Tragedy struck Marcus two years ago and he's been all but flailing since. When Avery is pushed into his life, he can't help but watch and try to figure out how to keep her. She's got his feathers all ruffled.
Ruffled Feathers is an extra steamy, sweet, mistaken identity paranormal shifter romance short. It is part of the Fourteen Shades of Red limited edition Valentine’s Day romance collection, including stories by:

First and foremost, I'm a lover of all things romance, especially if there's a monster sprinkled in there somewhere 😉
I write steamy (and sometimes quirky) bite sized insta-love tales of monsters and magical creatures that are on a journey to find their one true match.
I work full time and am also a wife and mom - always outnumbered by two boys!
This was a whole new type of read for me, a bird shifter. A love bird at that 👀
Avery and Marcus have an insta-love relationship, but he keeps certain things from her which causes her to rethink things through. But she realizes that no matter what, she is drawn to him.
Their love story is super cute and fun! If you're looking for a cute, quick, paranormal shifter insta-love romance, this is it for you!
Super Quick and easy to read paranormal bird shifter to human! I haven’t read this specific type of shifter before and I loved it! You feel for the MMC background 🥹 I’m happy the FMC understood in the end. Also Laney? A real one for sure 🤣

(I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review)
This is a perfect fit for readers who crave a sweet and steamy paranormal romance on Valentine's Day, with a dash of shifter magic, secrets, and insta-love, all wrapped up in a short and sweet 9k-word package.
Ruffled feathers is a fast paced sweet novella, Elliot always brings us into a special world with her stories and characters. I love me some shifter action but this one was different for me it opened my eyes to more types off shifter than your average Bear, wolf etc. And I loved it..
In this book we get to meet Avery and Marcus. Avery is the head medical receptionist at her local hospital and Marcus is a handyman, the pair have been dating for a couple months now. But Marcus has secrets and is scared to tell her incase he loses her.
Avery thinks it's odd how she's never invited over to Marcus's and that they always go to hers, but she shrugs it off.
She's been asked by her neighbour to look in on her cat, so she does after work everyday and gets to chat to the lovely love bird that comes to visit in the neighbours home, she's told the bird so much of her life and what's happening.
"Come here, let's get that pretty little P***y f****d, just the way you want."
One day after work she's checking in on the cat , feeding etc just as she's about to leave she hears a truck coming up the drive. She's excited as she will finally get to meet who's been living in her neighbours garage space thing. She's shocked to find out that it's Marcus, she feels hurt and lied too..so much more happens in this book but I'm not spoiling it for you all. So go grab yourself a copy of the book, I highly recommend it.
“RUFFLED FEATHERS” is one of the short stories to be found in the FOURTEEN SHADES OF RED limited edition Valentine’s Day romance collection. Other author contributors are: Maia Terry, Bella Leigh Michaels, Eliza Anne, Dani Elias, Amanda Bentley, Elliot Ason, Luna Knight, Kelsey Woods, K.M. Gillis, Effie Campbell, Valerie Pepper, J.L. Quick, Irene Bahrd, and Lexi Gray. Below is a brief highlight of “Ruffled Feathers”, although the entire collection will offer a variety of many additional tropes to the reader for your enjoyment. But this story seemed unique and interesting to highlight.
*** Highlighting “❤ ♥ RUFFLED FEATHERS” by Elliot Ason *** Ruffling His Feathers . . .
Marcus, a bird shifter, is very attracted to Avery. He has basically been stalking her in his lovebird form, letting her confide all sorts of things in confidence which could be embarrassing, especially the parts about how she feels about the “other version” of him. He should probably have talked to her about his shifter status before they got too far into a relationship, because honesty and trust is a very important foundation for keeping a relationship successful. Trying to cover things up lead to unanswered questions and doubts. Will discovering that he has misled her be enough to make her break things off with him? Or will they realize that they already care for each other and can get over the (temporary) secrecy and move ahead?
Overall Rating: 4/5 Spicy Rating: 2/5 Genre: Paranormal Romance Tropes: Instant Love, He falls first, cinnamon roll MMC (is this a trope?)
Main Characters: Marcus & Avery
This was a cute paranormal romance about two goofballs just falling in love. I will say, this is not the FIRST paranormal romance I have read BUT it is the first bird shifter romance novel I have read.
Marcus has been drawn to Avery from the moment he saw her. He actually kept putting himself in situations and circumstances that he would run into Avery on purpose. How does he know where she is all the time you ask? (That is where the paranormal aspect of all of this comes into play). Marcus can shift into a bird, and I don’t want to say him and his bird have been stalking Avery, but if the wings fly…
Once Avery learns his secret, will she still love him and want to be with him OR is this secret enough for her to walk away with some regrets? You guys are just going to have to read to figure it out!
This was a nice and quick read and it is the perfect length to get you into the cheesy love ball mood for Valentine’s Day! You can definitely read it in one day or one sitting. It can be found in the Fourteen Shades of Red Romance Collection!
ARC Review! Thank you to the author for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The premise of this one was a cute idea. This is my first paranormal romance in a few years, and I’m usually more of a werewolf kinda gal. However a bird shifter is such a cute idea and one I’m really into! I would love if I could read a whole novel about it honestly! However I’m glad this was only a novella because I had a few major problems with it.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
I am really not into Marcus. Lying to Avery about where he lived, knowing she came to Laney’s house all the time, was so creepy. Lying to her about his bird form made sense to me, but I know if I were in that situation, my trust would be completely broken. He spent so much time with Avery beforehand as a bird and when Avery admitted she had said so much to him in his bird form I was like nope nope nope!
Knowing near the beginning that he stalked her from afar was just giving me the biggest ick and I couldn’t get past it the whole book. When he came to check on her later after their fight as a bird, I was so pissed because I had already clocked him as a creep. I know that some people might have found it cute but this was just not for me.
This is a side note, but leading into a spicy scene with nothing but a character uttering “I’m ready for you to be inside me” was also really gross to me, especially as she said it to what I felt like was a creepy stalker.
I really do think the idea of a bird shifter is a great one. I’d love to see this explored again, with a main character that is anyone but Marcus.

This was such a cute , fast-paced , insta-love short story to read.

Thank you so much for the Opertunity to read this book 💖

I loved this story of Avery and Marcus and the continuation from the story of “Ally Knotted Up” the Christmas novella characters and the Reindeer Cafe getting mentioned form that too! I love the author kept the same type of story line in this book as well! Marcus and Avery have been dating for a month and plan on going on a little trip for Valentines Day! But after their dinner/overnight stay she finds out something about Marcus she really wasn’t expecting, now Avery has to figure out if she can really love someone who has kept some secrets from her. This was a really fun story that kept me enticed throughout and read it all in one sitting! If you love sweet and spicy, paranormal romance, shifter, insta-love then this novella is for you!
__________________ ❤️ "A love bird in love. Well isn't that music to my ears. Maybe love really isn't just for the birds." __________________ Ruffled Feathers is a novella in the Fourteen Shades of Red series. This is another short and sweet novella in this collection. I love Avery and Marcus. I'm typically not into the paranormal/shifter type romances, but there's so much to love about Marcus. And I'm a sucker for the pet name "little bird."
I also love how even though these novellas are written by different authors, there are some little "Easter eggs (if you will") along the way that intertwine the locations or characters - for instance the Reindeer Cafe reference, which is also in "When You're Mine" by Luna Knight.
Avery and Marcus have an insta-connection relationship. However he has secrets he is keeping from her which causes her to rethink things. Does she love him and want to be with him OR is this secret enough for her to walk away with some regrets? Maybe love really isn’t just for the birds.
This was an adorable little novella. Avery has such a kind animal loving soul and Marcus is just a big ol’ cinnamon roll. Yes it was wrong of Marcus to stalk and lie to Avery however, his reasoning is sound. The poor man just wants to be wanted. I loved this little novella so much I wish it was a full length novel. I did love the epilogue also!
I read this book as an eARC, courtesy of Happily Booked PR, though all thoughts, feelings, and opinions are my own.
This was a sweet one involving Marcus, the shifter love bird, and his fated mate, Avery. They’ve been dating only a couple of months, but Marcus has known Avery in bird form for a year. When they take their relationship to the next level, she gets a surprise she hasn’t bargained for.
This was a very quick read, with shifter and instalove tropes, and a little spice as well. I liked their unique relationship. Marcus is such a sweetheart!
Thanks to Elliot Ason and Happily Booked Pr for the ARC of this book.

This novella is a part of the Fourteen Shades of Red Valentine’s Day romance collection. This short read involves a shifter that rarely, if ever, gets to be the MMC in a romance. Marcus is a Lovebird and is in love with Avery (FMC). Unfortunately, she does not know that he is the lovebird that greats her when she goes to her friend’s house to check on her cat.
This is a cute read and I just loved Marcus. He was a total sweetheart. Avery was a nice compliment to his personality. This story had a great blend of steamy and sweet.
This was the first time I have read this author, and I am quickly adding more her stories to my TBR.
Super short and fast-paced shifter romance. When Marcus spots his mate, he does all he can to get to know Avery - "chance meetings", knowing where/when to be, where she works and what goes on - and his source for that knowledge comes indirectly from Avery herself! Avery and Marcus hit it off and begin to date, but she doesn't know Marcus's secrets - finding out one upsets her, but she's quick to forgive - leading to a very hot and spicy "sleepover". After what seems like a great night turns to confusion and chaos when she discovers his other secret - he's not entirely just human. Marcus begs her to give them a chance and she has to decide whether or not their love is worth it all!
Ruffled Feathers is a short and steamy, whimsical, bird shifter, Valentines themed romance. Avery is a medical receptionist at a local hospital. Marcus is a hunky handyman and her boyfriend. Unbeknownst to her, he is also a bird shifter. What will happen when Avery finds out? Will she still want to be with Marcus? The couple had great chemistry, and after a little angst, we got a very happy ending. Elliot always writes amazing, short, and spicy whimsical stories, and this did not disappoint. I loved that Reindeer Cafe was mentoned too. 😀.

THIS IS BOOK SIX FROM FOURTEEN SHADES OF RED VALENTINES DAY ROMANCE NOVELLA COLLECTION SERIES.
AHHHHH, I loved this so freaking much. Paranormal/Fantasy/Shifter is always my favorite genre. This was no different. It was so sweet and loving. It did have the 3rd act thingy but it was resolved beautifully. Ahhh, I have no words. I loved it so so so much. 😍😍😍

PS. I would've loved to see some action in the shifted form, but the relation Avery established with Marcus' animal was so pure and beautiful in itself, so I was satisfied, nonetheless.
This one is more of a unique shifter book in my opinion. It's got a little twist with a bird shifter but not any aggressive bird breeds but a cute little bird that turns into one heck of a man. He goes from cute and sweet to handsome and handy. I love the dynamic between Avery and Marcus. When he breaks her trust I felt so bad for both of them cause I get why she felt betrayed but he was protecting himself the best he could also. With it being such a unique shifter novella my only wish was for it to be longer but overall I really loved it!!
This was sweet and spicy with a cute paranormal twist. I have never used the phrase “cute paranormal twist” so it gets points for originality from me.
Marcus and Avery are dating and falling in love. But Marcus has a secret that could affect everything. The chapters alternate between the points of view of Marcus and Avery. The author, Eliot Ason, makes a point to say the novella is supposed to be lighthearted fun at the beginning. As a quick spicy read, it was fun and lighthearted, just as Ason intended.
Ruffled Feathers is part of the Fourteen Shades of Red series. This was such a cute read. I love shifter romances, but I was not expecting the shifter in this story, which isn’t a bad thing at all, just surprising. It’s a quick and lovely story that will leave you wanting more of Avery’s and Marcus’s story! I ready for the next book in this series, and I definitely will read more of Elliot Ason’s books!
As always be mindful of any trigger warnings what I like you may not.
This was a new type of book for me to read about shape shifters and Paranormal. It was a cute read about a bird shifter, and the relationship between Avery and Marcus is cute 😍
I would give this book a 3.75 as it's not something I've read before and wasn't much spice in. But rounded up to 4 😊
Definitely will be reading more books like this.
Thank you to both Elliot and Happily Booked PR for allowing me to read this Novella. Even though I received this as an ARC, this review is of my own and left voluntarily
This was such a fun, sexy, heartwarming story! Even though it was short, the characters were well-written and lovable. I enjoyed the avian-shifter aspect, and that Avery was able to forgive Marcus quickly without the usual agony of dragging out her anger and resentment.
Well-done, Elliot Ason! Thank you for allowing me to read your work a little early. I can’t wait to read more!

I loved this very sweet and spicy novella! Avery has been dating Marcus for 2 months - she is very into him but he is hiding a big secret… he is a bird shifter and has no clue how to tell her. Understandably, Avery knows he’s keeping something from her but would never have guessed what it was.
I thought these two have such a lovely relationship, minor deception aside! I loved their east going chats and how Marcus is totally in from the get go. I especially loved the way she and his animal communicated (unknowingly!). It’s a genuine, sweet read and perfect for Valentine’s Day!
It was short, and Okay-ish, if you can get past the fact that he lied to her for the entirety of their relationship, and I don’t mean just the shifter shit, that I would understand, but he lied to her about where he lived, and about all the information he got out of her in bird form. Getting close to someone as a bird without them knowing is as bad as hacking information about them without their consent. That’s the part that creeped me out. It’s not OK to stalk someone, stalkers aren’t hot. Stop romanticizing them.
This quick, steamy insta-love story was nice. Not my favorite, but fun. When I think of a shifter story, I think of wolves, bears, panthers, dragons, etc. I don’t think of love birds, but to each their own. In my app, this story is only 66 pages long. There is one steamy scene, lies, shock, forgiveness and HEA.
