This book made a huge impression on me when I read it as a teen. I want to read it again to see if it retains that magical charm.

The author is an astute observer of wolves. There are splendid descriptions - first time I've ever read of what my 2 yr old Great Pyrenees, Alex, does when he plays in snow. It was uncanny...

Lots of analogies to modern society and our evolution, a bit laboured at times, but overall an interesting and enjoyable read.

GUYS I found a decent copy that was signed and bought it, now I can reread it and admire it whenever I want. 😭

New review to come, let's see if it will withstand time!

I have to reread this book!

I remember reading it when I was in Middle School and absolutely loved it. I may have cried. One day I'll reread it for a proper review.

Edit: I've just suddenly come to the conclusion that the animal on this cover is not a wolf, but a fox. 😅 The ears gave it away initially.

I chose to read this book because it was written by the husband of a friend. This is not a book that I would have sought out on my own, and I was pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed it as much as I did. I found the writing style to be poetic and calming.
