This was a strong 3-stars. I had just come out of same-day surgery and needed something pleasant to read. Not a lot of stress here: nice handsome hero, independent heroine, not too much sex or angst.
This book has a well-meaning hero, Fane Westby, Lord Galbreth, who has been raised in the United States but suddenly finds himself the owner of a rural estate in England. The old fish out of water. Meanwhile, the very independent Miss Hampton, has buried herself in the country to avoid marrying against her will. Miss Hampton knows the rules, even though she can't abide them herself, she signs on to teach Lord Galbreth everything an English lord needs to know.
I thought this was a cute idea of a story but the development of characters and love story took too long. By the end you finally feel that they love each other but it was by the end of the book and not before. You didn't even feel that they were liking each other till then either.
I have decided that I do not like this author and the only reason I continue to read her is because I bought a box of old regencies off of eBay and there were several of this author in it, and so I am going to read them since I bought them. But when I get done with them I will not read anything else by her.
