Elle's way of dealing with the biggest mistake of her life has her hitting rock bottom, but instead of wanting to get facing it and moving past it, she thinks the answer is to keep on trying to forget about it, and bury herself in a bottle. Even with rehab, she thinks her mistake is just too unforgivable. Even her longtime boyfriend Pauly, isn't as supportive as she needs him to be and is the first to point out to her about her downfalls. She meets Hart during one of his many stints in rehab. He has his own share of mistakes, and he's fighting his own brand of demons. Neither Elle nor Hart can deny the strong pull towards their friendship - even though neither of them is at the point where it's difficult for them to open up completely and honestly with each other.
I really like this story. Elle's story was heartbreaking and there were so many instances where I just wanted to smack her friends and her family. Pauly definitely needed a shakedown, as did her brother Nick and her dad. Hart though stole the story for me. I know he's been dealt a hard hand all of his life and has made so many wrong decisions, especially lately but if you can get to the other side of his walls, it's easier to understand why he does what he does. I loved his friendship with Jesse as that was his safety zone and Hart knew that Jesse loves him enough through thick and thin to be able to call him out of his actions and even give him a little bit of hope that things will work out okay after all.
I'm a big fan of Holly Hood. I'm not sure what I was expecting with this book, but what I got was not it. I was pleasantly surprised. Anonymous is a gritty, painful, and raw tale of addiction, but it's also a tale of hope. Elle is broken. There is no other way to describe her. She's made some very bad decisions and is now paying the price for them. Her way of coping is alcohol. Hart has his own struggle with addiction and after countless trips back to rehab is ready, or so he thinks, to overcome his demons. Can 2 people who are both immensely damaged be just what the other needs to heal? Is love stronger than addiction? Anonymous takes you on an emotional road, but I recommend it. It's not about flowers and butterflies, but is well worth the read. 5 stars for this raw and real, love story!
This story involves some hard truths and tough love. Elle killed her best friend. Accidentally, of course. Or was it?
Elle and Stephy were young and decided to sneak out the house and hit up a party. Everything was great until the party seemed to grow and intensify. Elle made the decision to drive and she woke up later with news that her best friend was dead as a result of a drunk driving accident, she was the driver. How does someone overcome that? Well, for Elle, the only way she can escape the pain and harsh reality of what she has done to her best friend and the town's sweetheart is submerge herself in booze. Elle is consumed by guilt and remorse.
Hart is a man that is stubborn to the core but willingly gives up on himself every chance he gets when others, or the World, let's him down. He has been to rehab many times, so this time shouldn't be any differently, right? Wrong. This time, he woke up in the hospital after partying so hard he nearly killed himself from an overdose. So now he's back at the rehab center and he is fixated on the one girl in the place that is worse off that he feels: Elle.
The storyline was good. The editing could be a bit better in some areas but for the most part, it was a decent read. Thank you, Holly Hood, for allowing me the opportunity to read your book in exchange for an honest review.
I got the opportunity to read and provide an honest review of Anonymous.
Anonymous is a story of a young girl that struggles to move forward when a tragedy takes away the one person that is closet to her.
She struggles with the reality that the decisions she made that tragic night will forever change her life. She swallows her demons with alcohol so she doesn't have to live through the pain she consistently feels. She walks in the shadows of who she once was until she is forced to live in the present. All she wants to do is forget. Wake up from the nightmare that has held her captive for so long.
Rehab! Rehab is where she is going. A place that she doesn't want to go because she knows she will have to face the demons she tries to keep buried. She fights it at first but when another patient takes a liking to her, her walls start to crumble and make her vulnerable for the world to see her pain.
Hart is in Rehab for the sixth time. He has his own demons that he is struggling with. He takes an interest in Elle. The new girl. The one that hides from everything and everyone.
You think, two people with different addictions can't be together. They will only enable to each other. But for Elle and Hart, that's the complete opposite. They help each other come to terms with their demons and together they work to over power them and bring them back to life.
Anonymous is about acceptance, love and forgiveness. Accepting that some things are out of our control and forgiving yourself for the poor decisions you made that cost you so much.
This book is a solid 4, almost 5 stars. I would have given it 5 but the ending was a bit of a let down. Not because it was bad because I loved the place both characters were at. It was just abrupt and didn't fit with the flow of the rest of the story.
Plot wise, things were skipped over in favor of characterization which I loved because the characters MADE this book. This story is about two recovering addicts at different stages in the recovery process. They both want to be in that good place where they aren't afraid of their demons anymore.
Elle was a breath of fresh air, she didn't blame anyone else but herself for the bad choices that ultimately landed her in rehab. She still feels an immense amount of guilt but she's determined to stay clean and find her place in life.
Hart, I can't even express how I felt about him, he was my stand-out character. He was a good person who screwed up repeatedly, hated himself for it but didn't know how to stop. He broke my heart with every self-loathing thought he had and I wanted to reach in the book and hug him. He has a beautiful outlook on life for everyone else but himself. He encouraged Elle to not be so hard on herself and to let go of her demons but something he couldn't do for himself.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast but highly emotional read.
This was an amazing story that touches several poignant topics in society. Drugs and alcohol and the effects that it has not only on the person who is abusing but also all family and friends. Reading this story about the lives of two people who have suffered through a lot with their addiction. Elle went to a party with her best friend and may the worst decision possible driving drunk which lead to the death of her bests friend, Stephy. After spiraling out of control blaming herself for the death she ends up in rehab. Wanting nothing to do with anyone and just wants to die herself she meets Hart, another patient who has been in and out of read for years. Hart is self destructive with drugs and alcohol and sabotages anything that could be possibly good in his life. That is until he sees Elle in rehab. He sees something in her eyes, nothing. She seems to have no reason to want to live. The story continues with the ups and downs of how Elle and Hart battle their demons outside of rehab and the possibility of finding happiness with the one person who could change everything. I absolutely loved reading this story and refused to put it down until I was completely done.
I was given an ARC copy in exchange for a review so here goes.... I really liked this book. I first started it, it took me a bit to get into it but eventually it all started to settle.
Elle and Hart are two really broken people who happen to be in rehab together. Hart is determined to break Elles shell but she is very stubborn and wants to live within her misery. After several weeks of constantly trying, Hart finally gets to her a bit.
Once Elle is out of rehab, she tries to go back to life but finds herself constantly running into Hart. I love how Holly puts Hart at a lot of places Elle goes! Yes I know its stalkerish I wouldn't mind being stalked by him :-)
Pauly was such a jerk for a boyfriend and needed to go. Every time he opened his mouth to Elle, it made me want to punch him in the face! Definitely team Hart...
With all that Elle and Hart face together, I was happy with how everything turned out for them. It was an emotional book when you read some of her memories of what happened, but it helps the reader to see her feelings. Another great book from Holly and extremely happy she let me read it :-)
What we have done is not who we are. We all make mistakes, one mistake doesn't make us a bad person. Mistakes are what makes us learn and grow whether the mistake is ours or someone else's. One mistake doesn't need to ruin your life. All these thoughts come to mind after reading Holly Hood's Anonymous. Elle caught up in grief and guilt over choosing to drink and drive which causes the death of her best friend, Stephy. She believes the whole town hates her. Elle is remanded to rehab for treatment. This is where she meets Hart and a friendship is born. He is the only one that makes her feel better about herself. Hart a drug addict who comes from a broken family feels that no one has ever loved him is drawn to Elle. He wants Elle like nothing else, yet he believes that he just make a mess of their relationship like everything else in his life. This beautifully written love story has the reader routing for the two, heart broken at times and frustrated at other times. Hoping that each will win their struggles and find that when they lean on each other the both can survive their own worst enemy-- themselves.
3.5/5 Stars This book, let me just say that the feels were really overflowing. The story follows Elle Saunders who is forever guilty with the deed of killing her best friend in a drunk driving accident. She's sent to rehab and wants nothing to do with life anymore. There, she meets Hart Allen who literally forces her to get back on her feet. Despite struggling against him, Elle soon finds herself on the road to recovery. After getting out of rehab, there's a lot of things to address. She can't face Stephanie's (bff) parents, old friends, anybody in fear of judgement and rejection. Then Hart shows up and slaps some sense into her. Not literally of course. What Hart doesn't know is that every minute he spends helping Elle, he's also journeying down that healing path even if he doesn't want to save himself. This story is so beautiful in addressing two broken people holding each others' hands and leading each other down the path to love, redemption, and healing. Definitely recommend!!
WOW! This deep pit of emotion the author wrote is not something any of us think about but the reality of the matter is its out there. Hart and Elle are two emotionally lost souls who meet in rehab due to circumstances they brought on themselves. Elle drinks and drives with her best friend in the car and ends up having an accident which kills her best friend. Hart comes from and extremely dysfunctional family which he has used as a reason to screw up his life on many occasions. It seems fate has a reason for placing them in its path and the journey of these two young people will touch a deep recess in your psyche. You will follow their journey through rehab, the expectations of families and friends and their ability to except their mistakes and limitations and follow through change that only they are able to do. This was an excellent book and I look forward to more from this author.
Amazing. Read it in one day. Ellie is trying to cope the tragedy of her best friend's death. It was an accident but everyone hates her. She's in rehab and meets handsome Hart. Hart is also a mess and trying to deal with his drug addiction. Ellie is strong and tries to make a difference. You see how her family treats her as a failure and how strong Ellie becomes and starts changing her life to guide her the right way. Hart doesn't want to help himself. He blames everything on him. He thinks people would do better without him . He tries to push everyone away, he feels he doesn't deserve happiness. Can the both of them save each other? The story deals with tragedy and understanding mistakes, and forgiving. The story deals with today's society and it's so real. I highly recommend the book.
I started this book unsure and not really positive I'd like it. I finished this book floored and in love. This is the first book I've ever read that began in a rehab and I gotta say it all fit together perfectly.
Overall it was an emotional rollercoaster that was thoroughly enjoyable. I felt easily connected to the characters Elle and Hart. Their struggles with addiction felt real along with the healing process.
I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a different romance with good plot and realistic struggles faced by the characters.
I received this book for free for an honest review. I really enjoyed this story. Its about Ellie & Hart two people who end up in rehab together. They both have heartfelt stories. Ellie & Hart end up helping each other. Thank you again for letting me read & review. If you enjoy books with allot of heart check this book out!
I received a ARC copy of this book for an honest review. I am a Holly Hood fan from the start. I will say I was not disappointed with the new addition. I am pleased to see someone actually tell a story of addicts with the pit falls. I am in love with Elle and Hart and I really hope to see more of their story. I would also like to see were Pauley ends up. I will remain a Holy Hood fan!
An unusual book, starts with a Elle entering rehab. Over the following chapters we learn what harrowing events put her there in the first place. Elle makes a friend in Hart a repeat visitor to the rehab unit. The pair form an unlikely friendship as they embark on a life on the outside and face some truly difficult moments.
First off I will admit I had only read The Ink Series and didn't bother to touch my other two books by Holly Hood. Now having read this book I'm like I NEED to read more by Holly Hood. I love her books!
OMG! Elle and Hart's story is amazing and I will admit I didn't put the book down and I finished it in a day. Their story had you feeling you were living it. A page turner that keeps you reading more. I would recommend this book to anyone!
This was a good book. It just proves that good can come from bad if you really want it. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to fill good when they are having a bad day.
**I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review**
In the spirit of honesty... let me say that I find that putting two people who have obvious codependency issues together... well, it doesn't end pretty. While we'd love to believe that they would be able to help one another through their struggle to maintain sobriety from whatever their addiction, it just doesn't work out that way most of the time. But, with that being said, this is a story... it's made up... it's two people who found shape within the authors mind and this is the story that she envisioned for them. And it works!
Elle hits rock bottom. Now, maybe I missed a huge chunk of something along the way, but I never got why she started her downward spiral in the first place. I know that sometimes kids start drinking just because all their friends are doing it... but she seemed like she was harboring some deep, dark secret that made her pick up a drink in the first place. The fact that it wasn't explained doesn't detract from the story... just my own two cents thrown in there :) So she hits rock bottom and gets sent to rehab. It's not where she wants to be and at first she's a complete brat (ok, so I had another word thrown in there, but decided to go with the high road). She doesn't want to talk about it... she doesn't want to relive her tragedy... she doesn't want to be there... period!
Hart is well known in rehab. He's been in and out several times and every time he leaves they hope they won't be seeing him again. Not because he's a horrible person, but because they want him to succeed in staying sober. Hart has a sad back story and you can almost understand why he chose to go down the path he chose to travel. Of course he's an adult and he knows right from wrong... but alcoholics are addicts and once you go down that road, it's a bumpy ride.
Elle's family... yea, I didn't care for them so much. They sort of just had this "get over it" mentality. And dealing with any addiction and dealing with the tragedy she is coming to terms with... well, you don't just "get over" something like that. I think her mom and her brother needed to be in counseling as well to help them learn to help her. But that's just an aside here. And her boyfriend... yea, he's a prick... a major douchebag who doesn't want to begin to understand what's going on inside her head... he just wants her to "get over it"... and have sex with him.
Elle and Hart run into one another on the "outside"... in a bar (because that's where her boyfriend wanted to go... so instead of seeing that this might possibly be a problem for a recovering alcoholic... he wants his way.... yea, he's a real winner!!). And the fun begins from there. Hart is determined to help Elle. His major character flaw... he wants to save everyone but himself. Perhaps he doesn't think he's worth saving. Elle comes to believe that maybe he is worth saving and for once someone needs to fight for him.
There did come a point where I put down the book and walked away. I said to myself "If this ends this way I am going to be so mad" (because really what can you do when a book doesn't end the way you want it to? I guess you could go all stalker crazy, but what does that accomplish??). Now, in order to find out whether I had to give serious thought to going all stalker or if I was satisfied... I guess you gotta read it! LOL
All in all I enjoyed this book. It was a quick read, there is some great dialogue and some really good character development.
I received a free copy of this novel in return for an honest review. I hate to give this book a bad review because I know it's hard to write a novel. I also know it's hard to get a bad review but I did promise honesty, and I hope my comments are helpful, so here it goes.
I couldn't finish this one. It's not that the story was bad or that the characters weren't interesting. It's that the book is poorly written. It is in need of a complete overhaul and a good editor.
Some examples of the problems I found in the book were: 1. Different tenses in a sentence: an example is "Stephy drink too much, so she wanted to leave the party. And so did I." This mistake "drink" instead of "drank" happens all throughout the book, and not just with that word. Problems with "was" vs "were" vs "is". Plurals instead of past. "You're" vs "your" even though it was used correctly in the sentence before, it is subsequently used incorrectly.
2. There are big gaps in the story. When Elle is in rehab it seems like the author just wanted to move onto the next bit in the story and not finish that part. For 10 chapters she tells us about being in rehab and meeting Hart, but then she just skips to getting kicked out into the real world.
Other examples of gaps are: at first Hart's friend has a fiance, then in a matter of weeks or days, she is his wife and there is no mention of Hart going to their wedding. Another is that you get the impression the story takes place when it's cold enough out to wear a coat, but there are outdoor events (picnic and birthday party) that you'd never have if it was that cool outside.
Elle breaks up with her boyfriend, and as she's walking out, after they have been fooling around on the couch, she hands him a necklace, apparently returning a family heirloom he had given her. There is no mention of her taking it off to give back to him. Or did she have it in her pocket and intended to break up with him all along (not what it seemed like at the beginning of the scene). Why even mention the necklace?
And lastly, if the town is so small that everyone knows about Elle's big mistake and what she did, so much so that she can't face them, then how is it she never knew that Hart lives in the same town?
3. There are inconsistencies in how people act with no explanation. Elle's father is cold and mean to her, pushing her to do things she doesn't want to do, and instead of seeing that she is taking positive steps in her life, he tells her she isn't doing enough with her life. Why is he like that? There has to be a little bit of a back story.
Another example is her brother, who in the beginning, we're told, loves her and wants to take care of her. Bust as the story goes on, he is nothing but mean and intolerant of her.
Frankly, when Hart stumbles and falls, I don't understand why that happens. I don't get what the significance of a make-out session abruptly ended has to do with it. Besides, he had his shirt off outside in the cold. Maybe Elle was cold too and that's why she stopped kissing him? Why would that make someone fall off the wagon? I just think there needed to be a bigger reason or explanation for the fall.
Like I said above, the story could be a good one, but it needs a LOT of editing and re-writing. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this potentially good novel.
*** ARC received in exchange for an honest review ***
1 out of 5 Stars - Good plot with mediocre execution: DNF at 58%
Elle Now that I am where I am I see that it doesn't matter what anyone else does, it doesn't make you who you are. It's your own choices that dictate where you end up in life.
Hart Hart was a sucker for boken souls. He always tried to fix everyone else. "She deserves to be forgiven," he said. "She's a good girl."
After being involved in a DD accident that took the life of her best friend, Elle is sentenced to rehab. That's where she meets Hart, who notices her because she is in the same dark place than he is. Both live with guilt, feel numb, worthless and unworthy. But they soon fall for each other and their mutual love and support help them to recover and get over their demons.
The plot was actually not a bad one and the storyline plausible. However, I just believe the whole writing was poorly executed. For starters, there are a few recurring spelling mistakes: "then" is always spelled "than" and the usual your/you're and their/there/they're keep haunting your read. And to make it even worse, there was a really bad lack of punctuation - especially commas. And sometimes, commas are used when it should have been a column or a dash (or a coordinating conjunction).
A few examples of choice, all in one and the same page:
She pressed a school picture of Stephy to her chest, the best friend necklace always got to her. - How about a conjunction here? That phrase is plain weird since there was no mention of a necklace in the last paragraphs...
The music was so loud and people were singing and she was trying to drag her best friend to her car so they could go home. - Where do I get the chance to breathe here? Comma please!
Her phone rang ending any chance of figuring it out. - Missing a comma for a grammatically correct sentence
Also, I am not sure the third person POV structure suits the author. It is a difficult POV to write in, and I would say that the "bad writing" in Anonymous is definitely due to the fact that Holly Hood doesn't master it fully. Some sentences are just weird and chopped off... the text doesn't flow as it would in a Nicholas Sparks novel (I know that's some reference, but I'm trying to make a point).
Well, all in all I agree with the other reviewers that the storyline is good, however this book needs a good editing in order to not frustrate the reader. I can close an eye on some editing errors, but in this case, it was just too much!
**I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review**
Definitely not what I was expecting, but I loved it! 4.5 stars!
Rehab seems to be the most unconvential place for two people to meet and start a love story. But I also feel like its very realistic. People spiral into addiction for all sorts of reasons. Why can't two people who are in difficult situations find eachother and be eachothers' anchors?
I focused less on the unexpected and more on the heartfelt connection of Hart and Elle. Elle is in rehab because she has turned to addiction to cope with a tragedy for which she blames herself. Hart is in rehab because it's the only stability he knows, his struggle has been lifelong.
You can tell these two characters are both good people, so you desperately want them to find happiness. Most therapists would likely tell two addicts fresh out of rehab to stay far away from eachother. Well, it's fiction so I want Elle and Hart to get as close as possible, lol.
There parts of the plot that are very far fetched, but they bind this story together. If it was written differently, it would be a completely different book, so I wouldn't change them.
The story is very well written and the characters are likeable despite their struggles. Addiction is a very dark and hopeless situation. I like to think this story is possible and that two people can come out the other side happy and maintain healthy "normal" lives.

3.5 Stars
Anonymouse is a book at focuses on a touchy subject of addictions. I wasn't really sure how I was going to feel about a book that starts off taking place in a rehab facility. I was acutally really suprised that I did enjoy it.
Elle Saunders is a mess. She makes a huge mistake of driving drunk after a party which leads to the death of her best friend. Instead of working through he issues we see Elle drowning her problems in alcohol and hitting rock bottom.
We get to meet Hart Allen in the rehab facility (his 6th time there) that Elle enters. Hart has is own demons he is working through. He spends most of his time locked in rehab. Deep down he is really a great guy wanting just help and save everybody but this does not include himself.
Once Hart meets Elle things really change. From the time they meet this is this chemistry between the two. Neither Hart or Elle want to recognize it is there. Both mcs feel that they don't deserve to be happy.
This book really had me from the begining, once I got started I just couldn't put it down until the last page. I love that this book touches on real life issues that happen more than what we realize or want to admit. The pain that we watch Hart and Elle go through really touched my heart. I love that we get to see them helping each other to fight their demons.
Overall I really did enjoy this book and will be reading more from this authour.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have to start this by saying that I LOVED this book.
We are introduced to Elle has her mother is getting ready to pack her away and send her off to Rehab. We are not told what right away but we are introduced to her life in Rehab. Elle tells us her story and why she is in Rehab and that is where she meets Hart.
Hart is in Rehab for his 5 or 6 time at this point I think. He is a pro and knows how to work the system. He is the guy that knows he is hot with a soft inside that he doesn't like anyone to know about. There is something about Elle that draws him to her and he doesn't know what it is.
Flash forward, Elle and Hart are now out of Rehab, we don't know how much time has passed, just that Elle's family is behaving as if everything is ok and Rehab never happened. Her boyfriend is constantly talking down to her and treating her terribly and she ends up breaking up with him (Thank Goodness).
As things heat up with Hart and Elle, we are treated to their ups and downs. It is nice to see the further development of the relationship without sugar coating it.
Hart tries quite a few times to push Elle away and the first few times she lets him. It is in the end that she refuses and it turns out that it was a pretty good thing that she did.
This was a great read and I recommend it to anyone that wants a good story with a great HEA.
When I first opened up this book and starting reading, I was thinking, “What is this book about, a girl going into rehab for drunk driving? I don’t think I want to read this”, but I sat down and starting reading anyway. The book grew progressively more and more interesting. It is about Elle Saunders, a girl who with her friend, got so drunk at a party that when they left they had an accident and a tragedy occurred. This could happen to anyone who is drunk and thinks they are OK to drive. Elle’s parents intervened and forced her into rehab because she could not get past that life changing occurrence and kept drinking to forget. At rehab she would not open up to anyone until she meets Hart Allen, also a repeat offender in rehab. He makes her talk and she starts her baby steps toward normalcy. But what is normal for her isn’t the same for anyone else. This is a love story about Elle and Hart, how together they walk the road of rehabilitation, helping each other out and confronting each other’s demons. I really liked this book after the first couple of chapters and grew to admire both Elle and Hart. This book is good for anyone to read and it might stop someone from DUI.

I finished this book a couple of days ago and had to let my thoughts marinate a bit. I gave this book 3.5 stars... I wanted to give it 4 and firmly believe it deserves that if it is edited for grammar and punctuation before it is published. Normally I can overlook these things to some extent, but I found it very distracting and often had to reread sentences because the thought was unclear. There are many, many run on sentences that made me confused, in addition to going back and forth between verb tense. Oftentimes I was confused on whose headspace I was in as well. Again, these things are very fixable and should be taken care of before publishing because the book has good bones! The premise was unique and refreshing. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters and appreciated the author's willingness to delve into the challenges presented in this book. It was lovely to see Hart and Elle finally reach common ground and work toward their happily ever after... An epilogue would be a nice finishing touch! Overall, good book with great potential!

I liked it. So I'm giving it 3 ☆☆☆ Rehab stars!
This book was different. It has real problems. Addictions. Drugs, Alcoholism. Real problems in a real world. This is not a fairy tale" It talks about those second chances we believe we don't deserve. That emotional baggage that sometimes we don't want let go.
Elle and Hart met in Rehab. From my pov they each learn from each other and there's a quote i like: “You are going to make more mistakes in your life."
The story is not that complicated. But i didn't gave it 5 stars because i felt the end was rushed and even thug the story is good, i think it could have been written much better.

The premise behind the story was good and different. Elle and Hart meet in rehab. What is a first for Elle after a devastating event in her life but is a regular occurrence to Hart. They develop a bond and gradually get closer. Then Hart makes a discovery that has him sabotaging their relationship. Can he forgive himself and move forward, would Elle forgive him, will he get the chance to find out?
There are things to like about this book. Unfortunately for me, the editing wasn't one of them. I really struggled initially to get into the book as it jumped pov's every sentence. And then there are a few regular typos which detracted from my enjoyment of the book.
I really hope someone goes through this book and edits it again as it would be a shame if a few issues put people off what is on the whole a decent story.
Without the editing issues, it would have been a 4 star review for me, but incorrect grammar actually lessens my enjoyment of a book.
