Hunted By Firelight

Avery
He’s always there, watching and waiting. The golden-eyed wolf who refuses to leave me be.

A part of me yearns for him. Another screams to run.

My memories have been stolen, erasing any recollection of what we once were. Still, I can feel the magnetic pull of my soul to his, and I know without a shadow of a doubt that fate isn't through with us. Not yet.

An ancient evil is on the hunt for me, bringing with it the threat of death.

The only thing I know for sure? Wyatt and I have to work together if I’m going to survive.

Wyatt
It kills me to see Avery like this, so anxious and distrustful. I know I broke her heart once before, but I’ll be damned if I let that happen again.

I have to win her back. I have to earn her trust.

Now, more than ever, she needs me because a prophecy is coming to pass, and the enemy behind it is hell-bent on making Avery their unwilling pawn.

For her, I will fight. I will lay down my life to keep her safe.

The question is, will she stand with me in return?

DNF At 19% (Audio Book)

It hurts my heart to do this but I think this series ends here for me. The plotline is killing me. It's been over an hour and it's still going strong. I've lost count of how many times I've rolled my eyes. As I predicted this one was not an exception to my dislike of that specific trope. Well this sucks for me :/

Krista Street what are you doing??
It’s gets better and better with every book in the series. I’m thrilled with this paranormal romance. The best thing about the book that it is from the both characters POV, which I love.

A looming darkness awaits for Avery and an old prophecy is at work. She has forgotten everything about her past as she died and then came back to life and is emotionally lost, but as the time progresses she acts according to how she feels not entirely what she's told. I love how she questions everything and is always on her guard down. She becomes stronger as the story progresses.

The chemistry between Wyatt & Avery is one to watch out for. Wyatt is so responsible and understanding of all the situations. He’s one humble character that everybody wants in real life.

With darkness circling it’s claws on Avery, I’m now waiting for August 27 for the last installment.

utterly pointless

I hate memory loss plots. 90% of this book resolves around Avery’s memory loss. It’s pointless and unnecessary. Nothing really happens until the last couple chapters and even then it’s not much. This could’ve been a good book. It would’ve been so much better if the focus was on learning her new powers and conflict with the enemy as opposed to hiding and memory loss.

"I'm not going anywhere. I'll always be here wanting you, waiting for you, and hoping that you'll decide that I'm the one for you. But I can't make you want me. I can only hope that you do."

4 stars!

I hate to admit that I didn't enjoy this story as much as the previous two books in the series so far. For me, the amnesia trope can be a bit tricky if the two MCs are apart for too long (I love angst, but I also want the MCs to be together), and that's where this story fell short. I feel like Avery spent too long being wary and unsure of Wyatt even though Wyatt was being so freaking sweet and protective, and it felt liked the plot dragged because of her indecision. Yes, I know it's the whole plot (and obstacle) of this entire story, but I didn't enjoy it. Plus we spend nearly the entire book waiting for answers about Avery's condition and the robed men. However, the last 40% was fantastic, and I am so stoked for the final book in this series!!

Tropes: fated mates, forbidden love, alpha j/p hero, special snowflake heroine, hidden prophecy, cloaked villains, rejected mate, secret pining, magical world, amnesia plot, cliffhanger ending (part of a series), STEAMY🔥

My Wyatt, the werewolf hell-bent on protecting his mate from everything...including himself...

I was a little annoyed with the memory loss for the sake of the plot. But having her remember the idea of a water bed but not what hunger feels like is too much. Lol. I started liking this book again around the 85% mark. So, keep going? It gets back to a good spot eventually?

~4.5 stars~

That ending…WOW. The first half of the book was four stars for me. I thought Avery’s distrust of Wyatt dragged on a bit too long, and I didn’t quite understand her fear of him when she was fine with everyone else. I really enjoyed Wyatt’s determination to never give up on Avery though, and the flow from the previous book to this novel was spot on. Wyatt truly could not be a more amazing alpha hero.

The second half of this novel was superb. There was even more action and suspense than in the previous books, and it was sweet watching Avery and Wyatt’s relationship grow again. The story also had so much depth with jealousy, mystery, the return of old friends, and more. And that ending left me stunned. It was so shocking, so deliciously full of revenge—it was perfect. I absolutely cannot wait for the next book.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this paranormal romance, and it receives my highest recommendations. You can’t go wrong with a Krista Street book!

*I received an ARC of this novel. This is my complete and honest review.*

A great continuation of the series, I really enjoy how the author has managed to maintain the angst and suspension between the characters in this book.
The trust building between characters did feel a little quick but I could roll with it.

World building again was good in this book and plot progression was fantastic answering many questions from the previous book.

Another cliffhanger ending but the last couple of chapters shocked me in the best way possible, I was literally gasping and shouting at my book 😂

Can’t wait for the next

I am all in with this series! I personally love it! I will say if you aren’t big on spice then I wouldn’t read these books cause they are SPICY!!! Only thing I will say is that the author drew out most the action till the end of the third book! I’m guessing the fourth will have the most! I’m ready for some more action within the series. So many things got put into place in this book! Lots of questions answered! I love Wyatt in these books! The possessive, obviously more obsessed, crazy in love werewolf is EVERYTHING!! I love a MMC who is the one more in love than the FMC! I eat it up!
I wasn’t the biggest fan of how this book ended! Kinda pissed me off but I think that was the point! Excited to move on to the last one in the series! Excited to also read more of this authors books!

This was book 3/4, and again I listened on 2.5x speed. Easy listening and decent brain candy.

SERIES NOTES:
I haven't binge-finished a series this fast in a minute! It's definitely an easy listen and on Kindle Unlimited!

I listened to all four of these books in quick succession because they're short, which almost made them better. It is able to hold my attention with quick action scenes and just enough detail to keep it from being a full-on novella short

This series just gets better and better!

In this book Avery has died and been reborn with the magic of a goddess who threw her power into the universe thousands of years ago to avoid a crazy power hungry elf from obtaining her magic.

Poor Avery has lost her memories - she knows the English language but she can’t recall any memories, who she is, who her friends are etc. she can’t even recall what her feelings are called (like the need to urinate or hunger).

Wyatt doesn’t let Averys memory loss deter him from being around her. He is constantly around her wanting to help her through this because she is still his mate even though his mark has gone from her and the bond is broken because she died. He is the ultimate Alpha MC Hero - he works tirelessly to ensure Avery knows who he is and he doesn’t push her into anything she doesn’t want to do which I find admirable.

We see Charlotte from the two previous books take on her first assignment which is to help keep Avery safe. We meet the rest of Squad Three and we are introduced to the typical jealous mean girl in the shape of a siren. She has previously been with Wyatt and therefore she acts impulsively (we find out this is because she needs to go back to the ocean as she has been away too long and she isn’t acting rationally) by drugging her and Nicolas with a sex drug while they are in the small safe house space.

During the time in the safe house we find out what happened between Nicolas and Wyatt and why the dislike each other. I wasn’t expecting that to be the reason at all.

Unfortunately despite all the SF’s efforts Avery is captured by the Elf who wants her new magic and it ends on a hell of a cliffhanger once again.

I am loving the character development (or in this case deterioration of Averys character). The story line is great and the book flows at a steady pace, nothing is done too quickly that I didn’t understand things or too slow that I became bored. I can’t wait for the last book and if it is anything like these last book it will be spectacular.

I skimmed this book starting halfway to the end. Basically the whole book is 3 days or so of time and sooooo drug out that something evil is after Avery. I had to do the biggest eye roll when she convinced Wyatt to go back and rescue Charlotte and of course that’s when she encounters the evil man from her dreams. Of course, the siren is going to do something bad to her. Of course, she’s back to all the angst of where she doesn’t get with Wyatt, and then she does, and then nope taken again. I just got so annoyed. I don’t think I’ll be reading the next book.

Still hanging with the series, although I think it is pretty shallow…
Spoilers ahead…
The book begins with Avery in a magical dome she has created to protect herself from Wyatt in the Fae Realm. She doesn’t know who she is, let alone anyone else. Charlotte shows up from SF Headquarters, a friend and fellow trainee from the former books, and eventually wins over Avery. Avery releases herself from the dome, but still can’t remember anything. Avery slowly begins to trust Wyatt, but still has no memory of their former relationship. Wyatt tries very hard to be patient with her while still being fiercely protective. Avery begins to have dreams of The Sacred Circle made up of an ancient elf returned from a dormancy and a group of evil warlocks. She has determined they are coming for her.
They go to an inn to spend the night and the elf lord and warlocks come to take her. The group creates explosive spells that destroy the building. This particular scene is one of the strongest in the series I believe… The spells of the circle unleash chaos everywhere and the SF members become separated while they try to flee. At one point both Wyatt and Charlotte become incapacitated and Avery is taken by the warlocks. She breaks free with explosive power (which she actually doesn’t know how to wield) and actually stops time while she flees. This new power (which we learn later has been bestowed on a worthy heir from a captured Goddess) allows her to pick up both Wyatt and Charlotte and run to safety before time begins again.
The entire group reunites and decides to escape and hide in Bavar’s (fae prince) castle in the Shroud Forest temporarily. They take magic carpets (yes, I said that) to the castle, not without a fair amount of drama as creepy monkey sprites attack the convoy. Once safely in the castle, Wyatt and Avery share a room and rekindle their romance, although Avery still can’t remember much of her life before.
The Elf Lord returns to her dreams, in spite of the forest and wards, and discovers where she is hiding. The Sacred Circle attacks the castle while members of the SF try and fight them off. For safety, Avery is put in a room with a vampire named Nicolas (in former books). Sadly, they are poisoned by beverages/food left for them to pass the time. (It is thought this was an act of jealousy by the siren that works with the SF that still harbors feelings for Wyatt.) The poison seduces them and Nicolas begins to do what vampires do…and Avery 100% into it. Wyatt returns to get them and completely loses control. Things are murky here as we are being told the story through Avery’s POV and she has a warped sense of reality. At the very least, we know Wyatt rescues Avery and then begins to flee the castle.
As Krista Street has done in all the other books in the series, we are left with a cliffhanger as the Elf Lord overcomes Wyatt, captures Avery, and escapes through a portal with her to an unknown destination.
This book has been the steamiest of the three I have read so far. I don’t mind the spice, but I wish there was more depth to the novel. Whether it is gratuitous sex or violence, it always deters from my overall enjoyment of a story. At times, the fantasy aspects of the plot/characters felt like shallow excuses to write the steamy scenes. The spice was stronger than the story and that never seems to improve a literary work. That being said, Avery and Wyatt are likable and have been consistent leads which I’ve appreciated.
I do wonder why Wyatt has never turned into a wolf in the 3 of the 4 books I’ve read. There are many references to his “wolf” inside and it seems strange that at some point he wouldn’t shift given all the danger the characters have been exposed to…maybe it is coming in the fourth. I am about to see. I pray this is the best of the 4!

Really loving this series!!!

The books are short enough that I'm blowing through them. The story is so good and each book has its own new problem that Avery and Wyatt must face.

Without her memory Avery is scared, confused but her body knows things and her mind tries to help her but everytime something seems to light up on remembrance it disappears.

Wyatt is crushed, he finally marked her and not only has his mark vanished but so did any memory Avery held of him. She's terrified of him and his heart breaks everytime she looks at him.

Just when things are looking up for our FMC and MMC a new threat appears. One that no one understands and magic that hasn't been seen for thousands of years. The threat only has one goal in mind.. Capture Avery.

I could've easily rated all 3 books at 5 stars. But this one did it for me. There was angst, romance, pain, fear.. a little bit of everything. Watching Wyatt try so hard to make Avery fall in love with him all over again was amazing. Having Avery trying to understand feelings and grappling with the pain her memory loss was causing those around her.

Throw in an evil group out to get her with a possessive alpha wolf and a ex gf with a mean streak and it was exactly the right drama. The spice is amazing. I may not always like certain words that authors use but I mean you can't just keep putting 😼 and lips every few sentences. So I can deal. The way she describes the 🍆 is also a nice detail, leaving a good bit still for us to imagine but giving enough detail that you can imagine it.

I'm sad that I'm headed into the last book. I would've loved for a longer series but then again at the cliffhanger we are left with we know the finale is coming.

I started this series solely because my KU ran out (grownup bills suck) and this was on Prime Reading. So I downloaded it. Sometimes it's a hit or miss with books like this, so I didn't really take an interest in fully reading it. But now good God this author has gained a new follower!

The author does an incredible job, the writing style is what I call easy reading, it's not over complex it's just good. I would say similar to the writing in Fourth Wing. Simplistic yet incredibly enjoyable. I plan on reading more from this author!

1.5-2 stars max. You’ve got to be kidding me…this author has a natural propensity to include the bottom of the barrel tropes. Thankfully the audiobooks are super short because I can’t seem to escape the tropes I don’t like and yet I also am now determined to finish up the series and see where this dumpster fire is headed at last.

Spoilers (though it’s briefly mentioned in the last book):

She has amnesia…which don’t even get me started on how much I hate that trope, but seriously? She can’t remember anything, except how to talk, but not sensations like what it feels like to need to pee or be hungry? Really? Bodily functions she can’t remember but language she can? And of course she can’t identify emotions at all and misinterprets her feelings for Wyatt as something alarming and to be feared hahahaha that is until like two days go by and the fucking spree occurs. Give me a break…Omg what is this feeling I have when the hot guy comes in? Hmmmmm?

As you can imagine, Avery is very annoying in this book, especially when the oh so popular petulant argument “I have all this power, but don’t know how to wield it, but let me stay here and fight anyways despite being a walking liability to everyone around me” comes out and she doesn’t let it go.

Actual spoilers:

Almost got a trope I liked, the one bed trope…but she ruined it…

Also if you hate almost rape and roofie situations, you’ll hate this book.

I will say, I find it hilarious that basically every time they fucked someone heard them hahahahaha so awkward.

All in all, this WHOLE series could have been one book, maybe two, max. Didn’t need to be four. The actual “action,” as predictable as it was, finally started so I guess I’ll see what terrible tropes await me in the final book.

Okay, sooooo, I already mentioned this in my review of the second installment in the Supernatural Institute series, BUT, as a reminder…I absolutely DESPISE memory loss troupes. Like completely hate them…like, a lot🙈 With that said, this was a hard read for me, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt 🧂

Per usual, Krista Street’s writing was wonderful and easy to breeze through, not to mention, her world-building was insanely stellar 🌎 I love the general storyline (minus the memory loss thing), and where the plot is headed with Avery’s building power💥 Wyatt, as anticipated, was a gem and I couldn’t get enough of his alpha wolf vibes 💎 Plus, we learned a little more about his background and the origin of his issues with Nicholas. SO much happened in the character developing stages of this book and I loved seeing Wyatt grow in his devotion and love to Avery.

With that said, I really really could not stand Avery in this installment…I hate to say it, but it’s true 😔 She was just so scared of Wyatt in this one that it was painful to read. I zoomed through it because I couldn’t take one more second of her inner monologue. It sounds terrible, I know. Don’t hate me for it 😣 I typically connect so deeply with the FMC, but it wasn’t happening in this one☝🏽I am truly praying that the memory loss doesn’t drag too far into the next installment, because I really miss the old Avery ☹️

Now, to find out what this elf’s plan is and why Marnee decided to drug Avery and Nicholas…🤨

It pains me to say this book is the end of the road for me with this series. I really enjoyed the first two books, but then things went totally sideways in this one. It’s as if the author decided to scrap the original plot line and start over, only its book three… so just toss in amnesia and wipe the slate clean so you can start over 🙄

So here we are on book three and not only do we have the storyline that’s been building in the previous books laying sort of dormant in the background, but now she’s essentially an infant. She apparently needs to learn body functions, she got scared by the sound of a text message alert, has no idea what supernaturals even are, is actually terrified by her mate … you get the point. We might as well be back on book one 🙄

I’m not a fan of amnesia tropes in general, which is part of my issue I’m sure. But not only does she forget her mate, she literally forgets EVERYTHING but how to speak English.

“It’s been 12 hours. Don’t you have to eat, or drink, or pee or something?”

Pee?? I squirmed again. Is that what’s been causing that very uncomfortable feeling low in my belly? Having to pee?

Come on 🙄🙄 And the entirety of the book is spent dragging out her wiped memory. No. Thanks. Unfortunately what started as a promising story about a determined woman with very little magic or supernatural skills, but propelled by her own determination to reach her dreams devolved into something stupid. So I’m tapping out.

Can’t wait to read the next!

This was a great third book!! Definitely better than book 2!! Here’s a quick recap and my two cents.

Quick recap:

Avery dies and wakes up without her memories, but with off the carts power. Since she doesn’t remember who she is or anything about her life, she struggles trusting the people around her. Slowly she learns the people around her are her friends and they’re trying to protect her. Wyatt and Nicholas figure out who is after her and what they want.

My two cents:

This is gonna be fast folks. I want to go read the final book!!

There are a few sex scenes. They’re decent 😏

I like that Avery is all powerful now, but I wanted her to have her own power and it almost feels like she’s two people in one body now. And it’s just her body that remembers Wyatt. We shall see.

This book definitely ends on a bit of a cliff hanger just like the first two. It’s no where near as bad as some cliff hangers. It’s definitely an expected cliff hanger since you know book 4 is the final book.

Give this series a try if you like Fantasy action series. It’s short, but good! Happy reading y’all!

Book 3

Needless to say, I’m absolutely hooked on this series. Book 3 takes everything up a notch, finally delivering the depth, action, and intensity I’ve been waiting for.

It felt like I was right there with the characters, experiencing all the new revelations alongside them. The emotional ride swings from concern to full-on panic as the stakes rise, pulling me deeper into the story.

Love that the additional characters are getting their time to shine, and I’m all in on the found family vibes. Most of them have made it into my “please stay alive” box, and their development adds a new richness to the story.

While Avery’s memory loss still isn’t my favorite plot point, I’m beyond relieved that it hasn’t fully damaged her bond with Wyatt. His heartbreak would be unbearable at this point, and their romance continues to be the emotional core of the series. Honestly, Wyatt’s devotion to Avery is award worthy. What a guy! (uhm, wolf).

The intrigue and suspense in the second half of the book had me racing through the pages, and the ending left me absolutely speechless. No words—just heading straight to book 4!

Full of Action

This third book in the series picks up where the second book ended, with Avery encased in a magical dome she had erected around herself. Wyatt had claimed her as his mate when they were in Bulgaria, but she had died in his arms in the face lands, snapping the bond that tied them together. However, when she came back to life, all of her memories, including memories of Wyatt, were gone.

Wyatt kept close to Avery, or at least as close as she would allow, but it was her former roommate, Charlotte, who was finally able to talk her into dropping the dome. They finally relocated to a local hotel, but Avery still didn’t trust Wyatt. And then, the mysterious hooded men attacked.

The world building in all of the books has been good, but is pretty spectacular in this third book. The character development is also well done, including the development of secondary characters. As with all of the other books, this one also ends on a cliffhanger, but I’m eagerly ready to read the fourth and last book in the series. Great job, Ms. Street! My rating: 5 stars

3.5/5 🌶️

Holy guacamole, the ending to this book has me shook. 😳

So this entire book is Avery not remembering absolutely anything from her life before (literally to the point of not knowing the feeling of when she has to pee), and her trying to run away from the Elves who want her. She sort of discovers some new powers, but overall a lot unanswered questions about what she can do after this book.

I do have a lot of sympathy for Avery because I can’t even imagine not recognizing anyone, and having to navigate having random feelings towards things, but no idea why.

But mostly I feel bad for Wyatt 😩 poor guy finally got his mate, and now has to deal with her not remembering him at all and start completely from the beginning. Plus this poor guy is always having to fight against his wolf’s nature which seems exhausting. Seriously this man’s love knows no depth, I’m obsessed with him 💕

I sure hope Avery and Wyatt get their happy ending, but after the last chapter of the book I’m not so sure 😬
