Thanks to a lucky win on the Power Ball Lottery, Joel has fulfilled his ambition - an island of his own. All he needs to do now is show it to Gray, his best friend and ex-lover, who had shared that childhood dream. But life moves on and people change. So do connections. They can transmute into something wonderful and lasting, but only if both men want the same thing.

Chris started creating stories not long after she mastered joined-up writing, somewhat to the bemusement of her parents and her English teachers. But she received plenty of encouragement. Her dad gave her an already old Everest typewriter when she was about ten, and it was probably the best gift she'd ever received – until the inventions of the home-computer and the worldwide web.

Chris's reading and writing interests range from historical, mystery, and paranormal, to science-fiction and fantasy, mostly in the male/male genre. She also writes male/female novels in the name of Chris Power. She refuses to be pigeon-holed and intends to uphold the long and honourable tradition of the Eccentric Brit to the best of her ability. In her spare time [hah!] she reads, embroiders, quilts and knits. In the past she has been a part-time and unpaid amateur archaeologist, and a 15th century re-enactor.

She currently lives in a small and ancient city in the south-west of the United Kingdom, sharing her usually chaotic home with an extended family, two large dogs, fancy mice, sundry goldfish and a young frilled dragon (Australian lizard) aka Trogdorina.

Falling Again, the story of a few hours in the lives of Joel and Gray, isn't a master work of a short story. BUT it is a very good short story.
When I read short stories, I view them as one point in time in an ongoing tale. I find myself building back story and wondering about the possible futures of the central characters. Setting details, speech patterns, describing physical actions – everything must be in place for the short story to capture me.
In Falling Again, virtually everything from the woolen coat (why WAS Gray wearing it? Really? He's so far out of his element, in more than one sense of the word) to the dunk in the water of the inlet (shudder) to Gray's detached behavior while Joel is trying to warm him up to the fire in the fireplace helps to underscore both men's moods and reactions.
Neither man wants to damage the tentative bond they'd reestablished, and both men want, very much, to move the relationship back toward what it had been years before. Indeed, there is sex. And it's intense. But it's also the only thing that's going to break through the barriers the men have erected, each to protect himself and, I might add, each other. If those pivotal hours on the island hadn't happened, I am inclined to think that both Joel and Gray would have "careful-ed" each other even farther apart than they were at the start of the story.
That's not an easy thing to describe in the short story format,, but I think that Chris Quinton has done it well.

Again, i warn of bias... I am a long time CQ fan... What we normally have from CQ is a long and detailed look at relationships from first meeting to THE END is typed. In this story we have a tight and focused look on two men who were past lovers and who *lost the way*. Miscommunication and time has pulled them apart and one meeting is enough for them to pull up their pants and sort themselves out. This is a book that for me is a hot and sweet look at that moment when you truly realise you are in love.

Recommended for readers who want a quick hot and sweet look at a relationship and who like CQ's subtle drawing of character.

I thought this was a really good story. Yes, there is heaps of sex, in a way I felt it was important and an intense part of the relationship moving forward. Gray and Joel needed the intimacy to help them open up and let each other in.

A short story that gives a full story but left me wanting to know more about Gray and Joel both before and after the overnight trip covered in the story.
A reunited lovers story.
