A fluffy Romance with a hint of spice. Follow Carson as he falls in love with the angel from his childhood.
Angels have always hated Demons. Whether they are the vile Delter demons that rage war on all other races, or the Alter demons who hide away in their own lands, ignoring the Delter’s atrocities. The Angels distrusted them all. And so, with divine beauty and strength, they fend off Delter from moving into the northern lands as if it were their sole duty. As Delter grows desperate to finally push through the Divine Lands, they start to eye Alter, the only kingdom between them and the North. Foreseen by the Divine King, he hopes to create an alliance with Alter, despite the general population’s disgust of the Demon kingdom…Even if Alter is peaceful by nature.
The disgust of Delter’s never-ending conquest for power and slaves, pushes Alter into a corner. Despite the looming fate of war within their lands, the Alter King persists in remaining neutral and only cordial with the other kingdoms. That is until Princess Eae, the niece of the Divine King and Hero of her people, gets injured near the Alter and Divine border. Prince Carson is nearby to save her and after the girl he remembered from his childhood nearly dies in his arms, his interest in her is rekindled.
Now in Alter, Princes Eae approaches the Alter throne with a deal. Backed by her king, and in exchange for a unified front line, she offers her hand in marriage to one of the Alter King’s brothers. Faced with the idea of marrying the Angel Princess he had once met as a child, Carson jumps at the chance. But it isn’t easy to quell the unease of an interracial marriage. Let alone one between two of the most hostile races to each other. But is Eae more than just a beautifully divine woman? Or is she just willing to marry a Demon to put a stop to Delter once and for all?
I really enjoyed the love story here and how the world and magic was described. I am always someone who thinks magic systems could always be explained more though. I would have enjoyed a deeper dive on at least some of the magic and even the kingdoms and their customs. Other than that I very much enjoyed getting to read this book as an ARC copy. Even though war is a main point, it is broken up well by sweet moments of love and friendship.
This book had so much potential for me, and there were many things I liked about it, but also some things that were difficult to overlook. The story itself is relatively easy to follow and read. It's simple, and the world-building is simple. It's a great fantasy palate cleanser. It's still in the fantasy round, but it's more convoluted and multi-layered than the typical fantasy read, which makes it a fast read. I also really enjoyed specific themes in the story. The author does an excellent job of highlighting the journey of self-acceptance and finding a group or a family that will accept you for you. Also, Carson is the sweetest! Cutest demon around!
Now for the things that I didn't particularly like: The pacing of the story could have been more consistent. While I liked the story and felt like there was a good foundation for it, I definitely think a lot needed to be flushed out better. I almost feel like the story would have benefited from being longer so that there could be more time spent on certain scenes. There were a few moments where I thought to myself, "Oh, that happened so fast," to the point that it felt too easy. There wasn't a huge payoff. The characters themselves were also inconsistent. The story would have benefitted from a dual POV to see more of Eae's perspective. Having everything told from Carson's perspective didn't help me connect with Eae, which would have made a massive difference for me. Lastly, I got a physical copy of this Arc, which I am so honored about. However, I noticed so many grammatical errors. Now, I fully recognize I make a lot myself, but the errors I found really made it difficult to ignore, which took me out of the story. It is possible I just got an older rendition that wasn't edited well, so I plan to view the eBook once it is released to see if that's improved. If it does, I fully intend to revisit my rating.
The story is a quick, fun read and a great starter fantasy book for those just getting into the genre. There is spice, but I rate it a 1.5/2 out of 5.
I absolutely loved this book!! If you like reading romantasy about a fmc that’s a warrior bada*s and mmc thats a cinnamon roll boyfriend, then this book if for you!! I fell in love with Carson and eae’s relationship dynamic. Carson is a demon prince who has been infatuated with Eae who is an angel, since they were both children. Eae’s kingdom is at war with another demon kingdom. So the king, eae’s uncle decides to unite Carson’s kingdom and theirs to strengthen the bond and help each other win the war. THERE IS SO MUCH HOT TENSION between Carson and eae. And I loved every minute of it! And ending was just as beautiful and satisfying ❤️ 10/10 would definitely recommend ❤️
This was a truly amazing story the ending was perfect I loved how they were all saying how they loved each other she had me pulled into the story right from the beginning I did read it twice and each time I caught things I missed the first time it’s like each time you read it you see more of the story and learn more about the characters I can’t wait to see more and more by this author
I love this book, the story line is perfect. Angel and Demons, arrange marriage, war. Eae and Carson story, from their childhood, to seeing each other and getting marriage. The war for peace and the ending is perfect. Eae is a badass angel fighting for peace and Carson had my heart from the very beginning. I will be rereading this again. A perfect cinnamon roll romance book.
The story between Carson and Eae is so cute and the story throws you into their lives and how they become entangled. There is fighting, arranged marriage and all the tension. I loved that he is a demon and she is an angel and she is the badass fighter of the two. This is such a fast paced stand alone and I didn't want it to end. So excited to read more from this author.
Even though at first I wasn't completely into the story, when I hit the 15 % mark I had to force myself to put the book down, it was THAT good.
I really enjoyed Eae and Carson's banter and chemistry through out the whole book. They were so cute together. She was a bad*ss with a playful and sweet side and he was an introvert who would do anything to protect her.
Can Angels and Demons exist together peacefully, or will they always be at war? I loved the characters and the world in this book!!! Carson is a cinnamon roll MMC, and Eae is a badass FMC!!!
This book surprised me. The book is set in a male POV (which is awesome), and focuses on the relationship between the male main character (Alter Demon) and the female main character ( Angel). I love that the female main character has vulnerabilities but doesn't let those control her and the male main character is open about his insecurities. I did want a bit more of a slow burn but I understood that the story started in the prolog (DO NOT SKIP THE PROLOG!!). The story has great character development and a good amount of world-building without giving too much away. This Book has won the first five-star read of the year, and I can't wait to read more by Brie Lajada. I do hope she lets me be an Arc Reader again and she continues to write these beautiful stories.
This was a cute story. I love how strong and spunky the FMC was. I really appreciated the author explaining pronunciation of name within the story. While the FMC was strong she exhibited a vulnerability with the MMC that was beautiful. However the MMC got on my nerves with his severe insecurities which detracted from the plot.
