand why she’s so closed off and so independent, even if I did want to shake her at times. Evan’s complicated relationship with his family has made for some tension throughout the series, and I love that we get into his head to see where he is coming from. I love the forced proximity of the surprise roommate debacle, it makes for both angsty and steamy moments. I love that straight out the gate Evan is into grown up Auggie, this is every girl’s dream when her childhood crush likes them back. The chemistry and tension is well done, I loved the push and pull. FINALLY I am not hating Thomas Ashton.. it only took the whole series, but I’m so happy it’s all worked out. Hearty, just like the previous books in the series is full of emotional moments, suspense and diving deep into what family means and becoming comfortable with yourself. I loved all of the family interactions as well, this was a great close to the series and I hope we can revisit Hope Crest. Must read!
Hearty is the fourth and final book in the Ashton Family series by Carrie Aarons. Each book can be read as standalone but I highly recommend reading the series to fully be invested in this couple.
August left Hope Crest on a full-ride scholarship, and never planned on coming back. There were too many toxic memories in her past, she only wanted to move toward the future. Then, the woman who birthed her died and now instead of celebrating graduating from college, she was back in Hope Crest to deal with the past. She thought she would be in and out but of course her mother had to f*ck her over one last time…
Evan Ashton needed to move out of his parents’ home. STAT. And he does just that the same day he asks his sister to rent her old home. What he didn’t expect was to find August already there. And now, he had a temporary roommate. One he never expected to want so badly. And one who apparently had a teenage crush on him years ago. He didn’t know her well back then but he wants to know more about her now. First, he needs to break the wall around her. Brick by brick.
Carrie absolutely killed it with this one. I loved August in the previous books, and so happy that she got her own book. And Ashton, he is the baby of the family and also has a lot to prove. I love how both of them work so hard for their passions. Their journey isn’t easy but worth it. I am sad this is the last in the series but so happy about all the happily ever afters. ❤️
August returns to Hope Crest after graduating college to take care of her mother’s affairs after she passed away. August had a difficult relationship with her mom, who was emotionally abusive and manipulative. Throughout high school, she took solace in her job at Hope Pizza, the restaurant owned by the infamous Ashton family. Now, she’s back and finds out that her mom left her with thousands of dollars in debt. In comes Evan Ashton. He is the chef at Hope Pizza and August's childhood crush. The two of them end up being roommates after some familial meddling 😉
I have been waiting for this book ever since I read Honeyed, Warren and Alana’s story, and how they secretly helped August get a full ride into college. And it didn’t disappoint! This book broke my freaking heart! Now, it didn’t necessarily go into full detail about what August had endured with her mom, but it was still heartbreaking. The one person who is meant to love you unconditionally doesn’t and makes your life unbearable. Evan finally learns as to why his dad rejects all his knew recipes for their restaurant. You could feel the love every person in the Ashton family had for August and Evan, and how much they supported her when she needed it, especially Warren and Alana. Evan slowly breaks down August’s walls and she is finally able to let someone care for her, help her, and love her the way she needs. I enjoyed Evan and August’s story so much!
*4 stars* I am late to the party as this is my first read by the author but better late than never. I really enjoyed this story and even though it was my first one, you can easily read it as a standalone even if it's part of a series. It definitely won't be my last one as I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I loved the banter and chemistry between Evan & August but also the family dynamic of everyone that was surrounding them. There were some emotional moments that had me on the verge of tears but it also has uplifting and romantic moments. A great read!
As August returns home to deal with her mother's estate, it brings a lot of memories above water that she's not really ready to deal with but she powers through it. Friends are ready to help her but she's determined to do it on her own. When her friend offers her a place to stay, she does take the chance with both arms but when there's an unexpected houseguest she's suddenly very aware of his presence. It's been a long time that Evan has seen August but it brings up a lot of memories. As they are working out their current situation, August gets herself a job to be able to pay off the debts her mother has made but it's not always easy to move on from what she has been through. As Evan & August live together, their relationship starts to change and feelings start to show but there's a looming threat near her. Will everything work out in the end?...
Now this is a hometown where everybody knows everybody and for August Percy it can also bring back tough memories. All she wanted was a life of her own, one that is not haunted by her bad mother but one where she has a control in it. It's been years since she stepped into the town, some things are the same and yet different in a way she never expected. One big thing is seeing her secret crush Evan Ashton working as head chef in the family restaurant. He ins his own way is also trying to be something that his family doesn't see or in this case appreciate. All he wants it show he can be counted and trusted with the family business. The Ashtons were and still is the only family where she felt loved but she knew it was not permanent. Being back with them she is seeing things have changed, grown and a betrayal she never saw coming. Evan is total opposite from her yet in a way she feels the most connected with him. Seeing August go through what she did was tough but in a way it made her who she is now, a fighter. Evan see's a woman who is afraid to really feel because of a past she can't forgt but seeing him show his love towards her was just beautiful. They may not have started all lovey dovey but Carrie Aarons just shows us a love they nurtured, grew and build together a life that August never thought was possible. Loved it.
"I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own."
I think August and Evan might just be my favorite couple from the Ashton Family series. Hearty is the last book in the series and it’s the perfect conclusion to this family’s story.
August has always had a crush on Evan but he was older and away conquering the culinary world only to return home right as August was leaving for college. Four years later, August returns to her hometown with plans to settle her mother’s affairs and close that chapter of her life for good and then move on. But life isn’t fair and August finds herself staying in Hope Crest longer and now roommates with Evan. At first, Evan couldn’t see why his family was so in love with August since they hadn’t spent much time together in the past but that all changed and now Evan can’t imagine his world without her even if she already has one foot out the door.
Evan showed up big time for August in both small and big ways and during major events that it was impossible for her not to see his true intentions and fall in true love with Evan. August provided a comfort for Evan he didn’t think he needed or wanted outside of the kitchen and he truly felt seen. These two complement each other so well it was never any doubt that wouldn’t end up together.
