Kentarou Miura (三浦建太郎) was born in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, in 1966. He is left-handed. In 1976, at the early age of 10, Miura made his first Manga, entitled "Miuranger", that was published for his classmates in a school publication; the manga ended up spanning 40 volumes. In 1977, Miura created his second manga called Ken e no michi (剣への道 The Way to the Sword), using Indian ink for the first time. When he was in middle school in 1979, Miura's drawing techniques improved greatly as he started using professional drawing techniques. His first dōjinshi was published, with the help of friends, in a magazine in 1982.

That same year, in 1982, Miura enrolled in an artistic curriculum in high school, where he and his classmates started publishing their works in school booklets, as well as having his first dōjinshi published in a fan-produced magazine. In 1985, Miura applied for the entrance examination of an art college in Nihon University. He submitted Futanabi for examination and was granted admission. This project was later nominated Best New Author work in Weekly Shōnen Magazine. Another Miura manga Noa was published in Weekly Shōnen Magazine the very same year. Due to a disagreement with one of the editors, the manga was stalled and eventually dropped altogether. This is approximately where Miura's career hit a slump.

In 1988, Miura bounced back with a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype, as an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. It went on to win Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Kentarou started a project titled King of Wolves (王狼, ōrō?) based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken. It was published in the monthly Japanese Animal House magazine in issues 5 and 7 of that year.

In 1990, a sequel is made to Ourou entitled Ourou Den (王狼伝 ōrō den, The Legend of the Wolf King) that was published as a prequel to the original in Young Animal Magazine. In the same year, the 10th issue of Animal House witnesses the first volume of the solo project Berserk was released with a relatively limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on manga titled Japan, that was published in Young Animal House from the 1st issue to the 8th of 1992, and was later released as a stand-alone tankōbon. Miura's fame grew after Berserk was serialized in Young Animal in 1992 with the release of "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of his masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary mangakas. At this time Miura dedicates himself solely to be working on Berserk. He has indicated, however, that he intends to publish more manga in the future.

In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired in the same year on NTV. Various art books and supplemental materials by Miura based on Berserk are also released. In 1999, Miura made minor contributions to the Dreamcast video game Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage. 2004 saw the release of yet another video game adaptation entitled Berserk Millennium Falcon Arc: Chapter of the Record of the Holy Demon War.

Since that time, the Berserk manga has spanned 34 tankōbon with no end in sight. The series has also spawned a whole host of merchandise, both official and fan-made, ranging from statues, action figures to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentarou Miura received the second place in the Osamu Tezuka Culture Award of Excellence for Berserk.[1]

Miura provided the design for the Vocaloid Kamui Gakupo, whose voice is taken from the Japanese singer and actor, Gackt.

Miura passed away on May 6, 2021 at 2:48 p.m. due to acute aortic dissection.

This Volume was the craziest by far hands down.
Humans and Apostles Fighting side by side, protecting each other defending each others.
Griffith Just won a lot of points, with all the Griffith fanatics out there in the world, are you happy now?
And just when we thought that the world has already gone through two major transformations, In the first Eclipse, and the second semi Eclipse, We Get this Fantasia.
This Volume was like the ultimate battle of the double pages, double pages everywhere, and i am reading it on my phone, i wasn't sure exactly which page i was in, but we pushed through YES!
I also think we were like watching this Volume not reading it.
I have to point out though the amazing story of Emperor Ganishka, that was Epic, actually i can live happily reading through different stories of each apostle, Because these stories present in many ways When Humans hit rock Bottom, and the drastic measures they would go through to insure their survival.
Man i am writing all this with a broken heart, hitting Rock Bottom one after another, that i feel like there is no Bottom, its an endless pit, and i am just sinking.
Fuck anyway the ripples of this transformation, might have reached the whole world, we seen in one panel that half the earth was engulfed in that light, so i am not sure if all earth was further engulfed, maybe in a panel i couldn't make out or something.
And Hey how about the ultimate manipulator in Griffith, Using the skeleton knight like that for his own schemes, Man is that guy smart or what!
But Griffith is missing something, travel back through your memory, and think of Griffith Before his incarnation, do you remember how alive he looked, how he smiled, how he interacted with his band of the hawk, how he was fighting along side them?
That doesn't happen anymore, Griffith right now looks just like a God.
Unfazed by any emotions, and doesn't require to show any feelings, because just his mere presence is calming everyone around him, and attracting them to his cause.

I liked Ganishka's backstory. I like the idea that with each Apostle, beneath all that layer of eldritch monstrosity and absolute contempt for mankind, there lies at the core a human being, scared and lonely, that was once grievously betrayed. It is only at such a moment - in the deepest nadir of their life - that evil might take hold of them... and it doesn't in the end even help, as whatever caused their suffering is still there. Ganishka, for instance, is just as paranoid and fearful as he was in life. Rosine is still a frightened little girl playing make-believe. The Count, unable to find love from his one remaining family member. Wyald, an old man scared of the inevitable death. And Griffith... still conquering, still dominating, still looking to fill a void in his heart that has, if anything, only gotten bigger since he made his bargain.

They gain power, yet they do not grow.

We also get to see the whole world change and the magic and fantasy erupt out into it. It looks quite nice and there's great implications of it for the future to come. It's just a shame that the story is still as slow as molasses and it's not likely we'll get to see the full consequences any time soon.

“Amongst villages, cities, nations and peoples...for centuries—for millennia...stories have been told about them as if they really exist. People fear them, yearn for them, yet cannot catch or escape them. Thus have they gone on imagining this other half of the world...and it now lies before their eyes... Mankind’s desire. FANTASIA.” 👹👽🎃🧟‍♀️🧝🏻‍♀️🧚🏻‍♀️🧜🏼‍♀️🧞‍♂️🕷🐲✨🌈

somehow this series just became 100x better in the span of a single volume?

I'm also having a hard time understanding how any other reviewers could say this is 'dragging it out', its 'lack of plot progression' or its 'stereotyped characters'. Unless you define the only plot as Guts vs. Griffith, which to be honest isn't even the most compelling storyline in the series, there's pretty much no way you can define what happens in this volume, especially in the second half, as not progressing the plot.

NO wonder berserk used to be on hiatus a lot of times; to create such a phenomenal masterpiece does require some time indeed.

We get to see Ganishka's backstory in this volume. It is on point and succeeds on establishing his character and motives.

Continuing the Falconia Chapter

Griffith is seemingly the leader of the Holy See and all the united nations now. Emperor Ganishka of the Kushans felt intimidated by Griffith and now turned himself into a giant monster but has seemingly lost his ego/mind and has no clue what his purpose is anymore.

The monster of Ganishka is so cool. It's one of the best depictions of a giant I've seen in comics.

Griffith and his army are now on Wyndhelm attempting to fight the Kushan monsters. Griffith has his best men go monster mode but now the normal followers of Griffith are a bit freaked out. Sonia gets involved to try and convince the people that they still need to fight, to join Griffith's monster hoard in the battle. She's saved by the archer (who's now a 4 legged beast similar to a Centaur).

Most of the issue is just a huge ass battle.

We get a bit of Ganishka's backstory and psychology. The Skull Knight comes in at the end to try and kill Griffith. Griffith kills Ganishka which seems to have caused an incredible explosion accross the whole planet. And now unicorns, giant snakes and other mythological creatures are all over the place. The world has become "Fantasia" full of creature with no rhyme or reason. Free form.

Crazy stuff. There's even page that pays homage for Hieronymus Bosch's The Garden of Earthly Delights.

1. This is the greatest volume of manga I have ever read in my life.
2. This artwork is the most jaw-dropping beautiful thing I have ever laid my eyes upon. Miura went the extra mile on this.
3. I am shook to the core.

THIS IS BERSERK IN ALL OF ITS GLORY.

One of the best volumes of manga I've ever read, if for no other reason because of the sheer quality of the art. The narrative delivers too, with Griffith completing his indoctrination of Midland in the face of a Lovecrafian horror. When Berserk is firing on all cylinders like this, it is untouchable.

im probably going to back and edit this but it’s been cool seeing all my friends liking my updates as i go through Berserk again! i’ve finally finished the “Falcon of the Millennium Empire” arc in Berserk and it was from volumes 22-35 (the first chapter of vol 35 is the final chapter of this arc, but it feels more fitting to put this here). i felt this way with the last arc so maybe i’ll do it with that one too, but i need to process what i just read…this manga never ceases to amaze me. my mind is blown and i need to take a youtube deep dive. either way, thanks everyone for liking my updates and sorry for spamming your feeds!

I want to say this for a couple of volumes now, but Irvine is one of the coolest characters in the series! Yet another volume where Miura goes... BERSERK... on drawing some of the best panels ever, it's the definition of "every frame a painting".

This arc was easily better than the conviction arc but far from the Golden Age. I suppose that’s what happens when you have something that perfect so early in the series and then try to outdo it. Still second best is still pretty good. There were some parts which dragged of course but ultimately I just want to keep going. Even if the next one isn’t the best it’s still the last thing this amazing writer created and I want to read every word of it.

"Because people fear the unknown they speak the same words to one another. Because they fear the unknown they distrust words they don't understand. Because they fear the unknown they believe in a doctrine. Because they fear the unknow they reject other gods. Because of fear they label outsiders. Paganism. Foreign languages. Different races. All manner of social classes."

wow this was epic!
The art is breathtaking, these monsters’ designs are to die for.
The outcome of the battle and its impact to the whole world... wow

I am 100% sure Muira takes inspiration from Jheronimus Bosch. The last pages remind me of Temptations of Saint Anthony. I doubt it’s just a coincidence.

The final battle was kinda let down and anti climatic. Nonetheless thus ends the second last arc of Berserk.

I am not sure how I feel about going all fantasy in the end.

I'd read the last 6 volumes later in the year, else I'd end up missing it, waiting for next volume.
