The story starts off with the "hero" seeing the heroine for the first time from the window where he is with his married lover..... she is soon to be engaged to the brother of his mistress, buts he has caught his eye. She lives in the home next to the one he has won in a wager..... There is a good solid story where in the heroine is not a prude, she is attracted immensely to the rakish hero and it is more of a battle of when not if...lol. However they are thrust together several times placing him in the spot to be a hero, the last time in after the heroine is seriously injured. I really enjoyed the story!

Quite nice. Really a 3.5 to 4 star read.

The Hero, sort of a misunderstood rake, for most part, behaved quite honorably towards everyone, including the heroine.

The first page is quite delicious in that the Hero is gazing out of an Inn’s window, after a tryst w his paramour when he sees a young lady (the heroine) and her friends below. He is immediately attracted to her, and it turns out that his lover knows them. The heroine lives w her uncle in the property bordering the Hero’s new estate.

The Hero is very handsome, which is why he easily earned his reputation as a rake, and the heroine is not immune to his charms either. She reminds me of a young girl and her first true crush, always riding around the vicinity trying to look out for him. Its quite amusing, but real.

The Hero is very experiences so he can tell that the heroine is attracted to him. He warns her off, but in lots of ways he cannot help being attracted back to her.

There is another man vying for the heroine’s attention, actually he is the brother of the Hero’s lover, which is how she knew who the heroine was, so it makes for a tangled web.

There are a lot of encounters between the main characters to show their growing attraction to each other. The Hero is determined to resist the heroine but he finds it harder and harder to do so as they get better acquainted.

It was a good story, quite satisfying.

I really enjoyed this book, thought it was well written, I have read a few regencies lately where the development left something to be desired, but this did what I love, the hero and heroine had constant interaction which provided good time for good development, the way they kept thinking they would never see each other again but each other secretly hoping they would and of course fate made sure they kept meeting. Despite the hero meant to have been a total rake he was still a gentlemen at the heart of it and treated everyone honorably in it, and he did not go around seducing innocents and he fought his desire and feelings for Gillian long enough, they also had great chemistry which is kind of funny saying it about a book but I feel you can always feel if characters have chesmitry or not through the writing and I felt it with them, it only had a small misunderstanding thankfully and it was sorted pretty quickly and it was tied up well, all in all a very enjoyable read, I loved all their interactions. They did make love before marriage in it which I don't usually like since it was not what respectable people did back then especially those of quality and in a perfect world it would still be that way, but this is one of the times where it worked, they both loved each other and thought it was the only way they could marry each other.
