MetaAnatomy: Anatomy of a Yogi

Rate this book
Meta, like in the words metaphysical or metacarpals, means beyond, and MetaAnatomy is the attempt to go beyond our often limited concepts of our own bodies. In Anatomy of a Yogi Volume One we introduce you to... You! With chapter titles like "I've got your back, Jack" on the glorious spine and "Oh the nerve" on the magnificent nervous system we try to disseminate what can be dense information into fun accessible bite size pieces (so to speak!). Wrapped inside the teachings of yoga philosophy this makes an excellent companion to yoga teacher training programs or for those yoga students interested in learning about their own amazing body. This book covers all the major muscles, bones and joints along with the anatomy of breath and the nervous system forming a comprehensive and lighthearted study for yoga students, yoga teachers or anyone with a body.

***I received an ARC from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review

This book was an in-depth anatomy lesson, interspersed with humor, meditations, and yoga poses. Unfortunately for me, it was a little too heavy on the anatomy and humor and too light on the yoga & meditations, which is what I thought I would be getting. It wasn't a bad book, just not what I was expecting and therefore not the book for me.

It’s hard to make anatomy interesting let alone digestible. The author does a great job of breaking down the anatomical body in a way that’s easy to understand and memorable. Her style is quirky and relatable and I recommend this book any new yoga teacher.

An engaging read by someone obviously passionate about our bodies and our relationships to them.

Loved this. Short and accessible with a focus on all the important human bits. Seriously considering it for the yoga teacher training that I lead.

Loved it! Short but filled with great bits of humor to help remember different aspects of anatomy! Also love that it relates anatomy to the yoga practice.
