**BookFest Spring 2024 Award Winner**

Love never means losing yourself. In I Call Bullshit, Becca tears off the rose-colored glasses that once colored her view of life. This intimate memoir of surviving betrayal and reclaiming her true self—a self she had deliberately pushed aside in an effort to please others—inspires you to invest in rediscovering your own self-worth. Because ultimately, the relationship most worth saving is the one you have with yourself. Becca Christensen worked for years to create an idyllic home far different from the one in which she grew up. She had what she thought was the perfect relationship with the perfect romantic serenades, Christmas at Disney World, and a beautiful new house. Then a phone call changed everything, destroying any illusions Becca had about a happily ever after. She soon found herself nearly drowning in a tsunami of lies.

“I Call Bullshit: Confronting Betrayals and Reclaiming My Self-Worth” by Becca Christensen tells the poignant story of a young woman who was raised in an unhealthy home where her father sought to control his wife and daughters through anger, and by not allowing them to use their voices to speak up when they didn’t feel safe. Becca Christensen spares no details when she discusses her personal journey from childhood through young adulthood. Readers follow along as she discovers betrayal by her first husband who she thought was her lover and her best friend. She reveals how she found her voice and the path she took to find healing and her voice.

By candidly telling her story, Christensen takes us into her world where we relive her intense experiences and the valuable lessons she learned while focusing on healing. She writes in a manner that is engaging and relatable. I read her story in a single sitting because I was so caught up in what she was experiencing. It made me reflect upon my own experiences and I truly wish I had access to this when I was a teenager because it would have empowered me to find my voice much sooner. I would have understood that I had a right to feel worthy. I am hopeful that Christensen’s story will be spread far and wide so that others will be empowered to speak up and know that they are worthy of being treated with respect.

“I Call Bullshit” is structured in a way so that each thought-provoking chapter builds upon the last to create a well-integrated narrative that is both relatable and inspiring. Readers will feel the authenticity and depth that is conveyed in these pages. Her resilience teaches us that after facing horrible circumstances, it is possible to emerge stronger and to be able to look forward to a healthy, happy future.

Overall, “I Call Bullshit: Confronting Betrayals and Reclaiming My Self-Worth,” is a valuable read for women who have struggled with feelings of inadequacy that might have been initiated because of childhood traumas. Women who never learned that it was okay for them to use their own voices. It is for women who have been betrayed and struggled with feelings of inadequacy. Becca Christensen’s honesty and courage in sharing her story will resonate with readers and in turn empower them to make changes in their lives so that they can heal.

Out of the norm of my usual reading but ever so glad I did pick it up.

I had the pleasure of meeting Becca at one of her book signings. She was so sweet and kind and I whole heartedly only wanted to read this book because of her. I wanted to read this because she was putting herself out there, waiting to sign peoples books, and meet readers. I’m so glad I met her.

This book is authentic, real, heart breaking in so many different ways, thought provoking and honest. Becca recounting what she went though and sharing some of her most personal and intimate parts of her life with the world is something I’ll be forever grateful for. She was inspiring in her writing, not hiding a single detail from her readers. I truly feel a little more empowered by her book.

Becca if you are reading this review. Thank you. Thank you for signing my book, thank you for being so kind, thank you for sharing yourself with the world. Thank you, most importantly, for writing this book.

This interesting account of, firstly a tough home life and then a shocking betrayal is written in an open an honest way, telling her story exactly as she experienced it. Becca shares both the ups and the downs of her roller-coaster marriage and ultimately explains step by step how she eventually found her way through to gaining her self esteem and rebuilding her life.
I especially appreciated her "love letters to herself" which I believe is a therapy we could all benefit from. I enjoyed everything about this book except the profanities which is a personal distaste of mine, but then again I am a little "old school"

Absolutely unputdownable!

I am in awe of Becca! The courage it took to write this book and recount the ugly past, but mostly for how she figured out how to move past her less than ideal experiences and make a better life for herself. This book is a must read for anyone who grew up in a dysfunctional family and wants to learn how to break the cycle!

More from this author, please!

I loved this book. A perfect combination of the author's experiences and self-help pointers for life, this book is one for many readers. Ms. Christensen is a survivor and a thriver, which makes her ideally situated to help others through her writing. Her losses in love were tragic, conveying supreme sadness in the accounting. Her gains in self-love are priceless and provide hope for others in similar, yet very different trials. I appreciate the honest sharing of your account, dear author Becca Christensen, and look forward to more of your writing. Perhaps something related to your farm life (something we have in common)? I read this book at once and highly recommend it to those seeking inspiration, encouragement, and hope.

This is the raw, open & honest account of Becca’s life. She details all she went through with her birth family, & subsequently in her first short marriage. It is harrowing & riveting. I read it quickly, there’s an easy writing style. Beware it is triggering! Many of us have existed in similar circumstances. Becca found her voice, you can too. Survival is possible. There is hope. You can thrive!

In I Call Bullshit: Confronting Betrayals and Reclaiming My Self-Worth, Becca Christensen shares her deeply personal story of facing betrayal and finding her true self again. This book is an honest and heartfelt look at how she lost herself while trying to please others and how she learned to value herself above all.

At the start, the author describes a seemingly perfect life with her partner, full of romantic moments and dreams of a happy future. But all of that falls apart when she discovers that her partner has been lying to her. This revelation leads her into a very dark and painful time, where she has to deal with the reality of being betrayed by someone she trusted completely.

What makes this book stand out is author’s honesty. She doesn’t hold back in describing her pain and the difficult journey she went through. She writes about her memories as truthfully as she can, even though they are sometimes hard to relive and might be remembered differently by others. Her openness makes it easy for readers to connect with her and reflect on their own experiences of hurt and healing.

The book is not just about author’s struggles but also about her journey to rediscover her self-worth. She talks about the importance of not comparing our lives and problems to others, but instead focusing on our own paths. The author wants us to understand that everyone has their own difficulties, and it’s important to support each other through them.

A big part of the author’s message is about being kind to ourselves and accepting our own flaws and struggles. She encourages readers to face their discomfort and learn from it, showing that even though our stories might be different, our emotions and experiences are often very similar. This helps us feel connected to others and reminds us that we are not alone.

Becca’s story is about more than just surviving betrayal; it’s about growing from it and finding strength within ourselves. She shows that the most important relationship we have is with ourselves, and that true happiness comes from being true to who we are. Her journey is a powerful reminder that, even after the worst betrayals, we can find a way to heal and become stronger.

For anyone who has ever felt lost or betrayed, I Call Bullshit is a must-read. The author’s story will inspire you to value yourself and take control of your own happiness. Her book is a strong proof of the resilience of the human spirit and a reminder that we have the power to heal and find our true selves.

This was written by a former student of mine.
At first I bought and read the book just to support her, but....
As I high school teacher I see many students who just give up on their existence becausse "it's too hard", "I can't", "I'll never", "I am lonely", etc. I wish they could see more people like Becca who came out the other side. She didn't do it without struggle and loss and sadness, but she did it. This is a remarkable book to learn about true perserverance. Well done!!

I read this book in one sitting. It was hard to put it down. I could relate to just a little of her experiences and therein lay my fascinated read. Such a difficult early home life and then, to grow up and fall in love only to discover she’d made a dreadful mistake—just awful for her. My heart went out to this amazingly brave woman. It must have been very hard to open herself up to tell this story; congratulations to Ms Christensen. It was very well written.
