TITLE: ITALIAN COASTAL: Recipes and Stories From Where the Land Meets the Sea
AUTHOR: Amber Guinness
PUB DATE: 05.07.2024

There’s nothing I love better than planning my next destination and traveling for food. One of the best trips I’ve ever had was my Italian trip last summer. ITALIAN COASTAL is perfect because I can continue to cook authentic Italian dishes while being back home in Los Angeles dreaming of Italy and the delicious meals I’ve enjoyed there.

What I love about this book is the way Amber Guinness features food along the Italian coast from Tuscany to Campania to Sicily all the while giving historical context to the food in the region.
Moreover, I love recipes without the fluff. The best foods should be enjoyed featuring the best and freshest ingredients with minimal effort.

Don’t wait any further pick up this book for the recipes, Italian history, and the best food and travel photography throughout the book.

This book will not only look great on any coffee table, but this is one that you will be grabbing more and more for recipes to be enjoyed with friends and families.

So much more than a cookbook, Italian Coastal is a viaggio (journey) through delectable food and heartwarming stories. Included is a favorites section with pairing suggestions, a comprehensive index, and clear, concise instructions.. The illustrations are both beautiful and scrumptious. With a little imagination, you can smell the Italian scents wafting from the pages. Amore! Delizioso!

Although I’m not a great cook, I love to collect cookbooks.

𝐈𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥 is a gorgeous gathering of recipes from the Italian coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The warm and welcoming pictures, plus the notes on the towns and cities, may have you packing your bags for Italy.

I especially loved that the recipes were simple and used fresh, natural ingredients.

Here are a few of my favorite recipes: (swipe to see pictures)
✷A very thin Zucchini and Basil Omelette
✷Baked Aubergine with Pasta, Mozzarella and Tomatoes
✷Hasselback Hedgehog Potatoes

I am truly fortunate to have traveled a good bit on the Mediterranean and Tyrrhenian Seas to visit some stunning Italian locations, and even more so, to have tasted the food. Italian Coastal is a fun way to revisit my trip and experiences, while also learning more about the fine cuisine.

This cookbook is stunning in its presentation. The photos are full color, and wow, do the meals look and sound delectable. It truly was a special experience to reflect on my trip while “traveling” through this yummy and approachable cookbook.

I received a gifted copy.

I expected a cookbook! Instead I got a history lesson on why the food in Italy and in particular Tuscany is always so delicious, flavorsome, juicy, and scrumptious! It was the lemon on the cake that sealed the deal for my love of this region! Love love love! Have bookmarked a few recipes to make but not sure we’re I’m going to find lemons from the Amalfi region in Sydney Australia!

The book has recipes and beautiful photographs, but it also contains details I found useful about the preparation of many of the ingredients. In addition to photos of the finished dishes, several had photos showing exactly how to handle the prep; there were even some that showed how to eat it. Measurements are in metric and imperial. Italian (or dialect) names of dishes are provided, which helps a lot. Best of all are the essays - a bit of tourism, a bit of classical history, a bit of literature, some of it personal. My only quibble is with the fonts. The font for the essays is particularly difficult.

This book is a culinary delight. It features the ingredients and recipes that are found in the areas on the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The book is broken down into 6 sections for the recipe portion. Throughout the book the author tells us about her experiences and more about each of the 7 regions being detailed in this cookbook.

My favorite part besides the beautiful photographs is the menu section near the beginning of the book. Amber breaks down the recipes into categories such as “minimal cooking for hot days and nights” and “quick dishes to make ‘al volo’”. Then in each subsection is the page to find the exact recipe. I feel like that is very user friendly.
