They arrive alive. They leave dead. But first, they give me their confessions.
These are the patient files for the deathbed confessions of my patients.
This one you're about to read is for PATIENT #1024 .
He's known on my ward as Ken from the famous "Ken and Barbie" duo. They were the Bonnie & Clyde in the Asylum. His confession is included in The Asylum Book 1.
Fans of Stephen King, Joe Hill and like to read books like The Bird Box and The Haunting, and can't get enough stories about serial killers are going to enjoy reading the deathbed confessions from The Asylum.
My name is Jack Steen and for those who arrive on my 'death' ward at the Asylum, I'm the last face many will see before they die. I am the night nurse at the Asylum for the Criminally Insane.
Most of my patients are serial killers and mass murderers and they know me as the Angel of Death. When they come onto my floor, I offer a tell me their story, their 'untold' story that hasn't been read about in the news, sensationalized by media or cataloged in a ridiculous number of academic papers. I want the real story - the one they haven't old anyone.
Some of these killers have never confessed to their crimes, some kept certain information to themselves...those are the stories I want. If they give them to me, I'll make their death...easier. They're already dying, that's why they're now my patients.
If they play nice, I can make their death less painful. But only if they play nice and tell me their confessions. The majority of these killers are expert manipulators. I realize they could be playing me and messing with my head.
It's a chance I'm willing to take. And now...they might just be playing with yours too.
10000/5 book for me! Man, these patients are soooo sick. I have already read this story in the first book that I read from Jack Steen. I just always wondering what makes people want to do bad things to other people. What is the final draw to being, I want to kill this person, or I want to do this to this person. Always a mystery to me that I will never find out! I personally love hearing the stories that Jack was told while working as a nurse. He is becoming one of my favorite authors and he didn't intend to be one! Totally recommend this book to anyone that is interested in hearing some crazy stories of patients in insane asylums!
The narrator, both as the nurse and the killer had a flat affect. It made the story creepy but it also made you wonder if the nurse has worked there too long!!
holy shit this book was fantastic, This is my second jack steen book! I knew immediately after starting it I was going to love every second!! This was a super creepy story I liked seeing Ken’s pov of things and learning about why he did what he did! This reads like a true crime story which was extremely enjoyable and entertaining! The story and plot to this one was fantastic and well thought out. Jack is a angel of death in the ward of the asylum he works at, he gives them an offer to tell their real stories and give a true confession and in return he’s makes their passing easier! the more we see off Jack it really makes you wonder if he enjoys the story’s he’s being told. Definitely going to continue these books I want more!! 4/5 ✨✨

This was good. I listened to it as an audiobook. I’ll admit that I borrowed it from the library because it was in sort of the mystery thriller category and I really needed an audiobook while I waited for my other loans to show up and this one is available now I started at walking my dog and was like wait. Why is this so fast in percentage?
Turns out it’s like a one off short story that goes along with a series of a bunch of other one off short stories with sort of essential theme. The narration was good. The storyline was basically a repeat of any other Bonnie and Clyde criminal minds situation but I enjoyed it well enough that I put the first book in the actual series on hold . Apparently these are really well received so we’ll see what happens. Meanwhile, it was such a short book that I almost kind of feel bad letting it count towards my yearly total. Lol
i don’t remember how i heard about or got recommended this book but i had asked libby to flag me if they ever acquired a copy and they did yesterday so 🤷🏻♀️
i listened to this audiobook on the way home from the airport and it was a quick listen, only about an hour but honestly i was expecting more. there was a lot of buildup with like omg deathbed confessions but i was hoping we’d hear from a lot of different characters instead of one. it didn’t even really dive into like the guys head on why he had done it or what it felt like or whatever. also i googled to find out if it’s real and i don’t even think jack steen is a real person so that also takes away points lol , would not really recommend
Creepy.. imho way more disturbing than Patient 1024 due to some scenes even after Jack stating he edited out the worst. That he said he had to do that just makes your skin crawl. If you get there you.ll understand. You.ve been warned .
Even though I only rated this three stars, I’ve heard that the other ones are better so I’m excited to read the other ones! This one was really short, and I wanted a lot more out of the confession !!!
Fast-paced read. Very graphic in regards to the confession of the patient so be warned. This is a good audiobook while you are doing chores around the house.
Every one of Jack Steen novels were easy to read and pretty interesting. I enjoyed them. Even the more disturbing ones. Just as a one time read though, nothing I'd want to purchase for my collection.
